Tyra Banks, ever the inventive entrepreneur, has decided to launch her own Magaline — which is a Magazine that one reads Online, get it? Launched to coincide with the season premiere of her daytime TV talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, Tyra’s magaline promises to augment the things she will cover on her show … it even comes with it’s own manifesto:

When I first imagined this new “MagaLine,” I envisioned a place of genuine connection. So as far as I’m concerned, the TYRABANKS.COM manifesto is OUR manifesto.

Yours, mine, ours.
And this is what we pledge…
to celebrate uniqueness.
to know when to cut the hair.
to welcome great advice.
to know that smart is always sexy.
to know that sexy is very good.
to really “get” the body and skin that we are in.
to seek beauty in everything.
to know what colors work (and which ones are better on someone else).
to accept constructive criticism.
to practice the art of the “smize.”
to appreciate original style. (Especially our own).
to laugh at ourselves a little more than every now and then.
to dream. BIG.
to take more pictures.
to constantly evolve.
to cherish true friendship.
to be the CEO of our lives.
to be more confident and self loving.
to know when to rock a trend, and when to act like it never happened.
to ignore the haters. What haters?
to know how to “beat” our own face.
to know how to do a smoky eye.
to live more healthy: mind, body and spirit.
to know that some things that happen to us aren’t our fault.
to keep believing in love.
to know that every hallway is a runway.
to work crazy hard for what we want.
to be beautiful, truly beautiful, inside and out.

Fierce & Love,
Tyra Banks
Founder / Creative Director/ Chief Dreamer

Uh … I think she forgot one much needed line of this audacious manifesto:

to make me laugh my ass off.

I mean … seriously? Basically, Tyra’s magaline is an online presence where she can share the stuff she cannot share on her TV show or expand on topics covered … it’s a blog, let’s call it what it is. I understand the vibe she is trying to go for by posting this manifesto but offering such lofty heights only makes the whole endeavor seem silly. Tyra, it’s a blog … deal with it.

Daytime television’s biggest night took place at The Orpheum Theatre here in Los Angeles, CA where the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in a lavish ceremony hosted by actress/singer Vanessa Williams. The daytime drama The Bold & The Beautiful (one of my faves) took home the big prize of Best Daytime Drama for the first time in it’s 22 year history while Christian LeBlanc, from The Young & The Restless (another of my faves), took home the aware for Best Actor. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals at last night’s affair:

Yes, Stacy Haiduk (who plays Mary Jane Benson/Patty Williams a crazy woman who believes her dead cat is still alive after losing her mind a bit by changing her entire face in order to stalk and seduce Jack Abbott on Y&R) brought a stuffed cat with her as her date to the Daytime Emmys … but it’s okay cuz her crazy-ass character on the show made that stuffed cat a star! While there were a lot of awards handed out last night, the big enchilada went to The Bold & The Beautiful. After the jump, check out a few photos from the show itself and a few photos of some of the winners posing with their new Emmys in the press room after the awards were handed out — plus, read all about B&B’s big win which was 22 years in the making …

After 22 years on the air, “The Bold and the Beautiful” finally won its first victory as best drama series when the Daytime Emmy Awards were bestowed at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. It had been nominated for the top Emmy several times, but many award gurus believed it might never win, being a half-hour program competing against one-hour rivals. Another big shock at the Daytime Emmys was the victory by “The View” for best talk-show host, a category that has never been won by a multiple-host program over more than 35 years. Historically, there’s a strong bias in favor of single-host programs winning in the separate category as best talk-show too, but “The View” did manage to break that jinx once — in 2003 when it tied with “The Wayne Brady Show.” This year Emmy watchers were outraged that “The View” wasn’t nominated for best talk show, only reaping a bid in the host race. Its stars, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters didn’t bother to travel from New York to Los Angeles for the ceremony. “We’re accepting it on their behalf,” presenter Jennie Garth said when no one appeared at the podium to claim the statuette for best hosting. However, co-presenter and “90210″ costar Lori Loughlin warned, “We’re not giving it back!” There were lots of first-time winners at the Daytime Emmys, including Tamara Braun (“Days of Our Lives”) as best supporting actress and “Days” co-star Darin Brooks as best younger actor. Accepting his trophy, Brooks got bleeped by TV censors, then gushed, “Ooo, did I swear? I knew that was going to happen!” That “Days” reaped two acting honors surprised many Emmy watchers. The program is often shrugged off by the conservative TV industry at awards time because it skews to a young, hipster demographic. First-time champ Vincent Irizarry (“All My Children”) shared the laurels for best supporting actor with another rookie victor, Jeff Branson (“Guiding Light”), who acknowledged cancellation of his program, gasping, “72 years! I give this to all of us.” Another first-time champ was Julie Berman (“General Hospital”), who exclaimed as she claimed the younger-actress trophy, “Oh, my God! Oh, my God! This is so scary. I haven’t shaken this much since I auditioned for this part!” Among repeat winners was Christian LeBlanc (“Young and the Restless”) as best actor. Susan Haskell (“One Life to Live”) won best actress for the first time, but previously triumphed in the supporting-actress race back in 1994. “Rachael Ray” proved that its upset victory over “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last year as best talk show (entertainment) was no fluke. After Ellen’s program won the talk-show category four years in a row, Rachael’s yakfest took its second consecutive victory … The evening included a heartfelt farewell to the canceled “Guiding Light.” Betty White introduced the video tribute, saying, ” ‘Guiding Light’ started off on radio in 1937 and, in 1952, it became the first soap opera on TV and to this day it has become the longest-running drama in TV and radio history. But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.” The ceremony included a grandly staged tribute to “Sesame Street” upon its 40th anniversary, which came at a curious time in its awards history. For decades, “Sesame Street” so dominated the race for best children’s show that, in 1995, TV academy spun off a separate category for pre-school children’s shows just to get it out of the way and let other juvenile programs share the gold. Ever since that new category was hatched, “Sesame Street” romped through it too — except this year when it was beaten by “Between the Lions” on Saturday night at the Creative Arts ceremony.

And here are a few of the winners:

CBS had themselves a great night … I have to say, I am very happy that B&B finally won the big prize. Having spun off from Y&R 22 years ago, B&B was the little half-hour show that could … they really brought out all the stops last year and deffo deserved their win. Congrats and love!!

Celebs and musicians of all sorts made their way out to Radio City Music Hall in NYC last night to be a part of Conde Nast Media Group’s 5th Anniversary Fashion Rocks concert event, which seeks to honor and celebrate the convergence of music and fashion. Here are a few pics from the Fashion Rocks red carpet arrivals:

Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Charlize Theron were among the celebrities who appeared at the fifth annual Fashion Rocks concert celebrating the relationship between music and fashion. They walked the red carpet Friday night at Radio City Music Hall amid a media circus angling for glamour shots of other stars including Fergie, Rihanna, Chris Brown and the “Gossip Girl” gang. Brown, the R&B heartthrob, soaked up all the attention with a smile as he showed off his dapper ensemble of a black vest and shirt, gray pants, shiny shoes and diamond stud earrings. “To be a musician and a great entertainer, you have to be a trendsetter. To be a trendsetter, you have to know fashion — and I have fun with it,” explained the singer, who later changed into khakis and a black shirt and scarf for a performance of his hit song “Forever.” The event will air Tuesday in a two-hour special on CBS. Proceeds will benefit Stand Up To Cancer, a program established by the Entertainment Industry Foundation to raise money for cancer research. Stand Up To Cancer held a live telethon that aired simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS on Friday night … Other performers included Timberlake, Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Duffy, the Pussycat Dolls and the Black Eyed Peas. A highlight was Timberlake and Beyonce’s sizzling duet of “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” which channeled the soulful sound of the classic song’s original singers, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Stars mingled and sipped cocktails backstage in the green room, where Leighton Meester of the CW teen drama “Gossip Girl” and her actor-beau Sebastian Stan hung out before she introduced Duffy’s performance of “Mercy.” Meester’s “Gossip” co-star Chace Crawford chatted up actress Hayden Panettiere, who embraced her rock-star side in a silver Ferragamo minidress and black heels. “I usually try to mix class and then really funk it out,” Panettiere said of her personal style. “It’s rock meets class. I try — not always succeed, but I try.”

Wow, this really does sound like a star-studded event … I can’t wait to check it out when it airs on Tuesday night. I understand there were some very cool performances, including one from Rihanna that I will be talking about in a bit. After the jump, check out some pics of Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Kid Rock and others as they took to the stage last night …

Oh yeah, by the looks of it Conde Nast really managed to pull in the big guns for this event. Again, this show looks like it is not to be missed. I know I’ll be tuning in Tuesday night.

Tyra Banks graces the cover of the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine but it is the photos inside the mag that has everybody talking. In the coverstory photoshoot, Tyra channels Michelle Obama (posing with a Barack Obama lookalike) in various First Lady-like situations, behold:

Tyra Banks is sitting on the huge corner sofa in her office in New York, impressing on her interviewer the fierceness of Abigail Adams. Resisting the obvious choice of Jackie Kennedy (“although she was a fox”), it’s the second first lady who has Banks in awe. “I watched the John Adams series on HBO, and I was so taken by her that I Googled everything I could,” she explains, straightening the folds of her businesslike-but-bodacious Zara sundress. “She stood up for women. She was able to speak her mind about women’s issues with her man, and he actually, truly listened to her.” Today, though, it’s a rather more modern potential first lady who has Banks compelled. When it came to paying homage to Michelle Obama for this story, Banks found the process “surreal.” “It’s kind of embarrassing,” she confesses, “but in my early 20s, I used to want to be a princess. But I didn’t want to have to marry somebody in order to do it! Of course, I don’t see the position of first lady as a princess, where it’s something you have to marry into. With Barack Obama, his becoming president is them becoming president because Michelle was there from the beginning. Without Michelle, he wouldn’t be there.” Or, as she pronounces to her Tyra Banks Show camera after her Oval Office portrait, “Michelle Obama, you’re one hot mama.” A number of presidential candidates have appeared on Banks’s talk show (Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards), and she’s after Michelle Obama to appear this fall. She has met her before, noting she was “so warm and so gracious. She’s got that direct-eye-contact, truly-connecting thing. She’s not a ‘ha, ha, ha’ type.” She smiles and continues, “And I love that she’s tall.”

Now this is a great photospread … it is a bit odd but it’s deffo gonna get people talking. I’m most interested in hearing what Michelle Obama thinks about this whole thing. To be honest, I would’ve been more intrigued had Tyra decided to portray First Lady Abigail Adams rather than Michelle Obama … and now you see why I am not a photo editor at a magazine. It’d be interesting to see if any fashion mags decide to do this same thing with the McCains … I think Paris Hilton would’ve made a great Cindy McCain … er, that is … if he hadn’t pissed off the entire Hilton clan by mocking her in his latest campaign ad. Since Paris is out, which celeb do you think would make a great Cindy McCain in a photoshoot like this?

Yeah, I think the DC branch got it more right … this statue ain’t lookin’ all that hot. Especially when you consider that the London branch of Madam Tussaud’s was able to make Amy Winehouse look nice and healthy with their statue … how could the NYC branch do this to poor Tyra. The pics on the right are just horrible … er, oh wait … those are the real pics … um, yeah scratch what I just said … it’s a very nice statue ;)

The Washington DC branch of the Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum chain has just unveiled their new wax statue of Tyra Banks … cuz, you know, the seat of our nation’s government wouldn’t be complete without a wax statue that is the spitting image of this year’s Daytime Emmy Award winner for Best Informative Talk Show … behold:

Madam Tussaud’s usually does a great job with their wax statues but they’ve really outdone themselves with this one. In fact, this statue even looks more lifelike than the real life Tyra Banks. Should the woman ever need to take a sick day, they can just plop this bad boy right down on her couch and I doubt anyone would even notice. This statue even knows how to smile with its fake eyes! Now that’s talent, y’all.

Hollywood and Highland was overrun by the brightest and best of Daytime television last night as the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards took center stage (in the sweltering heat) at the Kodak Theater here in Hollywood, CA. A plethora of Daytime stars took to the red carpet last night but, to be honest, I am only really interested in the folks who appear on my fave Daytime soaps The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. Here are a few folks from both shows as they made their way down the red carpet last night:

Despite nominations in many of the major categories, only 2 folks from Y&R took home Daytime Emmys last night (Kristoff St. John for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Jeanne Cooper for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series) … but I suppose much congrats should go out to the other folks who did win awards, including Ellen DeGeneres and Tyra Banks among others …

Here are a few pics of some of the winners last night:

“Guiding Light” and Tyra Banks picked up the first two trophies Friday night at the Daytime Emmys … Banks picked up the second award of the evening: the first ever Daytime Emmy for informative talk show … “I want to thank Oprah Winfrey for her inspiration,” Banks said. “She is the queen. She will always be the queen.” What about Winfrey? After several sweeps, she’s been taking herself and her show out of Daytime Emmy contention since 1999. ABC is shaking up this year’s ceremony with new categories, new interactive elements and a new Golden Globes-style seating arrangement at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre. Honoring everything from soaps to talk shows to game shows, the live broadcast is being co-hosted by Sherri Shepherd from “The View” and Cameron Mathison from “All My Children.” Instead of sitting in the Kodak’s stuffy theater seats, nominees gathered around their own banquet tables and were allowed to sip booze from an open bar. Digital video cameras were placed at the tables and attendees documented personal experiences during the show. The footage was being uploaded to SoapNet.com throughout the live ceremony. CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” led the soap categories with 17 nominations. It was competing against ABC’s “General Hospital,” CBS’ “Guiding Light” and ABC’s “One Life to Live” for outstanding drama series. CBS netted the most nominations this year with 56 nods overall. In a surprising upset, each of the five lead actress nominees all hail from only CBS soaps.

It is my sad duty to report that Y&R did not win the award for Best Drama Series (which went to General Hospital) but, as I mentioned before, the show did take home 2 major acting trophies. Ellen took home the award for Best Talk Show Host, Rachael Ray took home the award for Best Talk Show — Entertainment and Cristina’s Court took home the award for Best Legal/Courtroom Program. Clearly, these are very hard fought and much sought after awards. How Judge Judy got the shaft, I’ll never know. Ah well … there’s always next year.
