Now it's the Brits' turn to sink their teeth into the movie
‘Twilight’ Premieres In The UK

After enjoying a record-breaking stellar opening here in US theaters, Twilight is about to take the UK by storm. The film’s protagonist star Kristen Stewart and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke were among the guests on hand at the Vue Cinema in Leicester Square in London, England last night for the UK premiere of their film:

Teenage fans braved the cold to catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson at the premiere of his new fanstasy film Twilight. The 22-year-old English actor plays vampire Edward Cullen in the film, which has been touted as the “girl’s answer to Harry Potter”. He was joined on the red carpet by co-star Kristen Stewart, who plays his teenage love interest Isabella Swan. Stewart, 18, arrived at the West End Vue Cinema in London’s Leicester Square wearing a single-strap blue dress, apparently unconcerned about the bitter temperatures. Twilight is based on the series of books by Mormon housewife-turned-author Stephanie Meyer which have sold around 14 million copies across the world. The film, which raked in £24 million ($35.7 million) on its opening day in the US last month, is expected to catapult Pattinson – who played Hogwarts pupil Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films – to international heart-throb status. Pattinson was raised in Barnes, west London, and first trod the boards in Guys and Dolls at his local theatre group seven years ago. In Twilight he stars as Cullen, a 108-year-old vampire who looks like a teenager and wins the heart of Stewart’s character when she moves to his hometown of Forks, Washington. The film, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, opens in cinemas in the UK on Dec 19.

Something tells me that Twilight mania is going to hit the UK about as forcefully as it did here in the US … especially considering that Robert Pattinson is a native Brit. Lest you think R. Pattz was not in the hiz last night for the UK premiere of the film, I do have a very special photo of the lad on the red black carpet last night. After the jump, check out a pic of Pattinson with a few new friends …

Sets a new record
‘Twilight’ Makes $70 Million In Opening Weekend

Twilight, the much-hyped, highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the wildly successful book of the same name, was the #1 movie at the box office this weekend pulling in $70.6 million over the 3-day weekend. The film enjoyed the highest grossing opening for a female director and, with the announcement of the New Moon sequel, sets the stage for a coming franchise of films:

Twilight, director Catherine Hardwicke’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire-romance novel, easily won the weekend box office with a $70.6 mil debut gross, according to Sunday’s estimates. Fellow freshman flick Bolt and hefty holdover Quantum of Solace, meanwhile, trailed far behind. That huge premiere number represents achievements on many levels for Twilight. It’s the top debut ever for a film directed by one woman (Mimi Leder’s Deep Impact banked $41.2 mil on its initial weekend 10 years ago). It’s the 29th best first-weekend bow of all time (falling just shy of 300′s $70.9 mil and coming in just ahead of Transformers’ $70.5 mil). It’s by far the biggest opening yet for fledgling studio Summit, whose previous best bow was Never Back Down’s $8.6 mil back in March. It stands as the fourth biggest premiere of the year — better than Quantum of Solace’s $67.5 mil opening, better than WALL-E’s $63.1 mil, better than Hancock’s $62.6 mil, to name a few … it’s no surprise that the studio already announced a sequel, New Moon. But the question for now, of course, is where Twilight, which averaged a bloody good $20,636 in 3,419 theaters, goes from here? Not surprisingly, girls and women comprised a whopping 75 percent of the film’s audience, but will they continue to pack theaters as the weeks go on? In the short term: yes. According to studio data, ticket buyers gave the movie a nice A- grade, signaling the spread of positive word of mouth as we head into Thanksgiving. Certainly, there will be some competition for this core crowd from Australia and Four Christmases next week, but you can also assume that Twilight will be able to build on its super-smashing start.

Just as I suspected … I kinda had a feeling that the movie would enjoy a very successful opening weekend — never underestimate the power of teenage girls. I, too, suspect that the movie will enjoy much repeat business … after all, a few Pink readers have mentioned that they’ve already seen the movie multiple times this weekend alone. Something tells me that this is the beginning of a beautiful and very profitable movie franchise. One last reminder that today is the last day YOU can submit entries for the Twilight Prize Pack contest that I’m running here on the blog (click HERE for deets). I will accept entries today and then will select and announce the winner right here on the blog.

Also confirm that the sequel 'New Moon' is on the way
The Stars Of ‘Twilight’ Thank You For Your Support

After grossing approximately $7 million dollars in midnight screenings alone, Twilight went on to gross $35 million dollars in just its opening day yesterday (the movie only cost $37 million to make). At the rate that the movie is making money this weekend (the estimation is that it could make somewhere in the area of $75 million over Friday, Saturday and Sunday), it is deffo on track to not only be the #1 movie at the box office but is sure to make enough money to ensure that the sequel, New Moon, can be made. As a result of all this money-making at the box office, the movie studio sent out a Thank You letter to fans which, supposedly, comes from principal stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson themselves:

Bigger than the latest Indiana Jones. Bigger than the biggest James Bond. That’s how big Twilight was yesterday. The $37 million vampire flick, expected to have a killer opening day, had a monster opening day, grossing an estimated $35 million, Exhibitor Relations reported. One-fifth of that gross, or $7 million, came from Friday midnight screenings. The box-office tracking firm said a $75 million Friday-Sunday gross was now a possibility. Going into Friday, $60 million was considered the movie’s best-case scenario. When the counting’s done, Twilight’s Friday take may rank as the 14th or 15th biggest opener of all time, having surpassed the debuts of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($25 million) and Quantum of Solace ($27 million), to name two recent blockbusters.

Oh yeah, this is pretty much what I expected. Despite the negativity and some bad reviews, I was fairly confident that the rabid Twilighters out there would ensure that this movie enjoyed a boffo weekend at the box office. Did anyone really doubt that New Moon would be made? C’mon, now. Alls I know is that the Twilight Saga franchise has officially gotten underway. There will be loads of tween vampy angst to be had in movie theaters for years to come. You have been warned.

So … how much of this weekend’s box office take do y’all think will be repeat business? Have any of y’all seen (or plan to see) the movie more than once this weekend?

The TV Guide
The ‘Twilight’ Zone

OY! Yesterday was a looooong day for me and, amazingly enough, I managed to wake up relatively early today and am still going strong. After a full day of work yesterday and a 5+ hour flight from Detroit to LA, I met up with Darion, Steph and Alek upon arrival and we made our way to the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood for a 12:45AM showing of Twilight. After getting home at about 3:30AM, I was up and working by 8ish this morn. I can feel a crash coming but thus far, I’m still plugging away:

I’ve been reading some of y’alls emails and comments about Twilight the movie and I’ve determined that they are pretty evenly split — between those of you who loved the film and those of you who utterly hated it. I must count myself with the folks who liked the film. Overall, I felt that the movie version of the book was really true to the story and while some portions of the book had to be left out of the movie (no movie version is able to perfectly replicate the book it is based on), I found that the major points were included — and included well. I was VERY surprised at how much I liked the cast. It was weird seeing the characters in the flesh … and I honestly felt that every character was properly realized. Kristen Stewart makes a perfect Bella Swan, I think. For me, she nailed this part. Robert Pattinson was a very good Edward, I think. Some folks thought he was cheesy but most of the way that Edward acts in the book is cheesy (and, it must be said, that R. Pattz‘s hair has never looked better, like, ever … I will say, tho, that Edward in the film looked like Brandon Walsh from Beverly Hills, 90210 circa 1993 while his voice sounded like Luke Perry, same time period.). In fact, I found most of the books very cheesy in that teen romance sort of way … the movie did a very good job of honoring that tween cheesiness. Those of you who find fault in corny aspects of the movie have to look to the book to place blame. I was worried that the dazzling scene would be really bad but they ended up handling it very well. Sure, Edward looked like a go-go boy dancer wearing too much body glitter at Studio 54 but it was apropos for the scene, I think. While I can’t speak for anyone else, my gut tells me that the folks who do not like the film merely love the book so much that nothing could measure up. As, I think, an objective reader/watcher who isn’t overly swayed by emotion, I found that the movie did a great job of bringing the book to life. My only complaint with the film lies with the music … the music used thruout the movie was horrible! So bad. The only bit of music I liked was Edward‘s piano playing … the garish guitar motif that kept popping up thruout the film was annoying.

So yeah, overall … I liked the film. Darion, Steph and Alek liked it too … in fact, they were pleasantly surprised that they liked it as much as they did. The sequel New Moon is set up perfectly at the end of this movie … I’m looking forward to seeing how that one turns out. As for last night …

… we had a lot of fun :)

UGH … there is a very cool event that I was invited to tonight but I’m not sure if I will be able to make it out. I’ll need to sleep at some point … we’ll see. It’s good to be home tho, warm is where the heart is.

Hurray for Hollywood
‘Twilight’ Premieres

Twilight is almost upon us, y’all … we are mere 3 days away from the movie’s official opening (well, 2 days away if you figure in the first midnight showings on Thursday) and anticipation for the film is reaching a fevered pitch. The movie had its official Hollywood premiere at Mann Village and Bruin Theaters in Westwood, CA last night where the principal stars were joined by their celebrity cohorts on the red carpet … oh yeah, and about 600+ “fanpires” who came out to shriek and scream for the arriving cast members, getting louder and louder until Robert Pattinson‘s arrival caused the excitement to go supersonic (poor R. Pattz even went “completely deaf”). Here are a few pics from last night’s premiere arrivals and some info about the night’s festivities:

Hundreds of shrieking fans — mostly teenage girls — lined the streets outside the Mann Village and Bruin Theatres on Monday for a chance to peek at the stars attending the Los Angeles premiere of “Twilight.” Some enthusiasts of the popular vampire literary series-turned-movie camped out overnight, while many arrived at dawn to secure a place in line. “I’m on basic motor functions right now,” actor Robert Pattinson, who plays sexy vamp Edward, said amid fans’ screams. More than 600 people were allowed inside special holding areas along both sides of the premiere’s red carpet. The self-proclaimed fanpires gawked, squealed and begged for autographs and photos with the stars. Others spilled out beyond the barricades and across the street from the premiere. Many held up handmade signs. Most just wanted face time. What question did they ask the most? “‘What’s it like kissing vampires?’” said actress Kristen Stewart, who plays human teenager Bella. Marie Sheranian, 16, and Brianna Matheson, 17, came from Simi Valley, Calif., to catch a glimpse of Pattinson, the 22-year-old actor who became a heartthrob after winning the role of Edward. The two “Twilight” fans created T-shirts professing their devotion for Pattinson and brought crates to stand on in hopes of seeing the actor’s face — or even the top of his hair — from above the crowd. “My heart is gonna explode,” Sheranian said from atop a crate. Not everyone in the horde was a howling teenage girl. Several teenage boys were sprinkled throughout the crowd. And there were even a few parents — including the founders of TwilightMoms.com, who left their children and husbands at home to attend the premiere. Pia Castillo said she came all the way from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to see the film’s bloodsuckers in person. “It’s shocking something I came up with could inspire all this,” said “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer. The red carpet was buzzing about possible sequels. Meyer has written three other “Twilight” novels. Pattinson said he signed on for the film thinking it would be part of a trilogy, and he knows a script for a second film has been written. Stewart said she originally heard the cast might reunite to film both the second and third sequels at the same time, but now they might be filmed separately. “It has to make a certain amount of money, like $150 million, to be able to afford the sequel,” director Catherine Hardwicke said. “So we really don’t know yet.”

LOL. I’d be surprised if Twilight didn’t make $150 million in it’s opening weekend, considering all this insane hype. But, more realistically, it prolly won’t make that much money in one weekend but I think it’s a bit silly to say that they’re not sure about future sequels … this movie will make more than enough to justify the sequels to come. I have to say, I’m so impressed that all of this crazed excitement has been generated by a book … once again, my spirit is heartened by the fact that all of this rabid fandom comes not from video games or pop star worship — all of this excitement comes from reading books. The naysayers have much to say about all this “silliness” over vampires but I am most taken by the fact that books have inspired this insanity. Kids are reading! I really do hope that Twilight exceeds all expectations. The more success that movies like this have, the more credence will be paid to the actual written word. It won’t be long now.

Pretty, pretty pictures
The Cast Of ‘Twilight’ Does ‘In Style’ Magazine

Yesterday we got to see a pretty unflattering coverphoto of Twilight star Kristen Stewart on the December/January issue of Teen Vogue magazine and to make up for it, we have a bunch of new (and much prettier) photos from In Style magazine. Kristen (who plays Bella Swan) is joined by her Twlight co-stars Robert Pattinson (who plays Edward Cullen) and Kellan Lutz (who plays Emmet Cullen) in this new In Style photospread:

Oh yes, these photos are MUCH nicer than the Teen Vogue photo and are right on par with the shoot that the cast did for Vanity Fair magazine. These Twilight kids are everywhere these days … I think they’re running out of magazines to be featured in. After the jump (for those of you who just can’t get enough), check out another batch of photos from this photospread …

Do try and contain yourselves
‘Twilight’ Outtakes From ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

Last Friday we got our first look at the new Twilight photos that are published in this month’s issue of Vanity Fair magazine … and today we get to check out a whole slew of outtake photos that didn’t make the magazine cut but have been published online at Vanity Fair‘s official website. Most of the photos feature just Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) and Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) but I threw in a photo of R. Pattz, Kristen and vamp villain Cam Gigandet (James) for hawtness sake:

From VF.com: We’ve been bitten! By the Twilight bug, that is. After posting three images of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and the rest of the upcoming film’s young cast last week, VF.com went back to photographer Peggy Sirota and asked for nine more images from the shoot, at California’s Ventura Farms. Feast your eyes!

Feast, indeed. I much prefer seeing the Twilight stars primped and glammed up for their photoshoots rather than disheveled and messy. At last, I can see chemistry between these two actors … there’s hope yet. Don’t forget to send in your entries for a chance to win the Twilight Prize Pack that I’m giving away here on the site (click HERE for all the deets). I’ve already received quite a few submissions … keep ‘em comin’!!!
