‘Twilight’ Gets The Barbie Treatment

Vampy emo love never looked so cute
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Back in June Mattel announced that they would be producing a line of Barbie dolls based on characters from Twilight and today we get to see a new promo photo for the dolls. Available on November 1, Bella Barbie Swan and Edward Ken Cullen will be flying off the store shelves, you just wait and see:

And there they are. Twilight Barbies. Twilight Barbie Bella and Twilight Barbie (Ken, really) Edward. Stephenie Meyer HERSELF art directed the design of the Twilight Barbies, which hit stores November 1, in time for the release of New Moon. They’re $24.95 each. And I don’t need to tell you this, but Bella and Edward Barbie were created in the likeness of the “Forever 17″ scene of Twilight, and actual costumes from the movie set were used to inspire the dolls’ costumes. If Mattel creates another version of Twilight Edward, I truly hope he sparkles when you take him out into the sun. Surely we have that kind of technology.

Look, you don’t need special technology to get Edward-Ken to dazzle in the daylight … all you need is a tube of Elmer’s All Purpose glue and some glitter and VOILA! vampire sparkle! Of the dolls that have been created to cash in on the rabid demand for Twilight merchandise, I think these Barbie dolls are the best. It’s unclear if Mattel plans to manufacture Barbie dolls based on any of the other characters but one hopes they’d at least make a Jacob Black doll, right? Well … while we wait for that to happen we can place our pre-orders for the Bella Swan Barbie doll HERE and the Edward Cullen Ken doll HERE.

The 2009 Teen Choice Awards Are Handed Out

'Twilight' walks away with 11 surf boards
Monday, August 10th, 2009

Last night tweens of all ages convened at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City here in LA for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. While the show doesn’t air on TV until tonight, the whole shebang was filmed last night. Britney Spears was on hand to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, the Ultimate Choice Award, from the Teen Choice folks but it was Twilight that cleaned up … taking home 11 surf board trophies. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets from last night’s affair:

“Twilight” struck a vein at the Teen Choice Awards. The adolescent vampire drama dominated Sunday’s ceremony with 11 wins, including choice movie drama, romance, liplock, rumble and soundtrack. Kristen Stewart won the movie drama actress category while Robert Pattinson picked up two surfboard-shaped trophies — one for movie drama actor, another for male hottie. “We’ll see you guys in theaters November 20th,” co-star Taylor Lautner teased the squealing crowd. Lautner and Ashley Greene, who will appear alongside Stewart and Pattinson in the upcoming “Twilight” sequel “New Moon,” were honored as the male and female movie fresh faces while Cam Gigandet was crowned movie villain. “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke joined the cast on stage to accept the adaptation’s pack of trophies. The Teen Choice Awards, which were selected by over 83 million votes cast online, honor celebrities in TV, film, music and sports. Several winners — including 16-year-old Miley Cyrus and show hosts the Jonas Brothers — took home multiple trophies at the 11th annual ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Gibson Amphitheatre. Cyrus sailed away with six awards, winning for comedy TV show and actress for “Hannah Montana;” music/dance movie actress and hissy fit for “Hannah Montana: The Movie;” music single for “The Climb” and summer song for “Before the Storm” with the Jonas Brothers. Cyrus also presented Britney Spears the ultimate choice award. “I’m a huge fans of hers,” Cyrus said before a subdued Spears accepted her own surfboard. The Jonas Brothers won five trophies, including choice male red carpet icons. They kicked off the show performing on a tiny stage that moved through the audience. Throughout the taped ceremony, the trio completed dares submitted by fans. At one point, younger brother Nick was challenged to hug a lineup of female fans. “It’s just hugs,” Joe cautioned the women. “You’re not going for long-term relationships here, girls.” Other big winners included “Gossip Girl” and Zac Efron. Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick picked up TV drama actor, actress, villain and TV series awards for the sudsy CW show while Efron won for music/dance movie actor in “High School Musical 3″ and comedy movie actor and rockstar moment in “17 Again.” The ceremony itself was peppered with several odd moments. Kathy Griffin arrived on the red carpet with Levi Johnston, the teenage ex-fiance of Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Mike Tyson took shears to Joe Jonas’ head as part of stunt. And before presenting the choice hottie awards, comedian Dane Cook pleaded to Vanessa Hudgens to keep her clothes on. The Teen Choice Awards is scheduled to air Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.

LOL! Yes, it was Dane Cook’s shout-out to Vanessa Hudgens’s nekkid pics that was the TRUE highlight of the show … which you can watch HERE just in case FOX decides not to air the interaction on TV tonight. After the jump, check out pics from the show of some of the winners collecting their surf board awards and check out the FULL VERY LONG LIST of Teen Choice Award Winners …

Joss Whedon Declares That Angel Would ‘Kick The Shit’ Out Of Edward Cullen

"There's no Edward Cullunus. He just gets shiny in the sun."
Thursday, August 6th, 2009

MTV caught up with Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, to get his opinion on who he thinks would win in a fight between Angel/Angelus or Edward Cullen of Twilight. Obvs, Joss is gonna root for his own character but I have to agree with him … Angel really would “kick the shit” out of prettyboy Edward:

Over a decade ago there was another vampire phenomenon taking over the psyche of teens everywhere. And that was “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The story of a slayer, Buffy, falling in love with a vampire, Angel, became an instant sensation when the show made its debut on the now defunct network, The WB in 1997. So, with “Twilight” mania taking over the world these days, how does “Buffy” creator, Joss Whedon, feel about the franchise? Long story short, he’s cool with it. “I don’t get this whole vampire romance thing. I mean that could never happen. Who would believe that? It seems so stupid. I literally thought that when I created the character if Angel,” he told MTV News. “I thought a vampire romance with a slayer … people are going to laugh me out of the room. They’ll never go for it. Clearly I was wrong. There’s something really timeless about it. I saw ‘Twilight’… there’s something primal about that story. You can’t get away from it. It works like gangbusters.” But, the big question is: Who would win in a fight: Edward Cullen or Angel? “I think Robert Pattinson is really cool. Angel would kick the shit out of him. He’s Angelus,” Whedon said without even flinching. “There’s no Edward Cullunus. He just gets shiny in the sun. Boreanaz would have him down in a heartbeat. No offense, cause he’s hot.”

Sorry Twilighters, Joss is right … in a head to head vampire battle, Angelus would mop the floor with Edward. But, to be honest, it’s all a moot point cuz Buffy would stake his ass first. After the jump, check out video of Joss’s interview with MTV to hear the colorful commentary straight from the horse’s mouth …

Barbie & Ken Go ‘Twilight’

Place your orders now, operators are standing by
Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Last December the world got its first set of dolls based on the wildly successful movie franchise The Twilight Saga … then earlier this year, Hot Topic got in on the fun and offered their own Twilight action figures (sold separately or in pairs). In anticipation of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, a doll based on the character Jacob Black got thrown into the mix … and now we learn that Barbie, the most famous doll in all creation, is jumping on board the Twilight bandwagon:

And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.Twilight has quickly become a worldwide phenomenon developing a strong core base of dedicated fans who are drawn to the story of a Romeo & Juliet style romance between mortal (Bella) and vampire (Edward). Who better to capture the young star-crossed love of these two characters than Barbie & Ken. Edward is luminescent with a shimmering complexion and trademark gold eyes. Bella doll sold separately.

The product description states that the dolls are safe for play for ages 6 and up … so I’m sure a great many of you should be OK in that regard. Unfortch, the dolls will NOT be available for sale until October of this year but you can place your pre-orders HERE. You know you don’t want to be the last kid on your block NOT to have the Barbie & Ken as Bella & Edward dolls, do you?

Whitney Port Hates The ‘Twilight’ Movie

"I haven't read the books, but ... I thought the movie was really bad."
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Oh snap! Whitney Port, star of MTV’s reality TV series The City, has gone on the record with MTV News to reveal that she thinks the Twilight movie is “really bad”. Despite the fact that she hasn’t read the books, Whitney says that neither the movie nor the actors impressed her very much. She even went so far as to call actress Kristen Stewart (who plays Twilight protagonist Bella Swan) “one-dimensional”Oh, no she didn’t! Read below to find out what other blasphemies Whitney deigned to utter about the vampire flick:

It seems like these days everyone has caught “Twilight” fever — even celebrities like Ashley Tisdale and Ryan Reynolds admit to being fans of the teen vampire saga. But, there’s one celebrity who isn’t buying into it — and she knows a thing or two about drama. Former “The Hills” and now “The City” star Whitney Port admitted to MTV News that, despite seeing the movie, she has yet to figure out just what the big deal is surrounding “Twilight.” “I haven’t read the books, but I saw the movie,” she said. “I thought the movie was really bad. I love whatever his name is … Robert [Pattinson]. I think he’s so good-looking and handsome. I haven’t met him.” Although Whitney has love for Robert, she has more lukewarm feelings for his “Twilight” co-star, Kristen Stewart. “She’s OK. She seems so serious, like she’s so one-dimensional,” she said. “I think [Stewart and Pattinson] have good chemistry … I just didn’t think the acting was so good.” With all that in mind, it seems that everyone in Hollywood — no matter how they feel about “Twilight” — has auditioned for a part in one of the upcoming sequels. It begs the question: Is Whitney looking to audition? “I’m not really so much of an actress. I didn’t do this to do acting,” she said.

LMAO!!!! Clearly, Whitney is not courting the rabid Twilight fanbase with her comments … I mean, even if you really didn’t like the film is it really smart to say so? I suppose the girl deserves credit for her honesty but if I were her, I’d watch my back. Twilighters are a fervently devoted group of folks … she’d be wise to steer clear of any Twilight fan for the foreseeable future. Whitney’s comments are even more telling when you hear them come from her mouth. After the jump, watch video of Whitney’s anti-Twilight comments for yourself …

‘Twilight’ Director Reveals Her Sexy Casting Methods

Trades the "casting couch" for her own bed
Friday, March 20th, 2009

As the Twilight movie is released on DVD this weekend … well, tonight at midnight actually, (as is evident from all of the advertising on the site today), new interviews about the film’s creation are being published all over the place this week. Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke talks to Life & Style magazine and reveals how she went about casting Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan. While some directors will have actors enact scenes in sterile offices and conference rooms, Hardwicke opted for a more intimate setting … her bedroom:

There’s no denying the chemistry between Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. And, as Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke tells Life & Style, finding co-stars with that special spark was all part of her plan! “[During casting] I did the whole scene in my bedroom to be sure that these two people had sparks,” Hardwicke told Life & Style at the launch of Twilight: Director’s Notebook in Santa Monica on March 17. “Are they intense? Are we going to believe it and love it?” And this director didn’t just stop at filming them in the bedroom; she wanted them to lock lips! “I said, ‘Yes, we really want you to kiss. I want to see if this works,’” she reveals. “Because at the end of the day, if it just doesn’t work, then it’s not going to work for the whole movie. So I made them go ahead and kiss, and the sparks did fly!” Will Rob and Kristen have the same passionate flame in New Moon?

Hahahaha … while this info is funny it’s also a bit creepy. I can’t imagine that it was all that comfortable for the pair to get all smoochy with one another in Catherine Hardwicke’s bed. The chemistry between the two must’ve been really palatable for it to show thru in the director’s bed room. I envision a lot of frilly, floral and lace pillows piled on the bed. ::Shudder::

And so … at last … Twilight will be available for purchase so that all y’all rabid Twilighters can watch the movie over and over and over to your heart’s content. I suspect there will be a lot of folks making their way out to the various midnight release parties that are happening all over the country. If YOU venture out tonight to pick up your copy of Twilight on DVD, send in your pics from the DVD release parties. I’ll be sure to post as many of them as I can on the blog tomorrow! Happy shopping!!
