It is that time of the year when I announce my Top Albums of the previous year and altho every single one of us has an opinion and even tho every single one of us ingests music differently, I still think it’s fun to find out what other people think was the best music of the year. It is with that fun attitude that I publish annually my list of fave albums. Some of the albums below may be on your top lists as well … maybe not. Some of them may be liked more than others … maybe not. But these are the albums that I loved most in 2011. Altho they are ranked from 10 – 1, I loved each of these albums immensely all year long. Earlier this month, Trent Reznor released the soundtrack recording to the new David Fincher film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo … for which he received his second Golden Globe nomination earlier this week. A couple of weeks ago, Reznor revealed that he plans on writing new material for Nine Inch Nails in 2012 … but first, he tells Rolling Stone magazine, the plan is to release the debut album of his new band How to Destroy Angels. Last year, musician Trent Reznor rode the wave of awards show acclaim all the way to the Academy Awards where he picked up the Oscar for Best Original Score for his work on The Social Network and this year, he’s on track to make the same awards show trip with his work on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Reznor is featured on the cover of the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine where he is profiled for his new success. Last Friday the soundtrack recording for the upcoming David Fincher film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, was released for sale and today we get to see the official music video for the soundtrack’s lead single. Reznor collaborated with Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O on a cover of the Led Zeppelin song Immigrant Song for the soundtrack (as featured in the first video trailer released for the film last May). Trent Reznor will be releasing the soundtrack score to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this Friday but he’s already thinking ahead to his next musical project … and according to Reznor, that next musical project will be a return to Nine Inch Nails. Altho NIN ended its live performance life back in 2009, TR always made it clear that NIN was not dead. In a new interview with BBC Radio, Reznor revealed that he plans on writing new music for Nine Inch Nails in the coming year. At last! The announcement that all Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor fans have been waiting for is FINALLY here! Reznor has announced the upcoming release of the soundtrack to the film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by releasing a 6 song sampler FOR FREE! In addition to the standard release of the soundtrack recording, a deluxe version of the album is also being offered for presale. AND, Reznor‘s version of the Led Zeppelin song Immigrant Song, featuring Karen O on vocals, is also now available for download. A long work day turned into a long work afternoon … turned into a long work evening … so unfortunately I was unable to make it down to Disneyland yesterday. But, thankfully, Audrey’s birthday party will be held in a couple of weekends so I’ll get to celebrate with the little angel then. A new press release/news report out today, issued to folks in the moving making business, is suggesting that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is ready to become a movie director. According to the article, TR has signed up with Wondros and will being making movies himself? The information isn’t totally clear … but that’s what it sounds like the report is saying. I want to take some time today to send out some major BIRTHDAY LURVE to Trent Reznor today as he celebrates another year of life. The past year has been a pretty significant one for Mr. Reznor … as he moved into his first full year of marriage with his beautiful wife Mariqueen, he welcomed the birth of a son last October and then went on a winning streak all movie awards season long, culminating in his first Academy Award at the Oscars this past February. Today, Trent turns another year older and that is absolutely cause for much celebration!

In his brief chat with the mag, Reznor opens up about how it felt to win an Oscar, he talks about new music due out this year, he reveals what music he plays for his infant son and he talks about the possibility of live touring in the near future.
