Shia LaBeof’s Doppelgänger Does All The Dirty Work

Cheers for the unknown stuntman
Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Shia LaBeouf is hard at work on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen these days but he’s not working as hard as you may have previously thought. Here are a few pics of Shia and his stunt double (who is a serious hottie) on set with the upgraded Transformer Bumblebee (2010 Chevrolet Camaro) each doing their thing:

Apparently, Shia’s thing is to just mess around on set, smiling for the camera every now and then and his stunt double has to do all the dangerous stuff, lookin’ hawt all the while. It’s pretty amazing how much the double looks like Shia … but more grown up and less kid-ish. I think I vastly prefer the double over the real thing … how ’bout y’all?

Shia LaBeouf Reports For Duty

Appears to be healing well
Monday, August 18th, 2008

Shia LaBeouf seems to be healing well from the recent car accident that he was involved in a few weeks ago here in LA. Once it was determined that Shia was not at fault for the accident (despite being cited for DUI on the night in question), wild rumors started to circulate that Shia was in danger of losing the finger he injured in the crash. Here are new pics of Shia on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen here in Hollywood, CA yesterday afternoon sportin’ a finger brace in one pic and not sportin’ it in the next:

This looks like a positive step forward in the lad’s rehabilitation. Firstly, this little brace looks much smaller than the huge one he was rockin’ in the days just after his accident. Secondly, if he is able to take off the brace if needed, I suspect his injuries aren’t as dire as we were led to believe (it was also reported that Shia’s injury was so bad and his rehabilitation would take so long that it would be written into the storyline of Transformers 2). I suspect that Mr. LaBeouf will, once again, be back to his old tricks in no time.

Bumblebee Reports For Duty

The 'Transformers' Star Shows Up on Set
Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

One of the major stars of last summer’s blockbuster movie Transformers was snapped on the set of the new sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which is currently shooting on the East Coast at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA as well as The Smithsonian museum in Washington DC … here are a couple pics of break-out star Bumblebee (ie. 2010 Chevy Camaro Z28) snapped via spycam and posted to Jalopnik:

Last time we saw it from afar, but now we’ve got the first close-up shot of what we’re now told is a Corvette concept shot on the set of the new Transformers 2 movie, Revenge of the Fallen. The latest shot, posted to the Motown Muscle forum, comes with some degree of reliability given it comes with two new shots of the “Bumblebee” version of the 2010 Chevy Camaro Z28. That’s right, our e-mail tipster, who also posted the shots on the forum, claims not only that this is a 2010 (or 2012) Corvette concept, but also that this isn’t the “SS” Camaro, it’s the Z28. Whether this mean we’d not only get a “Super Sport” package, but also a “special performance package” via a Z28 check box remains to be seen.

UHHH … yeah, I dunno what any of that means. All I know is that the pretty yellow car will transform into a huge robot in the movie. I’m also not sure who or what the unpainted other car is. Could it be another Transformer? Could it just be an extra car shell for use in the movie? Do I have any idea what I’m talking about? Not really … but I do love Transformers so any news is good news, yes? I still wish they could’ve kept Bumblebee as a Volkswagen Beetle rather than change him into a Chevy Camaro but I guess I can’t complain. The first movie turned out great … I’m sure part 2 will be even better.

It’s A Wrap

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Transformers 2, which has been filming for the past couple of days in Bethlehem, PA has wrapped production early this morning. Last night was the final full night of filming … that wasn’t so full, due to a massive rainstorm that plagued the area for most of the night. Here are a few pics from the final night of filming at the Bethlehem Steel plant which, for 3 days, was turned into a Hollywood movie set for the Transformers sequel:

Rain tested patience of fans at set of ‘Transformers 2′ before filming in Bethlehem concluded. Crews began packing up equipment this morning. He was one man, alone on the Fahy Bridge in Bethlehem at half past midnight Wednesday, huddled under a giant black umbrella in the driving rain. Aaron Gabriel just wanted to see fiery explosions in ”Transformers 2” on the big screen next summer and say he was there to witness the big bang in person. He would have to wait almost three more hours until the rain took a time-out, long enough for a pyrotechnics display on the former Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces to light up the sky, sending plumes white smoke into the air. To see something like that, Gabriel was prepared to wait until the sun came up. “It’s ‘Transformers.’ It’s a huge blockbuster,” he said. “How often does something like this happen in Bethlehem? I’m surprised more people aren’t out here in ponchos.” After three days of mayhem at the Steel site, filming in Bethlehem was expected to wrap up early this morning for the DreamWorks movie about shapeshifting robots from another planet. “Transformers 2,” the first big budget movie to be shot locally in years, has drawn crowds willing to wait for hours outside the set to see if director Michael Bay would live up to his reputation for blowing things up. But only a handful — those willing to stick it out, rain or not, until almost sunrise Tuesday and Wednesday — witnessed the explosions. Gabriel waited on the bridge the first night along with hundreds of others. As the night wore on, patience grew thin and so did the crowd. By 5 a.m. Tuesday, Gabriel was one of about four people on the bridge who saw the first series of pyrotechnics displays, small bursts of firecracker-like explosions that, he said, crept halfway up the blast furnaces, followed by simulated automatic weapons fire. The clear weather on Monday night and early Tuesday had allowed Bay to capture most of the wide-angle shots of the Steel that he needed for the scene, said Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan, who has been in close contact with the movie crew. The sequence filmed at the Steel takes place in a fictional Chinese city and includes “Transformers 2″ stars Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson, according to movie officials. In the scene, which will open the movie, Duhamel and Gibson’s characters will join with Chinese police and military to fight off at least one of the computer-generated “Transformers” robots. The scene also includes Black Hawk and Apache helicopters … On Wednesday morning, the filmmakers had counted on blowing up several buildings they had assembled on the Steel site. “That was the money shot for the scene they were shooting,” said Callahan. “That was the scene that had to happen.” But the steady rain threatened the pyrotechnics, the blisteringly hot lights and the helicopters flying close to the Steel’s blast furnaces. “They were concerned about not getting that [scene] done,” Callahan said. “But they did.” Despite the weather delays, the crew does not plan to film in Bethlehem for a fourth night, Callahan said, noting that Bay might film additional close-ups for the scene elsewhere. By 3 a.m. Wednesday the rain had stopped, and the distant rumble of a train on the tracks below the Fahy Bridge sounded enough like a helicopter to send the onlookers rushing for their binoculars. It was one of several false alarms. Minutes later a real helicopter began circling the set, making several passes with a spotlight. Suddenly a blast on the set, more than 1,000 feet away, shook the bridge as white smoke filled the air, prompting a chorus of cheers from the four movie fans. Sparks shot up the blast furnaces, and the bursts were followed by the sound of rapid gunfire. “That was big,” said Gabriel, laughing. “All right, what’s next?” … The blast was loud enough to send about a dozen neighbors rushing to join Gabriel’s group on the bridge, hoping to catch a glimpse of the explosion that lasted only seconds. About half stayed long enough to see a second blast at around 4 a.m., a repeat of the first. Then the rain came. The group became smaller and smaller. Gabriel stayed. Just before the sun rose, he saw what he had been waiting for: Another explosion sent a giant fireball shooting 20 to 30 feet in the air, he said. “It was awesome,” he said. “It was completely worth it, getting soaked in the rain. … Call me a fool for loving the big bang from an action film.”

It turns out that not only were Josh Duhamel and Tyrese on set this week in Bethlehem but so was Megan Fox. She sneaked into and out of town without anyone knowing she was there … until she had left, that is. Much love goes out to Pink reader Nina for sending me all the updates from Bethlehem, PA this week … I can’t wait to find out where the next scenes for Transformers will be filmed. [Source, Source]

Hollywood, PA

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008
Pink reader Nina lives in Bethlehem, PA and sends in a cool photo that she snapped (the night pic) and an article link from the first day and night of filming Transformers 2 at the Bethlehem Steel plant yesterday … check ‘em out:

A black military helicopter roared to life in Monday’s twilight, rising from the former Bethlehem Steel lot in front of a cheering crowd of hundreds. As the throng of toddlers, teenagers and grown-ups pointed and whipped out cell-phone cameras, another chopper buzzed low overhead — just a few minutes after Hollywood director Michael Bay had personally invited everyone to a better spot to watch the helicopters take off. “Oh my God, I have goose bumps on my arms!” gushed Leeann Smith of Bethlehem, making plans to spend the rest of the night beside Bay’s “Transformers 2″ set. Monday evening marked the start of filming in Bethlehem for the DreamWorks movie about giant shapeshifting robots from another planet. For the Bethlehem scene, which will open the movie, Bay has transformed the Steel site into a fictional Chinese city. Shooting will continue tonight and Wednesday night. Even before the cameras started rolling Monday night, hundreds from across Bethlehem and as far away as Harrisburg gathered on bridges and parking lots near the Steel, hoping for good views of the six helicopters on the set and Bay’s trademark pyrotechnics. “I’m a big fan of ‘Transformers’ from when they first came out with the cartoons,” said William LaTorre, who lives just a few blocks from the filming site. “I can’t wait to see the explosions [and maybe] people jumping off roofs and stuff.” It’s not clear whether stunts like that will really be part of the shoot, but officials with the production and Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan have indicated the scene will feature at least one computer-generated “Transformers” robot emerging in front of the Steel’s iconic blast furnaces and battling with Chinese police and military forces.

Nina’s night photo was taken at 5AM from the Fahy Bridge. She reveals that she spied “a semi full of Harleys” that she believes will get “totaled”. All of this action sounds really fun and I imagine that the folks in Bethlehem are enjoying it while they can. Filming is scheduled to happen tonight and tomorrow so there is still time for folks out there to see what they can see. It’ll be really cool to see what the final product will look like once the movie opens in theaters next year … we can think back and remember how the opening scenes of the movie got made.
