Over the weekend David and I got to see the powerful film Brothers starring Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal and I was totally blown away by Tobey‘s stunning performance … which is why I couldn’t resist posting these adorable photos of Tobey out with his little daughter Ruby Sweetheart over the weekend:

Don’t they make the cutest little couple? If you have seen Brothers, then you know that Tobey‘s performance in the film is very … intense. It’s so nice to see him looking so serene (tho stern, to be honest) with his little girl. If you are thinking about seeing Brothers, I cannot endorse it enough. It’s a great film … trust me, you will be impressed with Tobey‘s performance in the film.

Here are a couple of really cute pics of Tobey Maquire who plays Spider-Man on the big screen playing Spider-Man with his daughter Ruby Sweetheart and his son Otis Tobias (not pictured) on a playground in West Hollywood, CA earlier this week:

He doesn’t start shooting Spider-Man 4 until March but Tobey Maguire was getting some rehearsal in — well sort of — Friday in a park with his kids. Tobey and his jewelry designer wife Jennifer Meyer had their little ones, Ruby, 3, and Otis, 18 months, in a West Hollywood park on Friday when Tobey broke into a Spider-Man routine. Ruby and Otis loved it, smiling and laughing along with their dad. We loved it too. Tobey is one cool dad.

Cute!! Normally I’d prefer to see Tobey “hangin’” out in his tight-fitting Spider-Man costume but I don’t mind these photos at all. It looks like he has having more fun than his kids were ;) So cute!!

Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire were joined by Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson and fashion designer Christian Siriano and others at an NYC premiere screening event for their new film Brothers which was held at the SVA Theater last night. Unfortch, tho, Jake Gyllenhaal — who also stars in the film — was not in attendance at last night’s event. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals along with some deets about the movie itself:

Natalie Portman joined Toby Maguire for the premiere of their new movie Brothers in which they star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a modern take on the prodigal son parable. Portman plays Grace Cahill whose husband Sam, played by Maguire, is the model citizen, war hero and son of a combative Vietnam veteran. His brother Tommy is played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Tommy is a drunk who has recently been released from prison but when the news of the suspected death of his brother reaches the Cahill family, the delinquent brother turns over a new leaf to protect Sam’s children and wife. Tommy falls for Grace only for his brother to miraculously return from harrowing torture in Afghanistan and a battle for the beautiful Portman’s affection ensues. Focusing on political apathy for war and the troubles faced by families of servicemen, Brothers has been tipped for award success in the new year.

I only recently heard about this movie when I saw a trailer for it on TV … now that I’m learning that the film is a modern re-telling of the Prodigal Son parable, I’m even more intrigued. Despite my intense love for Jakey poo, I think this film looks really good overall (ie. I’d prolly see it even if Jake weren’t starring in it). From what I’ve seen thus far of Maguire‘s performance in the few clips I’ve seen already, it looks like his character is really … intense … and poor Nat is stuck in between the two brothers. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing this flick … despite it’s serious tone, it looks like a movie I’d deffo want to see in theaters, despite the holidays.

Yesterday was a very popular day at the Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch here in the Los Angeles, CA area as celebs of varying degrees of stature came out to pick up pumpkins with and for their children. Here are a few pics of some of the celebs that made their way out to the pumpkin patch yesterday to do some picking:

The celebs are getting a late start at the pumpkin patch this year. Last Halloween Lindsay Lohan started her pumpkin picking much earlier in the month of October than the celebs this year. Even still, yesterday seemed to be THE day that folks like Tobey Maguire, Marcia Cross, Tori Spelling and Nicole Sullivan decided to snatch up their Halloween pumpkins. See, celebs are just like you and me. Sure, they may have the help do all the messy pumpkin carving for them but they are the ones to do the actual manual labor of picking out the perfect pumpkins for their children. Amazing, isn’t it?

No partisanship, no advocacy for either candidate … the message is plainly VOTE. Woot! Folks here in LA are celebratin’ today that their beloved LA Lakers came back from a 3-1 deficit in the 2008 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and won Game 5 of the championship series at the Staples Center here in downtown LA last night. After their disappointing performance in Game 4, many naysayers were predicting that Boston would win last night’s game and send the Lakers home empty-handed and they would be taking the championship trophy with them back East to Boston … but the Lakers woke up, played like they’ve been playing all season long and pulled out another win, bringing the series tally to 3-2:

Pack up the championship trophy and book a flight back to Boston, the NBA finals aren’t over yet. The Los Angeles Lakers are headed East to try a historic comeback of their own. Kobe Bryant scored 25 points, including a decisive dunk in the final minute — and Lamar Odom added 20 as the Lakers, playing with pride on their star-studded stage, prevented the Celtics from winning a 17th title with a 103-98 win in Game 5 on Sunday night to close to 3-2 in this restored rivalry. No team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals to win a title. The first 28 failed, and now the Lakers, who blew a 24-point lead and lost Game 4 and nearly squandered a 19-point lead in Game 5, have a chance to do something extraordinary. They’ll have to win on the Celtics’ parquet floor Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all Game 7, where anything is possible … The Lakers needed to hold on to set up a Game 6 on Tuesday night back in Boston. A Celtics victory would give them 17 championships, and the first for their trio of Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

Of course, the Lakers faithful showed up in full force at the Staples Center last night … Including LA’s biggest fan of all …
