'The Artist' & 'The Descendants' Win the Big Film Awards, 'Homeland' the Big TV Award
The 2012 Golden Globe Awards Are Handed Out

Madonna wasn’t the only Golden Globe Award winner last night … a whole host of other folks were honored with awards in both film and television. The show itself, I gotta say, wasn’t nearly as entertaining as last year’s show. By all accounts, host Ricky Gervais did not perform as successfully this year as he did last year … and I think that fact had a huge impact on the show overall. A lot of my fave actors won this year (Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep, Madonna) as did some of my fave TV shows (Homeland, FTW!) … but I think the French silent film The Artist was the biggest winner of the night. Click below to see some photos from the red carpet arrivals, read some deets about the show itself and see some happy folks holding their shiny new Globes in the press room last night.

‘The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button’ Premieres

Brangelina were the belles of the ball at the Mann Village Theater in Westwood, CA last night for the Hollywood premiere of Brad Pitt‘s new film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The red carpet was a who’s who of celebs all vying for the chance to be seen at the premiere spectacle last night … here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals and some info on who came out for the big shindig:

Brad Pitt was surrounded by beautiful women at the LA premiere of David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” at the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood. Pitt and Angelina Jolie resembled classic old time movie stars. Looking a far cry from their busy mommy/daddy roles, Angie was elegant in a strapless black Versace gown, Ralph Lauren Vintage Collection drop earrings, her hair slicked back. Pitt wore a Tom Ford three-piece tuxedo suit and a moustache. But he also posed for photos with his onscreen love interest, Cate Blanchett, reportedly clad in a short, sparkly Alexander McQueen frock that looked suspiciously like a Nicolas Ghesquiere Balenciaga design, but what do I know. Brad’s parents Bill and Jane Pitt, were also on hand for their son’s big Oscar shot film. So were Jennifer Lopez, Gary Oldman, Eva Longoria-Parker, Sharon Stone and Oscar winning actress Tilda Swinton, wearing a Rodarte gown, who also plays one of Pitt’s lovers early in the film. In this incredibly moving and sweeping romance based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Pitt plays a boy who is born old but gets younger. He falls in love with Cate’s character whom he meets when he is very old man and she is very young girl, but they eventually hook up in the middle. It’s an astonishing film (getting major Oscar buzz) that gets you thinking about love, time, aging, youth, impermanence, relationships, faith, communication and all the people who’ve had an impact – big or small – in your life. Most amazing is the makeup and digital aging/youthing FX. Watching Blanchett and Pitt age in different directions is an astonishing feat that doesn’t distract from the magical love story. Blanchett didn’t make it to the flashy post party. But for a darn good reason. She hopped a red eye flight back home to Sydney so she could host the Wednesday “Button” Australian premiere, a big fundraiser for her pet passion, the Sydney Theatre Company.

Brad and Ange looked pretty amazing last night … the old skool Hollywood glam-look really works for them. It’s always a pleasure to see Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton on a red carpet … and Jennifer Lopez was lookin’ like her usual luscious Diva Latina self. Oh and I doubt that the Marley & Me premiere will be as lavish an affair as this premiere was. To be completely honest … I’m not sure I’m all that interested in seeing this film. Having seen the very extensive movie trailer pretty much gives the whole story away. BUT, there are two reasons why I will prolly make my way out to theaters to check it out — the movie is based on a story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and was directed by David Fincher (you may recall that Pitt and Fincher worked together on the stunning film Se7en). Since this is one Fitzgerald story I haven’t read yet, I’m intrigued to see what it may look like on the big screen. Add to that the fact that Fincher is one of my fave movie directors and, well, it looks like Mr. Button will be getting my $15 at the box office (unless I see it at home in Detroit, MI where my out of pocket expenses will be lowered to approx. $10).

Brad claims, 'I'll have two more [kids] by next year'
‘Burn After Reading’ Premieres In Venice

Brad Pitt (who was spotted in Venice, Italy yesterday with his two oldest sons), George Clooney, Tilda Swinton and the Coen brothers were all on hand for a photocall/premiere event at the Venice Film Festival earlier today to promote their new movie Burn After Reading. Here are a few pics from the event red carpet:

Burn After Reading looks like a pretty good film … I mean, the Coens are pretty amazing filmmakers and the cast is really superb (mainly, I’m most excited about Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand). It’s been ages since we’ve seen Brad Pitt in any kind of humorous film … I hope it’s as good as it appears from the trailer.

Speaking of Mr. Pitt, he and Mr. Clooney had themselves a little fun with the personal questions that were lobbed at them left and right at a press conference:

Reporters at a Burn After Reading press conference Wednesday in Venice, Italy, didn’t seem to care too much about the new comedy. Instead, they wanted to talk babies and marriage with the film’s stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Is it better to win an Oscar or fall in love with a beautiful woman, one reporter asked Pitt. “Brad, don’t answer that,” Clooney quipped. When a Hong Kong TV channel reporter asked Pitt if his twins look more like him or Angelina Jolie, Clooney stepped in again. “The twins are fine,” he said, according to Reuters. Does Clooney have any plans to settle down and have kids himself, another journalist asked. “I am so surprised to hear that question. That is honestly the first time I’ve been asked that question,” he joked. “I am getting married and having children today. Brad?” Replied Pitt, “And until then I’ll be sharing mine with him. I’ll have two more by next year.” Pitt made his first public post-twin appearance with Clooney Tuesday night at a Not On Our Watch fundraiser at Venice’s Giudecca island.

Yeah, you think Brad is kidding? I wouldn’t blink an eye if the Brangelina brood did, in fact, expand next year. It’s about time the fam got back to adoptin’ orphans, right?
