Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren Move Forward With Divorce

In the wake of the insanely embarrassing Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal, Tiger and his wife Elin Nordegren went thru a few month phase of what looked to be an attempt to keep their marriage intact. Altho the couple were never seen out in public in any affectionate fashion, they did appear to seem willing to work towards salvaging their marriage in an attempt to put Tiger‘s infidelitous extramarital affairs behind them. Just a couple of weeks ago, Elin left the US and returned home to her native Sweden without Tiger … which seemed to signal a break down in their attempt to salvage their marriage. Just recently, Elin returned home to be with her husband … and now TMZ is reporting that the couple are dunzo for good. According to today’s report, Tiger and Elin have decided to divorce and are hoping to do so as quickly and as quietly as possible:

TMZ has learned Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren are trying to strike agreements on child custody and division of assets … and then quietly and quickly file divorce papers to end their marriage. Sources very familiar with the situation tell TMZ … the most important thing for both Tiger and Elin is keeping the terms of the divorce confidential. We’re told Tiger has a team — partly based in NYC — that is working on the division of assets. But … as TMZ first told you … the key player is West Palm Beach lawyer Thomas Sasser, an expert in child custody agreements that involve more than one jurisdiction. Sources say one of the options is to actually file for divorce in Sweden — Elin wants to move there with the kids and Tiger would have to submit to the jurisdiction of the court. Wherever the divorce is filed, the plan is to keep the custody and property settlement agreements out of the court file. We’re told the quicker and quieter the divorce, the better. The big issue, we’re told — Tiger wants either custody or visitation, and assurance that he can go into court and enforce the agreement if Elin violates it. We’re told Tiger wants the option to go to either a Swedish or American court to enforce the custody agreement. And sources say … the couple has not reached agreement on any of the major issues … at least not yet.

This sounds about right. I could never, for the life of me, envision a scenario where Elin would be able to forgive and forget everything that Tiger put her thru both in public and in private. It would take a lot, I would imagine, for her to be able to stay married to Tiger Woods (especially considering how little regard he appears to have had for their marriage vows) and apparently her needs were not or could not be met. On Tiger‘s end, I have to say, I also see where he is coming from. Yes, he is a self-admitted cheating scuzz but he does appear to love his children very much. My guess is that they will be able to hammer out the terms of their divorce to everyone’s satisfaction in that Elin will get a nice settlement and Tiger will get the access to his children that he wants. I wouldn’t be surprised if Elin and the children moved to Sweden permanently with the caveat that they return to the US on a regular basis so that the kids could see their father. As they get older, they’ll prolly make the long trek back and forth on with nannies or on their own. What a crappy situation all around for the kids. Tiger Woods has ruined so many things due to his disgusting behavior … and the saddest part of his destruction has to be the ruination of his kids’ young lives with both of their parents.

Answers tough questions with carefully prepared responses
Tiger Woods Talks To ESPN & The Golf Channel

To prepare for his upcoming return to professional golf, Tiger Woods agreed to participate in two different interviews over the weekend on two different sports television networks to answer, one on one, some of the tougher questions that he has yet to answer personally (his first interviews since his public apology in February). It is my opinion that these interviews (which were limited to just 5 minutes each) were very well orchestrated and that he was fully prepared to answer every questions posed to him (tho, there were some questions that he would refuse to answer entirely) … in an effort to appear to the public (and his fans in particular) as if he is doing everything he can to get back in their good graces. It is also my opinion that the decision to participate in these two interviews is a stroke of genius by his PR team:

Love cheat Tiger Woods wants fans to clap him when he makes his golfing comeback next month, he said in his first TV interview since the sex scandal erupted. The shamed billionaire, who agreed answer any questions but restricted the chat to five minutes, also admitted he had been ‘living a lie’. The recording – just a month after his public apology for having at least 12 affairs – is seen as a calculated public relations drive to ease him back into the public eye as he prepares for the major tournament. And the married father of two told how he is nervous about returning to the U.S. Masters. Woods, 34, who has had two spells in sex rehab since November after crashing his car outside his Florida mansion, said: ‘I hurt so many people by my own reckless attitude and behaviour. I tried to stop and couldn’t stop. Talking to TV’s Golf Channel and ESPN, he revealed he was unsure about the reception he would get from fans when he plays at the U.S. Masters on April 8. ‘I’m a little nervous about that to be honest with you,’ he said. ‘It would be nice to hear a couple claps here and there. But also hope they clap for birdies, too.’ Woods also denied that his wife Elin Nordegren had attacked him on the night of the crash on November 27, 2009, after finding out about one of his affairs, adding: ‘Well, it’s all in the police report. Beyond that, everything’s between Elin and myself and that’s private.’ Asked why he lost control of the car, Woods replied: ‘As I said … that’s between Elin and myself.’ A string of women – including a porn actress and cocktail waitress – have come forward and claimed they had relationships with the golfer. He did not discuss details about his affairs but said that ‘just one is enough and obviously that wasn’t the case’. He also talked of the ‘brutal’ moments when he levelled with Elin. He said she was, ‘Hurt. Very hurt. Shocked. Angry. And, you know, she had every right to be and I’m as disappointed as everyone else in my own behaviour because I can’t believe I actually did that to the people I loved.’ Woods agreed to speak with a reporter from the U.S. sports channel ESPN sports and did not place any restrictions on questions that were asked. His only stipulation for the interview, which was carried out at the luxury Isleworth complex, near Orlando, Florida, was that it would last no longer than five minutes … Woods, who has been in therapy for nearly half of the past four months, said of his eagerly awaited return: ‘I’m excited to get back and play. I’m excited to get to see the guys again. ‘I really miss a lot of my friends out there. I miss competing. But still, I still have a lot more treatment to do, and just because I’m playing, doesn’t mean I’m gonna stop going to treatment.’ The sportsman – famed for his privacy – conceded the world knew him ‘a lot better now’. ‘I was living a life of a lie,’ he said. ‘I really was. And I was doing a lot of things, like I said, that hurt a lot of people. And stripping away denial and rationalisation you start coming to the truth of who you really are and that can be very ugly. But then again, when you face it and you start conquering it and you start living up to it. The strength that I feel now, I’ve never felt that type of strength.’ Woods’s last tournament appearance was on November 15, 2009 – when he won the Australian Masters.

While I personally was not impressed with either of these interviews, I absolutely think they will work to his advantage with his target audience … golf fans. He continues to do everything right … he’s already publicly apologized, he’s got his wife back on board with him and now he is giving the appearance of approachability to the press. After he makes his official return to professional golf next month, his plan will be nearly complete. At this point, he’s biting the bullet … doing what he has to do to make his Cheating Scandal a thing of the past. After the jump, check out video of Tiger‘s interviews with ESPN and The Golf Channel

‘South Park’ Does Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods made a public apology on national TV on February 19 to try and make amends for his now infamous Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal … and right on cue, the animated series South Park will lampoon Tiger‘s televised apology on their new season premiere ep airing just under a month after Woods‘s apology on March 17. Here is our first look at “Tiger Woods” on South Park:

“South Park” would not miss the chance to mock on Tiger Woods and his press conference to confirm that he had performed infidelity in the past. The married golfer is animated in the Comedy Central series and the character said he’s entitled to enjoy the temptation that comes with being a successful celebrity. Cartman is seen behind him throughout. The Tiger Woods episode will be the opening of the 14th season which begins Wednesday, March 17. “It’s such an important issue in America right now – the sex addiction outbreak,” creator Matt Stone told the AP on Friday, March 12. “We’re all really concerned about him and hope he gets better.” Stone, who worked on the show with Trey Parker, said that they could make an entire season out of Woods’ story. “There’s a delicacy in talking about (Woods) that we don’t have to worry about,” Stone said. Tiger Woods made a statement before selected audience at TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour, on February 19 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He admitted to cheating on wife Elin Nordegren and asked for privacy during the difficult time. Stone said he was both fascinated and disgusted by Woods’ public apology, but would not reveal how they will translate it on the episode.

Well, I guess we’re just gonna hafta tune in to the season premiere of South Park to see how Tiger‘s apology will translate on the show. To be honest, I can’t even tell you the last time I watched a full episode of SP … it’s been a few years (I believe I was still with Erik when I was still enamored of the show) … but I really love how the show is able to capitalize and pounce on news of the day in such an almost immediate manner. After the jump, check out a very short preview clip from this season premiere ep of South Park for a taste of what’s in store …

Tiger Woods Goes Back To Work

Tiger Woods, who is out of rehab and reportedly back home with his family, was spotted hard at work on a golf course near his home this week hittin’ a few golf balls to, presumably, get himself back in playing shape. It’s unclear when exactly Tiger is planning his return to professional golf but the fact that he is back to practicing again might be a clue that his return might be sooner rather than later:

Tiger Woods is golfing like a man possessed — hitting ball after ball after ball at the golf course near his home in Isleworth … and TMZ has obtained the first unstaged photos of Woods back in action. Woods hit the course yesterday with 2 male companions and practiced his ass off from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM — working on everything from drives to pitches and putts. We’re told Tiger’s session was uninterrupted — and he seemed completely focused throughout the entire grueling workout. As we previously reported, sources in Isleworth tell us Tiger is dead set on competing for the Tavistock Cup — which will be held at the same Isleworth golf course where he’s practicing.

It sounds like Tiger‘s got a plan. Now that he’s made his public apology, now that he’s back home with his family, now that he’s back to practicing on the golf course … he’s bound to be anxious to get back to the business of professional golf. As I’ve said before, time heals all wounds … in a few months, his scandal will be a thing of the past … in a year, it will be all but forgotten. His road to redemption starts now.

"For all that I have done, I am so sorry ... I was unfaithful, I had affairs."
Watch: Tiger Woods’s Public Apology

Earlier this week we learned that Tiger Woods, embattled golf star and extramarital cheater extraordinaire, would be making a public statement today in front of the world to break his silence in person for the first time since the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal broke last November (as you may recall, Tiger initially broke his silence on his official website last year but this would be his first in person statement since the scandal broke). Just moments ago, Tiger Woods overtook the TV and Internet airwaves to deliver his mea culpa. Here are a few screencaps from his appearance along with some excerpts from his speech:

Tiger Woods has apologized for having affairs and says he is unsure when he will return to competitive golf. “I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did was not acceptable,” said Woods, looking composed and speaking in a steady voice. His wife, Elin, was not obviously present. As for coming back to the PGA Tour, Woods said: “I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don’t know when that day will be. I don’t rule out it will be this year.” Woods talked for more than 13 minutes Friday from the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour. About 40 people were in the room, including his mother. He hugged her when he finished speaking. “I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior,” Woods said. Admitting he felt he “deserved to enjoy the temptations” that came with his fabulous success, Woods said he is solely responsible for his actions. Woods said he was in treatment for 45 days and will return for more therapy, adding he has more work to do to resolve his personal problems. The world’s No. 1 golfer had not talked in public since his traffic accident Nov. 27 triggered shocking revelations about Woods’ serial infidelity. Friday’s event was tightly controlled, with only a few journalists allowed to watch Woods live. Woods’ televised confession became a major television event with the networks breaking in to show it live.

Thus far, the entire transcript of Tiger‘s statement has not been made available but I do have the full 13+ minute video of his statement in case you missed it — you can watch video of Tiger Woods‘s full apologetic statement after the jump …

Announces a huge press conference
Tiger Woods Comes Out Of Hiding, Goes For A Jog

After many weeks in hiding, disgraced golf star Tiger Woods came out of the hole he’s been living in yesterday to go for a friendly jog (with a female-looking [?] companion who is NOT his wife Elin Nordegren), showing his face in public for the first time since the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal rocked the world. Altho it was reported that Tiger did surface on the grounds of a rehab center in Mississippi last month, this is the first confirmed outing for Woods in weeks. Tiger‘s public jog occurred just hours after his people released a statement announcing that he will be giving a press conference tomorrow to address the scandal he’s been embroiled in. It would appear that Tiger Woods is attempting to take back COMPLETE CONTROL of the situation that has gotten way out of hand. Here’s a pic from Tiger‘s jog and the full text of his press conference statement announcement:

Tiger Woods is ready to come out of his shell, planning a talk this Friday, February 19 which will be opened only to “a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates”. Scheduled to begin 11 A.M. EST at TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., the golfer will apologize for unspecified past behavior and discuss his plans for the future.

“While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between him and his wife, he also recognizes that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him. He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends, and that’s what he’s going to discuss.”

It’s not entirely clear what Tiger will say but I suspect some sort of public apology is on the way. Considering that NO QUESTIONS will be allowed, he’ll basically stand in front of cameras and deliver a carefully-worded speech that has been crafted for the occasion. I’m very curious to hear what he has to say, to hear what sins he’ll admit to but I doubt I’ll be very impressed. The event will take place tomorrow morning at 11AM ET, 8AM PT … stay tuned!

Is it or isn't it him?
Tiger Woods Found In A Mississippi Rehab Center?

Rumors have been flying all over the place as to Where in the World is Tiger Woods these days in the wake of the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal which drove him into hiding. While we’ve had a few sightings of embattled wife Elin Nordegren in the past few weeks, the only place Tiger Woods has shown up is on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. There was a rumor back in December that Woods checked himself into a rehab clinic in Arizona but no real proof emerged from that report. Recently, The National Enquirer and others have claimed that Tiger Woods is actually in a sex rehab clinic in Mississippi … and this time, the Enquirer is claiming to have photographic proof:

Tiger Woods is receiving treatment for sexual addiction at a sex rehabilitation clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi according to two television stations and an author on the topic. Television stations WJTV and WLBT reported, citing unnamed sources, that Woods was at the Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services center, where security is tight and dark tarps have been placed upon wire fences. Benoit Denizet-Lewis, who wrote a book on sex addiction, wrote in a blog entry that Woods was receiving treatment at the sex-rehab facility, where he spent time while working on the book regarding sexually compulsive behavoir. Clinic officials have refused to confirm Woods is there to the television stations. ESPN also reported officials would not confirm Woods is a patient. Woods has admitted infidelity to wife Elin and more than a dozen women have claimed to have had affairs with the world’s top golfer, a scandal touched off when Woods drove his vehicle into a hydrant and a tree nearly two months ago.

HMMMM. I’m not sure that this photo provided by The National Enquirer is actually of Tiger Woods at all … but that doesn’t necessarily invalidate the claims that he is, indeed, checked into a sex rehab center in Mississippi. I mean … it could be him in the photo … just like it could be a staged photo to make it look like it’s him. What do y’all think … first, do you think Tiger Woods is really gettin’ help for his supposed sex addiction in Mississippi? And second, do you think this is a photo of Woods at said Mississippi rehab clinic?

Tiger Woods Does ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

Embattled golf star Tiger Woods is featured on the cover of the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine, photographed by renown photographer Annie Leibovitz. Woods posed for Leibovitz in the days before the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal broke around Thanksgiving last year and, as a result, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the mag. I suspect an interview with Woods was not completed by the time the scandal broke because the coverstory article features no quotes from Woods himself and really only rehashes the drama that has engulfed his life in the past few weeks. Here is Tiger‘s VF cover and some excerpts from the coverstory article:

It wasn’t until after the early-morning hours of November 27—when Tiger Woods got into his Cadillac Escalade closely trailed by a golf club carried by his likely very furious wife, drove his car far less distance than he putts a golf ball, and hit a fire hydrant—that the tens of millions of us who admired him suddenly came to a realization: this was the first time we had ever seen him do something human, except perhaps for when, at the Buick Open last year, he was caught on video shaking his leg, apparently farting, and then grinning like a frat boy. We know all too well the unraveling that has gone on since the crash. Tiger’s little car ride was as pregnant with imminent implosion as the one taken by another sports celebrity on the San Diego Freeway, followed by a convoy of Los Angeles police cars, in 1994. Tiger’s story has been driven by sex, tons of it, in allegedly all different varieties: threesomes in which he greatly enjoyed girl-on-girl, and mild S&M (featuring hair-pulling and spanking); $60,000 pay-for-sex escort dates; a quickie against the side of a car in a church parking lot; a preference for porn stars and nightclub waitresses, virtually all of them with lips almost as thick as their very full breasts; drug-bolstered encounters designed to make him even more of a conquistador (Ambien, of all things); immature sex-text messages (“Send me something naughty … Go to the bathroom and take [a picture],” “I will wear you out … When was the last time you got [laid]?”); soulful confessions that he got married only for image and was bored with his wife; regular payments of between $5,000 and $10,000 each month to keep his harem quiet. It’s all there and more in what is the greatest single fall in popularity of a nonpolitician in the history of public-opinion surveys: a drop in approval from 87 percent in 2005 to 33 percent, with an unfavorable rating of 57 percent, according to a recent USA Today/Gallup poll … In an age of constant gotcha and exposure, [Tiger] had always been the bionic man in terms of personality, controlling to a fault and controlled to a fault, smiling with humility and showing those pearly white teeth in victory or defeat, sui generis in the world of pro golf, where even fellow pros and other insiders didn’t really know him, because he didn’t want anybody to know him. With Woods, everything was crafted to produce a man of nothing, with no interior—non-threatening and non-controversial.

Well, that was then, this is now. This Vanity Fair coverstory refers to an old interview that Tiger Woods did for GQ early on in his career that shows just how human he used to be … before he knew any better. After the jump, read that excerpt from this VF artcile …

Sex addiction, you say?
Tiger Woods Reportedly Checks Into Rehab

Tiger Woods has been pretty much M.I.A. for the past few weeks in the wake of the explosion of the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal that erupted around Thanksgiving last month. There are rumors that Woods had to secretly get plastic surgery to fix the injuries to his face, reportedly caused by his wife Elin Nordegren after she bashed him with a golf club … but none of this has been substantiated at all. Today there is a new report that claims that the reason that Woods has been out of sight is because he has checked himself into a rehab clinic in Arizona — for sex addiction:

Golfer Tiger Woods is planning to enter rehab in Arizona for a sex addiction as well as Vicodin and Ambien use, according to The Daily Mail. Questions have swirled about Woods having a “sexual compulsion” after he was connected to numerous alleged mistresses following an accident outside his Florida home Thanksgiving weekend. That accident supposedly followed on the heels of an argument with his wife, Elin Nordegren, regarding a text message from one of the alleged mistresses, Rachel Uchitel. And the officer investigating the accident reportedly requested a subpoena because he thought Vicodin or Ambien may have been a factor in the crash. The golfer is believed to be at one of two upscale rehabilitation centers in Arizona: Cottonwood de Tucson or The Meadows, according to celebrity news outlet X17. Other reports say Woods traveled to Arizona for reconstructive facial surgery that he needed after Nordegren allegedly hit him in the side of the face with a 9-iron during their Thanksgiving confrontation. A message received by legendary sports writer Furman Bisher of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution claims Woods ran from his house, without shoes, while Elin continued swinging the club at him. “When [Elin] hit Tiger, she put a huge gash in the right side of his face next to his nose… knocking out two of his upper teeth, and breaking the bone on the upper right side,” the message details.

While I’m not totally sure I believe the plastic surgery rumor (which, you gotta admit, does seem plausible) I do kinda believe the rehab report. It makes sense that Tiger would do something positive and proactive in the wake of the mess he got himself into … going to rehab sends a message of contrition and admitted guilt. It also affords him a place to disappear from the world. If Tiger is smart, then he is getting some form of help for the problems he’s dealing with these days. This mess is far from blowing over and he’s got a long way to go to soldier thru this scandal.

Out of respect for his "privacy"
Tag Heuer Dumps Tiger Woods

In a move reminiscent of the one taken by both Gatorade and Gillette earlier this month, Swiss luxury watch company Tag Heuer has decided to dump downscale Tiger Woods‘s appearance in their advertising materials in “certain markets” in an attempt, they say, to “respect his privacy”. MMM HMMM:

Swiss watch maker Tag Heuer said Friday that it will “downscale” its use of golfer Tiger Woods’ image in its advertising campaigns for the foreseeable future. The company said it will continue its relationship with Woods but is modifying its marketing programs in certain regions out of respect for his request for privacy. How long the change last will depend on Woods’ decision about returning to professional golf, the company said. Woods has been a pitchman for Tag Heuer since 2002. The company said it will continue to support Woods’ charitable foundation, which is based in Irvine, Calif. After initially standing by Woods, the company moderated its support Monday by saying it would assess its relationship with the world’s highest-earning athlete. The Swiss company, a unit of luxury goods empire LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, is at least the third sponsor to back away from Woods since his admission of extramarital “transgressions.” Consulting firm Accenture dropped the athlete Sunday, saying he was “no longer the right representative” of the company’s values. Gillette, a unit of the Procter & Gamble Co., said over the weekend that it won’t air ads for its razors that include Woods or include him in public appearances. AT&T said it is evaluating its relationship with the golf superstar. Woods has taken an indefinite leave from golf to work on repairing his marriage after numerous allegations of infidelities that surfaced following a November car crash near his Florida home. Tag Heuer did not specify in which markets it was curtailing use of Woods’ image.

Once a golden boy for advertisers, Tiger Woods is now toxic material for them. Because of the mire of shizz he is seeped in these days, the products that he is attached to are looking a lot less attractive to consumers … it makes total sense that his big name sponsors would want to run like hell in his opposite direction. This mess is far from over … the fallout is only just now becoming more clear. I expect Tiger still has at least a few more rocky months ahead. Which advertiser will be next to give him the heave ho?
