Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To Detroit, 05.31.09

To get right to the point and completely without any bit of hyperbole, I have to declare that yesterday was among the best days of my life. The things my friends and I got to experience at the NIN/JA 2009 Tour stop here in the metro Detroit, MI area yesterday are pretty much the things that I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life. I’ll try to be concise and not ramble but, seriously, the day was too epic to adequately describe. Sarah, Mark, David and I arrived at DTE Energy Center Pine Knob early in the afternoon so that we could participate in the meet and greet festivities that came with donating money to help fund Eric De La Cruz‘s heart transplant. We met a bunch of great Detroiters, including Pink readers Monique and Brandon, and all got to share the experience together. I’m gonna put the many, many photos I want to share behind the cut so that only those of you interested can check them out. I will post this awesome photo of the “Bodypaint Girls” who came to the show wearing no tops, only airbrushed bodypaint to cover their bodies:

Believe me, they looked more amazing in person. You can see what they looked like from the front HERE.

After the jump, check out photos and video from the NIN soundcheck, pics of some of us with Nine Inch Nails and some of the photos of the show that I got to snap while I was ON STAGE with the band during their performance …

Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To Las Vegas, 05.18.09

Yesterday was our only full day here in Las Vegas, NV and it was chock full of amazingness. After I finished writing yesterday, David and I met up with new friends Rob and Tamar for a bite to eat at Simon here in Palms Place Hotel and Spa. Potent and tasty drinks were paired with delicious sushi, Simon provided us with a sumptuous meal to enjoy while we all hung out together. Getting to meet and hang out with Rob and Tamar was long overdue … I was very happy that we finally got it together and got the chance to hang. They are both incredibly cool people, we had a blast. After our extended late lunch was finished, we parted ways to get ready for the NIN/JA show at The Pearl concert venue inside the Palms Hotel and Casino. While the NIN/JA 2009 Tour is made up of the full sets performed by Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction (for some reason Street Sweeper Social Club did not perform last night), the NIN portion of the show was been titled Wave Goodbye:

Most of the NIN merch features this logo which really hits home that this is the last time we’ll be seeing NIN on tour for some time. But the show must go on … and I was hellbent on enjoying the show without thinking about anything beyond the performance. It pains me to report this but it appears that the memory card on which I took all of my concert photos is damaged … I am unable to retrieve any of them (altho, I can still view them on my camera). I’ll have to wait until I get home at the end of the week to try and salvage the photos. Instead, here are a few photos that were posted to the official NIN website (and taken by Rob and Leo):

Man, where to begin. The show was spectacular … NIN is in fine form on this tour. They sounded great. And you can absolutely tell that Trent Reznor is very clearly happy. There is a joy in his performance that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. The mix of old and new songs gave the show a weird feeling … in that the classic songs from the early 90′s intermingled with more recent tracks evoked an entire range of emotion in me. I hadn’t heard Heresy performed in concert since 1995 (I think), it sounded kickass last night. I just had a blast. You can always judge the quality of an audience during NIN‘s performance of Hurt. The Vegas crowd last night was respectful and appreciative of the performance, it all just came together to make a concert to remember. The best songs for me were The Fragile, Gave Up and their Adam Ant cover Physical (You’re So). Here is last night’s full setlist:

01 Somewhat Damaged
02 Terrible Lie
03 Heresy
04 March of the Pigs
05 The Frail
06 Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)
07 Metal
08 The Big Come Down
09 Gave Up
10 The Fragile
11 I Do Not Want This
12 The Downward Spiral
13 Wish
14 Survivalism
15 The Day The World Went Away
16 Physical
17 The Hand That Feeds
18 Head Like a Hole
19 Hurt

The band plays a full set but, for me, it ended way too soon. Trust me, I absolutely understand that TR is showing mad respect for Jane’s Addiction by letting them perform last but it felt so strange for NIN to finish their set and then wait for another band to perform. Jane’s was great but I was really there for NIN. I am so excited that I’ll get to see them again at the end of the month back home in Detroit but I ain’t gonna lie … I’m gonna be bummed as hell after that show. It may be the last NIN show I see for a very, very long time :(

After the show, David bailed and called it a night while I met up with Rob, Tamar and some of their friends. We did some partying in the Playboy Club at the top of The Palms and then spent time on the casino floor gambling (and losing) and drinking and hanging out (until the wee hours of the morning, OY!). It was a really fun night, all around. I urge y’all to see NIN while you can … this tour is not to be missed.

Our time here in Vegas is already over, we leave for NYC in a few hours (which is why today will be a shorter blogging day for me) and will be there for the rest of the week. Much love and thanks goes out to Larry Fink and the entire staff here at the Palms Place Hotel and Spa. They took such amazing care of us, I hope we’ll be able to come back and enjoy their hospitality again.

So … I’ll be working right up until we have to jet and then I’ll be comin’ atcha from the East Side.

Nine Inch Nails Prepares To Launch The NIN/JA 2009 Tour

NIN.com has been updated with a new photo of Trent Reznor and the rest of Nine Inch Nails getting in some last minute rehearsals on the eve of the launch of the NIN/JA 2009 Tour which will take them around the country and across the globe on tour with Jane’s Addiction and Street Sweeper Social Club. Here is a pic of TR and the boys rockin’ out in West Palm Beach, FL during one of their rehearsals:

Additionally, TR successfully got Apple to allow an update to their wildly popular NIN:access iPhone App and have announced that users will soon be given a link so that they can view activity from the opening night of the tour (and beyond) as it happens. As you should know by now … this is the last time we’ll be able to see NIN live in concert for some time. Get it while you can. I am very much looking forward to hearing reports from tomorrow night’s opening show. I’ll be seeing at least 2 of the forthcoming concerts … this time around, I want to know what NIN has got in store for us on the road.

NINJA2009.com offers an EP with unreleased songs from NIN, Jane's Addiction & Street Sweeper
Trent Reznor Releases A Batch Of Unreleased Music

As promised and in celebration of the upcoming NIN/JA Tour that will feature co-headliners Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction and Tom Morello‘s new project Street Sweeper, Trent Reznor launched the new site www.NINJA2009.com earlier this morning. Visitors to the site are offered the opportunity to download a 6 song EP that features unreleased tracks from all three bands (2 songs from each). Here is what the artwork for the EP looks like:

The tour sampler offers FREE studio versions of the previously unreleased Nine Inch Nails outtake tracks Not So Pretty Now and Non-Entity that were recorded during the With Teeth album sessions. Non-Entity appears on the Beside You In Time DVD but neither track has ever been officially made available by TR … until now. The two Jane’s Addiction tracks, Chip Away and Whores, appear to be from the recording sessions for their new album (which, I understand, was produced by Trent Reznor). The two Street Sweeper tracks, Clap for the Killers and The Oath, are our first tastes of Tom Morello‘s new project. I’ve already listened to all of the tracks twice now and they rock. What a great way to get amped up for the coming NIN/JA Tour. Head on over to NINJA2009.com NOW to download this free music … you won’t be disappointed.

NINJA2009.com to provide upcoming NIN/JA Tour info
Nine Inch Nails To Launch A New Tour Website

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has more recently begun using his personal Twitter account (as opposed to the official Nine Inch Nails Twitter account) to disseminate random thoughts along with information about the upcoming NIN/JA Tour (which, as you should know, will feature NIN, Jane’s Addiction and Tom Morello‘s new project Street Sweeper all on the same stage) that will open here in the US in a couple of months. Over the weekend, TR sent out a tweet message asking folks for song titles that they would like to hear NIN cover on the upcoming tour and today he sent out a couple of tweets with added concert dates (Austin on 05/12 at the Frank Erwin Center and Mansfield, MA on 06/03 at the Comcast Amphitheatre — which will replace the previously announced date in Darien Lake). TR also announced, via Twitter, that next Friday the site NINJA2009.com will officially launch:

Trent tweets: Be sure to watch http://www.ninja2009.com which goes live next Friday 3/20 – who knows what might be there?

Woot! A new site like this is bound to have a bunch of fun stuff to share … videos, blogs, who knows? I have to say that I am totally diggin’ Trent Reznor on Twitter … it’s really cool and strangely fascinating to have a direct conduit to the man in this way. Hearing the info straight from him makes the whole enterprise much more interesting. He posted short messages while NIN was on tour in Australia last month providing an insight into his performance mindset both before and after the shows … so fascinating. I am very much looking forward to further updates from him as the tour nears and then gets underway. I suspect that next week’s site launch will provide info on ticket sales for the tour. Stay tuned!

Trent Reznor Announces ‘NIN/JA Tour’ Support Act

Trent Reznor posted a new announcement on the official Nine Inch Nails website last night letting the world know that NIN and Jane’s Addiction would be joined by another act for their upcoming NIN/JA Tour here in the US. Street Sweeper, a new project which features Tom Morello and Boots Riley, will join the NIN/JAs as the opening act on the tour. Here is the full text of this latest announcement from TR:

FULL LINEUP ANNOUNCED!

Our tour this summer with Jane’s Addiction just got that much cooler. I’m happy to announce the addition of Street Sweeper – the new project featuring Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine / The Nightwatchman) and Boots Riley (The Coup). Have an exclusive first listen RIGHT HERE. We are aiming to make this much more than just three acts sharing a bill… Tour dates RIGHT HERE. On sale info coming soon.

Woot! As you may recall, TR announced a batch of NIN/JA Tour dates earlier this week and now we know the full make-up of the tour’s lineup. I can’t even wrap my head around all the awesomeness … Tom Morello from Rage, Jane’s MF Addiction and NINE INCH NAILS. I fear my head will explode at the first show … I can’t wait to find out :)

The NIN/JA Tour is comin' our way
Trent Reznor Releases The Official List Of US Tour Dates

Trent Reznor and the boys of Nine Inch Nails have returned home to the States after completing their short tour of New Zealand and Australia which took place over the last few weeks and are already planning their concert tour outing with Jane’s Addiction which will take place here in the US later on this Spring/Summer. TR updated the official Nine Inch Nails website with a batch of SOME concert dates (which, incidentally, do not match up with the leaked dates we got last week … so those dates must be wrong) which I present to y’all here:

3.3.09: some official NIN/JA tour dates
Here’s what we can tell you so far:

Fri-May-08 West Palm Beach, FL [Cruzan Amphitheatre]
Sat-May-09 Tampa, FL [Ford Amphitheatre]

Thu-May-14 Albuquerque, NM [Journal Pavilion]

*** Fri-May-29 Chicago, IL [Charter One Pavilion] NINE INCH NAILS Only
Sat-May-30 Noblesville, IN [Verizon Wireless Music Center]
Sun-May-31 Clarkston, MI [DTE Energy Music Theatre]
Tue-Jun-02 Toronto, ON [Molson Amphitheatre]
Wed-Jun-03 Darien Lake, NY [Darien Lake Amphitheatre]
Fri-Jun-05 Camden, NJ [Tweeter Center At The Waterfront]

Tue-Jun-09 Columbia, MD [Merriweather Post Pavilion]
Wed-Jun-10 Burgettstown, PA [Post-Gazette Pavilion]
Fri-Jun-12 Charlotte, NC [Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre]

The implication to me is that this is just the first set of dates that have been finalized and can be officially announced. I suspect that more dates will be added to this list. I’m happy to see that the LA area dates as well as the Detroit area dates are included in this first round of announced dates. I deffo plan to see the guys here in LA (the Irvine, CA show) and may even fly home to see them in Detroit (the Clarkston, MI show). While I am very excited that NIN will be back on stage so soon after the end of their last tour, I’m starting to get more bummed that this tour will be the last NIN tour for some time (or ever!). BUT, we should focus on the positive and look forward to these new dates. I am very, very excited. NIN and Jane’s Addiction … I cannot wait!
