Logo, the gay and lesbian-themed network from MTV Networks, pays homage to the pioneers of today who are transforming and defining tomorrow’s pop culture with the second annual “NewNowNext Awards” 2009. Hosted by RuPaul, the world’s most famous drag queen, this year’s celebration will feature a number of special guests and performers including Britney Spears who will be honored with the Always Next, Forever Now Award. Given annually, this special award pays homage to beloved LGBT icons. Premiering on Logo and simultaneously streaming on LOGOonline.com Saturday, June 13 at 9 PM ET/PT, “NewNowNext Awards” 2009 will be taped at the Hiro Ballroom from The Maritime Hotel in New York City on May 20. This year’s show will also feature appearances by Britney Spears, Vanessa Williams, Lance Bass, Robert Verdi, Wendy Williams, Lisa Lampinelli, Cheyenne Jackson as well as performances by Morningwood, The Fire and Reason, RuPaul, Jeffery Self & Cole Escola. Additional performers, presenters, and special guests will be announced as they are confirmed. Starting Today, Monday, April 27 visitors to NewNowNextAwards.com can review the nominees and vote for their favorites. Additional categories will be hosted on third-party blogs and sites including AfterEllen.com, AfterElton.com, ArjanWrites.com, Dlisted.com and PinkIsTheNewBlog.com. Last year “NewNowNext Awards” brought you the electrifying and firstever TV performance by Lady Gaga – before she began climbing the music charts and becoming the music and pop culture sensation she is today. In the same tradition this year’s awards will draw attention to what is new and next in music, film, television, online and pop culture. The “NewNowNext Awards” offers the LGBT perspective on what’s hot and hip in popular culture by honoring emerging and established artists and celebrities with such awards as Most Guiltiest Pleasure, Best Show You’re Not Watching and Brink of Fame: Music Artist. Unlike other awards shows, the “NewNowNext Awards” will not look at the year that passed, but will instead focus on what is up-and-coming in popular culture in 2009 and beyond. The 90-minute telecast will continue to put a spotlight on openly gay artists as well as all performers beloved by the LGBT community. The groundbreaking “NewNowNext Awards,” is the first truly multiplatform awards show. Viewers will be able to experience different aspects of the event across a number of platforms, including on-air, online at the event’s principal website, on-demand and on mobile devices. The tentpole event will also air on its sister websites AfterElton.com, NewNowNext.com and DowneLink.com and stream an online-only post show. “NewNowNext Awards” 2009 builds on Logo’s acclaimed NewNowNext franchise, which includes a pop culture blog NewNowNext.com and two on-air music shows: “NewNowNext PopLab,” the home for party music in all its forms and “NewNowNext Music,” the ultimate music video destination of today’s hottest artists and emerging musicians popular with the LGBT audience. Logo’s inaugural show last year, hosted by Candis Cayne and Colman Domingo, honored Tina Fey, Janet Jackson, designer Christian Siriano (Project Runway,) Leona Lewis, Planet Unicorn and many more. The awards also featured performances and appearances by Lady Gaga, The Cliks, Dangerous Muse and musician Cyndi Lauper. Logo’s “NewNowNext Awards” is sponsored by Orbitz.com, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Bridgestone and Avis. “NewNowNext Awards” are Executive Produced by Christopher Willey and Dave Mace for Logo and Frank Garritano for Line By Line Productions. Emmy-Award winner Manny Rodriguez will direct. For more information, visit LOGOonline.com or NewNowNextAwards.com.
