The New York Post published a scathing story in their newspaper today asserting that Debbie Rowe, the presumed biological mother of Michael Jackson’s children, accepted a cash settlement of $4 million in lieu of seeking custody of her children (who are currently under the guardianship of the children’s grandmother Katherine Jackson). In response to the claim made by the NYP, CNN reports that Rowe accepted no such claim and is still intent on appearing at the children’s custody hearing in SoCal on July 20. Additionally, TMZ obtained a letter written by Rowe’s attorneys demanding that the NYP retract their original story. Here is the cover of today’s NYP highlighting their Rowe story and a portion of their report:

Michael Jackson’s baby mama Debbie Rowe has sold her kids again — this time squeezing about $4 million from her former mother-in-law in exchange for giving up her parental rights, a family source told The Post yesterday. “It’s one final payday,” the disgusted Jackson confidant said. The family isn’t happy about the mega-payout — which was set to be sealed in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon — but they consider it a necessary evil, the source said. “They felt it was like a ransom-type thing. [Rowe] jumped back into the picture because she wanted money,” the friend said.

In response, here is a copy of the letter that Rowe’s attorneys sent to the Post:

Debbie Rowe’s lawyer just fired off a letter to the New York Post demanding a retraction of its story that Rowe has accepted $4 million to walk away from Michael Jackson’s two eldest kids. The letter — written by Rowe’s lawyer Eric George — says “Among the several contenders for overzealous and inaccurate sensationalism, the New York Post has now seized top honors.” George says “Ms. Rowe has not accepted — and will not accept — any additional financial consideration beyond the spousal support she and Michael Jackson personally agreed to several years ago.” This is a very significant statement and we’ve confirmed it with another Jackson source.

It remains to be seen if the Post will retract their story but something tells me that they prolly won’t … just this afternoon, the NYP published a new story online that claims that Rowe sent emails that claim she does not want the children but also doesn’t want to be seen as the woman who doesn’t want her kids:

Michael Jackson’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe said “Hell no” when discussing the possibility of gaining custody of her two kids, according to a series of bombshell e-mails made public this afternoon. Rebecca White, a close friend of Jacko’s baby mama, revealed to the syndicated TV show “Extra” a series of emails and text messages written by Rowe to her regarding the custody of Jacko’s kids — Michael Jr. 12, and Paris, 11 — just days after the King of Pop’s death. “My lawyer is telling me I have to take some responsibility about the welfare of the children,” Rowe wrote in a July 5 email to White. “Do I want the kids? Hell no. Does it look good for me to ask for them? Absolutely. I don’t want to look like the woman who gave away her kids and just forgot about them.” The e-mails bolstered The Post’s exclusive story today revealing that Rowe had made a $4 million deal to dump the kids — a “secret deal” White said Rowe told her was in the works. “In one text message [Rowe] had just said, ‘Just wait until [July] the 14th. Everything will be done after the 14th.’ There’s definitely going to be a secret deal. There’s definitely going to be a settlement that’s going to come out of this,” said White. The Post reported that Rowe squeezed the money from her former mother-in-law, 79-year-old Katherine, as part of a mega-payout. In a bogus letter to The Post earlier today, Rowe’s lawyer Eric George had the audacity to claim there had been no secret deal reached. “Particularly insidious is your misrepresentation that Ms. Rowe has accepted money to give up custory rights,” George said in the letter. “That statement is unequivocally false” … In an earlier email dated July 2, Rowe said “These kids are not mine. They were never mine. They were always Michael’s. I was Michael’s best friend.”

HMMM … it looks like the back-and-forth fighting between the NYP and Debbie Rowe is only going to continue … and possibly get nastier. To be honest, I don’t know which side to believe … both are equally valid. I guess we’ll find out soon enough if Debbie Rowe really wants her children or if she will be happy to take a cash settlement and go on her merry way.

Lovebirds Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson upset a bunch of folks in Florida this weekend after the ladies abruptly pulled out of an in-person engagement at Passion nightclub inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL that was due to take place on Valentine’s Day night. According to Pink reader Nicole, who was among the folks disappointed by the cancellation, the whole thing was called off at the very last second due to a “fight” between the girls:

So my girls and I were ecstatic to go to Passion nightclub tonight at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan were hosting tonight. We heard she canceled so I called the club. The guy that answered said they got in a fight this morning and never made it on their flight out of New York. They just canceled last minute at 8PM. What a bummer!

Reports of a big fight are, apparently, true according to NY Post reporter Justin Rocket Silverman who was actually close enough to bear witness to the bust-up. In fact, the girls were so interested in who was around that they even let the paparazzi photograph the whole dramatic event. After the jump, check out photos of the epic L. Ron argument and read a first-hand (and very detailed) account of what went down on the very public streets of NYC …

“Samantha Judith Ronson, why are you doing this to me?” cried Lindsay Lohan as she chased her lover down East First Street in the wee hours of Valentine’s Day. I had arrived towards the end of Charlotte Ronson’s after party Friday night at the Eldridge, where the signature cocktail is made with real gold leaf and goes for $32 a glass. As I approached the velvet rope, a side door swung open and Samantha came rushing out, eyes cast downward, a scowl on her face. A moment later Lindsay emerged, clutching a pink purse. She took off after her DJ girlfriend, who at 31 is almost a decade older. Jogging along as fast as her high heels would allow, Lindsay kept up a steady stream of pleas and wails. I followed just a few steps behind, recording in my reporter’s notebook the dialogue of this scorned lover. At one point Samantha stopped in the middle of Houston Street and said something in a whisper. “What are you talking about?” shrieked Lindsay in response, “I’ve been with you all night!” Samantha seemed to notice me standing there and took off once again, Lindsay following and only stopping to light a cigarette, which she puffed on furiously as she yelled. I continued following behind, matching Lindsay’s stride, and watching as two paparazzi darted in and out of traffic to get their shots. Other than the photogs and myself, no one out on the 1 a.m. street seemed to notice a starlet in their midst. Lindsay stomped out her cigarette just before following her girlfriend into the Bowery Hotel, where they either made up or else continued the emotional meltdown in more private quarters. As I strolled away, I was struck by two things. First- how painful it must be to have a lover who is so much older, and probably more emotionally mature, toy with your heart and mind. Second- how identical Lindsay Lohan’s screams sounded to the drunken female cries I hear every night outside my East Village window.

Wow. But, we’ve all been there … I have to admit that David and I have had a few very public fights like this on the streets of NYC (no lie) in our tenure together — it’s a natural thing for couples to fight. The fact that L. Ron’s fights are so much more interesting to a larger group of people is the only difference. I’m sure the ladies will be just fine … I’m sure they spent some time making up afterward. I do feel bad for Nicole and other folks who planned on partying with L. Ron at that Florida club. At least the ladies will make it up with a rescheduled appearance later on next month. Who knows, mebbe when next L. Ron gets into a public dust-up, they’ll do so in Hollywood, FL so that the folks there can bear witness next time?

The New York Post has a semi-regular feature that showcases prominent New Yorkers photographed at their desks and explains the work that they do, in the environment where they do it. This week, the NYP features two people who I am very fond of … Tim Gunn from Project Runway and David Hauslaib, my boo:

On the face of it, a desk doesn’t amount to much. It’s a flat slab of wood or glass on legs, with maybe a few drawers attached. But given the number of hours many of us spend at them, they take on styles as idiosyncratic and varied as our dwellings, reflecting not only someone’s aesthetic sensibility, but also their working habits and the rituals that shape their day. With that in mind, we asked five notable city folks for what you might call a desktop tour:

Tim Gunn — Gunn’s known worldwide as the tough-love mentor to aspiring designers on “Project Runway,” but in 2007 he also assumed the role of chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne Inc. As debonair in person as on TV, Gunn wore a pinstriped suit and a bright smile when we visited his Midtown office.

Desk: Sea-foam green glass suspended by metal, rounded on one side, straight on the other. On the desktop is a book on Tom Ford, a Liz Claiborne collection catalog, “1001 Buildings You Must See Before You Die” and a fastidiously stacked paper pile.

“I don’t usually sit behind the desk when people are here. It creates a barrier. When someone sits in the traditional spot I think, ‘What are they doing back there?’”

Décor: Built-ins bulge with books on one side, an Asian screen and a stone-colored couch sit on the other, and a wall of windows provides an expansive view. A floor-to-ceiling portrait of Gunn wearing a stern expression dominates the space behind the door. “This is meant to be a minimalist environment, but I’m not a minimalist,” he says.

Detritus: A press pass for the Oscars, framed shots of Gunn with Heidi Klum and Oprah, a PETA award and multiple Tim Gunn bobbleheads, one of which delivers his signature lines “Make it work” and “Carry on.”

Pet: A fake goldfish encased in a plastic orb sits on a side table.

Current project: “I split my time between running to meetings, making showroom visits and writing. Right now I’m retooling the budget.”

Philosophy: Claiborne execs have suggested Gunn hold meetings in a “neutral” place, but he refuses, citing an aversion to conference rooms. “I believe in the semiology of clothes. Similarly, the way we live and work should send a message.”

Routine: In by 8 or 8:30, Gunn gets a doughnut and coffee and from the deli downstairs. He transfers the java into his “Ellen” (DeGeneres) mug, then eats at his desk. The doughnuts: “Whole-wheat – not glazed. My theory on glazed doughnuts is one is too many, a dozen is not enough.”

What’s next: Gunn’s a nomad. “I’m in my third office here.” He’s preparing for another office move and a new assignment in corporate design and merchandizing.

David Hauslaib — Hauslaib started Jossip, a celebrity and media gossip blog, in 2003 from his dorm room at Syracuse University. Today, through Jossip and its younger sibling, the gay lifestyle blog Queerty, the 25-year-old reaches 3 million readers a month. Though he maintains a staff and an office, Hauslaib works predominantly from his alcove studio in a prewar doorman building on Christopher Street.

Desk: A small, basic Pottery Barn piece with contrasting light and dark mahogany, tucked into an office nook that abuts the kitchen.

Décor: “It’s a smorgasbord.”

Detritus: A Starbucks coffee mug (”I collect them from around the world”), Gumby and Pokey figurines, miniature baby pictures of David and his brother, and his Sony Vaio. “I like to keep whimsical things around,” he says, picking up an Etch A Sketch. “When I struggle to find the right words, I play around on it a while.”

Current project: Keeping his blogs constantly updated and staying ahead of the buzz.

Routine: “I have a full staff. We all work from home in the mornings. Some days we go into the office at 1 or 2, but this is where the magic happens.” Hauslaib starts work around 7 a.m. and usually eats at his desk. A Tassimo coffee maker feeds his 4-to-5-cups-a-day habit.

Pet: A teddy bear perched on a nearby table.

What’s next: Applying more of a magazine model to the blogs. “Our editorial calendar used to be 24 hours long, but we’re planning packages ahead of time now.”

Yay! What a great piece and doesn’t David look hawt in his photo (Tim’s not bad either). Regarding David’s piece … I have to admit that I’ve never seen him EVER play with that Etch-A-Sketch (which came from his Xmas stocking) but the bit about the “4-to-5-cups-a-day habit” … yeah, that’s totally right on. On a really exciting day, it’s more like 7-to-8 cups a day. The window behind him looks out onto the corner of 6th Ave. and Greenwich Ave. and, I have to share, a framed photo of the two of us (the first photo we ever took together, on the day we met in Amsterdam in 2006) is on the table next to his desk … not that I’m AT ALL bothered that fact didn’t make the piece ;) In any event, I totally love this little NYP piece on David and Tim. She complains to the newspaper that papa Jamie Spears has barred her from getting close to our dear Britney and goes on to say that she “misses her everyday”. HMMM … mebbe if Sims had been a better cousin and not so much of a user she might not have been exiled from the Spears clan but that’s just my humble observation:

Britney Spears just swept through town with a familiar face missing from her side. Spears’ cousin and former assistant, Alli Sims, told Page Six she’s still not allowed to be in contact with the pop tart. “I have no idea when I’ll see her again. I miss her every day,” Sims said. Spears has been in the city at meetings for her fragrance line and plugging her new single, “Womanizer.” Although she looks cleaned up, the rules imposed by her father, Jamie Spears, still stand. “When [Britney's] dad gained control, he put some rules down . . . it’s just best for her to not communicate with a lot of people. My main concern is her being OK,” said Sims, who’s in Nashville writing and recording music.

I am utterly convinced that Alli Sims was at the very least aware of the dangerous behavior that almost destroyed Britney Spears (again, in my opinion, behavior that was orchestrated by Sam Lutfi and others) and she sat idly by, doing everything she could to enjoy Britney’s coattails while the girl was imploding. I fully support Jamie Spears’s command that Alli be kept out of Britney’s life. Sims should just try and make her music career happen and fade into obscurity. Britney’s life has been 100% more positive since Sims and Lutfi were expunged from her life … and really, what more can be said. Go away, Alli Sims … Britney is much, much better off without you.

Woot! The 4th season of The Hills debuts tonight on MTV at 10pm and there promises to be a whole lotta drama to come … but first up, Heidi Montag has a little something she wants you to hear first:

To coincide with tonight’s season 4 premiere of The Hills, Heidi Montag has released a new single. “Overdosin’” is about “when you fall in love with someone… and [you're] just overdosing off of their love,” she said on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM morning show. The song’s chorus is a repetition of “I can’t get enough of you.”

Heidi and Spencer Pratt tell Extra TV that they are deffo planning to be married on TV and that they have no intention of leaving The Hills before the show ends its run:

Reality TV’s most talked about couple, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, breaks the big news to “Extra” that they’re planning to get married on live on TV! Montag tells “Extra,” “I’m just waiting for that big ring.” Montag also reveals there could be baby Speidis in the future, saying “I want kids … eventually.” This weekend, The Hills co-star, Audrina Patridge, opened up about her frosty relationship with Montag, saying, “You know, I don’t have a problem with her … That’s between her and Lauren [Conrad].” On set, “Extra” played Patridge’s comments for Montag, who revealed she has no ill feelings toward Patridge, saying, “We hang out. We’re friends … I love Audrina.” As for any rumors that Heidi is leaving The Hills, she responds, “No, where would I go?”

Lauren LC Conrad, the show’s star, on the other hand tells the New York Post that The Hills is “definitely reaching its end”, telling the newspaper:

The show is definitely reaching its end. It’s been so amazing and I’ve loved most of it, but I think there is going to come a time where I need to live my life for myself and not in front of viewers. I’m young and having fun with it now, but it’s not something I am going to be able to do forever, obviously.

Click HERE to read the rest of LC’s fairly long interview with the NYP.

OH … yeah … After the jump, hear Heidi Montag’s new single Overdosin’ in full …

So … I know we are ALL excited for the season premiere of The Hills tonight but as for Heidi’s new song … do we like? I expect to read a lot of y’all’s comments :)

Project Runway season 4 winner Christian Siriano (who, incidentally, just this week debuted his first clothing collection on Bluefly.com) has a few choice things to say about Project Runway season 5 contestant Blayne Walsh’s overuse of the word “girlicious” … essentially, he hates it. Which, I must confess, is pretty funny considering that Christian couldn’t go 3 mins. on his season of the show without saying the world “fierce”:

Christian Siriano, the man who perfected the reality show catch phrase, weighs in on one of “Project Runway’s” most controversial contestants this season, Blayne, and his overuse of the word “Girlicious.” Needless to say, he’s not a fan. But it’s not all bad news – although he doesn’t have such kind things to say about last night’s winning dress either – as Christian gushes about his new BlueFly.com collection, his designs for 2008 Fashion Week and of course, the biggest fashion muse of all, Victoria Beckham.

In a video interview with the New York Post, Christian calls Blayne’s new attempt at a catchphrase “retarded” and “stupid” claiming that “it doesn’t really work” says that “it’s very forced” and that “it bothers” him. Um, what? Don’t get me wrong, I totally agree … the liciousness is annoyingly lame … but for Christian Siriano — the guy who used the word “fierce” so much that even he had to agree that it became “expired” — to dog on Blayne is too funny. If anything, Blayne is just trying to emulate Christian by mimicking him … it’s funny that Christian now finally sees how annoying this behavior is ;) After the jump, watch the entire New York Post video interview with Christian Siriano …

Christian goes on, in his NYP interview, to say that he didn’t really like Suede’s winning dress from this week’s ep, calling it “really not cute”. But really, is this any surprise? Christian pretty much hated everyone’s designs on his own season so I’m not surprised that he’s not a fan of the new crop of designers. But you know what, he does have the talent and the skill to back up his judgments. Ahh … it’s nice to know that Christian is still a little spitfire. I expect he’ll have much to say as this new season of PR carries on … especially with new clothing designs to promote.
