Britney! Britney! Britney!
The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards

Okay, even tho I already devoted an entire post to Britney Spears‘s triumphant night at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, any mention of the show by ALL of the press (including THIS report from Time magazine) seems to devote a good portion of their reporting to Miss Britney Spears. But, there were other people and other things going on at the VMAs yesterday … here are a few pics of some of the folks who walked the red carpet yesterday (it should be noted that Britney did not walk the red carpet, choosing instead to keep her revelation of the night strictly for the show itself):

For the most part, I found the red carpet pretty tame … I mean, there really weren’t that many “hot messes” to speak of. Of course you had your usual poor fashion choices (that red and black dress did not really work on P!nk for me, nor did I like Rihanna‘s outfit choice … Xtina looked hawt!) but that’s to be expected. Personally, I had a hard time focusing while on the red carpet … we were lined up in the blazing SoCal sun hours before the first celeb walked the carpet … it wasn’t that pleasant. I did get to snap some fun pics and meet a few very COOL folks … but I’ll post those pics a bit later on.

As for the show itself, I have not yet been able to watch it in its entirety, properly but I did manage to catch most of it on the huge screens that were plastered all over the VIP green room last night. After the jump, check out some pics from the show itself and take one more look at Xtina Aguilera‘s amazing performance …

Best Female Video, Best Pop Video & Video of the Year!!!
Britney Spears Wins BIG At The 2008 MTV VMAs

OMG OMG OMG OMG … seriously, that was pretty much all I could muster last night as Britney Spears won her first ever award, Best Female Video, at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards last night. I was so fortunate to be on hand to actually watch our dear Britney not only win her first MTV VMA but two more VMAs thruout the night. After her Best Female win, she went on to win Best Pop Video and the biggest award of the night Video of the Year. I will do a proper VMAs recap post but this one is all about my girl, Britney Spears.

To get the night started off right, Brit Brit took to the stage in a beautiful sparkly silver dress and with her shy and coy manner wished the VMAs a Happy 25th Birthday and officially kicked off the night’s festivities … then she she just sat back with her steadfast manager Larry Rudolph at her side and collected awards at regular intervals thruout the night — which were all absolutely well-deserved:

It was Britney’s night! The pop star made a triumphant return to MTV’s Video Music Awards, winning three Moonmen, including the night’s big honor, video of the year, for her hit “Piece of Me.” “I’m in shock,” the grateful singer said after accepting her third award of the night from NBA star Kobe Bryant. Spears, of course, was the subject of much speculation and excitement after word spread that she would be opening the ceremony. She looked a little nervous at first, but proved to be in fighting form in a vintage silver Versace minidress. After being escorted from her dressing room, Spears took center stage, clutched the microphone tightly and announced, “I’m here tonight to celebrate a very important birthday.” Continued Spears: “This is the 25th Video Music Awards – and it starts right now.” … Moments later, Spears was back to accept her first VMA ever. Nominated for 16 Moonmen in the past, the pop star nabbed the first award of the night, best female video, for her song “Piece of Me.” Spears gave a brief speech, thanking God for “just blessing me like this,” calling out her two sons and dedicating the award to her fans. “This is for you,” she said … Spears later picked up her second award for best pop video, also for “Piece of Me.” “I’m speechless,” she chiped as she offered thanks to manager Larry Rudolph, who accompanied her to the show, and her fans.

And then, of course, she took home the last and biggest award of the night, Video of the Year. It really was Britney‘s night. Absolutely everyone was talking about her from beginning to end. I just find it so remarkable how much everybody loves her … even the haters can’t stop talking about her. She was absolutely triumphant last night and it was a beautiful sight to behold. After the jump, check out pics of Britney with her 3 awards, pics of her in the press room, pics of her in the audience with Larry Rudolph and a Beyotch Stole My Look! that was too obvs to let pass by …

No performance but an "opening not to be missed"
Britney Spears Will Open The 2008 MTV VMAs

Woot! Woot! Even tho Britney Spears‘s manager, Larry Rudolph, broke our hearts with the news that Britney Spears will not be performing at the 2008 MTV VMAs (despite reports to the contrary by the insidious hair stylist Kim Vo), MTV announced this afternoon that Britney WILL BE OPENING the VMAs this Sunday:

Britney’s back — for REALS — and honestly, we’re probably as amazed and eagerly anxious as you are. Except for those of you hardcore Britney fans who aren’t shocked at all; both Britney’s personal life and career have been on an upswing, and her just-announced appearance at this Sunday’s VMAs may be just the beginning of her total transformation after a chaotic, drama-filled year.

Brilliant. I’d've preferred that she perform but this is the perfect next best thing. I’m sure MTV has cooked up an ingenious way for Britney to get the party started … I can’t wait to see what they’ve got planned for us this Sunday night, Live! Amazing, amazing news … I just *know* it’s gonna be a moment NOT TO BE MISSED … just wait and see. What do y’all think about this great news?

Is someone a bit too desperate for attention?
Kim Vo Lies, In Theory

Yesterday we learned the sad news straight from Britney Spears‘s manager Larry Rudolph that Britney will NOT be performing at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards this yearLarry was denying a report that came from E! News last week that quoted celebrity hairstylist Kim Vo who claimed that he was designing a hairstyle for Britney to wear for her MTV VMAs performance. He was clear to insist that she would be performing and seemed eager to take credit for “breaking the news” which E! News was happy to run with. In light of Larry‘s denial, E! News went back and asked Kim Vo for comment, which he did:

Last week, we told you all about a special hairstyle Britney’s mane man Kim Vo was preparing for an epic VMA comeback performance. Unfortunately, it turns out he was only speaking theoretically. Brit’s manager Larry Rudolph released this official statement today: “Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year’s VMAs. She’s in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio.” Of course, we went back to check with Vo if this was accurate and not some cover for a surprise performance, but he confirmed: “Any ideas that we have about her hair are always theoretical. And we always have to be prepared. But she is not performing and so we don’t have to worry about that.”

What a loser. Clearly, he was spouting off information that was blatantly untrue in the hopes of getting some press … which is totally lame, especially since his lie was totally shot down almost immediately after he opened his mouth. I guess the lesson here is that we should never believe or even listen to Kim Vo whenever he tries to “spill the beans” about his hairstylist secrets. I think he just ruined Shear Genius for me :(

So says Larry Rudolph
Britney Spears Will NOT Perform At The 2008 MTV VMAs

Boo. Very sad Britney Spears news coming out of LA this AM. Ryan Seacrest has just announced live on his morning radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM in SoCal that Britney Spears WILL NOT be performing at this year’s 2008 MTV Video Music Awards:

Britney Spears Will Not Perform at MTV VMAs

After a week of a rumored return to the VMA stage, Ryan Seacrest exclusively revealed on his radio show Monday morning that she will not be performing at the awards show. Recently, promotional spots leaked online featuring Spears and show host Russell Brand further fueling the rumors of an on-stage performance. In the spots, Spears and Brand were alone in a large studio only accompanied by a 9,000 lb. elephant.

Ryan essentially reports that he spoke with Britney‘s “general in charge of all things BritneyLarry Rudolph (via email) about a report that came from E! News that claimed that Britney would be performing at this years’ VMAs. Ryan says that Larry told him that the report is “just wrong”, saying:

“Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year … I’m telling you officially and unequivocally that BS will not be there.”

Again, I say Boo! I am assuming that Larry Rudolph is referring to the E! report that quoted celebrity hairstylist Kim Vo who claimed he was designing hairstyles for Britney‘s VMAs night — one for red carpet, one for the show and one for her PERFORMANCE. Sadly, I’d believe Larry Rudolph over pretty much anyone else … so unless this is a major cover-up to try and pull off a surprise, I guess Britters really won’t be performing this year. I gotta say, I think it’s a mistake for her not to. She is in a much better position to perform this year and, as I’ve said before, she can really undo the damage she did at last year’s VMAs with one amazing performance. I think it’s a bad idea for her not to perform. The end.

So spills her hairstylist, Kim Vo
Britney Spears TO PERFORM At The 2008 MTV VMAs

Woot! It’s really beginning to sound like my suspicions that Britney Spears will, in fact, be performing at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards next month are correct. E! News is reporting that celebrity hairstylist (and judge on Bravo‘s Shear Genius) Kim Vo has spilled the news that he is designing 3 different hairstyles for Britters for VMAs night — one for red carpet, one for the show and one for her live performance:

[C]hatty hairdresser … Kim Vo … told E! News exclusively that he just may be creating three VMA looks for the “E-mail My Heart” singer. What could Britney possibly need three different hairstyles for? … The first look would obviously be for the red carpet. Vo says he and Brit are still “feeling out” ideas about how that will look. The second style would be for the show itself, probably something “more chic, like a side ponytail.” And look No. 3 would be for her PERFORMANCE! That’s right, we said performance. For such an event, Vo and Brit want something “more quintessential Britney.” “Performance” and “quintessential Britney” said together could only mean our girl is definitely coming back to us.

See, the only thing that gives me pause right now is the bit about the “side ponytail”. Vo saying something like that makes me think that he may be kidding … but that still doesn’t mean that she won’t be performing, my gut still tells me that she will.

And since we’re on the Britney Spears tip, here are a couple of supercute pics of Britney enjoying a lovely afternoon (this past Tuesday) with her son Jayden James (presumably Sean Preston was there, too) and a little friend of his … who just so happens to be Kingston James Stefani-Rossdale:

How cute are these pics … and I love that Gwen is cool with letting Britney watch her baby boy. Mebbe once Gwen finally births her baby, Britney will be asked to do some more babysitting in the future?

Also this week, Brit Brit was seen making her way out of Conway Studios here in LA lookin’ as smiley as can be …

… it’s unclear if she was working on her new album or if she was, perhaps, rehearsing for her rumored VMAs performance. In any event, she looks great and life seems to be going really well for our dear Britney right now. I hope the best is yet to come … we shall soon see.

Remains calm & cute next to freaky Russell Brand

MTV has released 2 promo videos for the upcoming 2008 MTV Video Music Awards starring VMAs host Russell Brand and our dear Britney Spears (lookin’ quite faboo, I must say). Earlier, we saw the first promo photo of Britney with Russell and a 900 lb. elephant (in the room) and now we can take a gander at the videos that were shot at the same time. First up, here is the promo video titled Name:

After the jump, check out the second promo video featuring Britney and the kinda scary Russell Brand

The elephant in the room
Britney Spears + MTV VMAs = Take Two

MTV may be keeping mum on whether or not Britney Spears will take to the stage and perform at next month’s 2008 MTV Video Music Awards but they are happily letting the world know that Brit Brit is appearing in the new promo campaign for the awards show. Here is our first look at a new promo pic for this year’s VMAs which features Britney Spears, VMAs host Russell Brand and a 900 lb. elephant in the room:

She’s (almost) back! A year after her embarrassing performance at the Video Music Awards , Britney Spears returned to the MTV stage this week to tape a promotional video for this year’s ceremony. “Britney looked really good,” says a source. “It was improvisational questions and answers with [host] Russell Brand just like [other promo guest stars] LL Cool J and Pete Wentz did. Russell joked about there being sexual tension, and Britney shot back, ‘I don’t feel the tension’. The other joke was about no one knowing who Russell was so she called him by the wrong name. LL called him Russell Bland and Britney called him Russell Brown.” The shoot also included a 9,000 pound elephant. Says the source, “The joke of the whole thing is ‘there is an elephant in the room’.” While the network cannot confirm whether Spears will appear on the show airing on Sept. 7, Spears’s promo appearance is a promising sign. The singer, who has been nominated 17 times, has yet to walk away with a win and is nominated for two this year. She is up for best female video and best pop video.

OMG! She is SOOOO gonna be there. And she is SOOOO gonna kick ass this year, I just know it. I had the misfortune to bear witness to Britney‘s disastrous performance inside the Pearl Theater at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV for the VMAs last year and remember how disappointed everyone (including me) was … but this year, I just know it, she’s gonna undo all of that negativity. I can feel it in me bones, she is gonna have a huge comeback this time … I know it, I know it, I know it. Just wait and see …

So far, Britney is up for 'Best Female Video'
The First Batch Of 2008 MTV VMA Noms Have Been Announced

MTV opened up a portion of the nomination process for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards to the public this year and last night announced the first round of nominees for this year’s awards show. Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Chris Brown are among the folks nominated by the fans … here’s the report from MTVNews:

We asked for your help, and you did not disappoint. You voted in record numbers, whittling the list of Moonman hopefuls for Best Male Video and Best Female Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards down to the final five, as the nominees were revealed Friday (July 25). After thousands of votes on VMA.MTV.com (along with ballots from select industry insiders), two diverse battles are set. A pair of legendary pop icons will square off against two relative newcomers and one wily underdog in the fight for Best Female Video. Pop queen Britney Spears takes another step on the comeback trail as her “Piece of Me” grabs a nomination, while Mariah Carey will try to end her VMA dry spell with “Touch My Body.” “American Idol” champ Jordin Sparks scores a nomination for her Chris Brown collaboration “No Air,” and Rihanna is in the running as well with “Take a Bow.” Quirky long shot Katy Perry rounds out the Best Female race with her cheeky summer anthem “I Kissed a Girl.” Meanwhile, hip-hop’s hot streak continues in the Best Male Video category as two of the hottest MCs in the game face off against some of R&B’s leading men. Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” exploded this year, so it’s no surprise that he’s in the running, along with T.I., whose “No Matter What” chronicles his struggles over the past year. Chris Brown and Usher made the list with “With You” and “Love in This Club” respectively, and Flo Rida is in the mix with “Low.” Of course, when one door closes, another opens, my friends — voting in two other categories is now officially open at VMA.MTV.com. Hundreds of hopefuls will now duke it out in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Pop Video categories! The nominees will be announced on next Friday’s installment of “FNMTV.” After that, two more rounds of voting remain to determine the nominees for Best Dancing in a Video, Best New Artist, Best Rock Video and the highly coveted Video of the Year. The 25th VMAs will take place at the legendary Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood on September 7. The Jonas Brothers are confirmed to perform, and British funnyman and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” co-star Russell Brand was just announced as the show’s host.

Woot! This is great news for Britney Spears. She has a very good chance of racking up more nominations as the voting process continues. Slow and steady, this is the way she will properly pull off her comeback. I actually like this new brand of interactivity that allows the MTV viewers to chime in and have their say in the nomination process. In addition to Brit Brit, there are already a few artists that I
