David Beckham & The LA Galaxy Make Their Way To Australia

David Beckham and the rest of the LA Galaxy soccer team have made their way to Sydney, Australia to play a friendly match against the Newcastle Jets this coming weekend. Before the soccer studs take to the field this weekend, they made a beeline to the beach so that they could soak up some rays. Here are a few photos of Becks and the boys in OZ along with some deets about their visit:

Football superstar David Beckham flew into Australia Thursday for an exhibition game with his team LA Galaxy, but minus his popstar wife Victoria who opted to stay at home. The former England captain said he was “honoured” to be in Australia for this weekend’s game against former A-League champions Newcastle Jets at their 26,000-capacity stadium north of Sydney. “We’re honoured to be here, this is something the players have talked about and are excited about,” said Beckham, 35. “We’re here to enjoy ourselves but also here to perform as well and hopefully win.” Beckham said Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria, who was widely reported to be accompanying her husband, was in the United States celebrating Thanksgiving with their three children, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. “My wife and kids would obviously love to have been here but they’re celebrating Thanksgiving and Victoria’s just come back from a long trip working in Europe,” he said. “Unfortunately she wanted to come out but it wasn’t possible, but I’m sure she will at some point.”

Something tells me Becks isn’t too bummed to be spending this weekend in Australia, especially considering how hot is there these days. Becks took part in a press conference in Sydney upon his arrival (while many of his teammates hit the beach). After the jump, check out a few photos of Becks lookin’ all kinds of adorable at his Aussie press conference earlier today …

David Beckham Plays With His Family, Then With The LA Galaxy

David Beckham and his wife Victoria Beckham have finally been reunited now that Vicki B. is back in SoCal from her extended stay in NYC for New York Fashion Week. First thing on the Les Beckhams agenda was to spend a lovely but casual afternoon with the kids:

About this afternoon, Vicki B. tweeted: Vintage jeans,T shirt,#victoria beckham glasses. On the way to soccer. So nice to leave the heels at home!So good to be back in LA!!!

After playtime with the kiddies, Becks got himself suited up for playtime with the LA Galaxy — check out those photos, after the jump …

David Beckham Returns To Gameplay For The LA Galaxy

It’s been a very long time since David Beckham suited up to play with his primary professional soccer team the LA Galaxy but this weekend, after about 6 months off the playing field (he most recently played professionally with his European soccer team AC Milan earlier this year) Becks was back in action. Because it was such a joyous event, Becks made himself available to the media last week to talk about his long-awaited return to the Galaxy:

But — yes, while Becks looked all cute and stuff in all his scruffy glory — the time for talk was over and the time for action was finally upon us. Becks played for about 20 minutes of the game this weekend against Columbus and helped the Galaxy secure a 3-1 win:

David Beckham, sidelined six months by injury, made his Major League Soccer season debut for the Los Angeles Galaxy, playing 20 minutes in a 3-1 victory over Columbus. Beckham came in for Juninho in the 70th minute and received loud cheers, his entry bringing some fans at the Galaxy’s Home Depot Center ground to their feet. The 35-year-old former England captain had been sidelined since March 14, when he tore his left achilles tendon while playing on loan for AC Milan. The injury kept Beckham, England’s most-capped outfield player, from playing in his fourth World Cup as he missed the 2010 finals in South Africa. “Being out there felt good,” Beckham said. “I’ve never been out of the game for such a long time.” Doctors had originally estimated Beckham would be ready to return in October, and he was pleased to get back to action sooner. “It has been a quick recovery and I’m happy with that. I thought I was ready for 90 minutes four months ago,” Beckham said. Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said he was impressed with Beckham’s determined rehabilitation. “It’s kind of remarkable that he’s back on the field in such a short period of time,” Arena said. “To put the kind of effort in to come back at his age is inspiring for our players to see. By the end of the season, we want him playing 90 minutes.” Four minutes after he came into the match, Beckham received a yellow card for a reckless foul against Emmanuel Ekpo. But Beckham admitted he was feeling his lack of matches. “After 10 minutes on the field, I thought like I was dying, Beckham said. “But I came through it, felt good after that and finished strong.” Edson Buddle, Dema Kovalenko and Jovan Kirovski scored for the Galaxy, who regained the lead in the MLS Western Conference, three points ahead of Real Salt Lake.

It is totally to be expected for Becks to be a bit stiff, a bit cold after so many months away from the game that he loves so much … but it’s a great sign that he was able to play for the last 20 minutes of the game. Considering that he wasn’t even supposed to make his return to the fields of glory until next month, this is a great sign indeed.

In other Becks news, he spent his time off the soccer field in the company of his 3 young sons who are here in LA with him while wife/mom Victoria Beckham is doing her thang at New York Fashion Week. After the jump, check out a couple photos of Becks doing a bit of smart bicycle shopping here in SoCal this weekend …

Madrid tops LA 3-2
LA Galaxy Takes On Real Madrid At The Rose Bowl

A couple of weeks ago we learned that soccer stud and new dad Cristiano Ronaldo had made his way to SoCal with his Real Madrid teammates to do a bit of training ahead of the coming European soccer season. And while Cristinao took some time off in between training sessions to do a bit of partying, he stayed relatively on track with the task at hand. Last night, Real Madrid faced the home team LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl for a friendly match … and managed to pull out a last minute win. Here are some photos of Cristiano in action during last night’s game and some deets from the match:

Real Madrid pulled off a late rally to complete an undefeated trip through California. Xabi Alonso scored in the 72nd minute and Real Madrid beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 victory in an exhibition match Saturday night in front of 89,134 at the Rose Bowl. Gonzalo Higuain added two goals for Real Madrid. “For this trip, everything was perfect,” Real coach Jose Mourinho said. “We trained well. We trained hard. The players were together for 24 hours in a perfect environment for them to grow up as a group.” Mourinho said he was most pleased with his players’ resilience, especially in the second halves of both games. “Obviously, I like this mentality of not wanting to lose, of wanting to overcome, a lot,” Mourinho said. “For me the second half was fantastic in every aspect.” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said that Mourinho—who guided Inter Milan to the Champions’ League, Italian league and Italian cup titles last season—will make Real formidable. “They’re one of the best club teams in the world,” Arena said. “They’re going to going to challenge in Champions’ League and certainly give Barcelona a run for their money in La Liga.” Todd Dunivant and Landon Donovan scored for the Galaxy, who are winless in six of seven games. “All in all, I think our team was able to play with a top-notch team like Real Madrid and see what this level can be like,” Galaxy forward Clint Mathis said. “It was good for our team in a critical portion of our season.”

In case you were wondering, David Beckham (who just returned home to SoCal after spending most of the year away) did NOT play in last night’s match … he isn’t due to officially return to the LA Galaxy until tomorrow. But, Becks was in the hiz last night. After the jump, check out photos of David Beckham at last night’s soccer match along with a couple of shirtless Cristiano pics …

Soundly defeat the Seattle Sounders
Landon Donovan Leads The LA Galaxy To A Big Soccer Win

On Friday we saw photos of LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan doing a bit of warming up at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA as he prepped for his first Galaxy soccer game since returning home to the US from the World Cup in South Africa. The Galaxy took on the Seattle Sounders in Carson last night in a battle for 4th of July supremacy and managed to soundly defeat the Sounders by a score of 3 – 1. Here are a few photos of Landon Donovan doing his thing on the soccer field last night and some deets about the game:

Los Angeles Galaxy moved nine points clear at the top of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference on Sunday night courtesy of a 3-1 home win over Seattle Sounders. Edson Buddle opened the scoring for the Galaxy after 18 minutes and Juninho doubled their advantage three minutes after the interval. Steve Zakuani halved the deficit for the visitors midway through the second period but a James Riley own goal 13 minutes from time restored the two-goal cushion. Buddle and Landon Donovan were playing for the first time since returning from World Cup duty. The result marked Los Angeles’ 11th win in 15 games and left the Sounders second from bottom in the Western Conference.

You know, I bet Landon is really happy that David Beckham — his LA Galaxy teammate — is off enjoying some vacation time with his family in Europe these days because with Becks out of the picture, he is the big soccer cheese here in LA. Actually, I’d go so far as to say that Landon Donovan is currently the most famous soccer player in the whole US. I’m glad his performance at the World Cup has elevated his status a bit, hopefully he can use the momentum to keep bringing wins for the LA Galaxy. Landon has languished in Becks‘s shadow for a long time … hopefully this will be his time to shine.

Injured David Beckham Gets Back On The Soccer Field

On Tuesday we learned that David Beckham and his father Ted made their way to SoCal from the UK after Becks spent a few days in the motherland to recuperate after undergoing successful Achilles tendon surgery in Finland the week prior. Today we learn that Becks made it home to LA safe and sound … and made a beeline back to the soccer field to try and remain a part of the game. Well, as much as he can while hobbling around on crutches:

11 days after blowing out his Achilles’ tendon, David Beckham returned to the soccer field Wednesday to get a little workout with his Major League Soccer team — there was just one minor problem … he still can’t walk. With crutches on both arms, Beckham limped around to observe the L.A. Galaxy run through drills in Carson, California. Beckham underwent surgery to repair the tendon the day after he tore it — but he’ll still miss his chance to play in the upcoming World Cup tournament.

I have to give it up to Becks for getting back in action (as it were) so soon after undergoing surgery, especially since the poor guy can’t even walk on his own two feet. Some may dismiss this as publicity but I honestly believe that Becks wants to live as much of his life on the soccer field and he won’t let a thing like a reliance on crutches keep him off the field. I doubt any training that he gets done while hobbling around on crutches will be very fruitful … but I do believe that the practice will help him psychologically. Becks has a long recovery period ahead of him … if he keeps his head “in the game” during his rehabilitation period, it’ll make his eventual return to the game as seamless as possible — at least, that’s the hope. Stay strong, Becks! Do your thang!

David Beckham plays last Galaxy game of the season, cries
The LA Galaxy Loses The MLS Championship To Real Salt Lake

Sad news for LA Galaxy fans today … the boys in blue, gold and white ended up losing the Major League Soccer Championship due to a heartbreaking penalty shot by Real Salt Lake, the MLS Eastern Conference champs. Here are a few pics of David Beckham during the championship match last night (which very well could be his last Galaxy game ever) and some deets about the game itself:

Real Salt Lake sealed an upset win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday night with a 5-4 penalty victory, after extra-time in the Major League Soccer Cup final that ended with the score at 1-1. Robbie Russell netted the vital spot kick after Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando made two saves and MLS Most Valuable Player, and LA Galaxy captain, Langdon Donovan sent his shot sailing over the crossbar. Salt Lake’s win at the Qwest Field arena in Seattle, ended David Beckham’s bid to claim a third national title in as many different nations, having previously won the English Premier League with Manchester United and La Liga with Spain’s Real Madrid. The Galaxy struck first, with midfielder Mike Magee drilling a 41st-minute shot into an open net. His strike came after Beckham passed to Donovan, who set-up Magee at the far post. Seattle: America’s soccer city. Real Salt Lake hit back with 25 minutes left when Robbie Findley reacted first after Yuri Movsisyan’s attempt on goal was blocked, tying the match and setting up the penalty shootout. Beckham got the Galaxy off to a good start in the shoot out as he scored with confidence, but his team could not follow in the same manner. Jovan Kirovski’s shot was blocked by Rimando, but Saunders followed by stopping the effort of Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman before Donovan blazed over the crossbar to leave the score 5-4. Galaxy came into the game as favorites, but flattered to deceive as it was revealed Beckham had played with an injured right ankle. “We all want to win titles and personally I’d love to be successful but I think we have been successful this year without winning tonight,” Beckham told reporters after the game. “We have quietened a few people along the way which is always nice but we couldn’t finish it off. “I wouldn’t say it’s tougher to lose on penalties but it’s Russian roulette, that’s just the way it is. It’s not a nice way to lose. The people that step up are brave enough to step up and if you score, great and if you miss it’s hard to take, but it just wasn’t our night,” Beckham added. Beckham is due to return to AC Milan in January for another loan spell as he bids to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad for next year’s finals in South Africa.

As you can see, Becks wore his sons names on his soccer boots but, unfortch, it wasn’t enough to bring him and the Galaxy good luck last night. As much as I may question Becks‘s loyalty to the LA Galaxy, it does seem as if he was really emotionally invested in last night’s game. Becks actually teared up and cried after the loss … and even more upsetting, he was apparently too sad to strip off his jersey to leave the game shirtless. Sad. After the jump, check out a couple pics of sad Becks last night …

Galaxy win title after defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0
David Beckham Helps The LA Galaxy Win The MLS Western Conference Championship

Congratulations are in order for the Los Angeles Galaxy who won the MLS Western Conference Championship title for the first time since 2002 after they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes by a score of 2-0 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA last night. I’m not sure how much help David Beckham was in the win but he looked good on the field so, that should count for something, right?

The Los Angeles Galaxy continued their improbable rise from the depths of MLS with Saturday’s 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes that clinched their first Western Conference regular season title since 2002. The Galaxy, playing in front of a sold-out crowd of 27,000 at The Home Depot Center, were the recipient of some good fortune in the win, their first against their bitter northern California rivals this season in three tries in the “California Clasico.” The victory gave the Galaxy (12-6-12) 48 points and first place in the West, no matter the outcome of Sunday’s regular-season finale between Chivas USA and the Houston Dynamo. The Galaxy own the head-to-head tiebreaker with both teams, should one of them tie the Galaxy for points. The Galaxy, which tied for the worst record in MLS only a year ago, certainly hope their first West regular season title in seven years is a good omen. The last they won the West, they also won the MLS Cup. They just missed out that season on a double when they were beaten by the Columbus Crew in the U.S. Open Cup final. The Galaxy got a badly needed insurance goal in the 77th minute when Chris Klein, who had just come on as a substitute for Mike Magee, sent a beautiful pass to Landon Donovan who had gotten behind defender Brandon McDonald. Donovan took the pass, then beat an onrushing Cannon through his legs for his 12th goal of the season. The Galaxy dominated for most of Saturday’s match, especially in a first half which featured several good chances before ironically taking the lead on what amounted to a fluke goal. It was just five minutes into the match when the Galaxy had its first chance on an 8-yard blast by defender Sean Franklin after a wild scramble just outside the goal crease and directly in front of the San Jose net. But his attempt never made it through a group of players and was blocked by McDonald, a former member of the Galaxy. Then it was David Beckham’s turn 12 minutes later. San Jose’s Bobby Convey was called for a foul and then received a caution for dissent to set up a free kick from about 28 yards. Beckham expertly curved the ball over and around the Earthquakes defensive wall, but the ball sailed wide of the net by no more than a yard. San Jose, which was on a four-game (1-0-3) unbeaten streak on the road, finally showed some life on offense barely two minutes later when a shot by Ramiro Corrales just missed the Galaxy net from about 20 yards. The Galaxy, however, clearly were holding the upper hand in quality chances. Dema Kovalenko, for example, known more for his defensive play, got into the offensive flow and barely chipped one over the crossbar in the 22nd minute. That led to the Galaxy’s unusual score two minutes later. Donovan simply was attempting a cross into the penalty area when San Jose’s Bobby Burling stuck out his foot. The ball was deflected just enough, sailed high over the outstretched hand of Earthquakes goalie Joe Cannon and landed in the far corner of the net for a stunning own goal and 1-0 Galaxy lead. The Earthquakes responded with their best chance of the opening 45 minutes. It was just two minutes later when Corrales attempted a free kick and sent the ball deep into the Galaxy penalty area. McDonald, streaking toward the net, got his head on it. Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, however, got his hand on it and made the save. The Galaxy had three more scoring opportunities in the half, first on Edson Buddle’s 22-yard attempt that Cannon saved easily; Chris Birchall’s attempt from a sharp angle that went wide of the net and, finally, another Beckham free kick. This one, in the 35th minute, was from 30 yards and went just high over the crossbar. By virtue of the victory, the Galaxy now know they will be the road team in the first leg of next week’s Western Conference Semifinal Series. But whether they travel to Houston — or remain right at home for the first-ever SuperClasico playoff series against fellow Home Depot Center residents Chivas USA — remains to be seen.

Hurray!! This is great news for the Galaxy … and the news just keeps getting better. As is his custom, Becks stripped off his jersey after the match and paraded around the grounds showin’ off his fine physique. After the jump, check out a few pics of hawt Becks stripped down to the waist …

On his way out
David Beckham Helps The LA Galaxy Head Into The Play-Offs

David Beckham played one of his last home games with the LA Galaxy at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA last night. Altho it is being reported that Becks has already signed a new contract with Italian soccer team AC Milan (which is set to begin permanently next January), he played last night with much gusto helping his team beat Toronto FC by a score of 2-0, moving them forward towards the MLS play-offs. Here are a few pics of Becks in action in last night’s game:

David Beckham scored once and assisted on another goal to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC. The Galaxy remain two points behind Houston for the Western Conference lead and are third in the MLS with 41 points. The top team in each conference and the clubs that have the next six highest point totals qualify for the playoffs. Beckham scored in the ninth minute with a left-foot strike from 17 yards. Edson Buddle clinched the win with seven minutes to play. Former Manchester United star Beckham said: ‘Tonight, I was happy with my goal and I was happy with the assist I gave to Landon and Eddie, but I think it was the overall team performance that was exceptional tonight.’ Galaxy boss Bruce Arena said: ‘David’s a real good player, there’s no question about it. He is a person with a lot of pride, besides that outstanding ability that he has. He did everything he could tonight to lead this team. I thought his performance was outstanding.’

As per usual, Becks had his cheering squad in the hiz last night rooting him and the LA Galaxy to victory:

And by games end, as he is usually wont to do, Becks stripped off his soccer jersey so that he could walk off the field victorious — and shirtless. After the jump, check out the pics of Becks sans kit …

David Beckham Gets Back In The Game After Suspension

Last weekend David Beckham was ejected from the LA Galaxy match vs. the Seattle Sounders after he (and Galaxy teammate Eddie Lewis) was slapped with a red card penalty for unnecessary roughness. Not only was Becks fined for the infraction but he had to endure a 1 game suspension and was forced to miss a match vs. Chicago earlier this week. But Becks (and Lewis) were back in action in Washington DC for the match vs. DC United. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, which wasn’t really good for anyone, but Becks ended up stripping off his jersey at the game’s end so, I suppose it ended up win-win all around:

David Beckham’s return wasn’t enough inspiration for the Los Angeles Galaxy in a 0-0 draw with D.C. United in Major League Soccer on Saturday. Beckham served a one-game suspension for a red card given on Aug. 15 against Seattle. The Galaxy beat Chicago 2-0 on Wednesday without their English star but couldn’t find the net in soggy conditions at RFK Stadium in Washington, where Beckham made his MLS debut just over two years ago. The Galaxy, unbeaten in their last six road matches, remained second in the Western Conference and fourth overall. United remained fourth in the Eastern Conference and ninth overall.

LOL. I mean, really, do people still come out to watch Becks play soccer or to run around for a while, get all sweaty and then get half nekkid? Trust me, I do not mind. I find it kinda funny that officials think they are punishing Becks by making him miss games with the LA Galaxy. Instead of having to jet to Chicago, he got to stay home and plot with his family his escape from his MLS contract for sunnier shores with AC Milan. If they really want to punish him for red card infractions, they should require that he play more games with the Galaxy. That’d show him ;)
