HULK SMASH WAY BACK TO TV
The Incredible Hulk Is Making His Return To TV

A couple of weeks ago we learned that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have teamed up with writer David E. Kelly to put together a new Wonder Woman TV series and today we learn that ABC and Marvel Comics are doing the same with their superhero The Incredible Hulk. As some of you may recall, The Incredible Hulk had his own live action TV series in the late 70′s/early 80′s that stared Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno as Bruce Banner and The Hulk respectively … today we learn from Deadline that a new live action Hulk series is in the very early stages of development:

The Incredible Hulk is muscling his way to primetime TV. ABC is in very early stages of development of a live-action series adaptation of the popular Marvel comic book character. There is no writer on board yet with search underway. Marvel, which was acquired by ABC parent Disney last year for $4 billion, started a major push in TV in June with the launch of Marvel Television whose goal was to adapt Marvel characters and stories to the small screen. Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb (Smallville) and his team quickly zeroed in on The Hulk, with rumors of a potential Hulk live-action series first surfacing in mid-summer … The Hulk is the second major comic book character to get a primetime treatment for next season. Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics are developing a Wonder Woman series with The Practice creator David E. Kelley.

While Wonder Woman as my fave Superhero TV series when I was very young (I even preferred it to the Batman series), I used to love watching The Incredible Hulk with my mom. For some reason, she LOVED The Incredible Hulk so watching that show was kinda our thing together. At this early stage of development there is no way to know how the show will look but I really would LOVE it if they, once again, cast 2 actors to play Bruce Banner and The Hulk. The FX were pretty nonexistent in the original series and, yes, they could make the new TV series an FX powerhouse … but I loved the simplicity of the green make-up and bad wig used to make Lou Ferrigno into The Hulk. I’m pretty sure this new series will not go the make-up only route but still … a boy can dream. I’m happy to hear this news … it’ll be very cool to see both Wonder Woman and The Hulk back on primetime TV once again.

Never say Never
Edward Norton Insists There’ll Be No Sequel To ‘The Incredible Hulk’

Despite rumors to the contrary, Edward Norton has dashed hopes this weekend at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, TX by insisting that a sequel to his 2008 film The Incredible Hulk will likely NOT be made. While Norton didn’t flat out and say it would never be made, he did say that there are no plans to make a sequel and even if so … it would not come for a very long time:

Since “The Incredible Hulk” was released in 2008, there have been talks about the sequel. In contrary to reports which sound certain that “Hulk 2″ is going to be made, Edward Norton says to Cinematical at the 2010 SXSW during the weekend that the upcoming movie would never come out. “I don’t think so,” he answered when asked whether or not “Hulk” sequel is happening. “I think they’ve got a whole lot of stuff to spool out before they get on into [a 'Hulk' sequel],” he further explains to MTV. Not only he will not return for another “Hulk” movie, Edward also says he has no cameo appearances in “Iron Man 2″, “Thor” and “The First Avenger: Captain America”. Though so, he does not rule out possibility of seeing him playing Hulk again as Norton says, “We’ll see what they want to do. I figure it’s a ways down the road.” The actor additionally hints that his character may appear in another Marvel’s film “The Avengers”, stating “I think at some point they’re going to figure out how they want to get around to ‘Avengers’.” Back in late 2008, Tim Blake Nelson as well as Tim Roth claimed they have signed on to do two “Hulk” sequels. “I’m signed on to do ‘Hulk 2′ and ’3′ whether Edward’s there or not,” the depicter of Samuel Sterns revealed. Though so, there have been no official words on a sequel to “The Incredible Hulk”.

This is bummer news for me … I loved The Incredible Hulk. Norton‘s Hulk film was far superior to the crappy film that Ang Lee made previously. I would LOVE to see a sequel film starring Edward Norton for another run as the big green man. Alas … it doesn’t sound like it’s meant to be. Any Hulk fans out there? Are you as bummed as I am that there may be no part deux?

My Top Movies & TV Shows Of 2008

Just like it was for music, 2008 wasn’t really a great year for movies or television … the Writer’s Strike at the start of the year really decimated Hollywood and severely hurt television programming. That said, there were a few really amazing films (highlighted by really amazing acting performances) and a select few TV shows that really brought the entertainment this year. Here is my list of my Fave Movies of 2008 … I think the #1 pick might surprise you.

At #10 is The Incredible Hulk:

This movie may not have been the best superhero film of all time but it beat the hell out of Ang Lee‘s Hulk and really did a service to both the comic book series and the TV series from the ’70s. This film really paid homage to the beloved TV series for the first half of the film and then represented the comic books very well in the second half of the film. All I know is that I had a really good time at the movies watching this film … and isn’t that what’s most important?

At #9 is W.:

Oliver Stone films are really hit or miss and this one was a pretty nice hit. Josh Brolin played a superb GWB and managed to put our soon-to-be ex-president in real context. I am no GWB fan by any stretch of the imagination but this film actually made him a sympathetic character. Props to Oliver Stone for actually doing the impossible.

In the #8 position is Doubt:

This film is all about the acting. And among the amazing acting performances, Meryl Streep far outshines everyone else in this film. She absolutely turned in the most powerful acting performance this year … she absolutely deserves all the Best Actress awards and, IMHO, the Best Actor awards as well — she is that good in this film. I feel bad for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, who both turned in exceptional performances, cuz Streep just steals the spotlight. She made this movie such a delight for me to watch.

At #7 is Milk:

At long last, the story of Harvey Milk‘s life made it to the big screen … and Sean Penn did his memory a great service. Milk may not have been a blockbuster but it is a very important story that is told so expertly that I wish it had made more money at the box office. Penn‘s cast of supporting actors were also pretty phenomenal … as a whole they told a tale that an entire generation of people were hearing for the first time — which was eerily similar to the events that were playing out on the streets of SoCal this past November.

At #6 is WALL•E:

OMG … what can I say about WALL•E that hasn’t been said a million times before? The movie is just cute as hell and actually caused kids and grown adults alike to fall in love with a sweet little animated trash compactor. I had my doubts about this film before I saw it for myself … but man, once I saw it — I was hooked. WALL•E is absolutely the Best Animated Film of 2008.

Hulk’s Incredible

While most of yesterday was spent dealing with tech issues on the website (which have yet to be resolved but should be all taken care of shortly) and my own manic issues, I did manage to save the end of the day and do something fun. David decided to extend his stay here in LA until this coming Wednesday (he was supposed to go back to NYC late last night) and Sarah stayed at my place last night for her last night in LA so we had a good ol’ time together! First we went out to see The Incredible Hulk:

Man oh man … The Incredible Hulk is awesome! I wouldn’t say it’s better than Iron Man but it’s damn close. The whole story was just solid and much attention was paid to staying true to the comics and to the TV show The Incredible Hulk of the late 70s. The first half of the movie was an homage to the TV series (with fun and inventive cameos by Bill Bixby [who played Bruce Banner in the TV show] and Lou Ferrigno [who played Hulk in the TV show], a nod to scenes from the show — even the theme song made an appearance). This new movie beats the hell out of the Ang Lee Hulk movie … the first 10 mins. are better than the whole first Hulk movie. I’m still amazed that the Hulk‘s pants manage to stay on when he gets all big and green … after all these years, those pants just won’t rip off. I was very impressed with the Sandisk product placement … while I doubt that you can really swallow a flash drive and then yak it up and have it still work, I do love my little Sandisk flash drives so I wouldn’t be surprised. I was surprised they didn’t do more to make downtown Toronto look like Harlem, New York. Anyone who’s ever been to Toronto and is familiar with Remington’s, Zanzibar and Sam the Record Man surely caught the poor attempt to make it seem like Hulk and Abomination were fighting in NYC. I loved the Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) cameo but they really should’ve kept the cameo a secret until the movie came out … putting Stark in the TV commercials really ruined the surprise ;( Also, don’t wait until after the credits to see an extra scene … there ain’t one.

But still … the movie rocks balls! I loved it so much, David loved it so much, Sarah loved it so much. I really think that folks who enjoyed Iron Man will also enjoy The Incredible Hulk. There is a bit of cross-over so you can see the Avengers movie coming from a mile away. Brills!!!!

After the movie, we made our way out to Mel’s Drive In in Sherman Oaks, CA for a little late night snackin’ and jukebox listenin’:

I swear, you’d think we never saw a jukebox before. We kept pressing numbers to hear our fave oldies, putting in quarter after quarter … not realizing that it’s all free. Whatevs we had fun.

But alas, Sarah is already well on her way back home to Detroit. I’m bummed we didn’t get to spend more time together but it was great having her in town nonetheless. I’m very happy David is staying with me for a few more days. He has been a godsend this week, I would’ve lost my shizz days ago if it weren’t for him. Plans for tonight are unclear … I do hope to catch some of the NBA Finals at some point … the Lakers have to win tonight or they’re dunzo for good. OY! Happy Sunday, y’all!!!

An ‘Incredible’ Cameo

ATTENTION: THE INCREDIBLE HULK SPOILER ALERT WARNINGWell … okay, it’s not necessarily a spoiler since the information that I’m about to discuss is displayed prominently in one of the trailers for The Incredible Hulk but before the Sex and the City Movie was released, I caught one trailer that gave away FAR TOO MUCH info for my liking and, as a result, I stopped watching any trailers or commercials for the movie to keep from learning any more than I had already learned. If you would like to remain completely unspoiled in regards to The Incredible Hulk then try to look away now … otherwise,

‘The Incredible Hulk’ Premieres

Hollywood’s second stab at a big screen movie adaptation of The Incredible Hulk had its Hollywood premiere here at Universal City at Universal Studios in the Gibson Amphitheatre yesterday afternoon. The Incredible Hulk stars Ed Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth were joined by folks like TV’s own Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno, Buffy alum and Dexter star Julie Benz and Days of our Lives star Alison Sweeney among others. Here are a few pics of these folks as they took to the green carpet Sunday afternoon:

On the one hand, I’m glad that they are giving the Hulk another shot at box office glory … on the other hand, I’m afraid it might turn out just as terrrrrible as Ang Lee‘s movie Hulk. I’m encouraged that the story is much more in line with both the comic books and the 1970′s TV series but the CGI graphics kinda look a bit similar (ie. kinda Shrekish). My gut tells me that this movie will be better than the previous Hulk movie but it remains to be seen if that will actually the case. The movie opens in theaters this coming Friday … I hope it has an incredible opening weekend :) Yes, I should be shot for that lame line. [Source]
