Britney Spears & Jason Trawick Attend The Grammy Awards Together

For public consumption
Monday, February 1st, 2010

Britney Spears and her agent/beau Jason Trawick jetted off together to record some music in Miami, FL late last week but the pair managed to traverse the country in time to get all dolled up for the Grammy Awards last night … yes, they attended as a couple :) Here are pics of Britwick pausing for a break in between recording sessions in Miami …

… and here is the happy couple seated together at the Staples Center last night for the Grammy Awards:

Britney looked fantastic! Britwick look so good together! I can’t even express how pleased I am to see them out and about together … in public. May their relationship continue to flourish in the coming weeks and months. Jason seems really, really good for Britney. I really hope their relationship can truly stand the test of time.

The 2010 Grammy Awards Are Handed Out

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Earlier today we learned that Taylor Swift made history as the youngest performer to win the Album of the Year award at the 52nd Grammy Awards last night and Beyoncé made Grammy history as the most honored woman in an single night. We also learned that the late Michael Jackson was paid tribute by a group of Grammy performers in a fun 3D performance and his children appeared on stage to accept his Lifetime Achievement Award. But there were a lot of other folks at the Staples Center last night for the Grammy Awards … many of whom made their grand arrivals on the red carpet last night:

I know Imogen Heap is taking a lot of flak for her weird outfit but A.) she always dresses weird so what’s the big deal and B.) her dress was a very special one that was broadcasting a live Twitter feed from her followers so that they could be with her at the Grammys last night. She gets snaps in my book. There was a lot of love, a lot of crazy mess and a lot of divas on the red carpet last night … which is pretty standard fare, I think. After the jump, check out a few photos from the show itself and find out who else took home Grammophone tropies from the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards last night

Michael Jackson Honored In 3D, Represented By His Children

The 2010 Grammy Awards pays homage to the late King of Pop
Monday, February 1st, 2010

The late Michael Jackson, who we are well aware tragically passed away last June, was honored during the 2010 Grammy Awards last night with a fitting tribute performed by Céline Dion, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Usher. The singers dueted with MJ on his ballad Earth Song, a performance that was broadcast on television in 3D. Not only did the attendees of the Grammy Awards (like Rihanna) outfit themselves with 3D glasses (courtesy of Target, who gave out the 3D glasses for FREE for the event last night) but so, too, did viewers at home … like me:

The Grammys rode the 3-D wave Sunday with a special-effects-laden tribute to the late Michael Jackson in an awards show that featured many big spectacle moments. Jackson’s children, Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11 appeared after the tribute to accept a lifetime achievement award for the pop star, who died in June of a prescription drug overdose. Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson and Usher performed in the tribute, mingling their voices with the voice of the late King of Pop against the backdrop of a 3-D film featuring Jackson’s 1995 eco-friendly “Earth Song.” Free 3-D “Grammy” glasses were distributed at Target stores nationwide so viewers could watch the show in 3-D from their living rooms. Part of the Jackson film shown during the Grammys aired in the recent documentary “This Is It” which was shot during rehearsals for Jackson’s comeback tour and showed the pop star looking fit just days before his death in June 2009. Jackson had intended the environmentally themed song and film to be part of that tour, which was supposed to have begun in July 2009. He was considered one of the most commercially successful entertainers of all time whose music and videos transformed the art and broke down racial barriers. The clip features a lush forest through the eyes of a young girl.

I hope you hung on to your 3D glasses because uploaded video clips of the Earth Song performance will (kinda) appear in 3D if you watch them on your computer :) In addition to the technologically fitting tribute performance last night, MJ’s children Prince Michael Joseph and Paris Michael Katherine appeared on stage to accept the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award which was awarded to MJ posthumously during the show:

After the jump, check out video of MJ’s kids accepting his award on stage, check out a backstage photo of Prince and Paris posing with their little brother Blanket AND bust out those 3D glasses, yo, you can watch Earth Song in 3D right here on the blog …

Beyoncé Wins 6 Awards At The 2010 Grammy Awards

Becomes the most decorated female artist in one Grammy night
Monday, February 1st, 2010

Taylor Swift may be reveling in the fact that she won the top Album of the Year prize at the 2010 Grammy Awards, held here in LA, CA last night, but the really major accomplishment goes to pop diva Beyoncé for winning 6 Grammy Awards … setting a new record for the most wins by a female artist in Grammy history. You may recall that Beyoncé took home 5 Grammy Awards on the strength of her debut album Dangerously In Love but those 5 wins tied her with Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse (who each won 5 awards in one night as well). Beyoncé’s 6th win last night (Song of the Year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)) put her over the top and into the Grammy record books:

Beyonce has set a record for the most wins by a female in one night at the Grammys as she won six awards, including best female pop performance and song of the year for her anthem “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Beyonce was Sunday night’s top nominee with 10 nods. Her wins also included best contemporary R&B album for “I Am … Sasha Fierce.” Beyonce had previously been tied for most wins by a female at a Grammys with Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse … She won the songwriting trophy along with three writers for her omnipresent anthem “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” The superstar also won best R&B contemporary album for “I Am … Sasha Fierce” among her other awards, and still had the opportunity to win the evening’s remaining top award — album of the year. Beyonce wasn’t on hand to accept her early trophies: She was preparing for her dramatic onstage rendition of “If I Were A Boy,” one of several hits from her top-selling third CD.

Well, we know now that Taylor Swift ended up nabbing the Album of the Year award but Beyoncé really did make a killing last night. At least she was nice enough to share the wealth, not only with Swift but also with Kings of Leon (who won Record of the Year for their massive hit Use Somebody). I think Beyoncé has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with … here’s hoping the best is yet to come. I firmly believe she will enjoy future award show nights just as big (or bigger) as last night’s haul at the 2010 Grammy Awards. There is still a lot of Grammy stuff to talk about … we’ll get to that a little later in the day. But first, a question … who do you think had a bigger night last night … Beyoncé or Taylor Swift?

Taylor Swift Wins Album Of The Year At The 2010 Grammy Awards

At 20, becomes youngest artist to win 'Album of the Year'
Monday, February 1st, 2010

Taylor Swift’s string of awards show wins continued unfettered last night as she managed to pick up 4 Grammy Awards at the big show here in Los Angeles, CA. Swift didn’t win just any 4 awards, she managed to walk away with Best Country Vocal (for White Horse), Best Country Song (for White Horse), Best Country Album (for Fearless) and the BIGGEST award of the night — Album of the Year (for Fearless). Swift’s win of Album of the Year makes her the youngest artist to win this award in Grammy history!

Taylor Swift won the biggest Grammy of the night, album of the year for her CD “Fearless.” “This is the story we’re going to be telling over and over again, that we got to win album of the year in 2010,” Swift said. Swift also won best country album. She won four Grammys overall.

Yeah, people are really lovin’ on the Swift these days. She surprised everyone (including Kanye West) by beating out Beyoncé at the MTV Video Music Awards last September (tho, Beyoncé ended up winning more Grammy Awards than Swift last night, setting her own record … which we’ll get to presently) and has been on an awards show roll ever since. She’s been cleaning up wherever she goes … and last night was no exception. After the jump, check out CNN video of Swift in the Grammy press room talking about what it feels like to have her dreams come true as a big Grammy winner …

Prince Michael & Paris Michael Jackson To Appear At The 2010 Grammy Awards

Princely duty
Friday, January 29th, 2010

The late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, will be honored at the Grammy Awards this Sunday night with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and it has been announced that his eldest children (with mother Debbie Rowe), Prince Michael Joseph and Paris Michael Katherine, will appear on stage to accept the award on his behalf:

Michael Jackson’s two eldest children are scheduled to take the stage this weekend to accept the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their father, Jackson family sources said. It would be the first public appearance for Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, since their dramatic appearance at the memorial service 12 days after their father’s death. “The whole world is waiting to see these children blossom,” said Brian Oxman, a lawyer for Joe Jackson. Two sources close to the family said the youngest, 7-year-old Blanket, was not expected to appear, although they suggested that might change. Contrary to some media reports, the sources said there was no plan for the children to sing or dance at the show. The Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards, will honor the late pop star with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Special Merit Awards ceremony Saturday evening in Los Angeles. Video of the presentation is likely to be included in Sunday night’s musical tribute to Jackson during the Grammy telecast, the sources said. While Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, is expected to attend, Joe Jackson, his father, decided not to go because of his anger over the behind-the-scenes talks that led to the agreement to have the children accept the award, family sources said. The decision came just this week, after Katherine Jackson, the legal guardian of the children, complained to Grammy producers that no family members had been invited, the Jackson sources said. Two sources in the family said that she was initially told by producers that the estate’s special administrators would decide who would take part in the Jackson tribute. “Can you believe this crap?” one source quoted Joe Jackson as saying when he heard that. The Grammy producers have not responded to a CNN request for comment. A spokesman for the estate administrators said the matter was for Grammy producers to decide.

Aww … poor Blanket. I’m guessing that he’ll be there with his older siblings, too. While I think this is a great opportunity for MJ’s children to step in on his behalf, you know that Grammy producers just want those kids on stage to attract higher ratings for the show (Oh, and Joe Jackson is an ass). Remember, there will be a tribute portion of the show devoted to Jackson that will be broadcast on TV in 3D. I understand that Target is giving away free 3D glasses for the event. The Grammy Awards air LIVE this Sunday night.

The 2010 Grammy Award Nominations Have Been Announced

Beyoncé leads the way with 10 noms, Taylor Swift follows with 8 noms
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Last night, in a lavish concert ceremony, the nominations for the 2010 Grammy Awards were announced on CBS and now we know which musicians will be vying for the most prestigious award in the music biz. Beyoncé, who had a pretty amazing year this year with her album I Am … Sasha Fierce and her massive hit single Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) leads the way with 10 nominations … but young upstart Taylor Swift, who has been winning a lot of pretty big awards already this year, managed to secure 8 nominations of her own. It sounds like the 2010 Grammy Awards are going to be pret-ty interesting:

Hold onto your seat cushion, Kanye West: It’s on – again! Taylor Swift’s amazing year continued at full speed as the teen sensation received eight Grammy nominations Wednesday – topped only by Beyoncé’s 10. And with West not far behind, joining the Black Eyed Peas and Maxwell with six nods each from their music-industry peers, the stage is set for another awards show showdown. But can it top West’s bizarre microphone grab during Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Awards? Naming the Grammy nominees was no quiet affair, either. Kicking off the big reveal was George Lopez , who was star struck by Smokey Robinson and Ringo Starr staring at him from ringside at Wednesday’s The Grammy Nominations Concert Live: Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night at LA’s Club Nokia. Still, the comic and TV host still found the words to announce the nominations for Song of the Year. And they would be Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and Swift’s “You Belong with Me.” In the Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals category, the nominees are the Black Eyed Peas, for “I Gotta Feeling”; Bon Jovi, for “We Weren’t Born to Follow”; The Fray, for “Never Say Never”; Darryl Hall and John Oates, for “Sara Smile”; and MGMT, for “Kids.” Katy Perry announced the Best Rock Album contenders: AC/DC, for Black Ice; Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, for Live from Madison Square Garden; Green Day, for 21st Century Breakdown; Dave Matthews Band, for Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King; and U2, for “No Line on the Horizon”]. Dwight Yoakum named the Best County Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal hopefuls: Brooks and Dunn, for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry”; the Zac Brown Band, for “Chicken Fried”; Lady Antebellum, for “I Run to You”; Rascal Flatts, for “Here Comes Goodbye”; and Sugarland, for “It Happens.” Robinson and Starr had the honor of naming those in the running for Record of the Year and Album of the Year. For Record: Beyoncé’s “Halo,”, Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” and Swift’s “You Belong with Me.” “Don’t worry, Taylor,” advised Robinson. “Kanye West is not here.” Album of the Year nominees are Beyoncé’s I Am Sasha Fierce, the Black Eyed Peas’ The End, the Dave Matthews Band’s Big Whiskey and Swift’s Fearless. The hour-long nominations concert, broadcast on CBS, also featured a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, performed by Maxwell, as well as the debut of Nick Jonas & the Administration, who were introduced by Nick’s brothers, Kevin and Joe. The concert emcee was LL Cool J, whose opening routine contained the lyrical phrase, “No need to adjust your TV/It’s not Hugh Jackman/It’s a black man.”

Wow … people are loving Taylor Swift these days. I have to admit, I was happy that she won the awards that she won this year at the MTV VMAs and the CMA Awards but if she ends up taking home all the Grammys next year, I think Kanye West might just explode. As talented as I think Swift is, I’m really rooting for Beyoncé to win all the awards next year. She has worked really hard for so many years and this year is no exception. Her songs were megahits this year and she really deserves the credit. We’ll have to see how the Grammy voters feel when the 52nd annual Grammy Awards are handed out on January 31. Click HERE to see a full list of 2010 Grammy Award nominees. What do y’all think of these noms? Were your faves nominated? Who do you think will be the big winner next year?
