"I really hope it works out"
Dakota Fanning Expresses Her Interest In Appearing In The ‘Twilight’ Sequel

Late last week we learned that Dakota Fanning is in reported talks to appear in the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon and today we have a bit of confirmation that the talks are underway. People magazine reports that Dakota believes that it would be a “fantastic experience” for her if she were able to secure a role in New Moon:

Dakota Fanning is ready to bare her fangs as vampire Jane in the Twilight sequel New Moon. “I really hope it works out,” Fanning, 14, told Hitfix.com while promoting her current thriller, Push. “It would be a really fantastic experience, I’m sure.” Just last week it was reported the young star was offered the role sans audition because director Chris Weitz is so confident that Fanning is right for the part. Talk about a perfect fit: A member of the deadly Volturi, the Jane character is described in a casting notice as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face [and] crimson irises.” If everything falls into place, Fanning will join returning stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Filming begins in March in the U.S. and Italy, with New Moon set to open in November.

OK, so at this point we know that A.) the negotiations for her to play Jane are underway and B.) that she wants the role. Methinks the role is hers if the money is right. I understand that these negotiations usually come down to the money … and Dakota Fanning is already a big name (relative to the other actors thus far cast in Twilight and New Moon) so she’s gonna need a bit o’ change to sign on. Something tells me that they’ll pay up … for the most part, reaction to Dakota playing Jane has been really positive. I suspect we’ll hear an announcement soon (again, if the money is right) that the part is hers.

Best Supporting Actor
Heath Ledger Wins Posthumous Critic’s Choice Award

The late Heath Ledger won the Best Supporting Actor award at last night’s Critic’s Choice Awards which were held here in SoCal at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. When his name was announced, Heath was honored by the assembled audience with a standing ovation and The Dark Knight‘s director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on his behalf:

THE late Heath Ledger has won the Critic’s Choice Award for best supporting actor for his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight. The film’s director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on Ledger’s behalf. The win is another indication the Australian actor’s role in the Batman blockbuster may also be recognised with a Golden Globe on Monday. The Dark Knight also won in the best action movie category but the big winner at the Los Angeles ceremony was Slumdog Millionaire which received best picture, director, young actor, writer and composer honours.

This is a great sign that Heath will not only win his Golden Globe nomination but may, too, garner at least an Academy Award nomination … and possibly go on to win that as well. Detractors may still claim that these awards are merely “sympathy” awards but I have always contended (since the first time I saw the film) that Heath‘s powerful performance is worthy of the accolades. Personally, I believe that he should’ve won the Best Actor award for his work in Brokeback Mountain so, for me, his Academy Award is overdue. Whatever happens in the coming Awards Season, it can’t be denied that Heath‘s portrayal of the Joker was stunning and a true tour de force. Here’s hoping this Critic’s Choice Award is just the first of many to come.
