And away she goes ...
Madonna Kicks Off Her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ World Tour

Madonna, the uncontested Queen of Pop, kicks off her new Sticky & Sweet World Tour in Cardiff, Great Britain tonight at the Millennium Stadium and the world waits with bated breath to hear (or, if you’re lucky enough to be attending this first show, see) what Maddy has got up her sleeve for this latest tour. But, ahead of tonight’s first show we have a couple of preview pics of Madonna on stage from her full dress rehearsal performance which took place last night. Here are pics of Madge in her “old school” tour costume last night:

There are quite a few more pictures out there from the final dress rehearsal performance last night but in an effort to keep as many secrets about the tour unspoiled until the tour actually starts, I’ll not be posting them. That said, I do plan to post a few pics of the opening night show in Cardiff (which takes place tonight) tomorrow in a post about the show.

Madonna.com has announced the opening of the official tour store where souvenirs from the Sticky & Sweet World Tour can be purchased online, including t-shirts, posters and the tourbook:

After the jump, check out a few pictures from the tourbook, some stats about the show that have been released by Madonna‘s people and a short video of Madonna talking to her fans from backstage at last night’s dress rehearsal …

Dress you up
Madonna Previews Her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Costumes

Women’s Wear Daily has gotten their hands on a few preview sketches of some of the costumes being orchestrated by costume designer Arianne Phillips for Madonna‘s upcoming Sticky & Sweet World Tour which give us an idea of how the show is going to look. A little bit hipster/raver chick, a little bit Benedictine Monk — the Sticky & Sweet Tour looks like it’s going to have an interesting feel overall:

Most people are lucky to work with Madonna once. Costume designer Arianne Phillips has lasted 11 years, from the singer’s Pre-Raphaelite look for “Ray of Light” to the urban cowgirl of “Music” to the Patty Hearst look of “American Life” and on and on and on. In other words, measured in Madonna time, Phillips is roughly 77 years old. Still, La Ciccone’s upcoming “Sticky and Sweet” tour has had its own unique challenges for her longtime stylist. “Normally we prep in April and May, and open in June,” says Phillips. “This time, the tour begins in August. It’s a nightmare. Everyone in Italy and France is on a beach sunning themselves.” Thankfully, everyone is a bit of an exaggeration, as Phillips goes on to detail a mile-long list of willing collaborators and everything they’ve designed for the trek, which begins Aug. 23 in Cardiff, Wales, and comes to the United States in early October. Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci designed two outfits, while Tom Ford provided bespoke suits for the band. Three pairs of shoes have been custom-made by Miu Miu, there are thigh-high boots courtesy of Stella McCartney, sunglasses from Moschino, and other outfits and odds and ends from Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, and Jeremy Scott. As in the past, this tour will be divided into four sections. The first references gangsta pimp and Art Deco with Givenchy costumes. This, it would seem, is Madonna’s current take on her longest-running fashion inspiration — the dominatrix. “It’s a theme that runs throughout her career” Phillips says. “She’s not afraid of being hard.” The second section has been termed “Old School,” and harkens back to Madonna’s early days in New York, with Scott’s outfit and some vintage prints from Keith Haring, the late graffiti artist and friend of Madonna who died of AIDS in 1990. “He and Madonna were friends. If he were alive, it would be his 50th birthday as well. So I thought, ‘What if we revisited that?’” Afterward, there’s a gypsy section with more costumes from Givenchy. “Riccardo’s a new young talent. If you look at Madonna’s history with fashion, that makes him an obvious choice.” Finally, there’s a futuristic rave section with lots of Japanese influences.

Sounds pretty cool … but Madonna‘s tour costumes have always been very cool, very inspired. Even folks who may have had general overall problems with her shows have a hard time finding fault with her costuming. Maddy works with the best of the best and her fashion sense, at least on stage, is usually pretty spot-on. The hipster thing may already be a bit dated but I am pretty confident that the look will work well on stage. All in all, I’m very intrigued by the look of this new tour … I’ve been hearing that the Britney Spears video scenes may not actually make it into the final show (which I hope is incorrect) but if they are, I am very anxious to see how the whole thing comes together. I’m also hearing that Madonna is mulling adding a Detroit date to the tour — if she does, I will deffo plan to be at that one :) I really like these sketches, do we think that they will work well on stage?

UPDATE: I just found out that Madonna has added a Detroit concert stop on November 18 at Ford Field! Woot!!! Tickets aren’t on sale yet but I’m gonna see if I can make it :)

Possibly filming a scene for Madonna's new 'Sticky & Sweet' World Tour
Guess Who’s In An Elevator

Okay … so this isn’t really a Guess Who post … I think it’s safe to say that everyone would be able to guess that the following photos are of Britney Spears filming her much baley-hooed video scenes for Madonna‘s upcoming Sticky & Sweet World Tour:

Apparently E! got the first footage of Britney filming these scenes, footage which natch has already made its way to the InterWeb. Those of you who don’t want to be spoiled should refrain from reading the rest of this post. After the jump, check out two more pics of Britney in the elevator shooting her scenes …

Is 'excited' to be working with Madonna again
Britney Spears Gets Her Hair Did

Britney Spears was all smiles yesterday afternoon as she emerged from a hair salon in West Hollywood with a full head of new, straightened hair. Additionally, a “pal” of Britney‘s dishes to People magazine that she is “excited” to be working with Madonna again for her new Sticky & Sweet World Tour (you may recall that Maddy enlisted Britney‘s help, asking her to appear in video segments that will be shown on massive video screens during her concert show). Even tho E! Online reports that technical difficulties have pushed back production on Britney‘s filmed video segments, everything is still a go for the collabo to take place this week. Here are pics of Britney showing off her new weave yesterday afternoon:

Britney Spears will soon collaborate with Madonna again, and the embattled singer is psyched to reunite with her idol, says a pal. The pop icons are teaming up to film a segment that is expected to be part of Madonna’s upcoming Sticky & Sweet tour. “Britney is excited, but in a grown up way,” says the source, who has seen the singer through her recent ups-and-downs. “She has come a long way in the last year.” According to the source, Spears, 26, who used to make headlines for her late-night outings and reckless driving, has been showing new signs of maturity. “She has settled down and is full of life but not childish,” says the pal … “Working with Madonna is a dream, but I think she feels like it’s one she’s earned,” says the pal. “She’s respectful but full of her own ideas about the work … I think that so many people have no idea that Britney is fully aware of what’s going on. She may not always have been, but she is now. And she is – if not in control – in partnership with her father and her managers in her future.”

I think it’s clear to pretty much everyone that Britney has gotten her life back on track, it’s great to know that she’s been making great progress behind the scenes as well. I think this collabo with Madonna is a brilliant move … I loved it when they teamed up the first time and I’m totally on board for this second round of cooperation. As I mentioned before, tho, E! is reporting that set delays have caused a minor road bump in the video production but that things should be back on track today:

Britney Spears and Madonna’s latest hookup has been temporarily derailed by a technical glitch. Spears had been scheduled to begin shooting a video montage for Madonna’s upcoming tour this morning at the Lots soundstage in Hollywood. But production insiders say that because the set was not finished in time, cameras will not roll until tomorrow. The set features an elevator, in, around and on which Spears will dance. “The video will be very deep,” a source in the Spears camp tells E! News. “You’ve never seen Britney like this before. It will blow your mind.”

All other information about this video collabo is being kept under lock and key, which I think is smart. Reports of what exactly this video piece is all about are bound to make their way around the Interweb once Madonna‘s tour gets underway in Cardiff, UK — even then, I’m not sure I want to know. I’m sure I won’t be able to resist reading about this new Madonna/Britney collaboration but I think I’d much prefer finding out what the big secret is until I can see it for myself … but that ain’t gonna happen. In any event, things continue to look up for our dear Britney. I still can’t believe she’s been able to turn her life around so successfully, so quickly. Woot!

Repeat performance?
Madonna Asks Britney To Get ‘Sticky & Sweet’

It’s official! Madonna and Britney Spears have teamed up to work together again. Britney‘s longtime manager Larry Rudolph tells Access Hollywood that Madonna has asked Britney to appear on her upcoming Sticky & Sweet World Tour and Britney has agreed. But, Brit‘s appearance will only take place on video and not in person … which is just fine by me. If handled properly, I think this collabo is going to kick all ass:

The last time Madonna and Britney Spears shared a stage together, the pop stars locked lips at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards in a kiss that shocked and delighted their fans. But now, Access Hollywood has learned the music powerhouses will once again share the stage in Madonna’s upcoming “Sticky & Sweet” world tour — though not exactly live. Despite rumors that Brit would join Madge onstage, the blonde duo will appear together, but only through a taped video performance, Access has confirmed. “Britney’s doing a video piece this week for Madonna’s new tour,” Brit’s manager, Larry Rudolph, told Access. The duo filmed a portion of the video Sunday that will be used during the concert, a rep for Madonna said. “Britney shot some footage with Madonna yesterday that will be used during Madonna’s upcoming tour,” the Material Mom’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, confirmed to Access. As for a surprise appearance by Brit on stage alongside Madonna, fans should not hold their breath, according the rep. “I do not believe that Britney will be appearing live on the tour,” she added.

Wow! This is great, if surprising, news. I was sure that Maddy would never work with Britney again after the way things went down the last time they collaborated (after Britney started talkin’ shizz about Kabbalah). It seems as if bygones are, in fact, bygones. What I’m not sure about is where this taped performance took place. Did Britney fly off to NYC to shoot the performance with Madonna or did she tape her portion here in SoCal? As much as I don’t want to be spoiled with tour deets before I see the show, I’m really dying to know what this collabo entails. Since Britney is doing Madonna the favor for her tour, I wonder if Brit is going to ask Madge to return the favor and appear on her next album … could there be another Me Against the Music in our future? This is all great news … and what a great way to deflect the Madonna talk from divorce and back to her tour.
