Madonna Gets ‘Sticky & Sweet’ In Detroit, MI

Last night Sarah, Mark, Tracey, Erik and I met up for a quick bite to eat at Union Street in Detroit, MI before we headed over en masse to Ford Field to see Madonna‘s Sticky & Sweet World Tour homecoming concert last night. This show was the first time Madonna brought a concert tour to Detroit (to Michigan, even) since her Drowned World Tour so the whole Detroit metro area was very excited to come out and see her. Here are a few pics that I snapped at last night’s show:

Maddy sounded really happy to be home … she gave Detroit 13 shout-outs, made 2 mentions to her “home town”, mentioned the “Motor City” once, uttered the phrases “There’s no place like home” and “You can take the girl out of Detroit but you can’t take the Detroit out of the girl”, proclaimed that “Detroit girls don’t take no shit” and asked the audience to get loud because she “don’t come here very often, so make it big”. When I saw her in LA she didn’t really talk to the crowd very much … last night, she wouldn’t stop talking to the hometown crowd. The show was really fun, we had a blast. I also got to meet a few Detroit (and one Windsor, Canada) Pink readers at the show last night:

I have to give a shout-out to Jeffrey, Zach, Julia (and their friends Allie and Sophie), Michelle (from Windsor) — and an extra pic of Robbie (from Melbourne, Australia), who I met at the LA Madonna show a couple of weeks ago. It was great to meet you all :)

After the jump, check out a video that I shot at last night’s show of Madonna performing the requested song of the night with the entire crowd, a song she recently vowed she’d never perform again — Material Girl

Madonna Gets ‘Sticky & Sweet’ In LA

Last night I asked Jordan to be my guest at Madonna‘s LA stop on her Sticky & Sweet World Tour at Dodger Stadium. Overall we had a really fun time, it was the first time that Jordan saw Madonna in concert, but I gotta tell you … last night was not without its travails. Because the traffic sitch was so horrible and because we did not want to miss a single second of the show, we had to park our car about a mile away from the venue in order to make our way into the stadium. Trust me, it was not the best way to start out the evening but … sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Once we arrived, tho, we had a blast. My very good friend and Semtex Girl Denise not only got us amazing floor seats but we also got passes for the Hospitality Tent backstage before the show. We ran into Fergie, Lisa Rinna, Lucy Liu, Hayden Panettiere and Kristin Cavallari all within 10 feet of one another … but because we were more interested in Madonna, we didn’t stick around to chat. Here are a few pics from the show last night:

The show was very cool but I have to admit that I preferred last year’s Confessions on a Dancefloor tour. Even still, there was quite a bit of show to enjoy last night. My least favorite song on the new album Hard Candy is She’s Not Me — I think it’s silly and a bit ridic — but the live performance of it in this show (with the Madonna wannabes) was pretty inspired. I may not like the song but I loved the performance. I was also very taken with the “rock” version of Borderline. There are a lot of fun surprises peppered thruout the show, I can see how diehard Madonna fans really love this show. Clearly the biggest and best surprises were the guest appearances by Britney Spears (which we talked about earlier today) and Justin Timberlake. JT came out to perform all of 4 Minutes with Maddy and did a pretty spectacular job with the choreography (it was the same routine he did with her in NYC earlier this year at her Hard Candy Promo Show at the Roseland Ballroom). The show overall was really very fun. Near the end of the show, Madonna addressed her sadness that Prop 8 was passed in California … she encouraged proponents of equal rights to continue the fight to end discrimination. Then she told the crowd to “come near the stage” and a sea of people overrun the security guards and pressed up against the barriers, filling the empty spaces left by the celebs who were not in their seats. Twas fun. I can’t wait to see the show again in Detroit in a couple of weeks ;)

I got to meet a few Pink readers last night … including Robbie from Australia and Katie who is pictured below. Here are some personal pics from last night’s fun:

Jordan and I met up with Darion and Cameron after the show to hang for a bit before we all made our way home. Jordan and I, of course, had the long mile trek back to our car but since we were walking downhill and were still on a Madonna high, it wasn’t that bad a trek at all. The show got a very late start and we got home later than I anticipated but it was a freakin’ awesome night. Much, much love goes out to Denise for taking such good care of Jordan and me. I love her to bits, thanks again!!

No plans for tonight … I think I’m gonna veg like a mofo. The weekend looks bizzy so I might want to rest up.

It's a cameo, bitch!
Britney Spears Performs With Madonna In LA

Britney Spears, as was expected, briefly joined Madonna on stage in LA last night during Madge‘s Sticky & Sweet World Tour stop at Dodger Stadium. While Britney did not offer a full performance of any song, she did come out for a short cameo during Madonna‘s performance of her song Human Nature to offer up some backing vocals — and her, now, trademark phrase “It’s Britney, bitch!” Here are a few pics of Brit and Maddy on stage together:

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake each took the stage in separate appearances at Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet tour at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium Thursday night. But, PEOPLE has learned, the two actually crossed paths during rehearsal. Timberlake was first, and then Spears came on stage to run through her part. “They said ‘hi’ to each other. Justin was very cool,” a source says. Adds another source, “This was a night for [Britney] to enjoy, and not stress over. This was a good moment for her to just enjoy and have fun.” And enjoy she did. Dressed in satin black pants and white suit shirt with ruffle, Spears has been appearing in a taped segment during Madonna’s “Human Nature” performance since the beginning of the tour. Her “It’s Britney, bitch!” segment she did live. Madonna greeted her with “Hi Britney!” And Spears, with her blonde hair flowing and red lips smiling, moved to the beat as she sang the last chorus on “Human Nature” with Madonna. “She’s not your bitch” Madonna proclaimed, pointing at Spears who replied with her classic line: “It’s Britney, bitch!” Madonna had to swing her around three times to get her to loosen up a little bit and, in a far cry from the 2003 smooch, kisses Spears on the hand as her platform sunk below the stage. “4 Minutes” came on and remixed into “Vogue” as Spears disappeared from view.

Woot! I was lucky enough to be in the hiz at Dodger Stadium last night and I gotta say … the place erupted when Britney came out onto the stage. Even tho her participation was short, the crowd was more than thrilled to cheer on her appearance last night. After the jump, check out a couple videos of Britney on stage with Madonna

In concert tonight, not necessarily all at the same time
Madonna To Perform Live With Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake

Holy shizz, y’all! As some of you may be aware, Madonna brings her Sticky & Sweet World Tour to Dodger Stadium here in LA tonight and there is some very exciting news to report about tonight’s particular performance. Ryan Seacrest broke some amazing news about tonight’s show on KIIS FM here in SoCal yesterday afternoon that is SURE to thrill fans of Madonnaand Britney Spearsand Justin Timberlake. It is being reported that Madge will bring Britney on stage to perform with her during tonight’s performance AND she’ll also bring JT on stage with her to perform as well:

In an unprecedented concert event, music superstars Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears will appear on stage together in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium Thursday night. Ryan Seacrest broke the news on 102.7 KIIS-FM Wednesday as much excitement for Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet concert tour grows in Southern California. “If Justin and Britney end up on that stage with her…I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything quite like that before,” said Ryan as he spoke to afternoon DJ Boy Toy Jesse. This marks the first time Britney Spears has been seen with former beau Justin Timberlake in years. It will also be the first time Britney has appeared on stage with Madonna since their controversial kiss in the opening act of the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

Word is that Britney will join Maddy on stage for her performance of Human Nature and JT will join her on stage for their performance of 4 Minutes. At this point there is no indication that Britney and Justin will appear on stage together at any time but … I guess you never know. Can I just say OMFG?!?! Only the godlike Madonna can bring the world this close to an actual Britney and Justin reunion … this has to be the coolest pop culture news ever. Thanks to my amazing friend and Semtex Girl Denise, I will be in the hiz tonight at Dodger Stadium to witness this event in person! I’m SO dying. Folks, if you live within the vicinity of the LA venue, I implore you to click HERE and get tickets for the show and come out. History could be made tonight again! Okay, mebbe I’m overstating things a bit but I predict that tonight’s Madonna concert could be hugely monumental … at least pop culturally. Hope to see you there tonight!!!

They're just like us!
Celebs Voted!

Woot! A new day has dawned here in America … and the World … and while there is still much to celebrate, there is also much work to get done in the aftermath. It’s also time to get back to the goss ;) Yesterday I created a photo album of friends and Pink readers proudly showing off the I Voted stickers (or handmade signs) that they were given after they voted yesterday and today we get to see a whole bunch of photos of celebs showing off their I Voted stickers, too. Americans came out in record numbers to vote yesterday and those numbers included celebs … here are a few of them who exercised their right to vote yesterday:

Depending on where the celebs live, these photos were snapped in NYC and here in LA. Here is another batch of celebs who came out to vote yesterday:

I’m pretty sure that some of these celebs were voting for President for the first time in their lives and it seems pretty safe to assume that the lion’s share of them added to President-elect Barack Obama‘s historic win.

I’ve been getting emails and messages from around the World of folks cheering on Obama‘s victory as news of his election as the 44th President of the United States of America made headlines around the world. Here are a few of the UK papers splashing the news across their covers:

David tells me that newsstands all over NYC are selling out of copies of The New York Times, etc. so I would suggest that y’all snap up your local newspapers — wherever in the country you are — and put them away for posterity. I’m just sayin’ ;)

Madonna was in concert in San Diego, CA last night and was on stage when news of Obama‘s win was announced … she happily broke the news to her assembled audience and talked a little bit about the momentous nature of the win while on stage. After the jump, check out video of her impromptu speech …

Toasting her divorce?
Madonna Takes A Shot At Singlehood

It’s been two days since we got official confirmation that Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie have decided to divorce after almost 8 years of marriage. Since that announcement, Madonna has maintained her bizzy touring schedule, taking to the performance stage in Boston, MA on Wednesday (the same day that the divorce news broke) and again last night for the second Boston performance. Now, I’ve not been able to see the Sticky & Sweet World Tour for myself yet so I’m not sure if this is an everynight occurrence but at last night’s show, Madonna paused to take a shot of a drink, appearing to be toasting her impending singlehood:

I can’t believe that Madonna would be so callous as to make light of her impending divorce from Guy so it looked to me that she was just having harmless fun with her impending new status. It never seemed to me that she was grossly unhappy with Guy or that she was aching to get out of her marriage. Throwing back a shot or two on the concert stage seems more like fun thing rather than apathetic dismissal of her marriage. In any event, I think it’s safe to assume that whatever the outcome, whatever may happen … things will happen to Madonna‘s satisfaction … and I’m sure she is always happy to drink a toast to that fact.

'Sticky & Sweet' World Tour carries on despite divorce news
Madonna’s Tour Stops For No Man

Yesterday morning we awoke to the news that Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie have decided to divorce after 7 1/2 years of marriage but that doesn’t mean that Madonna was going to put the brakes on her Sticky & Sweet World Tour. Maddy was scheduled to perform in Boston, MA last night — the same day she confirmed the divorce news — and some people thought she might postpone or otherwise take some time away from the public spotlight, if for just a moment. No such thing happened. Madonna took to the stage as scheduled and by all accounts rocked it out as if nothing were amiss in her life … tho, a curious comment ahead of her song Miles Away (which was reportedly inspired by Guy Ritchie) seemed, at least to some concert goers, to be a tiny dig at soon-to-be ex-hubby Guy:

Madonna took to the stage in Boston Wednesday – the same day she announced the demise of her seven-and-a-half year marriage – but kept mum on her marital woes. The 50-year-old singer tore through her athletic, two-hour set with her usual enthusiasm, as 30,000 fans at the TD Bank North Garden cheered her on. The closest Madonna came to mentioning her soon-to-be-ex, Guy Ritchie, or her marriage came while introducing the song, “Miles Away.” As she has in previous shows on her Sticky and Sweet Tour, she dedicated the song to the “emotionally retarded.” “You may know a few people like that,” she said. “God knows I do” … as the mother-of-three copes with her very public split, Madonna’s fans are rallying around her. “On the day she announces her divorce from a guy she really did love, all the die-hard fans are here to support her,” said Boston concert-goer Peggy Rose. “[We] love her no matter what.”

Yeah, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Madonna will be absolutely fine in the wake of her split from hubby Guy. Pretty much everything in Madonna‘s life seems to operate on her schedule to her satisfaction. I don’t really think that she is the type of person to allow things to happen in her life without her approval. Madonna is made of the sort of stern stuff of legend, not to get too hyperbolic here, and it seems to me that she will have no problem carrying on successfully no matter what major changes come her way. I suspect that Maddy and Guy will end up working thru the legalities of their divorce without much nastiness. As for the kids, well, they seem pretty used to spending their time with one parent or the other already so, sad to say, the physicality of their parents’ divorce might not affect them too much. I can see how Madge and Guy may stay friendly even after the split. I still think the break-up is very sad overall but my guess is that both parties will move forward cordially and expeditiously, wrapping up the whole matter sooner prolly than most people think. That just seems the way that Madonna operates.

Madonna.com has released the backdrop video titled Get Stupid which is broadcast during Madonna‘s Sticky & Sweet World Tour for those of us who have yet to see the show to watch it on the Interweb. This is the video that has angered a few politically conservative folks here in the US (for obvs reasons). Check it out for yourselves:

“Get up. It’s time. Your life! Your World! Get Up. It’s time. Your life! Your choice! Have got to say what’s on your mind … if you wait too long you’ll be too late.”

Madonna has had her say … what’s yours?

So does Kanye West
Britney Spears Makes A ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Cameo

Here are a few more pics from the opening night show of Madonna‘s Sticky & Sweet World Tour which took place at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, UK last night … as you can see, Britney Spears was featured during a portion of the show (Kanye West was featured during a different portion of the show) in a video that she shot here in SoCal a few weeks ago specifically for Maddy‘s tour:

In an effort to keep some of the tour secrets unspoiled for those of you who wish to remain unspoiled, further deets about Britney‘s cameo can be found behind the cut. After the jump, read more deets about Brit Brit‘s cameo (including which song Brit‘s video was featured in) and watch video of the actual cameo itself …

It's on now, y'all
‘Sticky & Sweet’ World Tour Officially Underway

It is well past showtime at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, UK where Madonna‘s Sticky & Sweet World Tour got underway a few hours ago … here are a few pics from Madonna‘s first couple of numbers at tonight’s tour premiere show:

It looks like she decided to hang on to the M throne that she debuted at the Roseland Ballroom (during a short promo concert she gave to celebrate the release of her new album Hard Candy) earlier this year. She looks great … I am very excited to see more, hopefully live — with my own eyes — very soon :)
