Rocco John Joins Madonna On Stage In Israel For ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour Finale

Hey, Mr. DJ
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Yesterday we saw photos and video of Lourdes Maria dancing on stage with her mother Madonna in Israel Monday night and today we get to see photos and video of Maddy’s son Rocco John getting up on stage to perform with his mother last night. Rocco hung out with the DJ on stage while Madonna performed and then busted out some dance moves of his own during a few numbers last night:

With big sister Lourdes grabbing the spotlight in Madonna’s video and dancing with her on stage, Rocco clearly wanted a piece of the action. The nine-year-old joined his famous mother on stage for the final night of her worldwide Sticky and Sweet tour in Tel Aviv, Israel. His Lourdes, also joined in the show, taking centre stage during dance routines and playing the piano on stage. Although the 51-year-old singer is reportedly a strict mother who doesn’t like the children to watch TV or read magazines, she seems to have no concerns about letting them have a little taste of the limelight. Rocco, Madonna’s son with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, joined her on stage on three tracks. He was seen pulling out some fancy footwork to the David Guetta track When Love Takes Over during the Paul Oakenfold set at the Hayarkon Park gig. He was later spotted jumping up and down and singing along to another dance track, before joining DJ Inferno wearing a baseball cap sideways in the DJ booth for mum’s performance of Music. Big sister Lourdes was also allowed on stage, joining in a dance routine with her mother at Tuesday night’s gig and playing the piano. She was dressed in the same revealing outfits as her mother during Give It To Me, and the popstar ended the concert with one armed draped around her daughter. Lourdes is proving to be quite the Madonna protege and even scored a starring role in her mother’s latest video clip for the single Celebration, which was released earlier this week.

Oh yeah, Madonna’s kids have tasted fame and they want more … this is just the beginning, I tells ya … you just wait and see. After the jump, check out a short video of Rocco jumping around on stage in Israel last night …

Madonna’s ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour Is The Most Successful Tour In History

For a solo artist
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

All hail the Queen of Pop!!! Live Nation has just released a press release announcing the amazing news that Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet World Tour has become the most successful tour in HISTORY by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows in front of approximately 8.5 million fans in 32 countries and grossing over $400 million, Madonna now holds the record for having the most successful tour … wow!

Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” Tour made history as it wrapped up last night with two final shows in Tel Aviv, Israel at Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park, September 1 and 2). The Material Girl more than lives up to her name, as her tour becomes the most successful tour ever by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows since its launch in August 2008, Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” has drawn more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries and has grossed US$408 million, it was announced today by Live Nation, the tour’s global producer. “Sticky & Sweet” is also the second highest grossing tour of all time. Madonna set an attendance record for the biggest crowds in history in Zurich, Switzerland, where she drew the largest audience ever assembled for a show in that country (72,000). Her Gothenburg, Sweden show, seen by 119,000 fans, broke the record for highest grossing multiple shows in the country’s history. In Helsinki, Finland, “Sticky & Sweet” sold more than 85,000 tickets, making it the biggest single show by an artist in history for all of Scandinavia. Other highlights on the tour included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina (256,000), Santiago, Chile (146,000), Sao Paulo, Brazil (203,000), Tallinn, Estonia (72,000), Warsaw, Poland (79,000), Bucharest, Romania (69,000), and Sofia, Bulgaria (54,000). “With ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially,” said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring. “Sticky & Sweet” broke Madonna’s previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist with her 2006 Confessions Tour, which grossed US$194 million Madonna’s upcoming CD, “Celebration” the definitive Madonna collection – is scheduled to be released at the end of September.

Damn … those are some stats. Only the Rolling Stones have been able to generate more money (raking in $558 million on their Bigger Bang Tour of 2005-2007) but it is clear that when it comes to solo artists, no one can hold a candle to Madonna. Say what you will about Maddy, but she has worked her ass off on this tour and deserves all the fruits of her success. Congratulations, Madonna!

Lourdes Maria Joins Madonna On Stage In Israel

Special Guest 'Little Star'
Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Madonna, who is currently on tour with her Sticky & Sweet Tour in Israel, brought a very special guest on stage with her during her performance of her song Give It 2 Me last night … Lourdes Maria, Maddy’s first born child (who made her music video debut in Madonna’s video for Celebration which was released yesterday), made her bespectacled guest appearance last night much to the delight of the thousands of fans in the audience:

Last night the pre-teen joined her mother on stage, on the penultimate night of her Sticky & Sweet world tour in Israel. Lourdes came on stage as Madonna sang Give It 2 Me, and is likely to appear again tonight on the final night of the tour. The youngster has already made an appearance in the first release of Madonna’s new Celebration track. It features the 51-year-old singer dressed in a sequinned mini-dress and thigh-high boots who walks provocatively up to her 22-year-old boyfriend Jesus Luz in an attempt to seduce him. Luz, posing as a topless DJ, ends up kissing the mother-of-four before the scene cuts to a troupe of breakdancers – including Lourdes.

It looks like Madonna is slowly introducing her daughter into the world of showbiz as Lourdes will also appear, dressed in Madge’s iconic Like A Virgin wedding garb, in another version of the Celebration music video which is set for release next week. After the jump, check out Lola dressed as a “virginal” bride and watch a short clip of mother and daughter on stage last night …

Madonna Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson In Her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour London Show

"Let's give it up to one of the greatest artists the world has ever known"
Sunday, July 5th, 2009

As I mentioned yesterday, Madonna kicked off the latest leg of her Sticky & Sweet Tour at the O2 Arena in London, England last night and she devoted a special segment to the memory of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I understand that Maddy changed up the show setlist a tiny bit (not to spoil the surprise for any of y’all who have yet to see this latest leg of the tour but I understand her song Frozen has been added to the setlist) but it is unknown if the added homage to Michael Jackson will be included in future performances of the Sticky & Sweet Tour or if this tribute was a one-time-only sort of thing:

For the most part, the tribute was a tiny portion of the show … a Michael Jackson impersonator came up onto the stage as photos of MJ himself were featured on the big screen and MJ’s music played along. The impersonator danced a few of MJ’s signature moves while Madonna and her dancers stood back, watched and applauded. At the end of the 1 1/2 minute segment, Maddy asks the audience to “give it up” for the late King of Pop and the tribute was over. After the jump, check out video of this Michael Jackson tribute at Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour performance in London, England last night …

Madonna Kicks Off Another Leg Of Her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour

Pays homage to Michael Jackson & airs full Buenos Aires concert on UK TV
Saturday, July 4th, 2009

In just a few hours, Madonna will kick off the newest leg of her Sticky & Sweet World Tour at the O2 Arena in London, England which, as many of you already know, was going to be the site of the late Michael Jackson’s 50 date performance of his This Is It Tour in just a couple of weeks. In honor of her late compatriot, Maddy will be paying homage to MJ in her show as she has added a special song and dance number in his honor during tonight’s performance. Madonna.com has been updated with a photo from rehearsals giving a sneak preview of this added tribute to Michael Jackson:

I understand that Madonna will not be able to attend MJ’s public memorial service at the Staples Center here in LA on Tuesday July 7 so I think it’s really very cool of her to pay tribute to her longtime friend in this way. It’s not exactly known when exactly Madonna and Michael Jackson met and became friends but they did run into one another in the early 80’s after MJ was already a well known star and Madge was an up and comer. Here is the undated first photo ever snapped of Madonna and Michael:

These two go back a long way. Again, it’s very fitting that Madonna has decided to add this tribute to her late friend in her concert performance. And speaking of … while Maddy will be performing LIVE on stage at the O2 Arena in London in just a few hours, folks in the UK (who won’t be at her concert tonight) will be able to watch her FULL Sticky & Sweet Tour performance from Buenos Aires, Argentina on television at the same time:

As I reported a few weeks ago, Sky1 and Sky1 HD will be broadcasting, in full, her Argentine performance which was filmed last December on TV — and those of us outside the UK will be able to watch the broadcast online as well. After the jump, check out the FULL broadcast of Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour performance for your viewing pleasure …

It’s Official! Madonna To Resume ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour This Summer

Keep on truckin'
Friday, January 30th, 2009

Earlier this week, Madonna.com was updated to confirm the rumors that Madonna is reviving her Sticky & Sweet World Tour this Summer (rumors that were sparked by the posting of tour dates on the Live Nation website) but no real information was given at that time. Today, Madonna fans (me included) received an email announcement that explains in full where the Sticky & Sweet World Tour will visit when it starts up again this July. Here is the full text of the just released press release:

MADONNA’S ‘STICKY & SWEET TOUR’ GOES BACK ON THE ROAD SUMMER 2009

MOST SUCCESSFUL CONCERT TOUR OF 2008 VISITS 22 MARKETS BEGINNING JULY 4 IN LONDON
Tour To Thrill Audiences In 13 First Time Stops for Material Girl

Madonna’s phenomenally successful ‘Sticky & Sweet Tour’, already the #1 Biggest Grossing Tour in history for a solo artist, will embark on another series of shows beginning July 4th in London. (Schedule follows this release). Stops will include appearances in never before played markets such as Werchter Belgium, Marseille France, Hamburg Germany, Oslo Norway, Helsinki Finland, Tallinn Estonia, Ljubljana Slovenia as well as stops in Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria it was confirmed today by Live Nation. Additional appearances by Madonna will include return visits after more than 15 years to Madrid, Gothenburg and Munich. “This is a first for me. I’ve never extended a tour before. I’m excited to be going back on the road, visiting places I’ve never been and returning to places I love” commented Madonna about the new run of dates. Raves around the globe for the tour include the London Times which remarked, “In the premiere league of song-and-dance spectaculars, the queen of pop remains unrivaled and undefeated.” “The choreography, visuals and live talent were world class and mind-blowingly well executed, intelligent and witty,” glowed The Independent (UK). With record breaking ticket sales everywhere, including 650,000 tickets sold in her series of South American dates, 72,000 tickets at Zurich’s Dübendorf Airfield – the largest audience ever assembled for a show in Switzerland, 75,000 tickets in London and four sell outs in New York’s Madison Square Garden (60,364 tickets). “This new run of dates will further solidify Madonna’s position as one of the top selling touring artists of all time,” said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring/Artist Nation. He has remixed The Rolling Stones, U2, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dog, Muse, New Order, The Cure, Massive Attack and even Elvis Presley, and produced The Happy Mondays. The two-time Grammy nominee is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the biggest DJ in the world. His new artist album, Pop Killer, is due out later this year. Madonna’s multi-Grammy-nominated CD, Hard Candy, debuted at Number One in over 37 countries.

And there you have it, those of you who have yet to see her Madgesty’s show or just want to see it again have another chance to do so. Earlier this week, I posted the tour dates that accidentally appeared on the Live Nation website — after the jump, check out the official list of tourdates released thus far along with the dates tickets for the shows will go on sale …
