Congratulations are in order for Stephen Gyllenhaal, father of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, because he got married over the weekend to his fiancée Kathleen Man in an intimate beach wedding in Hawaii. As you may recall, the Gyllenhaal parents divorced a few years ago but it looks like Daddy Stephen has already found a new lady love. Hottie McHoster Jake Gyllenhaal and his father Stephen were spotted roaming the streets of NYC together this weekend enjoying a bit of bonding time together. It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Jakey poo out and about without Reese Witherspoon by his side so while I would much prefer to see photos of the chap all by himself (preferably in some state of undress), I guess I can live with photos of Jake with his dad:

Aren’t these a fine pair of handsome men? I love it when Jake spends time with his family … we usually see him with his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal but it really looks like Jake and his dad are best buds. He’s such a nice boy … whoever manages to nab him is a lucky duck … and worthy of my jealous hate ;) I keed, I keed … kinda but not really ;)

Boo. It turns out that the dissolution of marriage doesn’t merely plague the high-powered, rich and famous … it also effects the parents of the high-powered, rich and famous. Naomi Foner has filed paperwork to end her 30+ year marriage to Stephen Gyllenhaal in California court this past Wednesday … the parents of Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal are dunzo, y’all:

Naomi Foner – the mother of Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal – has filed for divorce from their father, Stephen Gyllenhaal, Los Angeles court papers show. Married for 30 years, Foner – a Golden-Globe winning screenwriter with credits including Running on Empty and Losing Isaiah – cites irreconcilable differences. She says the couple has been separated since Jan. 1. Foner isn’t seeking spousal support, and she also asks the court to deny Gyllenhaal – a film director – any support.

This is really sad news, I think. I mean … it’s always sad when a couple breaks up but when someone’s parents split up it feels even sadder (btw, I never noticed how much Jake looks like his father and Maggie looks like her mother). While divorce like this really hurts younger children, like say Madonna and Guy Ritchie‘s children, I’m sure it can still be very upsetting for older children, too. Because of my affinity for Jakey poo, I guess I just find news of this divorce especially sad. At least it sounds like the Gyllenhaals are being fair in these proceedings. The fact that neither one is seeking support from the other makes it sound like the split is amicable. Even still … it’s a bummer.
