Courtney Love Does ‘Spin’ Magazine

"I'm not suicidal."
Friday, February 19th, 2010

On Wednesday we learned that Courtney Love has finally settled on a release date for her new Hole album (which features none of the original members of Hole) Nobody’s Daughter (the same name she was planning to give her next solo release) on April 27, 2010. News of the release date came from a new coverstory interview with Spin magazine … which features C. Love on the cover and in the pages of their March issue. In addition to talking about her new album, Love also talks about the drama concerning her loss of custodial rights of her daughter Frances Bean Cobain:

Courtney Love has never been shy about speaking her mind, and the rocker is characteristically unabashed in a new interview with Spin magazine. When asked about daughter Frances Bean, 17, who currently has a restraining order against her mom, Love points a finger at the family of her late husband Kurt Cobain. “Those snarly-ass O’Connors want checks,” she says in Spin slated to hit newsstands Feb. 23, referring to her late husband’s family. “I’m through supporting their asses.” Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor and his younger sister, Kimberly, currently have legal, medical and financial authority over the teenager. Despite losing legal control of Frances Bean, Love, 45, says she’s focused on making her new album, Nobody’s Daughter, a success. “One time, Frances was being mean and said, ‘What are you going to do if the record fails?’ ” Love reveals. “Well, Frances, it can’t fail because I love it, and I’ve worked really hard to make sure that I love it.” But, the magazine reports, Love is not as gruff as she sometimes seems and tears up at the mention of her daughter, saying, “I’m lost in a [expletive] nightmare maze.” The singer revealed her feelings about her daughter on Twitter last week, writing, “My daughter has been kidnapped and i am going to take it? Of course i was beyond angry, despondent suicidal in every way.” However, in the Spin interview, she references suicide again while discussing drugs. “I don’t take anything that isn’t prescribed to me,” she says. “Cocaine, narcotics – those would be tantamount to suicide, and I’m not suicidal.”

This Spin magazine coverstory meanders a bit and features that off-kilter Courtney Love that we are very familiar with but, I have to say, she comes off as much more coherent than she normally does in her My Space/Twitter/Facebook rants. Thru a filter, provided by a journalist, Courtney sounds pretty lucid. I can’t help but be curious to hear her new album … I’m deffo planning to give it a shot. In regards to losing custody of her daughter, well, Frances will turn 18 later on this year which will render the matter of parental custody moot. It’s prolly for the best that Frances takes control of her own life cuz leaving it in the hands of Courtney Love? Well … no. After the jump, check out a couple photos from Courtney’s Spin magazine photospread …

M.I.A Does ‘Spin’ Magazine

Pleasantly plump
Friday, November 21st, 2008

The very pregs musician/artist M.I.A. is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Spin magazine … showing off her colorful style and her burgeoning baby bump, in fine hipster-ess fashion:

Normally, I’m not a big fan of the crazy-colored lipstick but the colors really work on M.I.A., I think. She’s already so beautiful that I think the vivid colors really compliment the way she looks … normally, I am very unimpressed with hipster chic that tries too hard (multicolored nail polish, ironic ’80’s sunglasses, etc.) but, again, M.I.A. really has a way of makin’ the absurdity work:

I really love these pics … and I’m really happy to know that M.I.A. is not planning on retiring from music. I’m equally thrilled that she is going to be a mommy soon … she’s gonna be a rad mom, for sure. Let’s just hope that she doesn’t decide to give her kid a wacky baby name like some other famous folks, yes?
