Your Movie Is A ‘Wonderland’

Last night was yet another quiet night in as I found myself wrapped up in another triple feature of Disney animated films. As you may recall, earlier this week I watched Pinocchio, Dumbo and Fantasia all in one night and last night I decided to watch Bambi, Alice In Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty. For some reason, I’m all about re-watching as many Disney films as I can while reading a biography on the life of Walt Disney. David and I will be traveling next week for the rest of the month so I won’t have anytime to watch any thing so, I guess I’m just making the most of the free time I have at home while I still have it.

The Disney Princesses Get A Sexy Makeover

Last September we saw some pretty cool artwork that re-imagined the Disney Princesses as twisted, more sinister creatures … today we get to see some of those same princesses re-imagined as sexy comic book vixens. Here are a few illustrations created by Marvel Comics artist J. Scott Campbell that feature the Disney Princesses as you’ve never seen them before:

Dang, these ladies are hawt!! This sexy side of the Princesses reminds me of the artwork we saw last October of the sexy Disney Princes. If ever the Walt Disney company wanted to win new male fans, I think they be smart to hire Campbell to help them in that endeavor. These Disney Princesses are crazy sexy … which is kinda cool, no?

Tim Burton To Tell The Tale Of Maleficent

Exciting news to pass along to Tim Burton fans today, it is being reported that he is planning to do a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty from the point of view of villain Maleficent. I mean … how awesome does that sound?! Here are the deets as reported by Ain’t It Cool News:

Hey folks, Harry here with the coolest whisper I’ve heard in a while. I was chatting to a fella I know tonight, and this person heard that Tim Burton is developing another classic Disney fairy tale in a quasi Live Actiony kinda way. It seems that Tim has a hankering for SLEEPING BEAUTY… but not really… You see, he’s going to tell the story from Maleficent’s point of view. In fact, it’ll be called MALEFICENT.

She was always the most interesting character in that story, but we never knew why she hated those three little fairy wenches… or what indignity she suffered at the hands of Aurora’s parents. Yeah, I’m on board… if only it ends with Maleficent with a sword in her heart in dragon form. Cuz that’ll rule. Think about how long this plotline was carried out over. She has quite a tale to tell. Let’s see where it pops up in Burton’s filmography. We’re hearing that DARK SHADOWS is stumbling a bit… Let’s see what Tim does next, he has some interesting choices before him.

This sounds like fantastic news. I’ve already been very impressed with Burton‘s work with Disney thus far (I’m chomping at the bit to see his take on Alice in Wonderland) but for him to tell a classic Disney tale from the point of view of the villain, well, I am 1000% on board. The notion of this movie idea reminds me of the short story that Neil Gaiman wrote that tells the Snow White story from the point of view of the “evil queen”. Gaiman‘s story is titled Snow, Glass, Apples and can be read in its entirety HERE. If Tim Burton is able to do for Sleeping Beauty what Gaiman did for Snow White with his short story then I have no doubt that Burton‘s Maleficent will be a smash hit!

Walt Disney + No Clothing = Sexy Princes?

A couple of weeks ago we got to see a few really cool photos of Walt Disney Princesses lookin’ all dark and evil and today we get to see new and interesting photos of the Disney Princes created by David Kawena. Here are a few photos of some of the Disney Princes from the animated films Aladdin, Hercules, Sleeping Beauty (Prince Philip), The Little Mermaid (Prince Eric), Tarzan and Pocahontas (John Smith) wearing nothing but their undies:

LOL!! I thought the Twisted Princesses we saw before were pretty cool … but these Sexy Princes are even better!! But wait, there’s more!! After the jump, check out another batch of Sexy Princes from Beauty and the Beast (the human Beast and Gaston), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Phoebus) and Mulan (Shang) …

Zanessa bring the animated couple to life
Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens Portray Phillip & Aurora From Disney’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’

Back in January 2007, the Walt Disney company released the first photos from their Year of a Million Wishes campaign which featured celebrities portraying classic characters from Disney animated films in new photos shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. As you may recall, David Beckham was photographed as Prince Phillip from Disney‘s Sleeping Beauty, Scarlett Johansson was photographed as Cinderella and Beyoncé was photographed as Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Then in January of 2008, Disney released a whole batch of new photos from the campaign which featured celebs like Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony (who portrayed Princess Jasmine & Aladdin), Whoopi Goldberg (as Aladdin‘s Genie), Jessica Biel (as Pocahontas) and more. Later that same year, a new photo that featured Julianne Moore as Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Michael Phelps as a merman was released. Today, we get to see the latest photo from this Disney campaign … behold, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as Prince Phillip (the very same character Becks portrayed in the first batch of photos) and Princess Aurora/Briar-Rose from Disney‘s Sleeping Beauty:

While the pose is pretty cheesy (most likely because it’s got Zac Efron in it), the photo is beautiful. Leibovitz is such an amazing photographer, her photos are very, very cool. I suppose I get why Disney would select Zanessa to portray these characters but I’m actually surprised they’ve decided to milk the Sleeping Beauty movie for another photo when there are so many other films that have yet to be featured. Snow White?* Mulan? Mowgli from Jungle Book? I am happy to know that the campaign is still ongoing, especially since Disney‘s Year of a Million Dreams is long over. I wonder if we’ll be seeing more photos soon from the campaign? I guess we shall see.

*Pink reader Starkie reminds me that Rachel Weisz did portray Snow White in a photo of her own. Thanks!
