On Sunday we learned that Garbage has FINALLY announced the title of their new album (Not Your Kind of People) with the revamped relaunch of their official homepage at Garbage.com. Today we get to read a short interview that frontwoman Shirley Manson gave to The LA Times about the band’s upcoming new album, the final death of her solo album and her plans to LIVE LIFE to the FULLEST! It’s a short but very sweet interview … which you can read in full below.

Early last week we got our first listen of a tiny snippet of new music from the amazing band Garbage and today we get a couple more goodies from the band. As you may know, Garbage are in the process of readying the release of a new album and to do so they did their first band photoshoot together yesterday for the first time in 6 years. Last October Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson confirmed the recording of a new Garbage album as well as a forthcoming tour. Since that time, little hints have been popping up on the band’s official Facebook profile giving us glimpses into the recording process. Over the weekend, a photo of Shirley in the recording studio showed up on the site and today a short video clip with a snippet of new music was added. Check out both the photo and the video below.

Back in February Shirley Manson revealed on Facebook that her band Garbage had started recording new music together. In May the Scottish goddess revealed the she secretly got married to an American whose identity she refused to disclose. This week, Manson made an in-person appearance at University of the West of Scotland and not only confirmed that a new Garbage album is on the way but she also revealed the identity of her new hubby:

Scottish singer Shirley Manson showed off her new husband for the first time yesterday. Manson appeared alongside US record producer Billy Bush in Paisley to talk to students at the University of the West of Scotland. In May, she told TV host Craig Ferguson that she had wed an American at a secret ceremony in Las Vegas, but until yesterday she been coy about revealing her new spouse’s identity. Grammy-nominated Bush has worked with bands including Green Day, Limp Bizkit, Korn and Muse. Edinburgh-born Manson, 44, who was previously married to sculptor Eddie Farrell, also confirmed she was recording a new album with her band Garbage. “I’m working on a record right now with the band. We’ve recorded quite a lot but it’s difficult to quantify,” she said. “It’s the first one in a long time. I took about five years off. I’d like to do some touring next year.” She did not elaborate on the musical direction of the new album or when it would be released. “We’re just winging it right now,” she said. Rumours of a new release had been circulating since Manson hinted in February that she had been spending time in a recording studio. The couple were in Paisley to give career advice to commercial music students. The secret of success, Manson revealed, was for artists to talk through their disagreements – and share the proceeds. “When you get into a band, whether you are – the main writer or whatever – split the money equal ways. Then you will have a happy band. They are doing the same work as you.” Bush warned students that the road to musical success was long and hard. He said: “There’s two things you have to accept in this industry. One is poverty and the other is failure. There’s a huge element of failure.”

Hot damn! This is great news. I was encouraged by the news last February that Garbage was back in the recording studio … but there had been nary a peep from them since so I was starting to lose hope that a new album was coming. I am SO thrilled to learn that not only can we expect a new album but a tour as well. And now that we know who Shirley got married to, I think we can send the happy couple all our love and congrats one more time. Shirley Manson may not give us news all the time but when she does, it’s the best news ever. Wee! Any Garbage fans out there? Who’s excited for a new album?!

Congratulations are in order for singer/actress Shirley Manson (frontwoman of the amazing band Garbage) who revealed to Craig Ferguson on The Craig Ferguson Show last Friday night that she secretly got married to an American! As you may recall, Shirley has been spending her time lately working as a spokesmodel for Oliver Peoples Eyewear and recently confirmed not only that she’s been in the recording studio with her Garbage bandmates but that the band is talking about making a new album together. This news of a secret marriage is a bit of a surprise … here are the deets as she revealed them Friday night:

Former Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson has tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Los Angeles. Manson, who sparked rumors that she was engaged after spotted wearing a massive sparkler on her ring finger back in 2008, revealed about the marriage during her appearance on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on Friday, May 28. “I married an American, it’s fantastic. He’s not (a musician). I would never marry a musician,” Manson confirmed. She further revealed that the nuptial was held in a courthouse registry service and she and her husband skipped a honeymoon but preferred to stay in a hotel in Los Angeles. “It was very unromantic. We eloped and went to the L.A. courthouse and it was about as unromantic as you can get,” Manson explained. “It was so unromantic it was super hot. You just turn up (to the courthouse).” Manson, who was previously married to actor Eddie Farrell and got divorced in 2003, later said, “This is my second (marriage) which is why I decided not to do the traditional. We didn’t (have a honeymoon). We went and got drunk and did a stayover, which is when you stay in your city but you go to a hotel.” Back in 2008 when asked about the sparkler on her ring finger, the singer simply responded, “It’s a nice rock but I’ve decided not to talk about anything like that because it turns into a nightmare.” Meanwhile, Manson’s father, John, also insisted he would get into trouble if he spilled the beans. “All I can say is she is very happy. The two of them have been together for a while and things are going well,” John said. “They live in LA but they have been to visit and our whole family have met him.”

Man, I just love this woman. While news of her nuptials come as a bit of a surprise, I couldn’t be be more happier for Shirley and her new hubby. Ever since she teased that Garbage might begin work on a new album, I’ve been trying to keep an ear to the ground for any news. It sounds like Shirley may be a bit preoccupied with her new husband rather than a new album. Even still … I’ve always known that Garbage would release new music. While we may have to wait a bit longer, I know the music will come. In the meantime, enjoy the hubby, Shirley! Much love and congrats!!

Shirley Manson, my fave Oliver Peoples Eyewear spokesmodel du jour, is featured in the pages of the new issue of British Elle magazine. In her interview, Shirley teases that plans are in the works not only for her own solo album … but for the reformation of Garbage AND a short film of some sort. As you may recall, Shirley posted a message on her Facebook account alerting fans to the fact that she’s been in the studio with her Garbage bandmates … so her interview teases may actually come to fruition. Here is one of Shirley‘s Elle mag photos and some excerpts from her interview:

On the music bug: “I went to Coachella and for the first time I thought ‘OK I’m ready to do this again’, I got that burn-y feeling.”

On her recent tragedies: “When Mum became ill with dementia, it knocked the stuffing out of me. I didn’t want to make music anymore, didn’t feel creative, I could barely function.” [...] “Friends of mine lost their six-year old son to cancer last year and asked me to sing Life on Mars, at the memorial. We were all in so much pain but it meant so much to them that I could sing that song and so much to me that I was able to do something. It made me realize how music sustains people. I don’t know why I turned my back on it.”

On her future plans: “There is talk about doing my own record, reforming with Garbage and a short film too. Whether it’ll all come off, I don;t know. I’ve learnt in life that I need to take it one day at a time.”

On her body issues: “I used to get upset that I wasn’t pretty enough and I didn’t enjoy photo shoots. But when I watched myself on TV, I saw myself in a normal light and I’d aged. It came as a relief that I could accept who I was and where I was.”

On fear of aging: “I think that comes from fear of not having chances, not being able to live the life you want. But I believe if you’re an interesting person your life is not going to shrink. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m comfortable with getting older, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to be told that my life is over because I’m supposedly over the hill.”

On her latest music discoveries: “I’m crazy about Them Crooked Vultures, absolutely nuts about that record. I love the new Spinnerette record and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I’m crazy about Karen O. She’s one of the few women who’s come up in my generation who has genuinely thrilled me.”

OMG … LOVE this interview!! The thought of Shirley making music again just gets me all hot and bothered. Please, Shirley, make a solo album AND another Garbage album. Holy shizzballs, y’all!! Shirley Manson posted a new blogpost (inspired by Butch Vig‘s first Grammy Award win last night) on her official Facebook profile and in her (fairly lengthy) treatise she reveals that she recently spent a week in the recording studio with the other members of Garbage! OMFG!! Could this mean that new Garbage music may be on the way very soon? Here is the Garbage excerpt from her Facebook blogpost:

Guess who I just spent a week in the studio with? Would you be pleased if I said one of them was called Steve and one of them was called Duke and another was grammy winning producer [Butch Vig]?

Okay, seriously, this is AMAZING news!! I have long wished that Garbage would get back together to record another album … especially since Shirley‘s solo record never got released. Hopefully this “week in the studio” will really turn into a new collection of songs. As I mentioned above, Shirley was inspired to write this latest blogpost due to her Garbage partner Butch Vig winning his first Grammy Award last night.
