Shannen Doherty Steps Out Alone

The resurrected 90′s “It” Girl Shannen Doherty (who is trying to reclaim her fame from days of yore by appearing in the much-anticipated Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off set to debut on The CW Tuesday night) stepped out on the town in Malibu, CA again this weekend in the only pair of cut-off jeans shorts the girl apparently owns. Here are pics of Shannen as she made her way into and then out of one of her favorite eateries this weekend:

Shannen is also featured on the cover of the current issue of US Weekly magazine where she talks to the mag about Tori Spelling‘s lies … and not much else:

Fourteen years after leaving her career-defining role of Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210, Shannen Doherty is finally sharing her side of the story to refute the “bad girl” label and set the record straight in the latest issue of Us Weekly, available now. Among the revelations: Doherty, who will reprise her character in four episodes of the CW’s 90210 revamp, denies a claim by Tori Spelling that she once got into a fistfight with Jennie Garth. “We never did,” Doherty, 37, tells Us. “I think I would remember Jennie’s fist connecting with a part of my body or a part of my face. It just goes to show you how people will lie,” she says of Spelling’s account in her autobiography.

I managed to peruse his issue of US Weekly at the bookstore this weekend and I read the entirety of Shannen‘s interview … she got real pissy with the interviewer when asked if she would ever write a tell-all memoir and then was she was asked about any romance that she witnessed on the BH, 90210 set. Apparently, Shannen is no snitch and she’ll cut you if you ask her to spill. OOOOH man, I want Tori Spelling to join the new 90210 so bad now … I’m sure Shannen would like us to believe that she’s all grown up and mature now but I bet you any money if she came face to face with Tori Spelling something AWESOME would happen. I hope we get to find out.

Back to School
Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth Do ‘Entertainment Weekly’

Former on and off-screen friends/rivals/enemies Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth have, apparently, buried the hatchet and grown into maturity … at least, that’s the way it seems to have turned out now that the ladies are working together again, co-starring on the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off series that will debut on The CW next Tuesday, 09.02. Shannen and Jennie are both featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine … here is their cover photo and some excerpts from their joint interview with the mag:

EW: Did you ever think the two of you would be sitting here talking about playing Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor again?

Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty: [In unison] No.

Garth: I thought [Beverly Hills, 90210] had a beginning, middle, and an end. It was very neatly in its coffin and it was done. When they told me they were doing it, I thought: No! Like something sort of sacred was being disrupted. Some part of who I was and a piece of my history was being messed with. It took me a while to settle into that idea.

Doherty: Early on, my publicist got a call asking her “Would she do it?” I was kind of like, Why would I play Brenda Walsh again? There was an “I Hate Brenda” newsletter. Why would I possibly get myself back into that? I think it was too scary for me. I didn’t want to go back to people hating me. It just wasn’t something that I considered for a good chunk of time. At some point it hit me that this is what the fans wanted. They put a roof over my head. They allow me to eat and to feed my dogs. The only reason I survive is because of them. If there’s one way to possibly say thank you, it is to go back and play a character that you never even liked yourself.

EW: You didn’t like Brenda?

Doherty: There were parts of Brenda I loved. They just took her in a really odd direction that I didn’t necessarily agree with at the time. I still kind of look back and think, Eh, it’s not what I would have done, but I understand. Every show has to have that character full of teenage angst and drama. I think she was driven by insecurity that was at the root of everything.

EW: The other day you had your first scene together in 14 years. When did you last see each other before the scene and what was it like shooting together again?

Doherty: [Laughs] Oh, God. When was it? Ten years ago? I don’t know. A long time. I can only speak for myself, but being with someone I knew made it easier for me my first day on set. At least for me there was an appreciation that we’d been through the first 90210 together and now we’re going through it again, but in such a different way because we’re both adults now. The only weird thing was while we were trying to catch up everyone was watching us. Every single eyeball was on us. I don’t know what they were expecting. I was more interested in talking to her about Dancing With the Stars. I thought she did an amazing job.

Garth: There had been so much buildup. Everyone was asking me before what it was going to be like. I was like, “I don’t know. I haven’t talked to her in 10 or 15 years.” I had that tension and I started to let it get to me. Is she going to be nice? Is it going to be a bad environment? But when I saw her everything was fine. [To Shannen] I was going to call you and tell you this—I got your number from Gabe but I never called. I felt a certain comfort too in having you there and I did not think I would feel that way. It was at some point around 2 a.m., and I felt like it’s so nice to have someone here who is a partner, someone who knew where we’d been and what it was like with the real show.

Doherty: I think when you’re 18, your personalities conflict, and then you meet up 10 or 15 years later and the playing ground is totally different and you’re fine. Like Jennie said, of course there were nerves going in. But half of it was the buildup everyone else put on it. When I was driving to the set I was getting phone calls, and I finally turned my phone off because I thought, I have to go in there with a completely fresh attitude and start over and give everybody a chance and everybody has to give me a chance. Once I was able to turn all of that off, the first moment I saw her it was like, Okay, this is going to be good. It was like, “Hey.” Then a hug. It’s like going to a war together. You’ve already been in the trenches together. You learned so much from that first war. That second war, you know what you need to do to make the set the most peaceful environment you can possibly have.

EW: Okay, but back to the fistfight: fact or fiction?

Garth: I don’t think we ever hit each other.

Doherty: We had our moments.

Garth: I just remember being outside and the boys having to try to settle us down.

Doherty: No, we never punched each other.

Garth: Scratching? I’m not going to deny that.

OMG! Love. It! I think it’s neat that the girls are all chummy-chummy again … and I love that they are finally talking about the drama from the old days (something they never did publicly back in the day) before new drama has a chance to spring up (scratching?! love it love it love it). There may have not been any punches thrown last time but who knows what might happen if the girls start misbehaving again. After the jump, find out what Shannen thought about her portrayal in Tori Spelling‘s book sTORI Telling and check out a few photos (and video) from Shannen and Jennie‘s EW photoshoot …

A toast to the much-anticipated 'Beverly Hills, 90210' spin-off
’90210’ Premieres In Malibu, CA

Beverly Hills, 90210 alums Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth joined the new crop of 90210 kids at a premiere event in Malibu, CA for the new CW spin-off which is set to debut on 09.02. It’s almost time y’all … we’re just days away from finding out if the new 90210 can live up to the hype and expectation of the stunning success of its predecessor … but for now, it’s just time to party. Here are a few pics from the event’s red carpet event last night:

Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth joined the cast of CW’s 90210 spin-off Saturday at a beachside bash to celebrate the show. The party took place on the Malibu shore – about 20 miles away from the Beverly Hills zip code, the AP reports. Doherty and Garth, who will reprise their roles as Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor in the new show, arrived separately. Joe E. Tata, who played Peach Pit owner Nat, also attended. Party guests expecting to get a glimpse of the show’s first episode were out of luck: The premiere was not screened. (The CW recently announced pre-broadcast copies of the series would not be distributed to TV reviewers and reporters as a “strategic marketing decision.”) Meanwhile, Garth recently said reuniting with Doherty (with whom she once got into a fistfight) wasn’t “as bad as I thought it would be. We’re both grown women, both professionals,” she told TV Guide. “Once we were working, it felt like a good fit.”

Tori Spelling, who continues to get the shaft from the new 90210 was, obvs, not in attendance at last night’s affair. Again, I’m excited at the prospect of the new show but I fear that expectations may be too high. I understand why the show’s producers are keeping the first ep under wraps until the series premieres next week but … I dunno, can it really live up to the hype? There are a lot of fond memories about the original show … I dunno if anything can really measure up.

Someone wants to reclaim her youth
Shannen Doherty Tries To Become A Hollywood ‘It’ Girl … Again

Shannen Doherty, in a pair of super short cut-off jean shorts, tried to feign annoyance when she was photographed making her exit from the übertrendy Green Door nightclub Saturday night but you just know that she was giddily excited on the inside that she is, after all these years, back on the pop culture radar:

Methinks that Shannen is making a play to reclaim some of that long-gone fame that she reveled in in the early to mid 90′s. If she’s smart, she’s gonna milk her newfound stardom from her upcoming stint on the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off as much as she can … after all, it may not last. Just a few notes … first, she needs to hang out with the cool kids (if any of them will have her) and second, she needs to lay off the fading fashion trends (the bootie shoes she’s wearing are so yesterday, no?). This could be her final chance for Hollywood “It” Girldom — do y’all think she can make another go of it?

The first images of Brenda & Kelly on the new 'Beverly Hills, 90210' spin-off
Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth Back In ’90210’

Here are the first images/video of Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth back in their respective roles as Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor in a new promo video for the new CW series 90210. Here are a few screencaps from the just-released promo vid:

We loved her as Brenda Walsh in the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” now Shannen Doherty’s back for multiple episodes of The CW’s spin-off, “90210,” including the two-hour premiere on Tuesday, September 2 at 8 p.m. — and ET has your first look at scenes from the debut night! In the episode, West Beverly Hills High School has approached Brenda — last seen headed to London to study acting — to return to her alma mater as a guest director for the school’s musical production. “90210″ is the story of the Wilson family. Rob Estes plays Harry, husband to Debbie (Lori Loughlin) and son to Tabitha (Jessica Walter). He signs on as the principal of West Beverly High, his alma mater, after he moves his family from Kansas back to Beverly Hills to take care of his aging alcoholic mother.

Wee! These new images are very exciting … just when my interest in the new 90210 was starting to wane (especially after all the bullshizz about contract money talk) they go ahead and release a video like this to yank me back in ;) After the jump, check out this 90210 promo video in full (be warned, the video autoplays) …

The '90210' elders comment on Tori Spelling
Jennie Garth ‘Bummed’, Shannen Doherty Speaks

Entertainment Weekly caught up with Jennie Garth (Kelly Taylor) and Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh) this week to get their take on the news that Tori Spelling has pulled out of appearing on the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off for The CW. Jennie, who will be reprising her role as Kelly Taylor on 90210, revealed that while she is “bummed” that Tori won’t be reprising her role as Donna Martin on the show (thus far, that is) and she maintains that she is “not at war” over salary with Tori … I bet Shannen, who will be reprising her role as Brenda Walsh, was just happy to be asked for a comment:

For those Beverly Hills, 90210 fans out there who were crushed by recent online reports that Tori Spelling will not be appearing on The CW’s new 90210 reboot this fall, take heart — Jennie Garth feels your pain. The star, who will reprise her role as Kelly Taylor on 90210 this fall, tells EW.com that she was disappointed by online reports that Spelling dropped out of The CW series after not being offered the same amount of money as Garth and fellow former co-star Shannen Doherty. “[The press thinks] we’re at war over salary with Tori. I didn’t know I was at war with Tori,” Garth told EW.com. “I’m really bummed because I love Tori and I was psyched Tori was going to be on the show. I think she should definitely get paid as much as either of us is getting paid. Her father created the show. It just seems wrong if that’s the case. I don’t know what really happened because I haven’t talked to her. I would like to talk to her.” Doherty adds that she isn’t taking the deadlinehollywooddaily.com report about Spelling’s salary dispute — which claimed Garth and Doherty were being paid “$35,000-$50,000″ per episode versus Spelling’s proposed salary of “$10,000-$20,000″ per episode — at face value. “They didn’t even get the numbers right,” says the actress, who will reprise her role as Brenda Walsh on The CW’s drama, “so I don’t know if it’s about the money either.” Whatever the case, Garth hopes the door isn’t closed on Donna Martin’s return: “I’ll try to butt my head in whenever I can and tell people what I think about it.”

HMMMM … could this possibly just be a case of building more buzz for the show? Everyone knows that there were feuds amongst the ladies back when Beverly Hills, 90210 was on the air … could all of this money/feud talk just be a way to drum up even more promo buzz for the show? Who here thinks that the issue will eventually be resolved and Tori Spelling will end up appearing on 90210? I think that is a very likely outcome.

With a new dude in tow
Shannen Doerhty Steps Back On The Scene

Now that Shannen Doherty has wisely agreed to be a special guest star on the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off series for The CW this Fall, the paparazzi are taking notice of her more and are going out of their way to snap new photos of the lass. Unfortch for Shannen, she is not used to the attention (since she’s been out of the limelight for eons now) and tried to complain to the Malibu police that she is being harassed (in an incident that occurred last weekend) … sadly, tho, the police officers she spoke with had no idea who she was. In any event, Shannen continues to soldier on and brave the unwanted attention nonetheless … here are new pics of Shannen out for dinner with a male companion at Nobu in Malibu this weekend:

That new “90210″ show can’t come along fast enough for Shannen Doherty. We know Shannen went to the Sheriff’s Department in Lost Hills (Malibu) to complain about paparazzi following her. The cops who talked to her were baffled … because they had no idea who she was. The deputy at the front desk confessed he had no idea who she was. Shannen retorted that she was on TV. The deputy, in a scene reminiscent of “Take the Money and Run,” began asking others around him if they knew who she was, but none did. We’re told Shannen then left in a huff.

OMG … I bet poor Shannen was mor-ti-fied at this embarrassing mistreatment … but on the other hand, it’s funny as hell. When last we saw Shannen out and about in public around these here parts, ’twas back in March when she was seen emerging from Nobu in Malibu with her former Charmed castmate Holly Marie Combs — either Shannen really, really, really likes the food there or she doesn’t really mind the crush of paparazzi attention since it’s very common knowledge that the paps are pretty much stationed at Nobu on a daily basis since the Malibu celebs like to eat there a lot. Oh Shannen, it is amazing to have you back :)

Tori Spelling will be along shortly
Shannen Doherty And Jennie Garth Return To ‘90210’

And the news just keeps on getting better … yesterday, we heard the first amazing news that Shannen Doherty was “in talks” to reprise her role as Brenda Walsh on the upcoming Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off show set to debut on The CW this Fall … and today, according to E!‘s Watch with Kristin, not only is Shannen totally on board to appear on the show but that Jennie Garth (who played Kelly Taylor on BH, 90210) may be on board to appear with Shannen on screentogether! You may recall that Jennie Garth has already officially signed on to appear on 90210 as the guidance counselor at West Beverly High. It was previously announced that Tori Spelling would be reprising her role as Donna Martin on 90210 but, because she *just* gave birth to her baby a few weeks ago, will have to delay her debut on the show a little further into the season (Tori is insistent that she will appear on the show, adamantly speaking to People magazine so that folks don’t count her out in all the hoopla about Shannen‘s return to the show). But still … all three ladies will eventually return to 90210!

If you’re a fan of the OG Peach Pit posse, you might want to sit down, ’cause sources connected to the CW’s new 90210 are spilling exclusive dish of OMG proportions. In a nutshell: Shannen Doherty is in, Tori Spelling is out and Jennie Garth may be—wait for it—reuniting with Shannen on the screen … After EW.com’s Michael Ausiello first reported the news that Shannen is in talks, a very reliable and very inside source who works on 90210 tells me exclusively that “It is happening with Shannen. It’s just a question of how long she’ll shoot, whether it will be one day or ten, and what the storyline will be, but we are working on it and it is a very real thing.” Inside sources also confirm exclusively that Tori will not be appear in the season premiere as planned because of personal reasons—like she just gave birth to a baby girl on June 9. The new mom had been signed on to do a few episodes at the beginning of the season, but she isn’t yet ready to return to work, so her appearance has been pushed to a later date. As for Shannen’s storyline, I’m told the details are still in the initial-concept stages, but the writers are hoping to get Shannen and Jennie together, onscreen, for a scene … Of course, the real question is, will they do it? “I don’t think there’s any love lost between Shannen and Jennie,” says one rock-solid inside source. “But they are both adults now and professionals, and I don’t see it being an issue. Everyone has their take on what happened back in the day, and I think the feeling is that it’s time to move on. They were 19 and 20 when all of that happened and a lot has changed. And, you know, they’re not moving in together, just shooting together for an hour and a half.” Another insider close to the negotiations points out: “I want to stress that Shannen has been very, very cool through this whole process. We have seen nothing like the behavior for which she was once famous for.”

As for Tori Spelling, well, she doesn’t want anyone to forget that altho she wasn’t the first of the ladies to have her name attached to 90210 she wants everyone to know that she did sign on BEFORE Shannen Doherty did and she’s TOTES coming back and we can just blame her new baby for causing the delay … don’t forget that:

Tori Spelling was scheduled to appear in the pilot of The CW’s 90210 spinoff, but it looks like reprising her role as Donna Martin will have to wait. “I’m looking forward to returning to 90210 in a later episode,” Spelling, 35, tells PEOPLE exclusively, “but I just had my baby three weeks ago via C-section. So right now I have to focus on recuperating, and my first priority is my family.”

It’s very exciting knowing that Kelly, Brenda and Donna will be appearing together again on the small screen. I am fairly certain that there won’t be the same drama between these ladies that existed all those years ago. Surely they’ve all grown up … surely they can let bygones be bygones. This is the best news for the new 90210 show. I’m totally amped for the show’s debut. It’s a terrible shame that Gabrielle Carteris is suffering from her recent injury otherwise I’m sure we’d be seeing Andrea Zuckerman on the new show as well. Even still, this is all very good news. Woot!

Holy Shizz! Holy Shizz! Holy Shizz! Holy Shizz!
Shannen Doherty In Talks To Return To ’90210’

Ye Gods! There is some great news going around today concerning the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off (which apparently took my advice and decided to go with the name 90210) and the possibility of another BH, 90210 alumna reprising their role on the new show. Michael Ausiello (formerly of TV Guide, now with Entertainment Weekly) is reporting that the EFFING AWESOME Shannen Doherty is in talks to reprise her role of Brenda Walsh on the new spin-off … which would kinda complete my life:

Those of you who know me know that nothing brings me more happiness than a good, old-fashioned Shannen Doherty item. So it seems only fitting that I should kick off my new EW gig with a juicy yarn about the legendary Hollywood hellraiser. And it’s not just any yarn, either — it’s the best yarn ever! Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that Doherty is currently engaged in formal talks to — wait for it, wait for it — reprise her role of Brenda Walsh on The CW’s breathlessly anticipated 90210 update! According to my Peach Pit mole, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the producers behind el nuevo 90210, recently met with the tempestuous tabloid mainstay to gauge her interest in returning to the zip code from which she was banished in 1994. And by all accounts, she is interested. “But,” whispers an insider with close ties to the reboot, “she wants to know what the story is going to be first.” She also wants more money than they’re apparently offering. Yet creative/financial issues may not be the biggest obstacles standing in the way of Doherty’s homecoming. The anger-management poster gal has left a long list of enemies in her wake, among them once and possibly future co-stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth. Doherty and Garth, in particular, got along so badly, they were like a ’90s version of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. (A fistfight between them was even chronicled in Spelling’s recent memoir.) So while Doherty’s willingness to return suggests she’s ready to let bygones be bygones, the feeling may not be mutual. “There’s still some animosity there,” acknowledges a source, who says Garth wasn’t exactly jumping for joy upon learning of Doherty’s potential hiring. However, counters Garth, “A lot of time has passed, and I’m a big girl. I’d have no problem with her coming on the show.” That still doesn’t resolve the pesky issue of Doherty’s less-than-stellar rep. “They should demand good behavior and get rid of her quick if they don’t get it,” muses one top TV producer. “The danger is that the show becomes a big hit, and her participation is seen as essential. If that happens, and she’s still a disruptive, dysfunctional actor, then they’ve got a big mess.” But nearly everyone seems to agree on one thing: It’s a risk worth taking. “This is a win-win for all parties,” points out a 90210 source. “Shannen has a shot to get back in the public eye and make things right with the show that gave her her career, and the CW can generate some much-needed buzz and guarantee some major sampling of 90210.”

Insert Happy Dance [HERE]. The bottom line is that they better work out the deal with her … having Shannen Doherty on the show, bad girl or not, would automatically lend weight to the project and would stir up the kind of buzz that both Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth combined can’t generate. If Shannen signs on, I’m there … absolutely and entirely on board. What awesome, awesome news :)
