A Second Helping Of ‘Sex’

Last night I met up with my good friend Josh and his BFF Essley for a night at the movies … because Josh was so sweet to come with us to see The A-Team on Friday night (a movie that he had ZERO interest in seeing), I wanted to accompany him to see Sex and the City 2 (which I already saw but really wanted to see again):

I have to say, I think I enjoyed the film a lot more the second time around. Because the audience was not screaming and howling at every other word uttered, I was able to pay attention and listen more closely. Sure the film has it’s flaws, but I really loved it again!

I’m seeing another movie tonight with friends … it looks like The Turtle Party: Book Club is turning into The Turtle Party: Movie Club for 2010 … and our first film will be The Human Centipede. If you are unfamiliar with the film, check out the trailer HERE but BE WARNED … this horror film is NOT for the faint of heart.

I hope your weekend is totally fabulous … Happy Sunday!

‘Sex And The City 2’ Premieres In Tokyo, Japan

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall were all on hand over the weekend to appear at the Tokyo, Japan premiere of their new film Sex and the City 2 (which beat Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at the box office here in the US) … and the ladies were lookin’ completely fabulous at the event. Here are a few photos from this weekends SaTC soiree in Japan:

Despite a few negative reviews of the film, I think fans of the series (and, more importantly, of the characters) have been loving the film … and now it’s the Japanese fans’ turn to enjoy Sex and the City 2. I’m not entirely certain but I think this may be one of the last stops on the SaTC ladies’ world tour to promote the film. Last January there was a report going around that plans to film a third SaTC movie might go into production very soon after the release of SaTC 2. Because the lovely ladies aren’t getting any younger, it makes sense that they would want to get to work on a third (and final?) film. But, considering how rough the reviews have been, I understand they might put the kibosh on plans for a third movie altogether. I, personally, would LOVE to see another movie … so long as they work a bit on the story. Let the ladies stay in NYC and do what they do best … that’s what needs to happen if another movie is made. What do y’all think … should the powers that be move forward with another Sex and the City movie or should they put the entire franchise to bed and end it right now?

Decadent ‘Sex’ Is Fun

Last night David and I attended an early screening of Sex and the City 2 at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood after we toasted the night with Moët & Chandon at a preparty event at Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum. The whole night was just crazy fun … especially since we got to celebrate with a bunch of really fun folks. While SaTC 2 is getting some pretty negative reviews, I have to say that I enjoyed the film very much and cannot wait to see the film again:

Now, the movie isn’t perfect … I wasn’t too keen on how the movie felt fairly disjointed and lacked a sense of flow for the better part of the 2 1/2 hours run time. What the film lacked in cohesiveness, it more than made up for in opulent fun. Some reviewers take issue with the level of decadence and “vapidness” they claim is in the film … but I completely disagree. This film seems to me like a lavish “action film” for women. If you consider that most Summer blockbuster films are rife with garish explosions, blood and extreme violence (which reviewers often have no problem praising), then a film like SaTC 2 should be able to feature garish luxury, bling and extreme opulence. The movie is a fantasy … it’s fun. I think producers were kind of asking for trouble by setting a movie like Sex and the City in the Middle East (where sex isn’t really openly celebrated) but I found it kind of fun to see these characters we know and love operating in unfamiliar territory. That being said, I contend that the first Sex and the City film was much, much better than this sequel but — then again — not many sequels tend to surpass the original films. I think if you let yourself go and just enjoy the ride the Sex and the City 2 can be lots of fun (imbibing a bottle or 2 of Moët & Chandon champagne can’t hurt either). I am looking forward to seeing SaTC 2 again … and prolly repeatedly. It’s just fun.

Much love and thanks goes out to Isandra from Moët & Chandon for taking such amazing care of us last night:

We had a blast and we love the Clinique goodies that were stashed in the fun giftbags, thank you so much!! Last night was even more fun because we got to hang out with new friend Wynter and her peeps and old friend Andrew who I haven’t seen in ages. I hope we all get to hang out again soon … last night was just way too fun :)

Tonight, I’m having dinner with Darion to do an early celebration for his birthday tomorrow! It’ll be really fun to just hang out the two of us. I hope your Thursday is treating you well!!

A Toast To ‘Sex And The City 2’

Unfortunately, I did not make it out to see Band of Horses last night at The Roxy due to an ill-timed stomach ache that struck around 7pm … I thought I could rally in time to see the show but, alas, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. But, things will be much different tonight because I have every intention of attending an early screening of Sex and the City 2 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater tonight. Hosted by champagne giant Moët & Chandon, SaTC2 will screen tonight around 7pm with an champagne afterparty to follow:

Tonight’s screening promises to be a fabulous event … I am SO excited. Remember, Sex and the City 2 opens in theaters tonight at midnight so if you’re as anxious as I am to see the film, you don’t have much longer to wait. Wee!!

‘Sex And The City 2’ Premieres In NYC

Last night in NYC Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis were joined by a host of other celebs for the premiere of their new film Sex and the City 2. The lavish event, which took place at Radio City Music Hall, managed to attract a horde of screaming fans who were anxious to get a look at the fabulously stylish stars on the red carpet. Here are a few photos from the SaTC 2 premiere in NYC last night along with some deets from the event:

Monday night in Manhattan marked a milestone for many New York women, with the premiere of the most-anticipated chick flick of the season, “Sex and the City 2.” Outside Radio City Music Hall, thousands of women braved a muggy city evening during rush hour. Sandwiched against police barricades, fans formed a veritable sorority as they sweat through their foundation and mascara, chanting “Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda!” over the din of honking taxicabs. When the leading ladies, Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes), Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones) and Kirstin Davis (Charlotte York) actually appeared, Parker, dressed in a whimsical neon-yellow colored gown, walked boldly away from the red carpet toward her public, embracing women who pleaded for autographs. “It’s almost like she’s Jesus,” one reporter said, laughing, as the press looked on, transfixed. Later, when Parker, Nixon and Cattrall bypassed most of the media, waving apologetically, reporters grimaced. Thankfully, unlike their female co-stars, the leading men in the movie took the time to dish on what fans can expect from the sequel. David Eigenberg, who plays Steve, Miranda’s husband, revealed his character’s opinion of his onscreen spouse. “Miranda [is] kind of bossy. She kind of busts my chops. … But she’s good in the bed, you know,” Eigenberg told ABCNews.com. Eigenberg also admitted that he doesn’t relate to his character, Steve, at all. “I’m a lot meaner and stupider than he is,” he said … John Corbett, who plays Aiden, Carrie’s former fiance, whom she encounters in the new movie while vacationing with the girls in Abu Dhabi, emphasized the movie’s surprising merits for men. “I always thought that this show was just for the women. There’s a lot to learn if you just pick up a Cosmopolitan once in a while. … It’s like a guide. This movie acts in the same way. All you got to do is pick up some popcorn and some coke, and you’ll pick up some tips if you’re interested,” Corbettt told ABCNews.com. Jason Lewis, who plays Smith Jerrod, Samantha’s hunky ex-boyfriend, hinted that his character will also appear in Abu Dhabi. “The travel and location was amazing,” he said, beaming. “Oh, and you know, it’s a horrible thing being surrounded by pretty women,” Lewis joked. Chris Noth, who plays Carrie”s husband, John Preston — aka Big — looked suave and debonair in a black tuxedo. In the sequel, Big and Carrie are rumored to have marital problems. On the red carpet, Noth didn’t really kiss and tell about the plot, saying the movie is about “grappling with the traditions” … Unlike many of her female co-stars, Kristin Davis did take the time to summarize the movie, calling it “a fun romp.” Dressed in a bright-pink gown, Davis also dispelled frequent rumors of offscreen cattiness among the four women. “All four of us were together for most of the time off camera. We had a very similar situation to what they had in the movie but with less controversy,” Davis said.

OMG, this looks so fun! The SaTC folks always save the biggest premiere for NYC, for obvious reasons, but I am really looking forward to the LA preview screening that will be taking place at Grauman’s Chinese Theater tomorrow night. The event, hosted by Moët & Chandon, will show the film first before taking the party to the new Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum on Hollywood Blvd. (insert your own joke here) for a bubbly afterparty. I am SO excited for that event because David and I have been invited to attend :) I’ve been really looking to SaTC 2 since we heard the movie was greenlit for production … it doesn’t seem like all that long ago that we saw the first photos from the set and now … the film has already enjoyed its first premiere. I’ve been staying as far away from movie spoilers as possible (mainly because I feel I already know too much about the plot from the released movie trailers) and I’ve refrained from reading any reviews so I can enjoy the film unencumbered by other opinions. I know there will be quite a few of you making your way to movie theaters this Thursday for the release of Sex and the City 2! Who’s excited?!

Michael Patrick King re-imagines the 'SaTC' ladies as ... babies
The ‘Sex And The City’ Ladies Do ‘Entertainment Weekly’ Magazine

The sexy actresses who star in the upcoming sequel film Sex and the City 2 — namely Sarah Jessica Parker (as Carrie Bradshaw), Kim Cattrall (as Samantha Jones), Cynthia Nixon (as Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (as Charlotte Yorke-Goldenblatt) — are featured on the cover and in the pages of this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine. In the mag, SaTC director/writer Michael Patrick King shares a couple of fictional screenplays where he re-imagines the ladies in different settings, as different characters. Here are a few photos of the SaTC ladies in the pages of this week’s EW magazine and a cute fictional screenplay (written by MPK) that (oddly, yet funnily) re-imagines Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte as babies:

Ever wonder what Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha were like when they wore Pampers instead of Prada? You’re in luck! The writer-director behind the SATC movies offers this ”screenplay” featuring tiny versions of the fab foursome.

SEX AND THE CITY 2: THE PREQUEL
EXT. ”HAPPY BABY DAY CARE CENTER” — DAY

The sun is shining.

INT. HAPPY BABY DAY CARE CENTER

A room full of 2-year-old babies playing. Cheery walls, colorful children’s artwork on display. On a pink play mat in the corner of the room sit: BABY CARRIE, BABY CHARLOTTE, BABY MIRANDA, and BABY SAMANTHA…who is happily sucking on her bottle.

BABY SAMANTHA Hmmm. Hmmm. Hmmm. Hmmm.

BABY CARRIE We get it. You like milk.

BABY SAMANTHA Nonfat, low-fat, skim milk, whole milk, buttermilk…

BABY CHARLOTTE Buttermilk. Ewwww.

BABY SAMANTHA Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

Baby Carrie glances over at Baby Miranda, who is looking sad.

BABY CARRIE What’s happening over there, Miranda?

BABY MIRANDA The day-care man never picks me up.

BABY CARRIE That’s not true. I’ve seen him pick you up.

BABY MIRANDA Once. And only when he had to ’cause I made a doodie in my pants.

BABY SAMANTHA Well — be more aggressive. Spit up on him. It works for me.

BABY CHARLOTTE I’m saving my spit-up for a really handsome day-care worker.

BABY MIRANDA Shhh — here he comes.

A HANDSOME MALE DAY CARE WORKER approaches them — seen only from the knees down.

BABY CARRIE (VOICE-OVER) As we watched the day-care worker approach, I couldn’t help but wonder — is any man really worth spitting up for?

The man puts a very cute, dark-haired LITTLE BOY on the play mat next to Carrie. The little boy looks at Carrie — his eyes twinkle.

BABY CARRIE (V.O.) And that’s when I saw him for the first time…Mr. Little.

Baby Carrie spits up on herself. Still adorable.

LOL!! This is cute but … weird. For more fun like this, click HERE to read Michael Patrick King‘s re-imagining of Sex and the City as a film-noir-inspired murder-mystery (random, I know). MPK also wrote a SaTC screenplay as a postapocalyptic sci-fi thriller set in 2040.

Photoshop of Horrors!
‘Sex And The City 2’ Releases A 3rd Promo Poster

My friends, my comrades, my compatriots … please forgive me for what I am about to show you. The folks promoting Sex and the City 2 have released a third movie poster which, on the positive side, features all of the SaTC ladies (not just Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw). On the negative side, the ladies appear to be Photoshopped TO DEATH in this new poster … which words cannot even describe:

I mean … this looks pretty bad. If I were Kim Cattrall (who plays the blonde Samantha Jones), I’d sue! They didn’t even use her face in this poster! It’s just … terrible. I’m really stunned that shoddy retouching like this was able to pass muster and be OKed for release of a movie of this magnitude. I am still very excited to see the film but if this is the type of workmanship that is being applied to other promo materials, I don’t think I need to see any other posters. This one will haunt my nightmares just fine. Yikes!

Photoshopping friends together
The Ladies Of ‘Sex And The City 2’ Do ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ Magazine

Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall are all featured on the cover of the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar Japan magazine to promote their upcoming sequel film Sex and the City 2 (due out in theaters here in the US on May 30). Tho, if you look closely, you can kinda tell that the ladies were not photographed together for the cover … it appears they were actually Photoshopped together in post-production:

I find it a bit odd that the SaTC ladies couldn’t get together to pose for a real magazine cover (especially with a new film to promote) but this isn’t the first time the ladies have pulled stuff like this. They are notorious for never posing for photos together for shoots like these. They each pose on their own and let the Photoshoppers do the rest. They each look very lovely tho (well, save for Ms. Cattrall … what is going on with her head?) but this doesn’t seem like a magazine that I feel I’d need to pick up.

Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Liz Minelli & the 'SaTC' ladies feature on the album
First Look: ‘Sex And The City 2’ The Soundtrack

Marc Malkin from E! News brings us our first look at the album artwork for the soundtrack to Sex and the City 2 (due out in theaters next month) as well a bunch of great news about what is included on the disc. Not only have some of the most exciting musical performers recorded songs for the album but so, too, have the Sex and the City ladies themselves … Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis! Here is what the album art looks like and the deets about this must-own soundtrack:

Sex and the City has never sounded better. If the trailers for the SATC sequel weren’t enough to drive us bonkers with anticipation for the movie to open next month, wait till you hear the soundtrack … It is full of music superstars and even a handful of original tunes …Alicia Keys performs a cover of Blondie’s 1980s classic “Rapture.” And it’s not just any cover, it’s a mash-up with the iconic Sex and the City theme song that’s played during the movie’s opening theme … “Rapture” and the SATC theme go together like a frosty cosmo and a pair of Manolo Blahniks. It just feels and sounds so right. Soundtrack label WaterTower Music honcho Jason Linn tells me über-producer Salaam Remi had Keys in mind when he created the mix. “We’re so fortunate to have her,” Linn said. “She’s the perfect voice to introduce the…music of Sex and the City 2.” Next up is the return of Jennifer Hudson. Nope, the Oscar winner is not reprising her role as Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant, but she is back in song. She and Brit songbird Leona Lewis duet on an original ballad written for the movie called “Love Is Your Color” … Even the stars of the movie are on the soundtrack with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon performing the Helen Reddy karaoke favorite, “I Am Woman.” As you may have already heard, Liza Minnelli covers Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” as well as a new rendition of Cole Porter’s “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye.” The soundtrack, which also has new music from Dido and Cee Lo, will be released on May 25, just two days before SATC hits theaters.

What a great soundtrack … I mean, Liza singing Beyoncé‘s Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)? Are you kidding me? Brilliant. I also love that Jennifer Hudson is contributing a new song for the soundtrack as well … the whole damn thing sounds amazing. While I’m a wee bit bummed that this soundtrack news had to spill the secret of which karaoke song the SaTC ladies perform in the film, I’m happy to know that it will be included on the soundtrack. I cannot wait to get my hands on this album … but make no mistake, my real excitement is for the film! May 27, get here NOW please!

Never fear, no spoilers here
‘Sex And The City 2’ Releases A Newer Batch Of Promo Photos

Last week the second Sex and the City 2 movie trailer was released and earlier this week we got to see the second SaTC 2 movie poster … today we get to see a new batch of promo photos from the film. Now, I was hesitant to even look at these photos when I came upon them (for fear that seeing any more promo materials might ruin my enjoyment of the film before I even get to see it) but happily discovered that they are not at all plot spoilery. Considering how the movie posters for the film are very Carrie Bradshaw centric, I thought it would be nice to see photos of the other SaTC ladies as well … check ‘em out:

Carrie Bradshaw’s new adventure has been highlighted in a bunch of new pictures from “Sex and the City 2″ … Most of the stills show Sarah Jessica Parker’s character and her friends having great time as they arrive in Abu Dhabi. In addition to the images which give preview to their journey in the sandy country, there are also photos which feature the ladies in New York City. One particular picture, meanwhile, captures Carrie having a conversation with Chris Noth’s Mr. Big. Official synopsis for the forthcoming movie has not been released … Set two years after the end of the first film, “Sex and the City 2″ has Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis returning to reprise their respective roles. Penelope Cruz and Miley Cyrus also make cameo appearances in the drama comedy, which is set to arrive in the U.S. on May 27.

These kinds of promo photos are great because they tease the film without giving away anything that might spoil the plot. There are rampant rumors about what will transpire in this upcoming sequel film (not to mention the surprises that have already been featured in the officially released promo trailers) but these photos just show the ladies (and gentleman) lookin’ fab. Check out a few more promo photos after the jump …
