Howdy, ‘Pilgrim’

Yesterday evening I ventured out to Glendale, CA to have a shopping/dinner/movie date with my dear friend Adriana. She and I had been talking about a hang out session for a while and last night was the night. We did a bit of shopping at the Glendale Galleria and the Americana Brand outdoor mall and I ended up finding an amazingly fun clear telephone at Urban Outfitters which is exactly like the first telephone I got for my room back in the late 80′s:

As you may have guessed, I’ve been in a BIG 80′s mood lately and seeing this phone reminded me of the days before cell phones even existed when it was SO COOL to one’s own phone line in one’s own room. Even tho I’ll prolly never use it (cuz no one calls our landline except for telemarketers who David loves to yell at), this new phone is now sitting on my desk to remind me of the good ol’ days of telephony.

After we finished with the shopping, we supped at Katsuya and then went to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World:

AY had already seen it but she wanted to see it again with me … which I love. The movie is hella cute and I loved every second of it. I know people are calling it a comic book movie (which I suppose it is since it’s based on a graphic novel) but it is way more a classic video game movie than anything else. The FX are very inventive and I loved all of the characters. To be honest, I’m still not a Michael Cera fan but he was OK as Scott Pilgrim. To be honest, my fave character was Wallace Wells played by Kieran Culkin but the whole movie is very cute … and now I can’t wait to read the comic books. Comic book and video game fans will prolly love this film as much as I did … it’s really very cute.

Today, I have a bunch of errands to take care of so it’s prolly gonna be a quiet night. I’m hoping to talk David into doing a mini date night … we’ve not had a night to ourselves in ages. Hope your Hump Day is a happy one!!

‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’ Premieres In Hollywood

Michael Cera was joined by co-stars and celeb friends at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA last night for the Hollywood premiere of his new film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Adapted from the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley, this new film tells the tale of a 23-year old Canadian slacker who falls in love with a girl and must battle her 7 evil ex-boyfriends in order to win her heart. To be honest, I only had a passing awareness of the graphic novel series but I absolutely fell in love with the movie when I saw the first movie trailer earlier this year. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals at last night’s movie premiere event:

I’ll be the first to admit that Michael Cera tends to bug the HELL out of me … but I was won over so entirely by the movie trailer that I am willing to overlook that fact and give the movie a chance. The film utilizes elements from comic books and video games to heighten the experience of the movie … it just looks really damn cool. I’ve since checked out some of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels and I’ve determined I like them very much. The animation in the books is very simple but effective … I really like the cuteness of the books. I’m hoping the film will be as fun as the trailer makes it seem. After the jump, check out the video trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to see what I’m talking about …
