Who Is The Hottest Australian Star?
Australia Day Deserves A Celebration Of Aussie Talent

Yesterday, 26 January was Australia Day, the day Australians commemorate the anniversary of England’s First Fleet arriving at Sydney Cove in 1788 and starting the colony. It’s a bitter sweet day, because for many Aussies this is also the day that the Aboriginal population, that had been on the land for centuries, were side stepped and their land taken away. That sad note aside, this is also a day for Aussies living in the U.S. to celebrate the contribution that Australia has made to the celebrity world. As one patriotic Aussie girl, I am proud of our exports… who do you think is the biggest Australian talent to have taken over Hollywood?

‘Clash Of The Titans’ Premieres In Hollywood

On Tuesday we got to see photos from the London premiere of Clash of the Titans and today we get to see photos from the Hollywood premiere, which was held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre here in SoCal last night. As I suspected, there were more celebs at the Hollywood premiere of the film than there were at the London premiere … but not many more. I was very happy to see that Alyssa Milano (of Who’s the Boss and Charmed fame) was in attendance last night … here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals:

Alyssa has a new series debuting on ABC this month … she will star in Romantically Challenged, her first network TV series since she ended her run as Phoebe Halliwell on Charmed back in 2006. It will be amazing to have her back on TV again … her show premieres on April 12. But, I’m digressing … and I’m starting to worry, y’all. I’ve heard nothing but TERRIBLE things about Clash of the Titans in 3D. The reviews for the 3D version of the film are pretty scathing. Because the film was NOT filmed in 3D, the effects were added in post-production … the result, if the reviews are to believed, is not good. I’m seeing the movie tonight with my friend Josh at an early 8PM screening … I’m really excited to see the film but am worried it will disappoint. I’ll be sure to let y’all know what I think … for now, I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that Titans will be better than the reviews claim it to be. We shall see.

Thank gods
‘Clash Of The Titans’ Premieres In London

At last … the 3D remake of Clash of the Titans held its first movie premiere this week signaling the countdown to the film’s release. Titans will open in theaters this Friday (tho, some theaters will be showing the film as early as 8PM Thursday night) but last night, the folks in London got to see the movie in full at the world premiere of Clash of the Titans which was held at Empire Leicester Square in London, England. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals:

Sure, the premiere was a bit light on the big stars but I suspect any premiere that takes place in either NYC or LA (or both) will bring out more of the celebs … but for me, the draw is the film itself. I LOVE the original Clash of the Titans but was far too young to see it in theaters when it was released originally … I’ve been really excited about this remake/update version from the start. I was lucky enough to score tickets to an 8PM showing here in LA this Thursday night so I can see the film before I have to jet off to Connecticut to spend Passover/Easter with David’s family. I am SOOOO excited. I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve seen of this new version … I just hope the film lives up to my expectations. As a fan of Greek myth, I’m really looking forward to seeing this tale come alive on the big screen, in 3D! Woot!!

"I’m still a very boisterous young man"
Sam Worthington Does ‘Details’ Magazine

Aussie hunk Sam Worthington, who starred in Avatar and will portray Greek hero Perseus in the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine. This coverstory is timed perfectly with the release of his new film, due out next month, and gives the US audience a better understanding of this boy from Oz:

On finding interviews excruciating: I’m still a very boisterous young man. And I swear a bit more than I should. So I’m learning to temper it, you know?”

On his standard-issue Aussie boyhood: “I’m not a great fan of people who say they put a sheet up in the backyard when they were 7 and entertained all the neighbors. When I was 7, I thought I was a fucking fire truck.”

On why he loves living in hotel rooms: “”I like room service. They put a chocolate on my pillow. It’s kinda cool.”

On his work ethic: “”Well, I demand a lot,” he says, then backtracks, not wanting to position himself as some kind of diva. “I demand excellence in myself. I’m up front and quite outspoken, but I’ll give you everything.”

This Details coverstory does give the reader a better sense of Sam Worthington, the man, but the info comes primarily from the people he’s worked with. The primary focus of the piece is on what others (like James Cameron, McG, Zoe Saldana and more) think of him rather than from responses he gives to the interviewer. It’s a great read. The mag also comes with a batch of really great photos, too. After the jump, check out a few of them …

Werq It Out
Sam Worthington Has A Penchant For The Man Bag

Aussie actor and recent GQ magazine coverboy Sam Worthington may like to but on a manly action movie persona on the big screen (in movies like Terminator: Salvation, Avatar and the upcoming film Clash of the Titans) but in his everyday life, he doesn’t seem quite so rough and tumble. Here are a couple of cute pics of Sam out and about on the streets of SoCal this week gabbin’ on the phone with his sassy little man bag:

I love the man bag! Ya know, sometimes guys have a lot of shizz to carry around that just won’t fit in pants pockets … sometimes you need a bag. As far as man bags go, Sam‘s here is on the manlier side. It looks a lot like the satchel that Jack Bauer on 24 carries around when he’s saving the world from the forces of evil. While I doubt that Sam‘s packin’ as much heat as Jack Bauer usually packs in his man bag, I’m sure he’s got only the most necessary essentials in his little sack. He wears it well, don’t you think?

Hollywood's biggest night is also 'The Hurt Locker's greatest accomplishment
The 82nd Annual Academy Awards Are Handed Out

Earlier today we learned that director Kathryn Bigelow made Oscar history last night at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards where she took home the trophies for Best Director (the first woman to do so) and Best Picture (the biggest award of the awards). But, there were other folks at the Oscars last night … some of them won Oscars of the their own, many of them didn’t … but that’s the name of the game. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals:

As you can see, Gabourey Sidibe wore a lovely blue dress … in fact, all of the women from Precious who appeared at the Academy Awards last night wore blue dresses because it was the color that actress Hattie McDaniel (the first African-American woman to win an Oscar) wore when she collected her Best Supporting Actress award for Gone with the Wind in 1939. Meryl Streep wore a lovely white dress … which was designed by Project Runway contestant Chris March (who is usually known for his outlandish costume designs — usually worn by drag queens — rather than his stylish fashion designs). The red carpet, as usual, had its hits and misses but the folks presented here looked mighty fine, I thought.

After the jump, check out a few photos of some of the happy Oscar winners in the Academy Awards press room last night (posing with their trophies), read a run-down of all the highlights from last night’s show and find out what I thought of the 82nd Academy Awards telecast …

'Dexter', 'Avatar', 'Crazy Heart', 'Up' win doubles
The 2010 Golden Globes Are Handed Out

Last night the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards were handed out in rainy SoCal at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA … and, I gotta say, the show did a pretty fantastic job with spreading the wealth to many deserved winners. No one movie or TV show ran away with all the awards … Dexter was the only TV series to win 2 awards while Avatar, Crazy Heart and Up were the only movies to win 2 awards as well (with the former film taking home the biggest movie awards of the night). Here are a few pics from the rainy red carpet arrivals last night:

I am *amazed* that the organizers of the Golden Globe Awards this year did not plan for the rain. We knew all week long that it was going to rain yesterday … hell, it even started raining early enough in the day to give folks the head’s up that they might want to plan for a wet red carpet and yet … there was no planning involved. Everyone on the red carpet, celebs and reporters alike, were just meandering around like wet lost sheep. How dreadful. Many of the celebs had to scramble to find umbrellas and people to hold their umbrella’s for them … only Mariah Carey came prepared with her very own personal valet/husband Nick Cannon who is always at the ready to hold her umbrella for her whenever she needs him. Such a good boy.

But, the show did go off without a hitch. Ricky Gervais, IMHO, wasn’t that great of a host but he did a passable job I thought. And as I mentioned earlier, I was very pleased with many of winners last night — save for just a few winners I did NOT agree with at all. After the jump, check out some photos from the show itself and find out who won and who I thought got robbed …

Man of the Year
Sam Worthington Does Australian ‘GQ’ Magazine

Sam Worthington, star of James Cameron‘s hit film Avatar and of the upcoming remake version of Clash of the Titans, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the latest issue of Australian GQ magazine, which dubbed him Man of the Year. Here is Sam on the cover of Aussie GQ along with a short excerpt from the coverstory article:

Perth brickie. Accidental NIDA student. Australia’s hottest young actor. Global superstar. Are there any more worlds left for GQ’s Man of the Year to conquer? He readily admits that he can name every journalist who’s ever bagged him and reads everything written about him on blogs, gossip sites and the movie website IMDb. He has plenty of people on his shit-list and regales me with the tale of a journalist who interviewed him about his role in Clash of the Titans. “You know what his fi rst question was? ‘Why did Perseus have a shaved head?’ and I said, ‘That’s a dumb question. You’ve got two more questions to ask me.’ So he said again, ‘Why did Perseus have a shaved head?’ so I said, ‘OK, interview over,’ and walked out.” Welcome to Worthington’s world. There’s no shit-taking or time-wasting on his watch. He’s so passionate, respectful, honest and smart about his work that he expects the same from those around him, no matter what job they have. One thing’s for sure: he’s solid. Which is exactly why he scored the leading role in James Cameron’s Avatar. But he’s absolutely nobody’s bitch, not even Cameron’s.

Yeah, Worthington deffo strikes me as the kind of dude who doesn’t suffer fools gladly and does not put up with anyone’s bullshizz. This GQ excerpt just solidifies that belief. But while there isn’t anything more to read from this GQ article there are a bunch of photos from the accompanying photospread to enjoy. Check ‘em out after the jump …

The Resistance isn't futile
‘Terminator: Salvation’ Premieres In Hollywood

Christian Bale, Aussie newcomer Sam Worthington and more were on hand here in LA last night for the Hollywood premiere of their new movie Terminator: Salvation. Celebs of varying degree made their way out to Grauman’s Chinese Theater for last night’s event. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals along with a report from last night’s soiree:

Christian Bale was all smiles during his red carpet walk for the premiere of his latest action film “Terminator Salvation” held at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, May 14. No sign of that angry actor who so famously went off on the film’s director of photography; instead, he hugged his wife Sibi Blazic to his side and behaved. Perhaps that’s because it isn’t Bale who is getting all the attention for this fourth installment in “The Terminator” series that began way back in 1984. That honor goes to Australian actor Sam Worthington, who breaks out in a big way in the massive action flick. The former bricklayer from Perth is the man of the hour, as was obvious at the elaborate after party set up in a parking lot across Hollywood Boulevard. As spotlights swept the scene and massive robots loomed over the revelers, Worthington was mobbed by excited new fans. He hung on tight to girlfriend Natalie Mark, and seemed to take it all in stride. “I think I’m in a lucky position to be getting offered roles that I find interesting,” said the 32-year-old actor who spent ten years working in Australian film, television, and theater before taking the leap to Hollywood. “I’m working with some very talented people and hopefully telling some good stories. And hopefully my work isn’t going to let those people down.” His co-stars on hand seemed happy with his performance as they did the meet-and-greet at the premiere. Moon Bloodgood, Jane Alexander, Anton Yelchin and Bryce Dallas Howard all made the star-studded scene, along with “Terminator” fans like Rose McGowan, Eric Dane, Anil Kapoor, Tyrese Gibson, Kathryn Morris, Brook Burke, Eric Mabius, and Kelly Osbourne. But despite the rumors swirling around the party, it turned out that California’s governor and the original star of “The Terminator” Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver did not make the premiere. They did, however send three of their children to the celebration. Katherine, Patrick, and Christopher Schwarzenegger represented the family, and watched their dad’s robot character return to the role that made him a household name 25 years ago.

It is a huge compliment to get top billing with a star like Christian Bale so it seems that Sam Worthington is really making his mark in Hollywood. You will note that both of their names are listed on the poster artwork for this film. I am not familiar with any of Worthington‘s previous work but something tells me that we will be hearing a lot more about him soon. I understand that he has signed on to appear in the new James Cameron big budget blockbuster Avatar and he will be starring in the updated remake of Clash of the Titans. I am really anxious to see Terminator: Salvation cuz I’ve been hearing really great things. Here’s hopin’ the Aussie can keep up with the superstar Welsh Brit and hold his own as a leading man in this much anticipated action flick.
