The promo (both video AND print) for the upcoming 4th season of True Blood may already be underway but that doesn’t mean that filming on the series is finished. Altho the first half of the season has already been filmed, there are still a few eps left that need to be completed … which is why actor Ryan Kwanten (who plays hottie Jason Stackhouse) was spotted on the streets of SoCal this week hard at work filming new scenes for TB 4. A couple of weeks ago, GQ magazine revealed its Men of the Year for 2010 list here in the US and today we learn that Australian GQ magazine has just unveiled their list. True Blood star Ryan Kwanten has been named the Aussie GQ Man of the Year and he graces the cover of the just released new issue:

Wil Anderson catches up with GQ Man of the Year Ryan Kwanten for a few beers (some drunk, one spilt) and Probes the brilliant mind behind the stunning pecs. For the past few years Kwanten’s been burning up the small screen as the hilarious Jason Stackhouse in True Blood, and in his spare time over the last year he’s managed to squeeze in three films – Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Griff the Invisible, and Red Hill. And there’s plenty more to come. Kwanten shares everything with GQ from growing up in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, to breaking into Hollywood and his dislike of sleep. Despite his success Kwanten remains down-to-earth and is still excited by living and working in Hollywood – “Every time I drive down Santa Monica Boulevard, every time I see the Hollywood sign, I’ve been here eight years now and I still have that twinkle.”

True Blood hottie Ryan Kwanten is enjoying some much-deserved downtime this week as he maxes and relaxes by the pool in Hawaii. Here are a couple photos of Ryan chillin’ with some friends poolside at his resort hotel in Hawaii yesterday afternoon:

Ryan has had a bizzy year already so it’s nice to see him gettin’ some rest and relaxation. Unless he takes on a new film or TV project, he’s got a lot of vacation time ahead before he is due to film new scenes for the next season of True Blood. I surely hope he continues to enjoy this holiday vacation because where there is surf and sun, there is shirtlessness. True Blood hotness Ryan Kwanten is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new supplemental magazine GQ Style which just launched down under in Australia. GQ Style is a supplement that comes packaged with GQ magazine and the first Aussie issue features the country’s own Kwanten. Here is our first look at Ryan‘s GQ Style cover and some excerpts from his coverstory interview:

True Blood star Ryan Kwanten is the cover face of the launch edition of GQ Style Australia. In an accompanying interview, the 33-year-old Aussie-born actor has told how he messed up an audition for Steven Spielberg after parking his pushbike in the director’s parking space. “I was running about five minutes late and there was nothing to tie my bike up to,” he explained. “So I found this sort of wooden stake and put my bike around it with this long bike chain. I went into the audition and sat down with the other guys. Two seconds later an assistant comes running in and says, ‘Does anyone ride a bicycle?’ And I’ve said, ‘Yeah, that’s me’. So he grabs me by the wrist and throws me outside. And there, sure enough, is Spielberg sitting in his big SUV. The wooden bar I tied my bike to had an S. Spielberg sign on it. Needless to say, I didn’t get that job and have never worked for Spielberg since.”

Awww … poor Ryan. Well, I guess it turns out that it was Spielberg‘s loss cuz look at little Ryan now ;) And, I have to say, despite the fully-clothedness of this cover photo, I am totally digging Ryan‘s smoldering steel gaze in this coverphoto … meow! We are just 4 days away from the season 3 premiere of True Blood on HBO but last night, here in Hollywood, CA, the cast convened at the ArcLight Theater to premiere the first two eps of the season in a lavish celebration. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night:

We’ve already seen all the promo posters, all the preview videos and the entire mini-series of A Drop of True Blood … the time for foreplay is over! Last night’s premiere signals that HBO is ready to show off the new season of True Blood … and I can hardly wait. With less than a week of waiting left, we will get back into the swing of weekly doses of True Blood. I’m so ready already … are you?

If the Vanity Fair Oscar Party is the biggest party for celebs to be seen at on Oscar night then the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party is a close second. Unlike the VF party, tho, Sir Elton‘s party is a fundraiser meant to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation which, in turn, funds other needy AIDS research programs. Sir Elton John and David Furnish hosted the 18th Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) Academy Awards® Viewing Party and raised $3.7 Million for the fight against AIDS. Presented by Chopard, Jo and Raffy Manoukian and Neuro Drinks, the EJAF Viewing Party continues to be the leading fundraiser on Oscar night in Hollywood. The evening began with a cocktail reception, dinner and viewing of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, followed by a very exciting live auction and high voltage performance by the iconic Grace Jones. Throughout its 18 years, the event has hosted some of the biggest stars in film, television and music. This year was no exception with celebrities such as Adam Levine, Alan Cumming, Allison Iraheta (American Idol), Apolo Ohno, Betty White, Chace Crawford, Christina Hendricks, Cory Monteith (Glee), Debi Mazar, Eric & Janet McCormack, Gina Gershon, Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, J.C. Guests arrived for the 18th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Viewing party to a custom-built tent adorned in hues of red and tangerine, a decor inspired by designer Antony Todd’s travels. Chef Wayne Elias of Crumble Catering prepared an exquisite five-course meal including dishes such as Risotto Carnaroli with saffron liquorice and king prawns and “Wahoo” with black olives, pine nuts, fresh herbs and stewed lentils. As is tradition, immediately following dinner, auctioneer Jamie Niven of Sotheby’s led the evening’s live auction. Items auctioned included a Lisa Jack contact sheet of a portrait sitting of now President Barack Obama which was taken at Occidental College in 1980. This rare piece sold for an astounding $60K. Guests also had the opportunity to bid on a private tennis lesson given by legendary tennis pros Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, which sold for $70K and the costume that Sir Elton John wore during his performance with Lady Gaga at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. The costume sold for $30K. A fantastic 48″X48″ William Claxton piece, “Chet Baker (Piano), Hollywood, 1954,” was sold for $90K. The lucky winner of this photograph also got to take home Claxton’s Nikon F 35mm Camera as well as the “Jazz Life” trade edition book. Guests also had the chance to bid on a watch from the Elton John Watch Collection designed by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele. The dazzling limited timepiece was sold for $90K. Other auction items included an incredible photograph by Robert Mapplethrope called “Grace Jones, 1984″ which was sold for $85K and surprised his guests with the opportunity to bid on a 7-day stay for 10 people in Elton’s home in Windsor or Nice and the winners of this bid will also be able to experience the wonderful dishes cooked by Elton’s personal chef. The 7-day stay was sold for $140K.

Fantastic!! Sir Elton‘s Oscar Party is the place where celebs who do not (or can not) attend the Oscars show up to feel as if they are part of the night’s festivities … and, in the process, manage to raise millions for AIDS research. Truly, it is an amazing event. This party annual hosts the beautiful people … and not just the outwardly beautiful but the inwardly beautiful who are happy to donate to such a worthy cause. You know any party that attracts the likes of Betty White has to be a great event. Congrats to Elton for all his hard work this year! There is now over $13 million more dollars made available for AIDS research. Amazing!!

Last night, at the Nokia Theater at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles, CA, the 25th annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards were handed out in a fairly lavish ceremony just days before the Academy Awards are handed out in Hollywood. Known as the Indie Oscars, the Spirit Awards annually honor the independent films and filmmakers made in the year prior. This year, the indie film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the big winner, taking home 5 awards — including Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Female, Best Director and Best Feature!!! Now, I should point out that The Hurt Locker was not in contention for Spirit Awards this year due to a glitch in the awards show rules. It was nominated last year, months before the film was ever released … which meant, naturally, that it has no chance of winning because none of the voters had even heard of the film. But, Hurt Locker‘s loss was deffo Precious‘s gain. Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about what went down at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night:

The harrowing drama “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” was the big winner Friday evening at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which was held in a tent on L.A. Live’s event deck in downtown Los Angeles. The film about a pregnant African American teenager and her abusive mother won best feature, best director for Lee Daniels, best first screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher, best female lead for Gabourey Sidibe and best supporting female for Mo’Nique. Daniels basked in his win away from his fellow Oscar nominees. “Kathryn Bigelow’s not here tonight,” he said. “I am.” “Precious” is nominated for Academy Awards in many of the same categories, with Mo’Nique considered the odds-on favorite to receive best supporting actress Sunday evening at the Kodak Theatre. Mo’Nique’s acceptance speech wasn’t as emotional as some of her other winning speeches this awards season, but she did take a special moment to acknowledge her co-star Sidibe, telling her, “You are a special gift to the universe, baby.” Presenter Ben Stiller, noting the ceremony’s late hour and the independent nature of the assembled crowd, brought half-naked porn stars onstage to writhe in sexual positions while he read the nominees for best film. On Friday, best male lead went to Oscar nominee Jeff Bridges for his moving performance as a dissolute country singer in “Crazy Heart.” The role has won Bridges numerous awards this season, including honors from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. Bridges gave a rambling speech in which he thanked many people and told the crowd, ” ‘Crazy Heart’ is a gem of an independent film.” “Crazy Heart,” directed by Scott Cooper, also won the Spirit prize for best first feature. Robert Duvall, who came to the stage with Cooper, told the crowd that the latter hadn’t directed so much as a high school play before this film. “But,” Duvall added, “he does a great job.” Woody Harrelson, also an Oscar contender, won for supporting male for “The Messenger.” Screenplay honors went to Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for “(500) Days of Summer.” Roger Deakins received the cinematography award for “A Serious Man.” “An Education” won best foreign film, and “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” took documentary honors … The third annual Robert Altman Award, which is given to a film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast, went to Joel and Ethan Coen’s “A Serious Man” … The Spirit Awards, which honor independent and original filmmaking, have traditionally been held on the Saturday afternoon before the Oscars in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica. But the show moved to Friday evening at L.A. Live this year in celebration of the awards’ 25th anniversary.

Many, many congrats goes out to Precious … while I’m certain that Mo’Nique will represent the film at the Academy Awards tomorrow night, it’s clear that last night’s Spirit Awards was the film’s biggest night to shine. It’s a shame that The Hurt Locker got shut out due to a set of janky rules (which will, very likely, be amended for next year’s show) but I’m very happy to see Precious enjoy it’s time in the sun.
