Death Can Be A Drag

Blah. The good news is that the cold I was coming down with back home in Detroit is almost completely gone (thank you meds) but the bad news is that my allergies kicked into high gear late Sunday night/early Monday morning. A few years ago, I used to suffer from allergy outbreaks of hives but these days, I don’t really get them anymore … that is, unless I’m around cats for extended periods of time. Since I was staying at my BFF Sarah’s place last week, I think her two kitties caused my flare up. Yesterday was mostly an uncomfortable day of hives but, thankfully, they have almost entirely gone away today. Since I wasn’t really in the mood to go out, I got to spend some time watching TV … including last night’s FABULOUS season 4 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Warning: Fierceness Overload
First Look: ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Releases A Season 4 Trailer

Happy Day! We are mere weeks away from another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and today we get to check out the FABULOUS first trailer for the upcoming 4th season of the show. Firstly, I cannot believe it’s been almost a year already since the last season of Drag Race was on the air. Second, I cannot believe we’re already up to the 4th season of the show! In previous seasons, the show’s lack of money was … obvious. As you can see in the trailer below, it would see that RuPaul got a bit more money this year to make the show look better. Click below and see what I mean.

Season 3 of 'Race' premieres in January
First Look: The Cast Of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 3

Gentlemen, start your engines … again. RuPaul and LOGO TV have announced that the next season of RuPaul’s Drag Race will debut in January 2011 and right now we get our first look at the 12 new queens who will be vying for the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar. Here are a few screencaps from a just-released teaser video and the full text of the press release announcement:

RuPaul’s now-iconic declaration, “You better work!,” has never rung more true than with the third season premiere of Logo’s hit show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” From numerous celebrities naming the series one of their most beloved reality competition shows to former contestants appearing on the runway at New York Fashion Week, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has grown from a cult favorite into a mainstream phenomenon. Clearly, this season’s queens have some big (high-heeled) shoes to fill if they want to make it to the finish line. Bigger name guest judges, “OMFG” challenges and higher stakes will make this the most sensational season as the queens fight tooth-and-press-on-nail for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” returns January 2011 on Logo. RuPaul, the world’s most famous drag queen, has pushed the boundaries of popular culture on an international level and continues to make history this season with “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” the first reality television show featuring drag queens. RuPaul is back for a third season to decide who will “shante! stay!” or “sashay away” with a new batch of the nation’s hottest, most glamorous drag queens. Wigs will fly and drama will run high as the contestants bring their over-the-top attitudes to the drag battle royale that is “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Ah yes … it’s that time of year again … the time when all the most-fabulous undiscovered drag queens compete in head-to-head competition to become the most beautiful drag queen of all. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since we met the last batch of Drag Race contestants … but here they are, a whole new crop ready to win our love and affection. After the jump, check out the new teaser trailer for RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 and read the list of names of this season’s competitors …

All Hail the Queens
Meet The Cast Of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 2

Back in March LOGO crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar in the season finale of their surprise hit competitive reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race and today we get to meet the 12 new contestants vying for that very same title for season 2. All week long, LOGO has been teasing the announcement of the new cast of the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (set to debut on LOGO in February ’10) and today we get our first look at the new set of queens going head to head to become America’s Next Drag Superstar. Here is the first batch of contestants along with some deets about the upcoming second season:

Like Ru says: “You betta watch!” As you can tell, it certainly seems like the show hasn’t lost any of the copious amounts of verve and panache it served up so heavily in the inaugural season earlier this year. (And, here’s a dream within a dream: You can still watch all the episodes from last season online.) In fact, based on the video, I might just love this coming season even more than the last–mostly because of that glorious pink hair that Ru is wearing when she tells her finalists to “Lip sync for your life!” But also because of one particular contestant we see in the above video. That’d be Mystique, the rather curvy and full-figured queen you amazingly saw do the splits. I can tell you already that I’m already gunning for that gurl. Lastly, I’m loving that it looks like Ru slaps someone! That’s right, queens, Ru don’t take no lip! But, the video isn’t the only scoop we’ve got on the new season—after the jump, we serve up some more details from Ru herself… First off, let’s talk guest judges: So far, three of the guest judges we know about are Kathy Griffin (see our First Look with her in this week’s issue of the magazine, which is on stands now), Cloris Leachman, and Debbie Reynolds. Hello, jackpot! “All of the judges,” says RuPaul, “have this sense of show business and this sense of who they are that allows them to really judge what drag is about because they clearly see themselves as drag queens, too.” As for the structure of Drag Race itself, it’ll largely remain the same—except for one slight change. “It will have a fresh look to it,” Ru reveals with a good-natured laugh. “There won’t be as much Vaseline on the lens!” Most of all, though, Ru assures that the contestants are more fired up than ever: “The biggest change in this season is the contestants are actually a bit more—how can I put this?—they’re more tenacious. In the first season, they were a bit more diplomatic because they knew they were representing drag for the first time in a decade. This time around, though, the kids have seen the first show, they know what the prize is, and they know what’s at stake, so they have taken the gloves off.” Well, thank goodness for that!

After the jump, check out the second batch of promo photos of the season 2 Drag Race contestants as well as a list of their names and check out the new promo video that has just been released …

Bebe Zahara Benet Is The New Face Of l.a. Eyeworks

As you may recall, drag queen Bebe Zahara Benet was crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar on the LOGO competitive reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race a couple of weeks ago and now is the time for Bebe to start reaping the rewards of her win. Part of the grand prize is for the winner to appear in a national print ad for l.a. Eyeworks as the face of the designer eyewear company … and here is our first look at Bebe Zahara Benet‘s new promo photo for the company’s new ad campaign:

Bebe Zahara Benet, freshly crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar after winning RuPaul’s Drag Race, has just received the first of the many prizes her fierceness has earned. She was photographed by Greg Gorman and is the latest fabulous face in the legendary “A face is like a work of art” series of print ads for l.a. Eyeworks. Still to come for Bebe: $20,000 courtesy of Absolut vodka and MAC cosmetics, a fashion spread in Paper magazine, and a headlining gig on the national Absolut Pride tour.

Some may scoff that a simple print ad like this pales in comparison to the other prizes that are awarded in other more prominent competitive reality TV programs but the fact that we even have the opportunity to celebrate and honor drag is a huge accomplishment. Sure, the prize money may not be as much as, say, the prize money on America’s Next Top Model or Project Runway but we have to start somewhere. As some of you may be aware, RuPaul was featured in a print ad campaign for l.a. Eyeworks back in the 90′s and was, I believe, the first drag performer to be featured in a national ad campaign. After the jump, check out RuPaul‘s l.a. Eyewear promo photo and see where it all began …

ATTENTION: 'RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE' SPOILER ALERT WARNING
And America’s Next Drag Superstar Is …

Last night, David and I cracked open a bottle of Absolut Mango and raised a glass to toast the season finale of the amazingly fabulous LOGO competitive reality TV program RuPaul’s Drag Race. As I mentioned on the blog previously, I was a late-comer to the show but managed to catch-up in time to really enjoy the series and watch as America’s Next Drag Superstar was crowned queen on last night’s finale ep:

For those of you who aren’t aware, LOGO aired an 8-ep season of RuPaul’s Drag Race which is a little bit Project Runway, a little bit America’s Next Top Model and a lotta bit fabulosity. Each week, drag contestants from around the world competed to become America’s Next Drag Superstar in the hopes of following in RuPaul‘s trailblazing footsteps. I’m not kidding when I say that RuPaul’s Drag Race is the most entertaining competitive reality TV series that I’ve seen in a while … it was a great substitute for Project Runway (which has been kept off the air due to legal wrangling). Last night, RuPaul crowned her successor. After the jump, find out who won …

‘Lipsync For Your LIFE!’

So, after a few weeks of hearing how amazing the new show RuPaul’s Drag Race is I figured it was time that I saw for myself what all the hoopla was about. I started recording the series in reruns over the past week and finally got around to watching the show … and OMG, is it awesome!

I pretty much love everything about the whole show. It’s like Project Runway meets America’s Next Top Model meets Make Me a Supermodel all rolled into one fabulously DIVA package. I just love RuPaul and I love that she is back on the scene with this fab show. I have to give it up to all the drag queens on the show … they all are amazing. Even on their worst days they look utterly amazing. I don’t even think I have any favorites, I really do enjoy them all. The saying goes that It takes a real man to walk a mile in a woman’s shoes and I think I might have to agree with that sentiment :) I’m so glad I finally got on board with this fab show … it’s really fun, you should deffo check it out. The show can be streamed online at LogoOnline.com in case you’ve missed the eps like I did.

In other news, our massively HUGE bed just arrived. The deliverymen were in and out in about 15 mins. total. The bed is so big … we’re thrilled :)

Lots of errands today … we need bedding for our big bed, any ideas on where to go? I’m afraid I have no idea. OY!
