Beyotch Stole My Look!
Jessica Alba Channels Her Inner Golden Girl With Her Blanche Devereaux Outfit

My friend Chris gave me the head’s up of a startling discovery that was made by his BFF Ragni. It turns out that Jessica Alba was caught channeling her inner Golden Girl … duplicating a look made famous by Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Deveraux on The Golden Girls. Now, I have no idea when the photo of Jessica was snapped but as you can see in the side-by-side photos below, Jess absolutely STOLE Blanche‘s look. Check out the photos below and marvel.

Fans take to Facebook
Rue McClanahan Remembered Online

Fans have been asked by the family of Rue McClanahan to pay their respects to the late Golden Girl, who sadly passed away early yesterday morning after she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on Monday and then a massive stroke late Wednesday, on a new official Facebook tribute page … particularly because Rue asked that no funeral be held for her after her death. The family explains that there will be memorial services for Rue later in the Summer in both NYC and LA but, for now, fans are asked to share their love for Rue on this newly launched Facebook tribute page:

McClanahan requested that no funeral be held for her, but memorial services will be announced for later this summer in New York and Los Angeles, California, Lawrence said. Fans can pay their respects online, a family statement said. “Please join us in celebrating Rue’s amazing life” by visiting a memorial page established for her on Facebook, the family said.

This is what the Rue McClanahan Memorial Page at Facebook looks like …

… which you will find HERE. In lieu of a very public funeral, I think this is a great way for family, friends and fans of Rue McClanahan to not only share their grief but to share their fun, loving memories of Rue‘s amazing life! It’s still very sad to think that Rue is gone … but, I gotta say, reading thru the tribute messages on Facebook does seem to lessen the pain just a little.

"Rue was a close and dear friend."
Betty White Remembers The Late Rue McClanahan

Betty White, the last surviving Golden Girl and dear friend of Rue McClanahan, has issued a personal statement concerning the death of our dear Rue. Despite the pain that she is feeling today in the wake of Rue‘s sad passing, Betty has this to say:

“Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that’s even possible.”

I know many of us are still reeling from the news of Rue‘s death today but I cannot for the life of me imagine what Rue‘s death means to Betty White. It’s clear there was a strong bond of love and friendship between these two ladies … it’s just heartbreaking to deal with Rue‘s death and consider Betty‘s pain. We are all hurting today … my thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Rue‘s family and friends.

Rue McClanahan Passes Away At 76

Very very sad and heartbreaking news to pass along today … Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan has passed away. As you may sadly recall, Rue suffered a stroke after she underwent heart bypass surgery last November and since then has been recovering from her ailments. Rue celebrated her 76th birthday in February but, very sadly, her time with us has come to an end. I think I speak for many when I say that Rue McClanahan will be sorely missed:

Golden Girl Rue McClanahan, 76, has died. “She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning,” her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. She had a massive stroke.” McClanahan, who played Blanche Deveraux in the beloved sitcom, Golden Girls, had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery. Lawrence added that at the time of her death Thursday, McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace.”

I am completely and utterly heartbroken by this news, especially by the fact that she suffered a “massive stoke” … that her manager reveals that Rue passed away in peace with her family beside her gives me some bit of comfort but … this is just extremely sad news. Rue McClanahan was an amazing woman, a talented actress and an honest to goodness friend to countless people. She brought laughter and happiness to so many in her 76 years … there will never be another like her. After Rue suffered her stroke late last year, I feared the worst … and the worst has finally happened. But I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that Rue will live on for all eternity in the hearts and minds of all the people she touched. But today is a sad, sad day … we’ve lost another Golden Girl (Estelle Getty passed away in 2008, Bea Arthur in 2009 and now Rue McClanahan in 2010). Rue, you are LOVED and will be missed :(

We love you Rue!!! Have a Happy Birthday today!!!

Betty White Tells Rue McClanahan To ‘Drop Dead!’

Things have been going very well for Betty White these days … not only did she just celebrate her 88th birthday but was she just honored at the Screen Actors Guild Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award AND she also has the honor of being in the first commercial shown during the SuperBowl this coming Sunday. Not too shabby, huh? Fellow Golden Girl Rue McClanahan is having a bit rougher of a time lately, as you may recall she is currently recovering from a recent stroke. But, don’t expect Betty to put on the kid gloves where Rue is concerned, Ms. White is adamant about becoming the last Golden Girl left standing and she wants Rue to know it:

Betty White is serious about being the final Golden Girl standing. After the deaths of Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur, Betty and actress Rue McClanahan are the last surviving stars of the beloved television sitcom The Golden Girls. Earlier this year, Rue, 75, suffered a stroke that has kept her hospitalized for weeks. Naturally, 88-year-old pal Betty was there to offer her well wishes for a speedy recovery; she sent Rue a heartfelt message which read: “Dear Rue, I hope you hurry up and die so I can be the last Golden Girl left. NOT KIDDING!” But don’t worry, Rue thought the card was hilarious! Apparently “Drop Dead” is a term of endearment between these two.

I love the Golden Girls ladies more than anything but this is sick and wrong. LOL! I suppose when good friends reach advanced age, they need to really go for the jugular when they razz one another. It pains me to think of Rue in recovery but it sounds like this “drop dead” joke between her and Betty is a dear joke that is very likely good for her soul. I’m hoping for the day, hopefully soon, when we learn of Rue‘s full recovery so that she can dish the jokes back Betty‘s way. It’s nice to know that these older gals still have the zest of life. I want them both to live forever.

"I'm currently having some maintenance on the old ticker"
Rue McClanahan Has Been Hospitalized!

Troubling news to pass along today … Rue McClanahan, one of the amazing Golden Girls, has been forced to pull out of an event to honor her in San Francisco, CA next week due to a medical condition. It turns out that Rue’s doctor has ordered her hospitalization after suffering “acute cardiac illness”:

The Golden Girls actress Rue McClanahan has been hospitalised after suffering from acute cardiac illness. The news means that an event honoring the Emmy Award-winning actress has been canceled. According to Advocate.com, Golden: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan was to take place on 14 November at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. “My darlings, I’m just devastated that I am going to have to miss my own tribute at the Castro Theatre,” she said in a statement on Wednesday from her hospital room. “Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I’m currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I’d much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you.” Gala organizer Marc Huestis wished McClanahan a speedy recovery and suggested that the event may be postponed to a later date.

While this news is very upsetting, I take comfort in the fact that Rue McClanahan is a tough woman … her statement gives me hope that she will pull thru this heart thing with flying colors and will be well enough to be honored in San Francisco as she rightly deserves to be. I hope all y’all will join me in sending our best, most heartfelt well-wishes to Rue on a speedy recovery! Get better soon, Rue! We all love you very, very much!!!

Betty White & Rue McClanahan Remember Bea Arthur

On Saturday we learned the incredibly sad news that famed actress of the stage and small screen Bea Arthur, prolly most remembered for her role as Dorothy Zbornak on the beloved TV series The Golden Girls but also for her ground-breaking role in the 1970′s as Maude on both All In The Family and her own series Maude, passed away at the age of 86 after losing her battle with cancer. Bea‘s surviving co-stars Betty White and Rue McClanahan have since paid tribute to Bea in interviews and official statements. Betty issued a statement, which you can read in full here, and Rue spoke fondly of Bea in an interview with Entertainment Weekly and on The Today Show. Here are a couple photos of Bea, Betty and Rue all together at The TVLand Awards last year where the ladies accepted a pop culture award on behalf of The Golden Girls (Estelle Getty was still alive at this time last year but was too ill to attend the award show):

Here is the full text of Betty White‘s statement on Bea‘s passing:

“I knew it would hurt, I just didn’t know it would hurt this much.. I’m so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that. She was such a big part of my life.”

Here is a portion of Rue McClanahan‘s interview about Bea with Entertainment Weekly:

What did you learn about acting from Bea Arthur?
What I got attached to, as an actress, was her impeccable timing. And I loved playing scenes with her. She taught me, by watching her, even back during Maude, to be outrageously courageous as a comedienne, to go out on a limb, to go farther than I’ve ever dreamed of going. [On The Golden Girls], Blanche had to say and do things that Rue found difficult. And it would always be Bea who said [deepens voice to perfectly imitate Arthur] “Oh say it! It’s funny!”

What was she like off-camera?
As a friend she was giving and loving to me. She was a very close, quiet, rather timid person, very gentle. I saw someone say something once that they didn’t mean to be a cutting remark, but it hit her wrong, and she immediately burst into tears. That was not seen very often, but those emotions were right under the surface.

It’s interesting to hear that, because I think a lot of fans just assumed she was as tough as Maude, as gruff as Dorothy.
Not just the public! When I first worked with her on Maude and came back to New York, actors descended upon me and said “Oooh! What was it like? Was it scary working with Bea Arthur?” I said “Good heavens! Anything but!” That height — she was 5’10” flat-footed — and that deep voice, and that manner she was able to summon up, made people think she would be difficult. But she wasn’t.

Any interesting quirks?
[On Golden Girls], Bea always sat in the same chair at rehearsals. Always. And she always had to have me on her right, and Betty [White] and Estelle [Getty] across the table from her. And we could not change seats from year to year, or even from week to week.

How did Bea feel about her status as a feminist icon?
Of course she was aware of it, but I tell you what meant something to Bea: Acting, performing, playing comedy and doing it well.

What did Bea mean to women of her generation? Maude and The Golden Girls both tackled a lot of issues older women face, and did so with a candor that we don’t always see in Hollywood.
I think, in both of those shows, we really did change the perception of a woman’s role. I don’t think anybody thought that it was okay to be a feminist back when she was doing Maude. And I’m sure that [show] released a lot of inhibitions. I know The Golden Girls certainly did because I’ve got fan mail saying “Thank you for allowing me to act and dress like I feel.” Because in those days, when you were over 50, you were supposed to be wearing certain types of clothes and behaving a certain way. And women were writing saying “Thank you, thank you, thank you for the freedom, for the release, for the permission.” And I’m sure Bea got that same kind of fan mail, too.

What was Bea’s lasting contribution to TV history?
What’s any great star’s lasting contribution? What’s Lucille Ball’s? I don’t know how to put answers like that into words. I suppose perhaps the thing she did the best and the most of was make people laugh.

Bea Arthur was truly an amazing woman. It will forever be one of my great regrets to have never met her in person. I remember when she did her one-woman Broadway show back in 2001 … I was not yet able to travel to NYC whenever I liked so I was not able to see her show live. It just pains me know to think that I missed out on a golden opportunity to see this genius comedic actress live on stage. Thankfully, we have reruns of The Golden Girls to remind us for all time what a truly special woman she was. After the jump, check out video of Rue McClanahan being interviewed on The Today Show

The third 'Golden Girl' speaks
Rue McClanahan Pays Tribute To Estelle Getty

Rue McClanahan, who played the sexpot Blanche Devereaux, has released a statement about the passing of her Golden Girls co-star Estelle Getty (who played Sophia Petrillo) following released statements from both Bea Arthur and Betty White (who played Dorothy Zbornak and Rose Nylund respectively). You may sadly recall that Estelle passed away yesterday morning at the age of 84:

“Estelle always wanted to be an actress and she achieved that goal beyond her dreams. Don’t feel sad about her passing, she will always be with us in her crowning achievement.”

I understand where Rue‘s sentiments are coming from but it’s hard not to be sad … it kinda feels like losing a grandmother. At the same time, it’s easy to want to celebrate Estelle‘s life … she was a comedic giant. I plan on keeping the banner tribute to Estelle Getty at the top of my blog for at least a week’s time. She is sorely missed.
