Britney Spears‘s new album Femme Fatale is scheduled for release in a little over a week from now but Rolling Stone magazine has already gotten their mitts on the disc and have published their review of the album. "When Jersey Shore ends I'm going to do more spinoffs ... I'm trying to build an empire"
Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

For some strange and totally incomprehensible reason, Rolling Stone magazine — which is dedicated to music first and investigative journalism second — decided to put Nicole Snooki Polizzi of MTV‘s Jersey Shore on the cover of their new issue. I suppose the argument could be made that Snooki is “hot” right now in terms of pop culture but I, personally, fail to see the rationale of choosing her in particular for the cover when, IMHO, there are many other more worth music artists who would be much better suited for Rolling Stone magazine.

Biebs Talks Politics, Puberty and Abortion
Justin Bieber Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

Popstar Justin Bieber, newly dubbed “Super Boy”, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his first coverstory interview for the mag, Bieber opens up about his thoughts on politics, sex and — strangely enough — abortion. It’s clear that the Biebs wanted to sound more mature and worldly in this Rolling Stone interview but, to be honest … does anyone want to hear Justin Bieber talk about rape and abortion?

Kanye West, 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'
‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine Picks Their 2010 Album Of The Year

With only weeks left of 2010 the annual barrage of Lists of the year’s best music, movies, books, etc. are on the way … and Rolling Stone magazine are getting the party started with the release of their list of the Top 30 Albums of the Year. What is of most interest to me is the Top 10 Albums … particularly, their choice of Album of Year. This year, RS has determined that the best album of 2010 is Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy:

Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

With My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West made music as sprawlingly messy as his life. When he wasn’t feuding with Matt Lauer or bugging out on Twitter, Kanye was building hip-hop epics, songs full of the kind of grandiose gestures that only the foolish attempt and only the wildly talented pull off. The more he piled on — string sections, Elton John piano solos, vocoder freakouts, Bon Iver cameos, King Crimson and Rick James samples — the better the music got. Never has Kanye rhymed so hilariously (“Have you ever had sex with a pharaoh?/I put the pussy in a sarcophagus”) or been so insightful about his relationship-torpedoing faults. From the bracing prog-rock of “Power” to the spooky grandeur of “Runaway” to the shape-shifting “Hell of a Life,” he made all other music seem dimmer and duller. Is the album dark? Sure. Twisted? Of course. But above all, it’s beautiful.

As much as it pains me to agree, Kanye‘s album is truly one of the best releases of the year. Expect to see Fantasy top many Top 10 lists this year and expect to see it featured in many more lists, even if it’s not at the top. Kanye West may act like a douche of epic proportions most of the time but there is no denying that he is incredibly talented. It’s a shame his antics make people shy away from liking his music because if he didn’t act like an ass all of the time, he’d enjoy a lot more love from a lot more people.

After the jump, see which other albums Rolling Stone magazine named as the 10 best of 2010 …

"I’m just now finding my footing."
Eminem Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

Eminem, Detroit’s own maestro of Hip Hop, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his coverstory interview, Em talks about how difficult it was for him to successfully battle his demons and opens up a bit about his past and the things he endured during the darkest parts of his life. Here is our first look at Em‘s RS coverphoto and some excerpts from his accompanying coverstory interview:

Contributing editor Josh Eells sits down with Eminem at his Detroit recording studio for a revealing interview about the rapper’s long battle with prescription drugs, his difficulties with women and the pain of being abandoned by his father at six months old, as well as his incredible musical comeback and his quest to score the highest score in the history of Donkey Kong. Here’s an excerpt from the extensive interview.

Do you think it’s hard for you to trust women?
I have trust issues. With women, friends, whatever. You always wonder what their real motives are. I’ve got a small circle of friends, and it’s a lot of the same friends I’ve known forever. Right now, that works for me. I came out of some difficult things these past couple of years. I kind of feel like I’m just now finding my footing. So I want to make sure that’s secure before I go out and do anything else. I need to keep working on myself for a while.

What about your love life? Do you date?
Not really. As far as going out, like dinner and a movie—I just can’t. Going out in public is just too crazy. I mean, I’d like to be in a relationship again someday. Who doesn’t? It’s just hard to meet new people, in my position.

Ugh … as you can see, Rolling Stone hasn’t made much of the interview available for preview before this issue hits newsstands. I have to say, I’m very curious to read the whole thing … primarily because I have to hear the Donkey Kong story from Eminem himself. RS has made available one of the photos from Eminem‘s photospread. Check out one of those photos, after the jump …

"I felt like I'd just been in a car accident ... It almost made me cry."
Conan O’Brien Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

Late night talk show host and all around funnyman Conan O’Brien, whose new TBS talk show Conan will premiere in just a few short weeks, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue Rolling Stone magazine. In his coverstory interview, Conan opens up about the depression he felt in the wake of losing his hosting gig on The Tonight Show and explains what his life was like after he completed his nationwide Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour. Here is our first look at Conan on the cover of RS mag and some excerpts from his coverstory interview:

In July, shortly after his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour wrapped up, Conan O’Brien began visiting the set of his new talk show, at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. For various reasons, the show had not been staffed yet, nor had the set been built, so on those days, O’Brien would occasionally pause en route to his office and stand alone in a giant, empty warehouse … O’Brien had lost his dream job as host of The Tonight Show in January, at a speed (seven months!) almost as humiliating as the circumstances of his departure (ousted for Jay Leno, which is the comedy-world equivalent of being left at the altar for a cast member of Jersey Shore). “My wife says those first couple of months, the thing I said most often was, ‘Wait a minute, what just happened?’” O’Brien recalls. “Those weeks after the tour, where not much was going on, Conan was miserable,” confirms his wife, Liza Powel, a blunt and dryly funny former advertising executive with whom O’Brien has two children. “That was when he was the most depressed.” Powel says she had “all sorts of grand designs” about keeping her idled spouse busy: He would be responsible for camp drop-offs, he would cook dinner at least one night a week. None of which ended up happening. O’Brien did go for long bicycle rides, and read lots of history books. At a parents’ night at their son Beckett’s preschool, there was a stack of volunteer sign-up sheets, and O’Brien, who still had too much time on his hands, became overly ambitious and started signing up for everything: “Oh, I’d love to come talk to the kids about natural history!” “He was in the house all the time,” Powel recalls. “I said, ‘This can’t last – it’ll drive us crazy!’ Literally every 10 minutes, he’d poke his head in the room and say, ‘I don’t wanna bother you, but do you know where the Band-Aids are?’ ‘I don’t wanna bother you, but do you know how to use the phone?’ He was so sweet about it, and I felt like such a jerk. But seriously, I almost rented an office for him.” The morning after O’Brien’s final Tonight Show – his second-highest- rated episode ever, quadrupling his average nightly viewership – he and Powel drove up to a resort in Montecito. “I felt like I’d just been in a car accident,” O’Brien says. “Like a crazy mix of elation, anger, sorrow. Confusion was a big one.” That night, when they entered the dining room and the other guests stood up and applauded, O’Brien says, “It almost made me cry.”

This Rolling Stone excerpt continues after the jump, where you will also find a photo from Conan‘s RS photospread as well as behind the scene video from the shoot …

'Mad' women & Jon Hamm
The Cast Of ‘Mad Men’ Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

Last month we got to see the principal cast of True Blood wearing nothing but blood on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Today we get to see the ladies and leading man of Mad Men on the cover of the new issue of RS. This time, the coverstars are fully dressed … and mostly fully stacked. Here is the just-released coverphoto along with an excerpt from the coverstory article:

In the opening scene of the new season of Mad Men, an interviewer asks Draper, “Who is Don Draper?” Rather than confess the truth — that he’s a flimflam man who fabricated his whole identity from a dead Korean War officer and built his entire life on a lie en route to a Madison Avenue advertising career — Draper merely takes a drag on his cigarette. “I’m from the Midwest,” he says. “We were taught it’s not polite to talk about yourself.” In a sense, Mad Men is Weiner’s attempt to figure out this question for himself. He has created an elaborate pageant of American fantasies — guys and dolls who look like they have it all, even when their private worlds are complete frauds. The advertising wizards of Mad Men swagger through the office, knock back cocktails, knock back lovers. They live out JFK-era America’s tawdriest dreams, almost as if it’s a professional code — to sell these dreams to America, they have to experience them from the inside, with all their inherent betrayal and manipulation. After three seasons on AMC, a basic-cable network previously known for endless reruns of second-rate movies, Mad Men established a hold on America’s fantasy life like no show since The Sopranos. “The big question the show is trying to answer through Don has to do with identity,” Weiner says. “Who am I? — It’s only the biggest theme in all of Western literature.” To make it happen, Weiner assembled a cast he could relate to — veteran actors who had spent their careers toiling in relative obscurity. Jon Hamm, who plays Draper, had a few scenes in We Were Soldiers. January Jones, who plays his brittle and ethereal ex-wife, Betty, showed up in the third American Pie movie as Stifler’s love interest. Christina Hendricks, who rules the offices of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce as Joan, appeared in a video for the Nineties rock band Everclear. Nobody wanted them. Today, everybody knows their names, everybody covets their careers, everybody wants to get next to them.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big fan of Mad Men. David loves the show and I watch it with him from time to time but nothing about the show really grabs me. I think it’s a great take on American life in the 60s and the setting details are fantastic but overall … the show bores me. Still, considering that Mad Men walked away with the Emmy Award for Best Drama this past weekend and the fact that it is so prominently featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine I think it’s safe to say that the show is well-loved. This will prolly be an issue of RS that I won’t be picking up myself but I’m certain there are quite a few MM fans out there who’ll wanna be sure to pick it up when it hits newsstands this week.

More Photos Of The ‘True Blood’ Cast In ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

Yesterday we got to see the SUPER HOT new Rolling Stone magazine cover which features True Blood stars Alexander Skarsgård, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer wearing nothing but blood spatter and today we get to see a few photos from within the pages of this issue of RS magazine that go along with the coverstory article. Here are a couple photos of the True Blood cast on set as they filmed the current 3rd season of the show:

Yeah, it’s a bummer that these photos don’t quite have the nekkid appeal that the bold coverphoto does but still, I’m sure fans of True Blood will appreciate any bit of their fave show that they can get. After the jump, check out one more new photo that features Alexander, Anna and Stephen all posed together …
