One ‘Elle’ Of An Evening

Last night, David and I were graciously invited by our good friend Joe Zee to attend Elle magazine’s Women In Music concert event at the Music Box in Hollywood to see live performances by Theophilus London, Solange Knowles and Robyn! Because David didn’t get a chance to see Robyn last Friday night and because we really wanted to see Joe, we decided to check out the event …. and we had a blast! Check out some photos and video from last night’s fun below.

Dancing NOT On My Own

Yesterday was a pretty fun day for me … a late afternoon movie preceded a surprise concert performance by Robyn which preceded a late night bar hang … and I didn’t even get hungover! Score!! My Friday was very long, very fun and full of very amazing friends. Check out some photos below from my fabulously fun Friday night.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Are Handed Out

So … last night MTV threw its biggest party of the year, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards … and despite attempts to hype up the possible drama that might’ve gone down on the show ended up giving us a fairly quiet and painfully drama-free awards show … much to many people’s chagrin. I was able to attend the show last night and from my perspective the show was OK but clearly lacking the excitement from VMA shows from days of yore. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Again, for me the carpet was kinda lackluster … kinda quiet. The Jersey Shore kids came out, some of the nominees did as well but really there wasn’t anything to get all excited about the entire time. I will say that Ciara looked the best on the carpet last night. Her dress was amazing … she was a vision just walking down the carpet. There weren’t too many fugly looks … but, as you might expect, the Jersey Shore kids brought way too much tan to the snow white carpet. After the jump, check out some photos from the show itself and find out what the Washington Post had to say about the 2010 MTV VMAs. I think you’ll find their sentiments echo the sentiments of many who watched last night …

Kelis & Robyn Kick Off The ‘All Hearts’ Tour In LA

Last night my friend Josh and I made our way to the Henry Fonda Theater to see Kelis and Robyn kick off their co-headlining All Hearts Tour in front of a packed house which was 99.9% gay. It was like church in that place, I have to tell you … but it was loads of fun:

While the tour is a co-headlining one, Kelis does go on first to get the party started. Homegirl came out in a sequined jumpsuit and a sparkly wig that looked like something Rick James might’ve worn back in the day. Now, I’ve been a Kelis fan for YEARS ever since she released her first album Kaleidoscope so I was really excited to see my girl live, on stage. I was not disappointed. Kelis KILLED her set last night. She sang hit after hit and got the crowd all riled up. I never thought it was possible for an artist to make a room full of white boys think they’ve go soul and rhythm … but Kelis did it last night. After the jump, check out some of the photos I snapped last night of Kelis and Robyn and check out some video from last night’s kick-off performance of the All Hearts Tour

2 Hearts

After spending all day and night yesterday doing a whole lotta nothin’, I’m gearing up again for an evening of fun tonight. Because everyone on Earth, it seems, already saw Inception last week while I was in France, I’m heading out later this afternoon to see the film for myself. I’ve heard good things about it and I really love Christopher Nolan‘s films so … I’m excited. Later on tonight, Josh and I will be going to see Kelis and Robyn on their All Hearts Tour at the The Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, CA:

You may recall that last month Kelis and Robyn announced that they are hittin’ the road here in the US this Summer for a co-headlining tour together which gets underway here in Hollywood tonight. I am SO excited, you can’t even believe. I understand that both ladies will be performing full sets each so it should be a really fun time in Hollywood tonight. I’ll do my best to share any fun photos that I happen to snap tonight on the blog tomorrow.

It’s the weekend, y’all!! I hope all y’all can get out there and enjoy it! Wee.

Robyn & Kelis Announce The ‘All Hearts’ Co-Headlining Tour

Hold on to your hats, y’all!! Swedish pop star Robyn and R&B songstress Kelis have decided to join forces and hit the road this summer on a co-headlining tour called The All Hearts Tour! The ladies will get the party started here in LA on July 23 at the Henry Fonda Theater (tix for which I managed to secure earlier today). Here are some deets from the press release announcement of The All Hearts Tour so YOU can plan to see this amazing show when it comes to your neck of the woods this Summer:

Robyn and Kelis will kick off a North American co-headlining tour on July 23rd at The Music Box in Los Angeles. The two recently exchanged tweets about the outing, deciding to name it the “All Hearts” tour. Robyn and Kelis have selected UK sensation Dan Black and Far East Movement, Robyn’s Cherrytree Records label mates, to kick off the festivities. Black was named as one of the Top 15 rising music stars on the BBC’s “Sound of 2009″ list and heralded in the States for his recent solo debut, UN, and its smash single/video, “Symphonies.” Far East Movement, who were recently handpicked by Lady Gaga as support, will open with their kinetic brand of hiptronica music and preside over the breaks between performers with a live version of their FM Cherrybomb DJ Spin-off, which airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. PDT at CherrytreeRadio.com. The tour will conclude at New York City’s Webster Hall on August 5th. Both Robyn and Kelis have received stellar reviews for their latest offerings. “Genius… she’s still ruling the school,” NME said recently of Robyn’s Body Talk PT 1, her new album, which is scheduled for release on June 15th. Pitchfork.com named it “best new music” earlier this week in an 8.5 out of 10 review. A mix of cool electronica, heartfelt pop and tracks that have all the hallmarks of becoming classic club and radio hits, Body Talk PT 1 is the follow-up toher self-titled 2007 album, which produced the international No. 1 smash single “With Every Heartbeat” and the Top 10 hit “Be Mine.” “Dancing On My Own,” the lead single from Body Talk PT 1,is streaming now at www.robyn.com. While in North America, Robyn will also perform at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, Montreal’s Osheaga Festival and the first-ever Disco Lemonade: Summer Mashup Festival in Toronto. Kelis’ Flesh Tone, described by The New York Times as “one of her strongest records yet,” came out recently in the U.K., where early reviews have been remarkable, including 5 stars from Glamour, 4.5 stars from NOW Magazine and an 8 out of 10 rating from NME. It appeared on spin.com’s list of “25 Summer Albums That Matter Most” … Flesh Tone will be released by will.i.am Music Group/Interscope Records in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand on July 6th. It will be available for pre-order on the iTunes Store beginning June 15th. First single “Acapella,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart and Music Week’s Pop Club Chart in the U.K. earlier this year, will be followed by “4th of July (Fireworks).” Kelis is known for such hits as “Caught Out There,” the Top 5, GRAMMY®-nominated “Milkshake” and “Bossy,” a million-selling ringtone. Fans can check out “Acapella” and “4th of July (Fireworks)” at iamkelis.com.

This has to be the BEST news ever. Both Robyn and Kelis will be releasing amazingly exciting new albums this Summer and now we will get to hear those new tracks performed LIVE on stage … on the same night! I’m very glad to hear the tour is a co-headlining one … that means both ladies will play full show sets. I honestly can’t think of a better pairing than Robyn and Kelis … I am so excited!! I’ll be there for sure on opening night … trust me, you’re gonna wanna get tix for this tour should it come to your city. This just might be the best tour of the entire Summer!

Robyn ‘Shows Me Love’

Last night my friend Tony dragged me out of the house kicking and screaming to catch the Robyn show at Spaceland in Silver Lake last night. Robyn is touring as part of the Club NME tour (that is sending acts all around the world) and performed a short set of songs … acoustically. By that I mean, just her and a tinny and horrible sounding keyboard. Tony and I met up with a bunch of his friends, including Art and Mark and we were joined by Darion and Josh who also came out for the show. All in all we had a fun time last night … here are a few pics of Robyn on stage doing her thang:

I must confess I’m not the biggest Robyn fan in the world but I kinda dig her new album’s electopop sound. Unfortch, we got none of that electropop sound last night since, as I mentioned, Robyn performed with just dude on keyboards. The keyboard didn’t sound all that great and the guy’s backing vocals were worse. Because of this, the show wasn’t the best one that I’ve ever been to but I will say that Robyn has a great voice and she managed to keep the show from being a total loss. She belted out her songs, much slower than normal, giving her fans a different take on her music. I wasn’t wowed but it wasn’t so terrible.

Here are a few pics of my friends and me last night … you will note in the first pic, Darion is putting the moves on a guy in the crowd …

… unfortch for D, the dude already has a boyfriend. Ah well. Darion did have better luck later on in the night. We spied Amanda Bynes in the crowd …

… and he managed to get a photo with her (she also complimented him on his “beautiful eyes”). In the end, I’m really glad that Tony coaxed me into going out … as always, he is really fun to hang out with and I had a nice night out with my friends.

Not sure what’s on tap for today … I am still on the hunt for a Halloween costume … ideas?
