Vanilla Ice Wants To Become An Actor

In an attempt to revive his failed rap career — much like Marky Mark Wahlberg did after he ditched The Funky Bunch and transitioned into the world of acting — Vanilla Ice (neé Robert Van Winkle) is trying to break into the acting world. Already cast in a new Adam Sandler film, Van Winkle is hoping his acting skills will bring him new fame and glory. Like it or not, Vanilla Ice is going for an Oscar, y’all.

Vanilla Ice Gets Injured While Ice Dancing On ‘Dancing On Ice’

Here in the US, washed up has-been celebs try to attain fame and fortune again by competing on Dancing with the Stars. The “celebs” who are even wore off than the DWTS folks end up competing on Skating with Celebrities. In the UK, those folks compete on a show called Dancing on Ice … and this year, Vanilla Ice (nee Robert Van Winkle) is among the contestants. Despite his name, it turns out that Vanilla Ice is NOT a very good ice dancer. While preparing for competition, the guy bashed his head on the ice so bad that he got knocked unconscious.

Vanilla Ice Finds Work In A Long Island Bar

Vanilla Ice (nee Robert Van Winkle) is becoming a bit of a staple here on the blog … a few weeks ago we learned that he is starring in a beer commercial down in South Africa and a week or so after that we learned that he celebrated his 42nd birthday at Studio 54 inside the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Today we get to see a bunch of photos of V. Ice doing his thang (whatever it is that his thang is these days) at a bar in Long Island, NY earlier this week:

It turns out that Vanilla was on hand to play guest bartender at McFadden’s Bar in, what can only be assumed as, an attempt to make some extra money on the side. Surely the residuals from his Ice, Ice Baby days can’t be as lucrative as they once were so … you can’t really blame a guy for getting a second job, especially in this tough economy. It looks like he is a heavy-handed pourer … he might actually have a future in bartending!

Vanilla Ice Celebrates His 42nd Birthday In Las Vegas

Robert Van Winkle, better known to the world as Vanilla Ice, is celebrating his 42nd birthday today but Mr. Ice Ice Baby got the party started a bit early when he partied hearty at the Studio 54 nightclub inside the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV last night. Here are a few photos of V. Ice celebrating his 42nd at Studio 54 last night:

I understand that Vanilla Ice performed at the club’s Nightmare on 54th Street Halloween Celebration and sang a few of his classic hits … from Ice, Ice Baby to Ninja Rap (from the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles II: The Secret of the Ooze) … before heading up to the VIP skybox to celebrate his birthday after midnight. I love that Ice took time out of his bizzy beer commercial shootin’ schedule to party with the folks in Sin City. Happy Birthday, RVW!!

Vanilla Ice Sells Beer In South Africa

Entertainment Weekly‘s Pop Watch blog pointed me in the direction of a TV commercial for South African beer Castle Light which features none other than Robert Van Winkle, better known to the world as Vanilla Ice. HMMM … who knew he was still gettin’ work? Here are a few screencaps from V. Ice‘s South African beer commercial:

Thunder from Down Under
The 2009 MTV Australia Awards Are Handed Out

MTV Australia handed out their annual Video Music Awards in Sydney last night and managed to bring a bunch of music stars down under for the lavish affair. Pete Wentz played host of the show while Hills star Audrina Patridge played host on the red carpet. Here are a few photos of some of the folks who came out for the MTV Australia Awards last night some deets from the event itself:

Hollywood starlet Ashlee Simpson joined her rocker husband Pete Wentz for an intimate moment on stage at the MTV Australia Awards. The couple surprised audiences with a lengthy kiss after introducing Kings of Leon performing via satellite from New Zealand. “Sorry we haven’t seen each other in a while,” Simpson said. “So we’re going to find a quiet place to go fornicate.” Wentz hosted the annual bash in Sydney, following in the footsteps of Simpson who hosted a few years ago. “I hosted this three years ago so I’m pretty much alumni,” Simpson said. Another surprise came in the form of 1990s rapper Vanilla Ice, who sang his hit Ice Ice Baby – delighting the crowd. Wentz showed off some rockstar antics by diving into the crowd as the Kaiser Chiefs launched into their song Never Miss A Beat. It was very much the Fall Out Boy bassist’s night as his band picked up the Best Rock Video award for their track I Don’t Care. US pop star Pink clinched best video for So What, while former Australian Idol Jessica Mauboy was crowned favourite Aussie. Katy Perry won the breakthrough artist gong, Britney Spears nabbed the best moves trophy, and Aussie band Sneaky Sound System got the independent spirit award. Earlier a raft of stars, including Australian glamour girls Dannii Minogue, Delta Goodrem and Lara Bingle, walked the red carpet at the award ceremony. Audrina Patridge from US reality TV show The Hills delivered gossip from the red carpet, joined by MTV presenters Darren McMullen, Ruby Rose and Maz Compton. US band The Killers opened the show at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour, followed by The Fray, Mauboy, Sia, Kaiser Chiefs, and Kings of Leon (via satellite). Later in the night Australian band Wolfmother rocked out with the world debut of their new single, Background.

Sounds like the Aussies had themselves a great time yesterday. For me, here in the US, it’s so strange to think of MTV VMA award shows happening at different times of the year in other countries. Because MTV traditionally has their big bash at the end of Summer, it’s weird for me to think that other MTV outlets around the world have their parties this early in the year. I think it’s really nice of MTV OZ to not only invite Vanilla Ice to their shindig but to allow him to perform as well. Mebbe we can get MC Hammer to do the same when we have our VMAs later this year. In any event, congrats to all the MTV OZ winners. Woot!
