‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Kicks Off Mall Tour In Hollywood

And away they go ...
Saturday, November 7th, 2009

And so it begins … the principal cast of The Twilight Saga: New Moon were on hand for an in-store appearance at the Hollywood & Highland Complex here in Hollywood, CA to kick off a nationwide mall tour that will take various members of the cast in various incarnations to malls around the US so that fans can press the flesh with their fave Twilight stars … and to hear live music from bands like Deathcab For Cutie, Anya Marina, Band of Skulls and more. A horde of rabid Twilighters filled the open-air mall last night just to get as close to Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kellan Lutz and Kristen Stewart as possible … behold:

The scene was electric outside of Los Angeles’ Hollywood & Highland open-air mall on Friday evening. A huge line snaked out into the streets, and much of the crowd looked strikingly similar: gaggles of teenage girls (plus guys, moms, dads, and little ones) in black T-shirts emblazoned with five key words: The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Awaiting them inside? Autographs and a Q&A with the film’s supporting cast, plus courtyard performances from four bands who contributed to New Moon’s excellent soundtrack: Band Of Skulls, Sea Wolf, Anya Marina and, to close it out, Death Cab For Cutie. In other words, this was the Hot Topic-sponsored New Moon mall tour. One of the first fans to the stage screamed to no one in particular, “Oh my God! This is the coolest thing ever!” And for the crowd that braved the odds to get there – camping out at the mall on Halloween eve to buy the shirt that would grant them their entrance – it truly seemed to be. The coolness began when Twilight heartthrobs Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner paid a surprise visit. On stage, opening with their bluesy “I Know What I Am,” U.K. three-piece Band Of Skulls burned through a set that ran just shy of 20 minutes and channeled bits of the White Stripes, Black Sabbath, and the Black Keys. An apropos performance of “Hollywood Bowl” prefaced the closing song – their garagey New Moon contribution, “Friends,” which was met with squeals at an octave previously reserved for the likes of the Beatles. Indie folk-poppers Sea Wolf followed, delivering a cello-swathed selection of songs whose titles were matched to the event: “You’re A Wolf,” from 2007’s Leaves In The River, “Turn The Dirt Over” and “Wicked Blood,” both off of the just-released White Water, White Bloom, and the at once bouncy and autumnal soundtrack piece “The Violet Hour.” Both were impressive, but Anya Marina, whose “Satellite Heart” is one of New Moon’s most captivating moments, stole the show. “What’s up Hollywood? Are you guys having fun?” the grinning singer asked to a chorus of shrieks. “Well, we want to have fun with you.” She meant it. Marina was the only musician to engage the exuberant crowd – at one point leading them in a “Team Jacob” vs. “Team Edward” cheer-off – and it paid off. Her ubiquitous hits “Vertigo” and “All The Same To Me” were extremely well-received. Another surprise, mostly lost on the audience, was regular Morrissey collaborator Alain Whyte manning guitar, especially shredding on “Afterparty At Jimmy’s.” At the other end of the spectrum, Death Cab For Cutie greeted the incredible mania with zero banter and two songs – New Moon single “Meet Me At The Equinox” and Narrow Stairs highlight “Cath…” – well-performed, but over far too soon. The band said their thanks, unplugged and walked off. Before the ensuing melee caused by the rush to see Pattinson and Stewart up close, we asked one fan if she had a favorite band on the soundtrack. “I don’t really listen to this kind of music,” said Carmina, backed by an army of self-described “Twi-tards.” “But I like it now!”

Not since Tiffany took the US by storm with her mall tour back in 1987 have mall tours been this hot. To be honest, anything attached to The Twilight Saga franchise will generate huge interest … you throw in the actors themselves and you could sell anything at a high premium. Lord, this is just the beginning of the fervent Twilight melee that is about to be unleashed upon the world. The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens in theaters in just a few weeks … I don’t know that we’re quite ready to handle the onslaught … but it’s comin’ nonetheless.

Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson Do ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ Magazine

"She's a unique girl. You really don't meet many people like Kristen."
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, the principal stars of The Twilight Saga movie franchise, are featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine in order to promote their upcoming sequel film The Twilight Saga: New Moon. In their joint coverstory interview, K. Stew and R. Pattz talk at length … about each other. To be honest, it’s a cute read … here is their cover of HB mag and some excerpts from the coverstory article:

Rob Pattinson’s and Kristen Stewart’s rooms sit side by side on the thirtysomethingth floor of the Sheraton hotel in Vancouver (”the Couve,” as Kristen calls it), where they are filming Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight saga. They spend a lot of time in their rooms in the sky — two Rapunzels of sorts entertaining themselves behind closed doors — because it’s really, really hard to go out. “There are like 15 different exits in this place,” observes Kristen of the tactics she and the rest of the Twilight cast use to avoid the paparazzi. She adds, “Rob is more frustrated with it, but he’s 23 and I’m 19. He had a couple more years to be an adult and to be independent, whereas just as I was getting to the age when it’s normal to go out by yourself …” She pauses. “But it’s boring because this is all I fucking talk about.” Rob talks about it too. “Do you mind if we sit outside?” he asks as he stands in his hotel room, looking longingly out the window. “I need some air.” It’s a cold, gray day, but who is to deny him some freedom? (And chivalry is not dead, girls. A young man will still lend you his jacket. Maybe because he is British.) Rob doesn’t just face paparazzi, he gets clawing, shrieking girls too. New Yorkers may remember he was clipped by a cab while fleeing from the ladies on the set of Remember Me this past summer. “But at least that’s an experience, something new,” he says. “If it’s just screaming — and I know this sounds so ridiculous — that gets old. But sometimes when there’s literal chaos, it’s like being in a war zone, and that’s kind of exciting. You’re just running through the crowd of people chasing after you and no one knows what’s going on” … At the moment, there is only one thing anyone cares about regarding these two, who, as Twilight’s Bella and Edward, manifest all of our vampiric romance fetishes: Are they dating or what? Well … it’s clear that Rob and Kristen are close — very close. Okay, who is the most romantic then? “I have a no-bullshit detector,” says Kristen, “so I’d have to say Rob is. I think romance is anything honest. As long as it’s honest, it’s so disarming.” Rob chuckles when asked the same question. “Um, I don’t know. What did Kristen say?” You. “No. I’m better at faking.” This is followed by a very long laugh … Of the two, it seems Kristen wears the pants. (While she will admit to one girlish thing, a love of Chanel, her dream outfit is a custom Brooks Brothers suit.) When she ventures into a dress, it might just be covered in metal, like the Rock & Republic mini she wore to the Teen Choice Awards earlier this year. “Everyone was like, ‘Look at your spiky skirt!’” she says with a grin, “and I was like, ‘Spiky skirt? They were bullets, mofo!’” She gets some stick in the media for not suffering fools. “People think I’m trying to be rebellious, but that’s the last thing I’m doing,” she says. “But I would hate myself if I tried to satisfy the people who have a problem with the way I speak about myself, so it’s okay.” “Kristen doesn’t take any slack,” Rob says. “She sticks to her guns — and that’s difficult to do.” He also thinks she’s a better actor than he is. “I don’t really know how to act. I’m kind of guessing everything. … Even though I can conceptualize stuff, she can actually do it. I can make something so complex and then be like, That was pout 27.” He reckons she’s a better judge of character too. “She’ll decide on someone a lot quicker. She has a lot more self-esteem than I do, so she’s like, ‘You’re an idiot and I don’t want to talk to you,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m an idiot too!’ So I’ll talk to an idiot for like three days before deciding.”

The back and forth banter of this interview carries on from there. After the jump, checkout a few photos from Kristen and Rob’s Harper’s Bazaar photospread (the photos are pretty fantastic, I have to say) and read some more from their HB interview …

Robert Pattinson & Taylor Lautner Promote ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Abroad, Apart

Vampire in Japan, Werewolf in Mexico
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Yesterday we saw photos of Robert Pattinson making his grand arrival in Tokyo, Japan where he will be for the next few days promoting his new film The Twilight Saga: New Moon. We also learned yesterday that Taylor Lautner would be in Mexico doing the same promo work there. Today we get to see photos of R. Pattz and Tay Tay in their respective countries doing their respective duties for the film they are currently promoting … separately:

I suspect that as the time grows closer to the film’s release in theaters, these actors will also grow closer in their promo duties. Surely R. Pattz and Taylor Lautner (and others) will be together for the NYC and/or LA premieres of the film … but for now, they are being far flung to the ends of the Earth to spread the promo duties. Team Edward or Team Jacob … take your pick … and choose your hemisphere.

Robert Pattinson Pops Up In Japan

Promo for 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' heads to the Land of the Rising Sun
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Earlier today we saw the first photos of Robert Pattinson on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine but it turns out that R. Pattz is currently in Japan where he is doing some promo work for the his new sequel film The Twilight Saga: New Moon which opens in theaters later on this month. Here are pics of Robbie making his grand arrival in Tokyo over the weekend:

New Moon hysteria has hit Japan, with Twilight star Robert Pattinson arriving in the country to promote the film … [over the weekend] R-Patz [was photographed] strolling through the airport, looking pretty happy to sign autographs for adoring fans. And he had better get that autograph-signing arm ready – with New Moon ready to hit cinemas later this month, the worldwide promotion machine is only just kicking into gear. The Volturi vampires have already hit the red carpet to promote the movie at the Rome film festival, and the rest of the Twilight stars will no doubt be popping up on other red carpets around the world, as November 20 creeps closer.

Yes, as you may recall a couple weeks ago we saw photos of Cameron Bright and Jamie Campbell Bower (who play Volturi vampires in New Moon) at the Rome International Film Festival doing promo for the film … and now we know that Pattinson will be dazzling in the Land of the Rising Sun. I understand that Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner visited Brazil over the weekend and will be heading to Mexico next to do promo work as well. Everyone involved in The Twilight Saga: New Moon will be hard at work in the coming weeks generating as much buzz as they can for the film’s release … are y’all ready for the onslaught?

Robert Pattinson Does ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

“I’m unbearably self-conscious about stuff”
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

When last we saw Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson inside the pages of Vanity Fair magazine, he was sharing the spotlight with some of his Twilight costars in order to promote the first Twilight film. R. Pattz wasn’t even showcased on the magazine’s cover! This time around, Pattinson has a new film to promote, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and not only is he featured in the mag all by his lonesome but he is also featured on the magazine’s cover for his very own coverstory:

It’s been exactly one year since Twilight, the teenage-vampire book series turned film franchise, became a worldwide phenomenon, launching brooding, reluctant star Robert Pattinson into the celebrity stratosphere. Not since Leonardo DiCaprio’s Titanic era has there been a young actor so rabidly hunted by teenagers and paparazzi alike—enough that mere sightings of him with his co-star and rumored paramour Kristen Stewart make for international front-page news. For the cover story of Vanity Fair’s December issue, contributing editor Evgenia Peretz interviews Pattinson, Stewart, and a host of Twilight insiders for an intimate profile that describes how he landed the role of Edward Cullen, distills the essence of his appeal, and explores his discomfort with the hormone-fueled frenzy he inspires among his fans. Peretz, who, as it happens, profiled DiCaprio in 2004, follows the Byronic British actor from the Comic-Con convention in San Diego to the Waldorf Towers in New York City, as he prepares for the November 20 release of Twilight’s sequel, New Moon. There are no wild nights out at clubs—even if he could go out without being mobbed, Pattinson would prefer to curl up with a good book. Rather than working his way through supermodels, Pattinson, who’s been living out of three suitcases for the past year, has been feeling overwhelmed, self-conscious, and guilty. “I’m trying not to drown,” he says in his hotel room at the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel, which is littered today with beer bottles, old scrambled eggs, a half-eaten Twix bar, and a dirty pair of jeans on the living-room floor. And he notices that he hasn’t made his bed. “Oh, God. Sorry about that.” “I’m unbearably self-conscious about stuff,” he admits. To the point where, while filming scenes before the army of New York paparazzi that has been following him around, he is terrified that his “ass crack is showing.” Raised outside London in a small village, with a wavering desire to be either a musician or an actor, Pattinson is painfully modest about his talent and looks, and eternally confused by his fans’ devotion. Despite the fact that he is an exquisite beauty—with perfectly formed red, red lips and a face that might have been dreamed by the Romantic poets—he thinks he resembles “a cartoon character.” One of his legs is longer than the other, which makes him look, he assures you, “like an idiot.” He’s sure he’s driving people crazy by constantly talking about how he can’t leave his hotel room. And he sees his inability to relish his fans’ reverence as his own shortcoming. “I guess I’m not the type of guy cut out to do a franchise,” he says. “I’m not much of a crowd person.”

Yeah, thus far this sounds like the Robert Pattison that we’ve come to know and lurve … painfully shy, terribly awkward and absolutely unassuming even tho he is the hottest commodity in Hollywood right now … with perfect hair!!! After the jump, check out a few photos of R. Pattz in this issue of VF and read a few more excerpts from his coverstory interview …

Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson Depart From Vancouver, BC

Wrap and roll
Friday, October 30th, 2009

Earlier this week we learned that filming production has wrapped in Vancouver, BC on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (the third film in the franchise) and that the cast and crew gathered last weekend to celebrate at the official wrap party. Today we get to see photos of principal stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson making their way thru the airport on their way out of Vancouver, presumably bound for their individual homes:

And that, folks, is that. If these two are leaving town then all the important filming is truly finished for Eclipse in Vancouver. While the actors may pop up elsewhere in the world to film some more scenes, I don’t expect any of the actors will be back in Vancouver again … until production starts up on the final sequel film Breaking Dawn. So I guess there won’t be any more vampire or werewolf sightings in Vancouver for a while … well, at least after Hallowe’en :)

Robert Pattinson Does ‘AnOther Man’ Magazine

“It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
Monday, September 28th, 2009

Robert Pattinson, Twilight star and world-wide heartthrob du jour, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of AnOther Man magazine (the magazine that attempts to “speak to the ‘other’ man, a man not being catered to currently by fashion magazines”). Trying to pull off his best “James Dean“, R. Pattz looks and sounds moody in his new coverstory interview. Here is our first look at his AnOther Man coverphoto and a preview of his coverstory interview:

DazedDigital previews issue 9 of AnOther Man out on October 1, which features Robert Pattinson on the cover, shot by Hedi Slimane and styled by Nicola Formichetti. Dave Calhoun speak to the 23-year-old Twilight star about the pressures of fame and the craft of acting: “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life” … Here is an excerpt from the Robert Pattinson feature written by Dave Calhoun. Was Pattinson aware of the loyalty of fans of the Twilight books? It looks like the sort of obsessive fandom that can turn into anger and even hatred when an adaptation isn’t to their liking. Did he know what he was letting himself in for? “It’s strange because even though the figures show that the books were successful and sold millions of copies, you couldn’t even buy them in London. I tried a couple of bookshops and they weren’t available. Hardly anyone I knew had read them apart from one girl, a friend of my sister. I had no idea at all. I’d seen Kristen Stewart in Into the Wild and some of the director Catherine Hardwicke’s other films, and that’s all I thought it was, something really small.” His manner is very laid back. He doesn’t sound thrusting or ambitious, more like he’s just going with the flow and enjoying things. Is he going to harness his newfound fame and box-office appeal to approach the kind of filmmakers he wants to work with in the future? He’s not so sure. “Annoyingly, there are so few parts I feel I can add anything to, or that I want to do.” But he knows what he doesn’t need. “I don’t want to be an actor for the sake of it. I don’t find any particular pleasure in being an attention-seeker.”

I dunno if R. Pattz will really be able to craft a serious and successful acting career out of the Twilight movies but he will be insanely rich … so whether or not he achieves the critical acclaim that he say she wants, he’ll have a helluva lotta money to make up for it. He’ll also have his good looks to carry him thru — at least for a little while. After the jump, check out a couple more photos from Rob’s AnOther Man photospread …
