Rob Zombie‘s remake or reimagining, if you will, of the horror classic Halloween II opens in theaters this weekend … timed perfectly with the news that Zombie has signed on to remake/reimagine the even older horror classic 1958 film The Blob (click HERE to watch the original movie trailer for the original film). Considering that I have yet to see what he did with Halloween II (tho, I deffo hope to find out this weekend) and only marginally liked what he did with Halloween, I’ll reserve judgment … for now. Zombie claims that he plans to revamp the Blob monster for his film … I have to admit, I’m curious to see what he comes up with:

After reviving the “Halloween” franchise, Rob Zombie will next reinvent “The Blob.” Zombie will write, direct and produce a remake of the 1958 horror classic that launched the career of Steve McQueen. Production will begin next spring. Zombie’s deal to make “The Blob” his next film comes as Dimension opens “Halloween II,” the Zombie-directed sequel to his 2007 hit “Halloween.” In the original “Blob,” an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. While Zombie was a fan of the original, he’s formulated a decidedly different take that he would not reveal. “My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change,” Zombie said. “That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now” … Saperstein, the former Dimension Films president who developed a relationship with Zombie while they worked on “Halloween,” said that funding is in place to make an R-rated film that will cost around $30 million. The budget model is similar to that of recent fright fare like “Cloverfield” and “District 9,” and they expect to firm a distribution deal before production begins. Genre Co. is in pre-production on the independently financed, Darren Bousman-directed remake “Mother’s Day.” “I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space,” Zombie said. “I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to.” Zombie has begun writing. He’ll follow the release of “Halloween II” with a new album and tour this fall and get the script done at that time.

Blah. I dunno. While I do agree that a straight reinterpretation of the original film would be comical in this day and age (I seem to recall the 1988 remake of The Blob was ill-received at the box office), I’m not sure I’m too confident that any sort of Blob monster will be scary. My guess is that Zombie will go for gore more than horror … which doesn’t sound all that appealing to me. Still … I’m intrigued. I deffo want to see Halloween II so that I can have a better opinion of Rob Zombie‘s remaking skills.

Halloween II, the horror film remake helmed by rocker/director Rob Zombie, had its Los Angeles premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA last night. As you might expect, the event was a star-studded affair that managed to bring out all the biggest names in Hollywood … or, mebbe just the cast of the movie (including Scout Taylor-Compton, Danielle Harris and Zombie wife Sheri Moon) and a few extra folks like Shar Jackson and her eldest daughter Cassie (who was not fathered by Kevin Federline, in case you were wondering). To be completely honest, I think the sight of Rob Zombie‘s patchwork pants are the scariest thing I think I have ever laid my eyes on … one hopes that his remake of this classic horror film is just as scary. Somehow, I doubt it. Nonetheless, I am very excited to see the film anyways. I LOVE the original Halloween and Halloween II and while Zombie‘s remake of Halloween didn’t necessarily wow me, I am holding out hope that he stepped up his game for Halloween II. The film opens in theaters this Friday … just in time for Halloween but 2 months early. Yeah, I dunno why either … but there you have it. Who’s gonna be there on opening day?

Spike TV culled together various celebrities from the world of horror, sci-fi, superherodom and more to their annual Scream Awards which were held this year at the Greek Theater here in LA last night. Each year, Spike gives out awards that honor achievement in comics, fantasy, horror and sci-fi because, well, who else is gonna do it? Here are a few pics of some of the folks who came out to strut their stuff on the red carpet at the 2008 Spike Scream Awards last night:

Even tho the awards were handed out at the Greek Theater last night, we’re gonna hafta wait until the show airs on Spike at 9PM on Tuesday night. So, if you’re interested to know who took home awards in the categories of Best Science Fiction Movie, Best Villain, Most Memorable Mutilation, Holy S@#$! Scene of the Year and more then you’re gonna hafta tune on Tuesday night. I will say that Julie Benz (Dexter/Saw V actress who was nominated for Best Actress: Horror Movie or TV Show) looked utterly amazing on the red carpet. Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez made a supercute couple and Gary Oldman just rules the world. It should be noted that Smashing Pumpkins performed live at the awards last night so … it might be worth checking out. Now, I have no idea who won what but I am rootin’ for Ms. Benz to win her award. I can’t wait to watch the show to see if she ended up walking home with her very own Spike Scream Award.
