Rihanna Does ‘Glamour’ Magazine

"I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears."
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Earlier today we got our first look at Rihanna’s new music video for her song Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova) and right now we get to see her on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Glamour magazine. Glamour is the first magazine she spoke with publicly about the assault she endured from ex-boyfriend Chris Brown back in February. In her coverstory interview, Rihanna opens up about that horrible experience in a very open way. Here is Rihanna’s Glamour cover and some excerpts from her coverstory interview:

Months after being attacked by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, Rihanna is speaking out about her healing process in December issue of Glamour magazine. “My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see,” she says. “They have followed every step of my recovery. “The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.” Named Glamour’s 2009 Woman of the Year, Rihanna, 21, will be honored in a special ceremony at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Nov. 9. In addition to opening up about her difficult year, the singer – and fashionista – will also appear in a pictorial spread, wearing clothing by Balmain, Gucci and Jason Wu. As for the massive scrutiny following the February 2009 attack, Rihanna says, “I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day.” And, she says, the past nine months have been a source of growth and strength. “I am stronger, wiser and more aware. You don’t realize how much your decisions affect people you don’t even know, like fans.” The singer has already released the power ballad “Russian Roulette” off her fourth album, Rated R, due in stores Nov. 23. “I’ve put everything I’ve wanted to say for the past eight months into my music,” she says. “[It's] super fearless – which is exactly how I feel right now. I am in a really good place.”

Rihanna’s interview is much more substantive than is presented here. After the jump, check out a few photos from her Glamour photospread and read a few more quotes form this powerful coverstory …

Rihanna Releases A Music Video For ‘Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova)’

The wait is ova, for real this time
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

A couple weeks ago we got our first listen of Rihanna’s new single Russian Roulette (the first single from her new album titled Rated R) but shortly after that song was released to radio, we learned that she was already prepping the release of a second single. Today Rihanna released a music video for that second single titled Wait Your Turn (The Wait is Ova) on her official website … here are a few screencaps from this new video:

The video is not bad … the song is another slow jam but I like it much better than Russian Roulette. Check it out after the jump and judge for yourselves …

First Look: Rihanna, ‘Rated R’

Edgy
Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Last week we got our first look at the cover artwork for Rihanna’s new single Russian Roulette, the first from her new album Rated R due out on November 23. Today, courtesy of PopEater, we get our first look at the album cover artwork for Rated R itself … behold:

You’ve probably seen Rihanna’s racy single cover, and now PopEater is proud to exclusively premiere the cover for her impending album, ‘Rated R.’ The grainy black-and-white cover shows the R&B queen draped in hand jewelry and covering one eye. The album, which is set to be released on Monday, Nov. 23, is Rihanna’s first album since 2007’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad.’ It is also Rihanna’s first album since she was assaulted by boyfriend Chris Brown in February. The ‘Rated R’ cover was shot by famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who says that “Rihanna was looking to create something a bit new for the look of the album.” Von Unwerth goes on to say that Rihanna is “so beautiful, sweet and tough at the same time — and a pleasure to shoot,” adding that she’s “fantastic to work with — very giving, very creative, very involved in every aspect of the shoot, and ready to push the boundaries.”

As far as album covers go, this is one ain’t too shabby. The look of the photo reminds me of the photospread Ri Ri did for Italian Vogue over the Summer. To be honest, I expected the album artwork to be more racy … I like that it’s kinda understated. I’m SO dying to hear this album tho … the photos are nice and all but it’s all about the music. I can’t wait to hear more from Rated R. As far as the coverphoto goes, tho, what do y’all think … do you like?

Is Rihanna Ready To Release A 2nd Single Already?

At last, 'The Wait Is Ova'?
Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Mere days after Rihanna released the first single, Russian Roulette, from her new album, Rated R, it is being reported that Ri Ri is already planning the release of her second single, The Wait Is Ova. As you may recall, we saw video of Rihanna filming a music video in NYC last week and the line The Wait Is Ova could clearly be heard in the video. It sounds like she was shooting the video for her second single which is now rumored to be released a few weeks before her album hits stores on November 23. Here is a new promo pic of Rihanna along with the deets of this second single report:

According to one of the RihannaDaily.com sources and adressa.no, “The Wait Is Ova” is the second single of Rihanna’s upcoming album: Rated R. Mikkel Storleer Eriksen and Stargate produced the song, and he can report good news from Rihanna’s record label. “We were just told that they go for ‘The Wait Is Ova’ as next single and that it will launch in a few weeks before the album release. It means a lot to us to be a part of a single-release in this format,” said an elated Mikkel Eriksen to Adressa.no. Mikkel says he is very pleased that Rihanna chose just “Russian Roulette” as the first single. “Yes. We love the song. It was written by Ne-Yo, and we hope it can help pull up our song too,” said Mikkel. “Our song is pretty atypical Rihanna and has a much harder sound than ‘Russian Roulette’.”

Now, it should be noted that RihannaDaily is a fan site but the information they provide fits in with what we’ve been seeing/hearing ourselves. Beyoncé is very fond of releasing two singles at a time so it makes sense that Rihanna would want to follow suit … a slower jam and a more upbeat track. We should know shortly if this report of a second single is true or not … my gut tells me that it is. The wait may finally be ova, indeed.

First Look: Rihanna, ‘Russian Roulette’

Check out the coverart for Ri Ri's new single
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Yesterday we got to see video from Rihanna’s video shoot for her new music video, which we now know is titled Russian Roulette (it was incorrectly believed the track was titled The Wait Is Ova), and today we get our first look at the cover artwork for the single. We also learn today that her new album, due for release on November 23, is titled Rated R. Russian Roulette will be debuting on radio and then on her official website today but while we wait to hear the song, let’s check out Rihanna’s new single cover artwork and read the accompanying press release:

THE WAIT IS OVA!!! RIHANNA’s NEW ALBUM – RATED R – HITS MONDAY, NOV. 23rd

“Russian Roulette,” first new single pick –written by Ne-Yo – launches worldwide Oct. 20th on radio and on official Rihanna website
“Russian Roulette” video to premiere on ABC-TV
Long-awaited follow-up to 2007’s worldwide multi-platinum Good Girl Gone Bad

(October 20, 2009 – New York, NY) The wait is ova – for one of the most hotly anticipated new albums in recent history, as multi-platinum, award-winning Def Jam recording artist Rihanna announces the completion of her fourth original studio album, Rated R, scheduled to arrive in the physical and digital marketplace on Monday, November 23rd. Rated R’s first single pick, “Russian Roulette” will be launched at 11:23am EST on October 20th worldwide on http://rihannanow.com. The “Russian Roulette” video, directed by Anthony Mandler, will premiere in prime-time on ABC. “Russian Roulette” was written and produced by fellow Def Jam artist Ne-Yo, whose long track record with Rihanna includes the #1 hit “Unfaithful” (2006, from A Girl Like Me), their Top 10 duet “Hate That I Love You” (2007, from Good Girl Gone Bad), and #1 pop/ #1 R&B “Take A Bow” (2008, from Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded). In addition to Ne-Yo, other producers and writers on Rihanna’s new album include the team of The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, Chase & Status, Stargate, Justin Timberlake and more. Rated R is the long-awaited follow-up to Good Girl Gone Bad (May 2007), which contained the non-stop string of hit singles that began with the MTV VMA and Grammy Award-winning global #1 hit “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z), then “Shut Up and Drive,” “Hate That I Love You” (featuring Ne-Yo), and “Don’t Stop the Music.” Good Girl Gone Bad spent 98 total weeks on the Soundscan chart, earned cumulative sales of more than 36-times platinum in at least 20 territories around the world, and spun off the CD+DVD package Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded (January 2009) – which continued the string of hits with the #1 “Take A Bow,” and the #1 “Disturbia.” Good Girl Gone Bad was the third album release in less than two years by the 21-year old Barbados native Rihanna. It followed-up 2006’s RIAA platinum A Girl Like Me, which contained the back-to-back hits, “S.O.S.” and “Unfaithful”; and her RIAA gold debut from 2005, Music Of the Sun, featuring the world-wide smash, “Pon De Replay.”

Oh look … the song is online now, click HERE to check it out in full. I just gave it a listen and … liked it … but ………. it’s too slow a jam for me to really get into. I’ll have to give the song a few more listens but, yeah, it didn’t immediately grab me. Take a listen and tell me what y’all think.

First Listen: Rihanna, ‘The Wait Is Ova’?

It would seem we now know the title of Ri Ri's new single
Monday, October 19th, 2009

Last Saturday we saw photos of Rihanna on the set of her new music video and you may recall she was rockin’ an eye patch for the shoot. Today we get to see more photos from the music video shoot AND we get to hear a snippet of the song itself. First up, the pics:

You may recall that Rihanna posted a tweet on her official Twitter profile which announced the presumed release date of her new album (November 23) along with the line The Wait Is Ova. It was speculated that that might be the title of her album … and it very well may be … but new video from the shoot of her music video gives us a sneak listen of the first single and the line The Wait Is Ova is clearly heard in the song. Chances are, that’s the name of the single (and possibly the album as well). After the jump, check out the video and hear for yourselves …

Rihanna Lets The Fur Fly

Fashion Forward?
Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Just yesterday we saw photos of Rihanna shooting a new music video in NYC for her as yet unannounced new single from her new album due out on November 23 … and today we get to see her out and about on the streets of NY last night rockin’ a very … interesting … scarf-thing:

I’m not sure how many Collies had to be skinned so that Ri Ri could have her scarf but … yeah, I don’t like it. Man, and I was just saying how I like that Rihanna doesn’t wear stuff that’s too out there … and she has to go and step out on the town lookin’ like her head is sticking out of the abominable snowwoman’s vagina. Not a good look. I still love her tho ;)
