Proud papa Ricky Martin, who became a father to a pair of twin boys via surrogate mother last August, is showing off his sons Matteo and Valentino on his official website. As you may recall, Ricky debuted his sons on the cover of People en Español last December and when last we saw him out and about with his sons, the family was out for a chilly winter stroll in NYC last January. Here is a new photo of Ricky, Matteo and Valentino posing for photographer Pablo Alfaro in the family’s latest portrait:

He used to live the “vida loca,” but life has slowed down considerably for Ricky Martin since welcoming his fraternal twins, Matteo and Valentino, by gestational surrogate last August. Sharing personal photos of himself enjoying the sun and surf with the boys on his Web site, Martin, 37, says that fatherhood “feels amazing.” “I’m so happy! Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing,” Martin says of his 1-year-old twins. “This has been the most spiritual moment in my life.”

He is SUCH a mom! His baby boys are so cute and already one year old … where does the time go. To be honest, with cute kids like these, I can totes understand why he’d be very happy and willing to show them off to the world wide web. When last we saw new papa Ricky Martin he was posing on the cover of People En Español magazine introducing his twin sons Matteo and Valentino to the world. Since then, father and sons have been keeping a relatively low profile out of the public eye. At last, the Martin men have surfaced in NYC where they were spied enjoying a brisk winter stroll in Central Park last week:

Despite the frigid temps, Ricky thought it would be nice to bundle up his boys and pack them into a baby stroller to push them around in the cold NYC weather … tho, I’m not sure why. In any event, it appears that Ricky is happily enjoying his new role as single dad. I seem to recall that Ricky was seriously dating some chick a couple of years ago but we don’t hear very much about any love interest in his life these days. I wonder whatever happened to that chick? Since Ricky‘s sons were born via gestational surrogacy, I assume the woman who bore the children is not at all involved with Ricky or the twins at all. HMMM. Clearly, Ricky heeded the call of his biological clock and decided to take on fatherhood all on his own. I wonder if he will ever find true, honest love. As wonderful as being a parent is, I’m sure, I hope he is able to be honest with himself and find that special someone to share his life and his new family with.

Unfortch, Ricky and his babies are not featured on the cover of People magazine (that honor was left for a coverstory about Tom Cruise‘s Life in Pictures) but Ricky and his twins are featured inside the new issue of People. Born via surrogate in early August, Ricky Martin’s 4-month-old twin boys make their debut in this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. A joyful Martin, 36, spoke candidly with PEOPLE at home in Puerto Rico about his desire to be a parent, the decision to seek the help of a surrogate and juggling caring for twins – he has no nanny!

Describe this time in your life
I’m so happy! Everything they do, from smiling to crying, feels like a blessing. Being a father feels amazing. This has been the most spiritual moment in my life.

How hands-on are you as a father?
I don’t have a nanny. I’m doing this on my own because I don’t want to miss a moment. I have a personal assistant who helps me, someone who takes care of me while I’m taking care of them, but I’m the one who changes the diapers, the one that feeds them, the one that bathes them, the one that puts them to sleep. For any parent, the first couple of months tend to get a little bit intense.

Why did you choose to become a parent via surrogate?
Adoption was one option, but it’s complicated and can take a long time. Surrogacy was an intriguing and faster option. I thought, ‘I’m going to jump into this with no fear.’

Tell us about Valetino’s and Matteo’s personalities.
Valentino loves to sleep. I call him ‘Mr. Peace and Love’ because he’s so chill and serene. Matteo is more alert and active. He was up at 3 a.m. the other night and just hanging!

What is your philosophy on raising your sons?
I love to read books to my sons and tell them stories. I play music for them so they develop their own personalities. I want to give them information and raise them with honesty and love, and give them self-esteem and a lot of acceptance.

HMMM … doesn’t this story sound awfully familiar? Remember when we learned that Clay Aiken became a father by artificial insemination? Yeah. And we all know what happened shortly after that baby was born. I’m just sayin’ … In any event, much congrats to Ricky on the birth of his beautiful twin boys. They really are darling. Curious that there has been NO MENTION AT ALL about the woman who gave birth to these babies. Personally, and pardon the rant, I think it’s kinda crappy that Ricky, Matteo and Valentino weren’t able to get the cover of US People magazine. I can’t believe a coverstory of Tom Cruise‘s personal pictures was deemed more worthy of the cover. The Cruise story seems like such a throw-away story, one that could be used when there is really nothing else going on. Ricky Martin just can’t let a big celeb trend pass him by, let alone two celeb trends … Martin has just revealed that not only is he a new celebrity parent but he is the celebrity parent of twin babies that were born by way of a surrogate mother. Like Clay Aiken before him (who fathered his own child after deciding to have a baby via artificial insemination with his much older friend Jaymes Foster), Ricky is now a new dad of twin baby boys:

Ricky Martin has become a father. The Latin heartthrob welcomed twin boys via a surrogate, his rep confirmed to Access Hollywood. “The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky’s full-time care,” a statement from Martin’s rep read. Martin is thrilled about the births and is stepping back from his duties as a bon-bon shaking celebrity to be a dad. “Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children,” the statement also noted. Martin is not expected to return to the studio until sometime next year, his rep told Access.

Well, now this is … odd … but happy news, I suppose. I seem to remember hearing that Ricky (who has been out of the spotlight for ages now, at least here in the US) had a girlfriend or was purporting to have a girlfriend/fiancée or something like that … yeah, whatever happened to her and why did he decide to have a child via surrogate. I suppose I can understand that he may have wanted to have children without the bother of having their natural mother to contend with in order to raise them on his own but … yeah, it’s odd, right? Surely this news will do nothing to cool down those rumors about his private life. In any event, congratulations goes out to Daddy Martin on the birth of his twin boys … I wish them all much happiness together.
