Just in time for the holiday season, a couple of new promo photos have been released that feature Rihanna promoting her new album Rated R. As you might expect, Ri Ri‘s promo photos are a bit on the wild side … and on the nekkid side:

Rihanna has been keen to show a wilder side of late. And you don’t get much wilder than a cougar, as the brave popstar posed alongside the fang-toothed beast to promote album Rated R. The Barbados born singer, 21, was pictured holding onto the neck of the roaring cougar in one daring shot. And in another, she used just her arm to protect her modesty. The Umbrella singer has been courting controversy with her raunchy photoshoots and revealing interviews of late. A recent semi-nude cover-shoot for GQ magazine was so raunchy, she faced the wrath of her record label boss Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid. The singer is seen topless, in a pair of unzipped hotpants on the cover of the January 2010 issue of the popular men’s monthly. And she admits things got so steamy on set, Island Def Jam boss Reid threatened to step in. Rihanna revealed: ‘It’s very sexy. At one point L.A. Reid came into the shoot and he was like, ‘Rihanna, put some f*cking clothes on.”‘

Rihanna, who’s new album Rated R was finally released on Monday, spent a bizzy night and day in NYC yesterday and today promoting that album release. Last night, she did an in-store appearance to sign copies of Rated R and this morning she performed on the Good Morning America stage … here are a few photos:

As you may recall, Ri Ri was here in SoCal to perform on the American Music Awards on Sunday night — and last week she even performed on the world’s largest cruise ship off the coast of Florida … so she is working hard to get folks interested in buying her album. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a promo copy before the album was released and while I enjoy it very much, I’m not really blown away by it. Have any of y’all bought the album yet? Last week we got our first look at the cover artwork for Rihanna‘s new single Russian Roulette, the first from her new album Rated R due out on November 23. Today, courtesy of PopEater, we get our first look at the album cover artwork for Rated R itself … behold:

You’ve probably seen Rihanna’s racy single cover, and now PopEater is proud to exclusively premiere the cover for her impending album, ‘Rated R.’ The grainy black-and-white cover shows the R&B queen draped in hand jewelry and covering one eye. The album, which is set to be released on Monday, Nov. 23, is Rihanna’s first album since 2007′s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad.’ It is also Rihanna’s first album since she was assaulted by boyfriend Chris Brown in February. The ‘Rated R’ cover was shot by famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who says that “Rihanna was looking to create something a bit new for the look of the album.” Von Unwerth goes on to say that Rihanna is “so beautiful, sweet and tough at the same time — and a pleasure to shoot,” adding that she’s “fantastic to work with — very giving, very creative, very involved in every aspect of the shoot, and ready to push the boundaries.”

As far as album covers go, this is one ain’t too shabby. The look of the photo reminds me of the photospread Ri Ri did for Italian Vogue over the Summer. To be honest, I expected the album artwork to be more racy … I like that it’s kinda understated. I’m SO dying to hear this album tho … the photos are nice and all but it’s all about the music. I can’t wait to hear more from Rated R. As far as the coverphoto goes, tho, what do y’all think … do you like?
