It was a sad, sad day last May when I was forced to Peace the Spork Out the Jude’stache … so it’s nice to see it alive and well and back in action. Sure this Jude’stache is a fake Jude’stache worn only for the reshoots but it looks so much like the real Jude’stache that I don’t think we have any cause for complaint. Again, it is worrisome that Sherlock Holmes requires some reshoots — after all, X-Men Origins: Wolverine had the same problem, ordered some reshoots and, well, the movie still sucked. One hopes that these reshoots for Sherlock will make the film better and not worse. It is nice to see the gang in full costume again, if for only a short while. It wasn’t until I saw these new photos that I realized how much I missed the Jude’stache.

Will Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson be the latest bromance to hit Hollywood? Robert Downey Jr., who plays Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic fictional character opposite Jude Law’s Watson in Guy Ritchie’s remake of Sherlock Holmes thinks he and Law have some sexy chemistry together. “It’s called circumstantial homosexuality,” he jokingly told the press at Comic-Con Friday, after leading lady Rachel McAdams suggested the film’s central love story is really between the sleuth and his sidekick. The two actors took to each other even before Law signed on to the part. Downey was sent to meet his future costar and “sell” him on the role and “Jude walks down the hall and my assistant – who never cares about anything – is standing in the hall and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, there he is!’ He was dressed in that kind of fabulous, super expensive, under-dressed way. “I said, ‘Dude’ – and literally before he said he was going to do the movie, before he said that he was available, before he said that he either did or didn’t want to be courted, we just started talking like two serious actors about what would need to happen to make this work as a piece of straight drama. We just became really close really quickly, because we just rolled up our sleeves and started working from jump.” Downey said Law, who is currently performing Hamlet on stage in London, “is so the right arm of this movie.” But good thing for the ladies, the film isn’t just about male bonding. Downey shares some romantic moments with McAdams – but “not enough for my taste,” he said.

Oh man … how awesome is this. You gotta love actors that are secure enough in their manhood that they can willingly and believingly play male characters that show love and affection for one another without it necessarily being a gay lovestory. While I would have no problem with Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson being lovers, that development doesn’t really jibe with the lore that we all know and love. That said, the men are very close and I’m happy to know that that closeness will be respected in the film version of the book series. I have full confidence that RDJ and Jude will do great justice to the beloved characters that they portray … and if they want to take the relationship to a bromantic level, who are we to argue?

… tho try as they might, together they still aren’t as adorable as McGosling were back in the day. Trust me, I’ve tried to jump on board with these two as a couple — and I am happy that they are together — but my heart still aches for the days when Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were a couple. But … it’s not really for us to decide who Rachel should be dating (which is lucky for Josh). She’s now attached to Mr. Lucas and I guess we should just learn to accept it. I promise, I’ll keep trying to do just that.

Now, to be fair, it should be noted that just because the couple are looking at real estate together doesn’t necessarily mean that they are planning to live together. It could be that Rachel is in the market for some new digs (you will note that she is carrying paperwork in the second photo) and Josh was just being a supportive boyfriend along for the ride. But, I suppose it is just as equally possible that the couple are lookin’ at a new place to share together as their lurvenest. I don’t recall if Rachel ever moved in with Ryan Gosling when those two dated so I’m not sure if living together is something that Rachel likes to do with all of her men. Personally, it seems a bit early for these two to be living together (as if anyone asked me for my opinion) but they know what is best for them. Do y’all think they’re planning to take their relationship to this next level?

Those last photos we saw looked a bit … showy. These pics look more natural and sweet. While my heart still yearns for a resurrection of McGosling I think I can see Josh’s appeal to Rachel. With this skull cap on and from far away (while you squint your eyes), Josh looks like an older version of Ryan. Perhaps Rachel is in the market for a more mature and weathered man? It would seem that she deffo has a type … and she looks happy. Sigh. I think I can warm up to these two as a serious couple. What do y’all think?

Oh yeah, by the look of that dramatic embrace, you can tell that McLucas is ready for the world to know that they are so lurve. Not that I’m discounting the genuineness of their new romance but who embraces and kisses one another like this on a public street? In the first two photos, it looks as if Rachel was aware that they were being photographed … I’m guessing that they used the opportunity to let the cat out of the bag. They do look cute together … not as cute as Rachel looks with Ryan Gosling, mind you … but cute nonetheless. Long live McLucas! Unless, you know, McGosling decide to give things another go ;)

It’s confirmed by Hollywood North’s John White — Canadian starlet Rachel McAdams and actor Josh Lucas are a couple. The two Hollywood stars, who have been hotly pursued (unsuccessfully) by New York paparazzi in the past month, spent some alone time in Toronto this past weekend. They went on yoga outings, romantic walks and even had a bite to eat at the same restaurant McAdams and her then boyfriend, Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, were photographed at last summer by Hollywood North. McAdams, star of the ultimate chick flick The Notebook, and Josh — who can be seen in Sweet Home Alabama and Glory Road — may be a couple, but will they have the same spark and popular appeal as Gosling and McAdams?

While I quite like Josh Lucas and think that he is a cutie, my heart still yearns for the days when Rachel and Ryan were happily attached. Thanks to The Notebook, McGosling will forever be meant to be together in my book. I’m sure I’ll get over that feeling … if this new romance with Josh Lucas stands the test of time. As it stands, the couple have only been together for a few weeks now. We’ll have to see if they’re really in it for the long haul. McLucas are deffo in the happy honeymoon stage. Robert Downey Jr. is grooving on the great irony of being nominated for a supporting Oscar as Tropic Thunder’s Kirk Lazarus, a pretentious Aussie actor who is so Method that he dyes his skin to play a black character. “It’s so funny to me that the role is a guy who is an Oscar-seeking moron. His whole motivation is Oscars,” he says during a shooting break. He’s starring in the first major big-screen version of Sherlock Holmes in more than 20 years, which moved from the streets of London to Brooklyn last month and wraps this week. He then adds, “Irony is synonymous with pretty much everything that is going on.” If he is talking about his career, that is certainly true. At 43, Downey has gone from being an oft-brilliant yet erratic talent who bounced from rehab center to jail cell to being one of the most bankable and popular male stars around. That he has accomplished this feat not in low-budget, high-art vehicles but in a blockbuster like Iron Man, last year’s No. 2 grosser at $318 million, and in the raucously profane comedy Thunder, is fairly unprecedented. “What I am doing is really quality films,” he says. “The trend is turning back to commercial films that are actually, more often than not, where the quality happens.” That’s what he is hoping for with his still-brainy yet brawnier re-imagining of England’s famous Victorian sleuth, with Jude Law as a dashing Watson and Rachel McAdams as the deceptive Irene Adler. The PG-13 adventure opens this year during the competitive month of November. “I was the picking-at-the-leftovers kid for the first 22 ½ years of my career, and it changed because life is like that,” he says of his good fortune after five years or so of sobriety. “Sooner or later, once you pull the one-armed bandit enough, you are going to get some gold bars.” Downey is clearly pleased that his efforts have led to his second Academy Award attempt after a lead nomination for 1992’s Chaplin. He’s told that the only other actor to be in the running while in blackface for an entire performance — or nearly, as in Downey’s case — was Laurence Olivier in 1965. “Ohhh,” he says as the fact dawns on him. “For Othello.” The late Heath Ledger is all but guaranteed to take the gold for his Joker in The Dark Knight. But if the impossible happens, it would be hard to be the actor who took it away. “It’s weird, because what you have is real life, and then you have the movies,” Downey says. “When they intersect, it becomes disquieting that it also becomes something to discuss. But that’s part of the deal. Anything that happens privately is public.”

I love RDJ … and while I’m thrilled that he has secured his second Academy Award nom, I think it’s pretty safe to say that he’s not going to win it this year. That said, he has proven time and time again that he has a formidable talent and not even his own destructive behavior can sidetrack his career. I am very happy that RDJ’s darkest days seem to be behind him and that we can look forward to many years of great movies from him in the future. I am really looking forward to seeing his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes but I am most anxious to see him get back into the red and yellow suit and become Iron Man again. While Robert Downey, Jr. may not walk home with a golden statue at this month’s Oscars, I suspect that his time will come … prolly sooner than we think.

Seriously, I cannot get over how much I like seeing Jude rockin’ the ’stache. It’s a really good look for him … I fear I won’t be able to focus on anything else when this movie finally hits theaters next year. Rachel looks pretty good in her outfit … methinks she’ll be playing one of those “tough as nails” chicks that don’t take no gumption from any man, whether he be supersleuth or not. I suppose one can forgive Guy Ritchie for being preoccupied with his personal life these days … no matter how much moolah he’s gonna get from Madonna out of their divorce (and you know it’s gonna be a lot no matter what they say — or don’t say), I’m sure he’ll be pleased with the result.

Yeah, these photos ain’t the most exciting pics we’ve ever seen but it’s great to see Rachel added to the cast. I just love her and I can’t wait to see her in this film. Hopefully we’ll get to see her in full costume on set … so in the meantime, we’ll have to make do with these backstage photos. So … do you suppose all members of the Sherlock Holmes cast received the same outerwear to wear or is it possible that Rachel is wearing Jude’s fleece jacket? HMMMMM?
