Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, delivered her annual Christmas Day message in London, England today as is the tradition in the United Kingdom. Each year, the Queen focuses her message on a theme that is meant to resonate with her subjects and tap into the spirit of the holiday season. Altho Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her actual birthday back in April, the British monarch celebrated her 85th birthday today on her “official” birthday. In celebration, all of England reveled with the Queen for the annual Trooping the Colours national holiday. We are now just one week away from the Royal Wedding of Prince William of Wales to his ladylove Kate Middleton and today we learn that his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, II — the ruling monarch of the United Kingdom, has formally given her consent for the prince to marry his fiancée. Queen Elizabeth, II of the United Kingdom delivered her annual Xmas Broadcast earlier today which was filmed at Hampton Court Palace sometime this month. To be honest, I was expecting Her Majesty to figure out a way to work the happy news that her grandson Prince William is getting married to his longtime love Kate Middleton next April … but she did not. Instead, she talked for about 7 minutes about how sports and good sportmanship will save the world.

Remember that fun chinaware that commemorates the Royal Engagement of Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton that we got to see yesterday? Well, today we get to check out a few more commemorative souvenir-type things that are being offered for sale in tribute to the Royal Wedding of Prince Wills and Kate … things like replica rings, British coins and supercute toy playsets.

Yesterday we saw a few photos of the annual Trooping of the Colour celebration which took place in London, England in honor of Queen Elizabeth II‘s 84th birthday and today we get to see photos from a different Royal celebratory event in honor of The Most Noble Order of the Garter. As I understand it, The Most Noble Order of the Garter is a pretty big deal in the United Kingdom, as is evident by the fancy dress worn by Queen Elizabeth and her grandson Prince William:

I have absolutely no idea what is going on but I believe this event goes all the way back to the 1300s. Fancy schmancy. But you may have noticed that young Prince Harry is not featured in these photos or the photos we saw yesterday … that’s because he is on an official visit to Botswana right now.
