Prince Harry Speaks Very Highly Of Kate Middleton

Things are moving along swiftly in the wedding preparations for Prince William of Wales and his longtime girlfriend an fiancée Kate Middleton now that we are moving into the Xmas season. This is the first Xmas that Wills and Kate will be celebrating as betrothed lovebirds so it is time for Kate to meet a whole bunch of Royal Family members. This week, Prince Wills, Kate and Prince Harry of Wales lunched with Queen Elizabeth II so that Kate could be introduced to a whole slew of Royal Family members … all before Harry was due to fly off to Berlin, Germany to collect an award for his charity work.

In Remembrance
Prince Harry Opens A Memorial Field To Fallen British Soldiers

Prince Harry of Wales represented the British Royal Family (and, in fact, the entire United Kingdom) honorably in Wootton Bassett, in Wiltshire to officially open a field of remembrance to the brave soldiers who lost their lives serving their country in Afghanistan. As you can tell from the following photos, Harry started out the day in light spirits but then reflected the seriousness of the occasion when he paid homage to Britain’s fallen war dead:

Prince Harry on Tuesday opened a field of remembrance to Britain’s war dead in Afghanistan, planting a cross in memory of a friend killed while fighting Taliban insurgents. Harry — who is third in line to the throne and has served with the British army in Afghanistan — wore full military dress for the sombre ceremony in the market town of Wootton Bassett, in Wiltshire. The 26-year-old observed two minutes’ silence to honour the 342 British troops killed in Afghanistan since 2001, before planting the small wooden cross for his friend, Lance Corporal of Horse Jonathan Woodgate. Woodgate, also 26, was in the Household Cavalry Regiment with Harry and was killed on a foot patrol in the troubled Sangin district of Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province in March. “You can really relate to him (Harry) as he’s done it,” Royal Navy Commando Petty Officer Jason Gadd said after meeting the prince at the ceremony. The field of remembrance has been set up by the Royal British Legion, a charity for current and former British military service personnel. Wootton Bassett is near RAF Lyneham, the air force base used since 2007 to fly Britain’s war dead home from Afghanistan, and a solemn procession through the high street takes place for every coffin that arrives. Harry — known as Lieutenant Wales in the military — served in Afghanistan for 10 weeks but was withdrawn in 2008 after media reported the deployment, triggering fears for his security. His elder brother Prince William, 28, said last month that he was determined to serve on the front line in Afghanistan like Harry.

As we learned on Sunday, Harry can be counted on to preside over fun events and today we see that he can just as easily preside over serious and very somber events. There is no question that Prince Harry holds a special place for his military comrades who serve in Afghanistan so I’m sure he was quite proud to be on hand to open this new remembrance field to the brave military persons who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Behold: Harry's happy trail leads to pink undies
Prince Harry Takes The 2010 Soldier Challenge

Prince Harry was on hand Friday at the Imperial War Museum in London to officially kick off The Soldier Challenge event in order to raise funds for British military charity. The Solider Challenge will put young people thru the paces of actual military training exercises in a competitive setting all to raise funds for charity. Here are a few photos of Harry‘s involvement at the kick-off event this weekend:

November 5, the 26-year-old Prince Harry helped launch a fund-raising project in aid of ABF, the Soldiers’ Charity. The event kicked off at the Imperial War Museum in London and will challenge young people to take part in military-style challenges. Both military personnel and civilians were present at the charity-supporting launch. The challenge will “tour” across London, visiting several military and more standard tourist attractions. Overall, 35 physical challenges will be set, including abseiling and crossing an obstacle course at the Tower of London’s moat. Participants will have four hours to complete as many challenges as possible, before returning to the end camp at the Royal Chelsea Hospital gardens by the River Thames. The Soldier Challenge event will take place next March and an “event village” will be set up with information booths, souvenirs and refreshments. The charity provides support to serving and retired soldiers, along with their families.

MMM HMMM … yes … charity … military training … interesting … Bear Grylls was at Friday’s event as well … now let’s get to the real interesting subject at hand — how about them pink undies that Prince Harry let flash at this weekend’s event? HMMMM? Why don’t we take a closer look at Harry‘s colorful undergarments, shall we? Check ‘em out, after the jump …

Giddy up
Prince Harry Ponies Up

Earlier today we got to see photos of the elder Prince of Wales, William, doing his sporty best at a friendly game of cricket. Right now we get to see photos of his younger brother Prince Harry of Wales engaged in his sport of choice — polo — at the Asprey World Class Cup polo match in Surrey, England yesterday afternoon:

Despite coming from very different worlds, perhaps Prince Harry and Ronnie Wood had plenty to talk about thanks to their reputations for being naughty. In between the Prince’s games at the Asprey World Class Polo match in Surrey yesterday, the two men crossed the generation gap to share a joke together. While the 25-year-old royal was playing polo to raise money for his charity Sentebale, the Rolling Stone, 63, was strictly a guest, enjoying the matches and food on offer. Dressed in a bright coloured shirt and stripy jacket, the rocker kept close to his Brazilian polo coach girlfriend Ana Araujo, 30 … Also in attendance was Prince Albert of Monaco and his fiancée Charlene Wittstock, comedienne Ruby Wax, author Kathy Lette and glamour model Katie Price.

The bride is a Yankee!
Prince Harry Suits Up For A Friend’s Wedding

Prince Harry of Wales and his best mates got themselves all dolled up in Abergavenny, Wales United Kingdom to attend the wedding nuptials of his former Equerry Mark Dyer to Amanda Kline of the US State of Texas. As you can tell from the following photos, Prince Harry and his buds looked very swank for the occasion:

I’m not entirely sure what an equerry is but I suspect it is a very important job, one that allowed Dyer to foster a wonderful personal relationship with Prince Harry. I love that the bride, Amanda, is a Yankee-Doodle Dandy from the US State of Texas. The two of them make a very lovely-looking couple

I think it’s going to be some time before we see Prince Harry take his walk down the aisle so it’s nice to see him all dolled up for this wedding. Congrats to the happy couple!!

Plays the sport of kings
Prince Harry Visits The US: Day Three

Over the past couple of days we’ve seen photos of Prince Harry of Wales enjoying a 3-day visit to the US that had him hangin’ with US military cadets at West Point Military Academy as well as pitchin’ for the NY Mets but today we get to see photos of Harry doing something that we’ve seen him do before — play polo. Prince Harry, for the third year in a row, participated in the 3rd Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic which was held on Governor’s Island in NYC yesterday to round out his short visit to the US. Before the game got underway, Harry spoke to the folks at the polo match about the important need to help the AIDS-ravaged people of Africa, a cause that was very close to his late mother Princess Diana‘s heart:

Britain’s Prince Harry capped his New York visit with a polo match Sunday on an island off Manhattan to benefit 400,000 children of an AIDS-ravaged African nation. The 25-year-old son of the late Princess Diana was pitted against the best-known player in the equestrian sport, the Argentine Nacho Figueras … The 3rd Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic was played on Governor’s Island. Harry has participated the past two years. The United States “has always protected the downtrodden, the poorest, those most in need of help in the world,” Harry said before the match. “And to me, this is what the United States stands for.” Harry mounted a polo pony as part of his pledge to continue his mother’s work. Princess Diana, who was often photographed embracing HIV-positive mothers and children, died in 1997 in a Paris car crash. Sunday’s heat, topping 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius), “is a welcome relief after the snow and ice of Lesotho, where I was last week,” her son said of the southern African nation where he said he took his brother, Prince William, to show him the work of his charity. Earlier, Harry joined guests in the VIP “marquee” — a fancy white tent where lunch tables for 10 overlooking the field went for as much as $50,000. Proceeds from the day would go to American Friends of Sentebale, a charity set up in 2006 by Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho for “the vulnerable children of Lesotho,” where many children are AIDS orphans. Harry said both he and the African prince wanted to follow the examples set by their mothers. “Both were very much loved, and both loved people — both loved helping people who needed it the most,” he said. About 100 children in Lesotho lose one or both of their parents each day, Harry said, adding that the orphaned children survive with no prospects of a regular nourishing diet and little hope of a meaningful education. The tally for the day was not immediately available, but was likely hefty, given the minimum price for a table for 10 in the VIP marquee — $20,000. The $50,000 tables were closest to that of the prince. A picnic on the grass went for $250 per person … Harry’s three-day visit to New York began Friday at the West Point Military Academy north of the city, followed by UNICEF on Saturday, when he threw the first pitch at a Mets game.

I’m telling you, Prince Harry and his older brother Prince William of Wales are absolutely doing their late mother proud. Her philanthropic spirit lives on in her two sons … it’s really something. After Harry gave his speech, it was time for him to suit up and play polo. After the jump, check out some great photos from yesterday’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic and learn whose team came out on topPrince Harry‘s or Nacho Figueras

Pitches for the Mets, Walks with the Wounded in Central Park
Prince Harry Visits The US: Day Two

Yesterday we learned that Prince Harry of Wales has made his way to the US to enjoy a 3 day visit in the New York region in an effort to strength the US-UK military alliance and to raise awareness for the need to aid wounded veterans after they return home from their tours of duty. Yesterday we saw photos of Harry with the cadets at West Point Military Academy and on the deck of the museum ship the USS Intrepid which is docked in NYC. Today we get to see a few fun photos of Harry throwing out the first pitch yesterday at Citi Field for the NY Mets (who played the Minnesota Twins) and participating in the Achilles Hope And Possibility Race event that took place in Central Park earlier today:

Britain’s Prince Harry has a pretty good arm. Harry threw the ceremonial first pitch with a bit of zip before the Mets played the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, the second day of his visit to New York. “He did well,” said Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey(notes), who tutored Harry for a few minutes before his pitch. Without much fanfare, Harry walked to the mound when the Mets ran onto the field before the first inning and received polite applause from the Citi Field crowd. He was wearing a blue Mets cap and a white T-shirt with “walking with the wounded” written on the front in red lettering. The Mets had made him a pinstriped jersey with “Wales” and the number 22 on the back … Standing on the pitching rubber, Harry sheepishly waved to the crowd before shaking his right arm several times and doing a full body jiggle to loosen up. He then made a hard, accurate throw that was a little high, forcing catcher Rod Barajas(notes) to stand from his crouch to make the catch of the pitch that crossed the plate. Dickey spent about five minutes with Harry before the game helping him with his mechanics. He said the prince was throwing with a more straight-armed cricket throw so he told him to bend his elbow. “We didn’t talk about Parliament or anything,” Dickey said. “We’re just two guys having a catch” … A lieutenant in the British Army, Harry spent several innings in a luxury suite with Mets owner Fred Wilpon, the founder of Welcome Back Veterans, a charity which provides support and treatment for soldiers with post traumatic stress disorder.

HMMMM … don’t you think that Prince Harry looks pretty good as a baseball player? It looks like he’s got his form down, I think the Mets should do everything they can to sign him up. But in all seriousness, yeah, Harry looks like he would make a right good baseball jock. The look suits him. After the jump, check out a few photos of Harry walking with the wounded in Central Park this morning as part of the Achilles Hope And Possibility Race

Chills With US Military servicemen and women
Prince Harry Visits The US

Prince Harry of Wales, who spent some time last week touring the mine fields of Mozambique as well as chillin’ with his big bro Prince William and soccer stud David Beckham, has made his way to the US this week in order to spend 3 days in NYC in an effort to strengthen UK-US military ties. Harry paid a visit to the cadets at West Point Military Academy before making his way to NYC to give a speech on the deck of the USS Intrepid which is now permanently stationed as a museum ship in NYC. Here are a few photos from Harry‘s visit to the USS Intrepid yesterday and some deets from the day:

Britain’s Prince Harry says the bonds between British and American military veterans are strong but can be even stronger. Harry spoke Friday on the flight deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City during a reception for U.S. and British veterans and their families. The third in line to the British throne said his country can learn from American advances in veterans’ care and rehabilitation. Earlier, Harry joined cadets training at the U.S. Military Academy as he started a three-day visit to New York. On Saturday, he’ll throw out a first pitch at a Mets baseball game and on Sunday he plans to participate in a polo match on Governor’s Island in New York Harbor … The polo event will benefit American Friends of Sentebale, the U.S. arm of the global charity co-founded by Harry that supports impoverished children of Lesotho in southern Africa. He’s holding a reception for the event Saturday evening in Greenwich, Conn.

Some of you may recall that the USS Intrepid is the ship that my friend Mark’s dad bravely served on in his military days. It’s really very cool to see Prince Harry on the deck of the very same military ship that served as a temporary home for Mark’s dad. As mentioned above, Prince William made a visit to West Point before he visited the Intrepid. After the jump, check out some photos of Harry in his camoflauge fatigues as he posed for some photos at West Point …

I can see your HALO
Prince Harry Visits The Minefields Of Mozambique

In the past week or so we got to see photos of Prince Harry of Wales celebrating his Queen grandmother’s official birthday in Botswana and chillin’ with his big brother Prince William and soccer stud David Beckham in Johannesburg, South Africa for the 2010 World Cup … but today we get to see a photo and video of Harry devoting his time to a more serious subject in the region. Prince Harry visited the minefields of Mozambique as a guest of The HALO Trust which is a non-profit organization that specializes in the removal of the hazardous debris of war (with a huge focus on mine bombs). Here is a photo of Harry touring one minefield in particular and the deets of his visit:

Prince Harry has paid a two day visit to Mozambique to visit minefields being cleared by The HALO Trust, a British Charity and the World’s largest demining agency. Prince Harry’s visit, which was privately organised by HALO, has focused on the impact of mines on the civilian population. On Sunday, The Prince met villagers and amputees who told him about their plight among the remaining mines – including meeting a boy who lost his leg 18 months ago while herding cattle. Prince Harry spent the night in the HALO deminers’ tented camp. The Prince was given a close-up demonstration of the process of humanitarian demining, as he observed a team undertaking mineclearance work, and was then himself given the first stages in training on HALO equipment and clearance techniques. Prince Harry detonated mines under the supervision of expert HALO deminers. Prince Harry’s visit took place in villages around the Cahora Bassa dam in Tete province, Mozambique. In this area, 10 villages straddle 17km of unfenced mine belts, placing hundreds of families within metres of some 30,000 mines. These mines were laid over 30 years ago, and they continue to have a devastating impact on children and adults alike. The mines prevent the farming of crops and the grazing of livestock among a rural community that ranks as one of the world’s poorest. There had been 48 mine accidents in the Cahora Bassa minefields before HALO intervened. In the area of Mozambique that Prince Harry visited, the terrain is unsuitable for the use of armoured mineclearance machines, and the density of mines so great that the most effective system of clearance is manual demining. Prince Harry observed deminers as they painstakingly used sensitive metal detectors and hand-tools to clear anti-personnel mines. The system provides the absolute “100 per cent” clearance needed to ensure that villagers can then safely use the land after HALO has finished its work. The terrible human impact of landmines, and the work of The HALO Trust in clearing mines, was brought to the world’s attention by Diana, Princess of Wales. The late Princess visited HALO projects in Angola in 1997. HALO’s Chief Executive, Guy Willoughby, said:

“HALO is delighted that Prince Harry has come out to support us in this quest to clear Mozambique of mines – a task we could complete in the next four years. By being with us in the field, and even personally destroying mines, he has learned something of the dirty, boring, dangerous work that HALO’s 7,700 staff undertake, day-in, day-out, in the World’s most mine-impacted countries. His mother was brilliant at getting the profile of the risk of mines globally recognised. Prince Harry clearly wishes to follow her magnificent example, and is supporting The HALO Trust in its mission.”

In the last month HALO cleared 925 mines from Mozambique, and 105,380 mines since starting work there in 1993. HALO employs 375 staff in Mozambique, though at its peak when finishing clearance of the four northern provinces HALO had in excess of 500 staff. Over 16 years HALO has had four staff killed in Mozambique. Globally since 1988 HALO has cleared over 13 million mines and items of unexploded ordnance.

It is absolutely insane to me that there are still huge chunks of land that are riddled with live mines where families live and children play. I cannot even imagine what life must be like to live in fear of inadvertently setting off a mine and triggering a deadly explosion. I have nothing but the utmost respect for The HALO Trust and the insanely important work that they do globally to try and defuse as many live mines as they can. That Prince Harry would lend his high profile stature to the cause just endears him even more to me. After the jump, watch a short video of Harry actually setting off a safe mine demolition in Mozambique this past weekend …
