Last Friday the cast and crew of the long-running daytime drama The Young and the Restless celebrated the 37th anniversary of the soap in a lavish celebration that brought together many Y&R alums from the past to party with some members of the current cast. It’s hard to believe that the show is now 37 years old and still goin’ very strong:

Because my mother and sister were fans of the show as I was growing up, I have a certain affinity for the soap … and have for many years (not quite 37 years but, well, close). I know that daytime dramas are dropping like flies these days but I’m hopeful that we still have many more years of Young and Restless drama to look forward to. Last September we learned the shocking news that, due to a contract dispute between actor and studio, the iconic Victor Newman character (played by veteran actor Eric Braeden) was being written off the long-running daytime drama The Young and the Restless. About a month later, everyone came to their senses and a deal was worked out to bring Victor Newman back onto the show … just in time for the Soap to celebrate 30 Years of Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless. Here are a few photos from the celebratory anniversary party in celebration of The Mustache himself, Victor Newman:

Can you imagine if Eric Braeden hadn’t sorted out his contract dispute at the end of last year? There’d be no moustache, no secret planning with his sons, no whispered threats to Jack Abbott — and no reason to celebrate 30 years of Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless! That would mean no party, no pictures from said party, no slideshow on SOAPnet.com of said pictures, no article you’re reading right now … Seriously — we aren’t exaggerating when we say we think we could walk this “What if there was no Victor?” path of hypotheticals until we pretty much unraveled the space-time continuum. I’m so glad all the contract dispute was settled last year because I cannot, for the life of me, imagine Y&R without Victor Newman … even more insane, I couldn’t imagine the show with a different actor playing the character. Eric Braeden has played Victor Newman flawlessly for the past 30 years, a feat worth celebrating I think. Daytime Dramas have been dropping like flies in recent years but I hope The Young and the Restless can stick around for another 30 years … at least!

Here are a few fun photos for fans of the long-running daytime drama The Young and the Restless … Eric Braeden and Peter Bergman (who play bitter rivals Victor Newman and Jack Abbott on the daytime soap) were each spotted separately doing a bit of shopping at The Grove here in LA yesterday afternoon. It would seem that the Y&R actors needed to get in some last minute Xmas shopping before it was too late:

The Young and the Restless tapes at the CBS Studios right next to The Grove so it’s not uncommon to see actors from the show at the shopping center. It’s funny that both men were spotted at The Grove at about the same time, tho. As you may recall, Braeden almost lost his job on Y&R over a salary dispute but a deal was worked out that will allow him to return to the show soon. Considering the number of daytime dramas that are being canceled altogether, I bet both of these actors are happy that they have jobs that allow them to shop for Xmas at all. Here’s hoping they both have a Merry & Restless Xmas this year!!
