Justin Bieber Teams Up With PETA To Promote Animal Adoption

People for the Ethical Treatmtent of Animals scored a big celebrity endorsement by teaming up with pop star Justin Bieber to promote animal adoption. The Biebs is featured in a new promo ad campaign that looks a lot more like a heartthrob pin-up poster than an animal rights call to arms. CONTINUED »

Lea Michelle Teams Up With PETA To Save Horses In The City

In May of last year we learned that Glee star Jane Lynch had teamed up with the animal right’s organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in an effort to combat animal overpopulation and today we learn that her co-star Lea Michele has teamed up with PETA for a cause of her own. Lea and PETA want to put a stop to horse-drawn carriages in big cities, is that something you think you’d be on board to support?

No Fur Allowed
Justin Gaston Goes Nekkid For PETA . . . Again

Back in July we got our first look at a batch of photos that feature If I Can Dream stars Ben Elliott, Giglianne Braga and Justin Gaston posing nekkid for an anti-fur campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Today, we get to see a new promo photo for the PETA campaign which features these very attractive, very nekkid folks one more time:

This summer, the world got a sneak peek at the If I Can Dream cast’s anti-fur campaign—and now Giglianne Braga, Ben Elliott, and Justin Gaston are ready to reveal their provocative new ad, which features the three sexy housemates embracing one another au naturel next to the words, “If You Need Fur to Keep Warm, You’ve Got Problems.” As shown in a recent episode of If I Can Dream, all five castmates welcomed PETA representatives into the house to talk about the fur industry. After watching a graphic video that showed how animals who are killed for their fur are beaten to death and often skinned alive, Braga, Elliott, and Gaston all agreed to strip for PETA’s anti-fur campaign. The housemates also sat down for exclusive interviews with PETA. “When I first saw the footage, I was pretty upset about it,” said actor Ben Elliott. “Like, I didn’t know animals got treated that way, and were, like, literally skinned alive … that’s awful.” Model Giglianne Braga, who is a lifelong vegetarian, added, “I don’t understand how people can do that, really. Just torture and kill like that for the sake of fashion.” The trio enjoyed the shoot—despite the awkwardness of going completely nude around their roommates. Musician Justin Gaston explained, “This is definitely the … raciest thing I’ve ever done.” But because it was “for a good cause,” Gaston was “really, really glad” that he got to be a part of it. Braga, laughing, added, “It was fun being naked with those boys.” Braga, Elliott, and Gaston join a long list of celebrities—including Eva Mendes, Pamela Anderson, Khloe Kardashian, Dave Navarro, and Joanna Krupa—who have bared their skins to save animals’ skins. For more information and to view the ad, please visit PETA.org.

I still LOVE that Justin Gaston felt the need to get Bible verses tattooed to such interesting places on his body … but that’s beside the point. You gotta love a threesome of attractive 20-somethings who have no problem stripping down for a good cause … am I right? After the jump, check out some behind the scenes video from this shoot because, well, have I mentioned how attractive these people are? Click on …

Along with his 'If I Can Dream' co-stars
Justin Gaston Goes Nekkid For PETA

Justin Gaston, who got famous by dating Miley Cyrus for a hot minute and then trying his hand at modeling and singing, is featured in a new ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals which was released today and shows the lad in all his nekkid glory. Gaston is joined by Ben Elliott and Giglianne Braga — a couple of up-and-coming wannabe celebs who all star together on the reality series If I Can Dream. Now, I’ve never heard of or seen the show before today but from what I gather, it showcases a group of young people living together as they try to “make it” in show business. Here is one of the new nekkid PETA ads along with some deets about If I Can Dream:

From the makers of “American Idol” and 19 Entertainment comes IF I CAN DREAM, the first completely interactive entertainment property for the social networking set. This group of five fresh-faced young people embarked on a global and domestic tour introducing them to the world and preparing them for their hopeful journey to reach the heights of stardom. Now living in their Hollywood Hills home, they will be groomed, mentored by celebrities and be able to interact, rehearse and test ideas with viewers around the world. In addition, viewers around the world will have the opportunity to audition on MySpace for the chance to make it to Hollywood and live in the If I Can Dream House at www.myspace.com/ificandream With 60 cameras rolling 24/7, viewers will watch the artists experience the truth behind what it takes to “make it” in Hollywood. Simon Fuller will provide the best managers, coaches, etc in the industry to coach the artists. They all stay in the house until one gets a gig, record deal, etc. and moves out Then, next person moves in. It could be anyone around the world! The young artists are American Idol season 9 contestant who joined If I Can Dream after a petition of more than 20,000 fans, Alex Lambert, singer/songwriter Justin Gaston, who appeared in the Taylor Swift video for the hit song “Love Story” and who has already attracted fan attention from his modeling campaigns for Armani and Just Cavalli, actors Drama student from Texas, Kara Killmer, former model-turned-aspiring actor, Benjamin Elliott, and aspiring model Giglianne Braga.

It turns out that Justin Gaston has already left the Dream house because he scored the opening gig on American Idol Kris Allen‘s Summer tour so maybe the show actually works at turning these young artists into stars? After the jump, check out two more photos from this new PETA campaign and watch video from the photoshoot …

"I'm a big fan of PETA for all the work that they do ... in the trenches"
Jane Lynch Teams Up With PETA To Discuss Animal Overpopulation

Jane Lynch, who plays the deliciously evil Sue Sylvester on Glee, is the latest celeb to team up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to speak out in defense of animals everywhere. Jane sat down with PETA to discuss the subject of animal overpopulation in an attempt to get folks to spay or neuter their pets so that the number of unwanted pets can go down. Here are a few screencaps from Jane‘s PETA interview and some deets about her involvement with the animal rights organization:

Golden Globe nominee and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Jane Lynch, who has been entertaining audiences for more than a decade, took time out of her busy schedule playing twisted Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester on the Fox hit series Glee to put her comedic spin on a new public service announcement (PSA) for PETA. Jane’s funny video tackles a serious issue—the animal overpopulation crisis. Jane explains, “[T]here’s 8 to 10 million dogs that are put into shelters every year and only about half of them are adopted out, so the other half are euthanized. And you know, it’s a terrible thing to come into this world only to be, you know, taken out prematurely, so we can control this population by spay and neutering our own pets.” Save lives by spaying or neutering your animal companions immediately … The only way to create a “no-kill” nation is to make it a “no-birth” one. There are plenty of organizations across the nation, such as PETA’s SNIP mobile clinic, that offer no-cost or low-cost sterilizations. Your local animal shelter (call there first) or 1-800-248-SPAY should be able to refer you to existing programs and participating veterinarians. Jane, a Chicago-area native, is so passionate about this issue that she has written to the mayor of Chicago asking him to pass a law requiring people to spay or neuter their cats and dogs.

As you may recall, Jane‘s Glee co-star Lea Michele also appears in a promo video for PETA … it’s obvious those Glee folks really care about the welfare of animals. After the jump, check out Jane Lynch‘s video interview with PETA

A grave mistake?
PETA Uses The Late Bea Arthur In New Campaign Promo

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has launched a new offensive against fast food giant McDonald’s with a new campaign ad called McCruelty. What is most jarring about this new promo campaign is that the late Golden Girl Bea Arthur is featured in the ad with the claim that she would “roll over in her grave” if she knew what McDonald’s was up to. To me, this seems terribly offensive to the late actress’s memory but PETA maintains that they have the support of Arthur‘s son in the matter. Here is what this new PETA campaign promo photo looks like and excerpts of what it says:

A new PETA ad aimed at shaming McDonald’s into changing their chicken-slaughtering practices stars a familiar glare — one belonging to Bea Arthur. A ‘Golden Girls’-era photo of the actress appears in the ad next to the jarring headline: “McCruelty. It’s enough to make Bea Arthur roll over in her grave.” Arthur died last April of cancer shortly before her 87th birthday. Arthur was a long-time supporter of PETA when she was alive, and the ad states she left money to the animal right’s group for their campaign against McDonald’s. It begins: “Death couldn’t stop this Golden Girl from fighting the Golden Arches’ cruel slaughter practices.” The ad is running in Chicago newspapers on Thursday to reach the Illinois-based fast food company. Dan Matthews, a PETA vice president, told the New York Times that he consulted with Matt Saks, Arthur’s son, “who especially liked that the copy was in Bea’s irreverent voice.” According to the ad, PETA is using the money Arthur gave “to pressure McDonald’s to switch to a less violent, USDA-approved chicken-slaughter method” that they say would spare birds of broken legs and “being scalded to death in defeathering tanks.” The ad specifically calls out McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner, who has resisted changing slaughtering methods. It ends with a popular saying by Arthur’s ‘Maude’ character: “God’ll get you for that.”

I suppose if Bea‘s son Matt is OK with this ad then I should be as well … I just wish that PETA used better language. Bea only died last year and, at least to me, the loss still feels very present. It seems cruel to me to be making jokes about the woman’s death so soon after her passing. It’s tricky because even tho her son approves, we can’t know if Bea would’ve been ok with an ad like this. In the end, I suppose we have to trust that her son would know best. What do y’all think?

On behalf of PETA
Ryan Gosling Pens A Letter To McDonald’s

Last Wednesday we learned that Glee‘s Lea Michele was the latest celebrity spokesperson to team up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to join their crusade for animal rights. It turns out that actor Ryan Gosling has also decided to work with PETA in defense of animal rights and has fired off an open letter to the McDonald’s fast food chain regarding their treatment of the chickens they prepare as food:

Ryan Gosling is the heartthrob with a heart of gold—and now he’s got a message for the Golden Arches: Stop scalding chickens to death in defeathering tanks. The Oscar-nominated actor just fired off a letter on PETA’s behalf to McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner asking him to adopt a less cruel slaughter method. Controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK), which McDonald’s European suppliers already use, would eliminate the worst abuses currently faced by chickens who are killed for McNuggets. Ryan himself said it best in Half Nelson: “The only constant is change.” By changing to a more humane slaughter method, McDonald’s would evolve and show the world some compassion for animals. If you could say anything to McD’s, what would you tell them?

After the jump, read the full text of the letter supposedly written to McDonald’s by Ryan Gosling. While we are led to believe that Ryan actually wrote the text of the letter, it’s more likely that the letter was written and approved by him later. Wanna hear Gosling‘s beef with McD’s? Read on …

Phoenix retires from being crazy to try and save some animals
Joaquin Phoenix Teams Up With PETA To Save Exotic Animals

In recent weeks we’ve seen promo materials of celebs like Kellan Lutz and Dave Navarro lending their star-power to the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and today we learn that the formerly crazy Joaquin Phoenix is the latest celeb to join the cause. It would seem that Phoenix has decided to stop running around like a homeless-looking crazy person so that he can speak out against the use of exotic animal skin in the manufacture of high end clothing and accessories:

Millions of reptiles are slaughtered each year and turned into shoes, handbags, belts, and other accessories. These helpless animals are viewed as a commodity by those who poach and hunt them, and these creatures suffer as their skin is pulled off their bodies while they are still alive. Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe- and Grammy-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix refuses to support an industry based on such cruelty and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the exotic-skins trade in his exclusive video for PETA. Compassionate companies, such as Nike, H&M, and Overstock.com, have agreed not to sell exotic-skins. With tons of fashionable and cruelty-free alternatives there is no reason for animals to suffer for a wardrobe. Help Joaquin and PETA send a powerful message not only to the cruel exotic-skins industry but also to designers, retailers, and others who directly profit from the suffering caused by this barbaric business. Take the pledge now to shed exotic-skins from your wardrobe!

Thank the GODS Joaquin decided to stop wasting his life with his so-called “rap career” and is back to being relatively normal … well, at least, I hope he’s normal. Considering how much credibility he lost last year, I’m not sure he’s the best person to speak out on behalf of exotic animals but … I guess he’s better than nothing. After the jump, check out video (that may be upsetting for some viewers) of Joaquin Phoenix talking about the horrors of using exotic animal skins to make clothing and accessories …

"Ink, Not Mink"
Dave Navarro Gets Nekkid For PETA

Dave Navarro has become the new celebrity spokesmodel for the Ink, Not Mink campaign orchestrated by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and today we get to see his new promo photo for the ad campaign along with video from a sit-down interview with PETA. Here is Dave‘s nekkid promo photo for PETA and excerpts from his interview:

Dave Navarro rocks. Whether he’s touring with Jane’s Addiction, hosting his radio show Dark Matter, or posing nude for PETA, he does it with the style and intensity fitting of a rock star. Dave’s latest gig is helping animals by baring it all in an ad for PETA’s “Ink, Not Mink” series. Helping animals has never looked so good! After learning about where fur comes from, this former fur-wearer vowed never to buy or wear fur again. Dave tells PETA in his exclusive interview, “[S]everal years ago, I saw video footage of animals being skinned alive and screaming, and it, it honestly is the most horrific, inhumane thing I’ve ever seen.” These animals are often still conscious as they have their pelts peeled off their writhing bodies and can be heard screaming in pain. Buying and wearing fur promotes an industry of cruelty and suffering. Dave explains, “[S]ome of the simple things you can do to help save animals is not buy fur, stay away from products that have been animal tested. It’s really very, very simple to just support something or buy something that doesn’t brutalize animals like this.”

As you may recall, Twilight star Kellan Lutz was recently unveiled as PETA‘s newest spokesmodel for their Always Adopt, Never Buy campaign but Mr. Lutz did not have the decency to strip down for his promo photo. At least Dave here was kind enough to lose all of his clothes for his photo. After the jump, check out video of Dave‘s PETA interview which features some behind-the-scenes footage of his photoshoot …

'Always Adopt, Never Buy'
Kellan Lutz Teams Up With PETA To Save Some Animals

Kellan Lutz is not only working to promote Calvin Klein Underwear these days, he is also working with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to promote their newly launched Always Adopt, Never Buy campaign. While, very unfortunately, Kellan is mostly dressed in his new promo photo for PETA, I think the message is a very important one:

Gorgeous Twilight saga actor Kellan Lutz—known to many fans as the studly vampire Emmett Cullen—reveals his softer side in a new ad for PETA. Part of PETA’s “Adopt, Don’t Buy” campaign, the ad shows Lutz hugging his rescued mixed-breed dog Kola and reads, “Buying Animals Is Killing Animals. Save a Homeless Dog or Cat—Always Adopt and Never Buy.” The ad, which can be seen here, was shot by top celebrity photographer Collin Stark. “I love mutts!” gushed Lutz in an exclusive interview with PETA. “If anything, I think mutts stay the healthiest.” Lutz also addressed the animal-overpopulation crisis. “There are surprisingly so many animals, so many animals in these animal shelters,” he said. “It’s sad, and knowing that they get euthanized … and there’s a lot you can do … spay or neuter your pets so that doesn’t happen.” Almost 8 million unwanted dogs and cats enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and half of them must be euthanized simply because there aren’t enough good homes. Buying an animal from a pet store or breeder robs a homeless animal of a chance at adoption and encourages sellers to acquire more purebred animals. Lutz, a big fan of mutts, encourages “Twilighters” to adopt. For more information or to see Kellan Lutz’s ad and exclusive interview, please visit PETA.org.

Lutz fans, you gotta watch this interview … it’s plainly obvious that Kellan truly cares about animals and he really wants to impress upon people that we should, nay, we must “take them under our wing and take care of them”. Watch Kellan‘s interview video for PETA after the jump …
