The story of Dr. Jack Kevorkian comes to HBO
‘You Don’t Know Jack’ Premieres In NYC

HBO hosted a premiere even in NYC last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre for their new TV movie You Don’t Know Jack which tells the tale of Michigan doctor Jack Kevorkian. As some of you may recall, Dr. Kevorkian first developed an assisted suicide device and then championed the cause of legalized assisted suicide in this country. After enjoying a few initial victories, Jack Kevorkian was convicted and punished with a prison sentence that almost killed him. You Don’t Know Jack is a biopic of his life’s work and was made with his approval. Kevorkian joined actors Al Pacino (who plays Kevorkian in the film), Susan Sarandon and others (like Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field) at last night’s premiere:

Director Barry Levinson says Jack Kevorkian is “very pleased” with the upcoming HBO film “You Don’t Know Jack,” which tells the story of the assisted suicide advocate from Michigan. “I spoke to him on the phone when he saw it and he was fascinated by it and he talked about certain things,” said Levinson, who helmed the movie and was an executive producer on the project. “You Don’t Know Jack” debuts at 9 p.m. April 24 on HBO. It stars Al Pacino as Kevorkian and Danny Huston as attorney Geoffrey Fieger. It was filmed mostly in New York, but filmmakers came to metro Detroit last year for a few days of shooting. Levinson, who won an Oscar for directing “Rain Main,” said Kevorkian saw the movie here. “They screened it for him in Detroit someplace. And then literally someone walked him down and he went to the bus stop and he took a bus and he went back to his house. He didn’t want anybody to drive him or whatever. He just went to get the bus and went home.” Says Levinson, “That is Kevorkian.” Kevorkian is scheduled to attend tonight’s New York premiere of “You Don’t Know Jack.” He also is set to appear Thursday night on “Anderson Cooper 360,” which airs at 10 p.m. on CNN.

I’m not sure if many of you are as familiar with the work of Jack Kevorkian but those of us who hail from Michigan are well aware of his advocacy of assisted suicide. I, personally, can see the merit in giving dying patients the means for them to end their own suffering in a dignified manner rather than letting an incurable disease slowly decimate them … but I’m absolutely not an advocate for suicide. The issue has always been a very complicated one and I do not believe a simple black or white stance is really feasible. In any event, having grown up with Jack Kevorkian in the news for the first half of the 1990′s, I have to say I’m interested to see what is shown in this HBO biopic. After the jump, check out a trailer for You Don’t Know Jack for a taste of what’s in store in this new film …

Kim Cattrall Surfaces On The Set Of ‘Sex And The City 2’

Earlier today we saw the first photos of Cynthia Nixon on the NYC set of Sex and the City 2 which went into production this past Tuesday … and it turns out that Kim Cattrall, who plays sexpot Samantha Jones on SaTC, showed up for work on the sequel film earlier today. Here are a few pics of Kim making her way on the set today:

You will note that SaTC designer Patricia Field (the woman responsible for all of the fabulous looks that the ladies wear on Sex and the City) is in the second pic of Kimmy. Woot!! Now all we need is a Kristen Davis sighting and we’ll be all set. However will we be able to wait until May 2010 for this film to open … when it hasn’t even really begun filming yet!?! OY!
