An impromptu tribute to their late resident DJ
The Palms Hotel & Casino Pays Homage To DJ AM

The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, where Adam DJ AM Goldstein was the resident DJ before his untimely death yesterday, paid an impromptu tribute to their late DJ last night by only lighting up the A and the M in the signs on their main tower:

I found the photo on Twitter last night and thought it was a nice, tasteful way for the Palms to pay tribute to AM. Altho the official cause of death has not been determined (pending toxicology results), there is no question that his life ended much too soon.

Air America

So, I spent most of yesterday on a plane from Las Vegas to NYC but before we took off, we were allowed to hang out for a short bit in one of the penthouses at the Palms Place Hotel and Spa … man, what a view:

Because the property is off the strip, you get a view of the entire strip … it’s pretty phat! Of course, a place like that is only a dream for David and me but it was very cool to be able to pretend for a little while. Our time at Palms Place was really very cool (albeit, way too short). I hope we’ll get to go back again.

I was THRILLED that our Virgin America flight was wifi-equipped. Unfortch, Virgin America offers none of the network TV channels but I was able to follow Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Western Conference Championship between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks on my mobile phone. I was happily tweeting all the while … and Detroit ended up beating Chicago in overtime by 3-2:

They now lead the series 2-0. The next two games will be in Chicago, if Detroit wins those then they are headed for the Stanley Cup Championship. Go Wings!!

David and I arrived in NYC late last night but I was able to pre-order a pizza delivery while we were in the air (on my phone, which I also used to make Skype phone calls … wifi flying is the bomb) and we supped on amazing NYC pizza before bed. The weather here is insanely beautiful. We are very much looking forward to our stay. Tonight, we are attending the LOGO NewNowNext Awards … as you may recall, Pink is the new Blog is sponsoring the award for Ruining Pop Culture. I can’t wait to find out who wins ;)

At Home In The Desert

David and I made our way to Las Vegas yesterday afternoon just hours before a 5.0 magnitude earthquake rocked LA. I dunno what kind of luck I have that allows me to be away from LA when earthquakes hit (it’s happened at least 3 times since I’ve been living in SoCal) but I hope it continues for all time from here on out. I talked to a few friends back in LA after it hit and they were noticeably shaken. I know I would freak the eff out if I had to endure an earthquake … I’m very glad I missed it.

Happily, we made it to LV without any probs at all. Upon arrival, we checked in to the beautifully swank Palms Place Hotel and Spa and found our suite up on the 53rd floor (just one below the penthouse). This place is phat, y’all … it has a full kitchen (who cooks in Vegas?) and all the amenities that one would expect in a luxury suite:

There’s a TV and phone … in the bathroom (tho, who I’d be calling from the porcelain throne, I have no idea). We love it here … it’s a shame we won’t be staying for long (we leave for NYC tomorrow). After watching the Survivor: Tocantis finale (on the 2 side-by-side flat-screen plasma TVs) we made our way back down to Earth for a bite to eat. We discussed meeting up with some friends but in the end decided to spend some quiet time alone in our room :)

Tonight is the big night … David and I will be able to see our first NIN/JA 2009 show here at the Palms. Street Sweeper Social Club, Jane’s Addiction and Nine Inch Nails are performing at The Pearl concert theater and we are both *very* excited for the show:

I’ve tried to stay away from tour spoilers but I understand the setlists for the NIN shows have been amazing. Soooo excited!! Before the show, David and I are getting a personal tour of one of the phat condos here at the Palms (you know, in case we decide to get a place here in Vegas ;) and then it’s showtime!!

Just What Las Vegas Needs

Because the Maloof brothers don’t have enough money and because Las Vegas doesn’t have enough luxury resorts it was decided that the Maloofs would open a new Palms spa resort called the Palms Place Hotel & Spa … so naturally, there had to be a party full of celebs to officially open the place:

You may recall that we saw pics of the newly single Linda Hogan cutting a rug with her new 19-year old beau (with the nasty, fried bleached out wispy hair) at the Palms opening yesterday. Now we see that newlyweds Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz were in the hiz as well as the lovely ladies from The Hills, LC and LO. Ian Ziering (who is prolly desperately waiting by the phone for the folks from the 90210 spin-off to offer him a job) strutted down the red carpet with a sassy hat tipped just askew on his head. All in all, the Palms opening sounds like it was a phat event full of mirth and merriment. [Source]
