Pretend We’re Dead

¡Feliz Día De Los Muertos, y’all! As some of you may recall, a couple of weeks ago David and I attended the Día De Los Muertos celebration at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery here in LA but today is the actual Day of the Dead. Each year, folks hold a traditional Día De Los Muertos celebration on Olvera Street in downtown LA (the oldest street in Los Angeles) and each year, I try to attend the celebration. Last night, David and I made our way out to Olvera St. to enjoy the parade, the prayers & blessings, the face painting and the camaraderie that comes with Day of the Dead. Last night was my third Day of the Dead fest on Olvera street and it was truly one of the best.

Last night I met up with Tamar, Ollie, Caleb and Rob at Olvera Street in downtown LA so that we could all partake of the annual Day of the Dead celebration together. Altho today is the actual Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos), participants march in the parade and dance in the celebration on the nights leading up to and including November 2. Last year I got my face painted in fun skull make-up, this year I decided to go the paper mask route:

After we ate a sumptuous meal at El Paseo, we watched as the parade marched by and marveled at the beautiful pageantry, amazing costumes and very cool make-up. After the jump, check out some of the photos that me and my friends snapped last night at the Olvera Street Dia De Los Muertos Celebration

Dead Can Dance

Last night was truly one of the funnest nights I’ve ever spent since living here in Los Angeles. November 2 is El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in many Latin American countries and SoCal is home to many folks who celebrate this relgious holiday. In very simple terms, El Dia de los Muertos “focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration occurs on November 1st, and November 2nd in connection with the Catholic holiday of All Saints’ Day which occurs on November 1st and All Souls’ Day which occurs on November 2nd.” People celebrate by dressing up as colorful skeletons and decorating altars for family, friends and loved ones who have passed away:

David and I attended the Olvera Street Dia De Los Muertos Celebration last night and honestly experienced one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in my life. After the jump, check out some of Polaroid photos I snapped last night — trust me, they are really cool to see …
