Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To The Bowery Ballroom, NYC

Last night was the first show of the FINAL leg of Nine Inch Nails‘s Wave Goodbye Tour and, by pretty much all accounts, it was a fucking FANTASTIC performance. NIN played the intimate (ie. minuscule) Bowery Ballroom to a well-sold out house of ardent fans. The Horrors were the opening act but, in all honest, every single person in that venue was there for NIN:

The setlist for last night’s show was an excellent mixture of old and new and provided over 2 hours of kickass entertainment. Those of you seeing any of the future NIN shows on this leg of the Wave Goodbye Tour are in for a treat because I’ve been assured that the shows will all be different and Trent Reznor has got a bunch of really amazing surprises in store (if just *one* of the setlist scenarios I heard about turns out to be true, I will DIE). After the jump, check out some of the photos I snapped at last night’s concert, see the full setlist and watch video of NIN performing Discipline

The NINventure Beings, Phase I

Ugh … so things are a little slow-going today because I’m operating on just a few hours sleep. My red eye flight from LA to NYC was totally perfect, uncomplicated but rolling into town at 5AM and then trying to get some sleep only to wake up and work was ROUGH. As y’all should be well aware by now, I’m here in NYC for the upcoming string of final Wave Goodbye Tour shows which will take place starting Saturday night at Bowery Ballroom, Sunday at Webster Hall and Tuesday & Wednesday at Terminal 5. The final shows then will move on to Chicago and then conclude in LA. Nine Inch Nails released the official poster artwork for the NYC shows today:

The poster was unveiled on the official NIN Twitter account along with news of the merchandise that will be sold at the final shows:

Merchandise that will be available at the upcoming shows: dateback tee, event tee, women’s tee, tanktop, tour poster, city poster … There will be an event tee for each individual show (excluding V Fest). There will be three limited posters: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles.

I cannot tell you how excited I am. I have a couple days to kill before the first show on Saturday at Bowery Ballroom … it feels like the calm before the storm. I’m very geeked, y’all.

Not sure what the plan is for tonight … I’ve never been in NYC all by myself before … but I do have some really great friends who live here so I’m sure I’ll find something to do ;) It’s muggy and really gross humid here in NYC … but, I’m loving it :)

Limited-run, get 'em at the shows while they last
Nine Inch Nails Releases A Final Tour Poster For Final ‘Wave Goodbye’ Tourdates

Nine Inch Nails have just released on Twitter the poster artwork for the final batch of concert dates that they will be doing in NYC, Chicago and LA to close out their Wave Goodbye Tour. As you may recall, Trent Reznor announced a set of 10 dates (4 in NYC, 2 in Chicago and 4 in LA) that will be the last NIN shows, possibly, for good. To mark the occasion, a limited edition poster will be on sale in a limited run at the final shows … here is what it will look like along with the Twitter announcement:

Tour poster for the final run of shows – There will also be limited-run posters for New York, Chicago, and LA.

The end is nigh, y’all … and it is coming very quickly. I will be flying out to NYC next week for the 4 NYC shows the following weekend and then the weekend after that, I’ll be at the final final LA dates … and then, the end. I can’t remember the last time I bought a concert poster but you better believe I’ll be picking up one of these. It would be an understatement to call this the end of an era. While I am really excited for the shows, I’m not looking forward to Waving Goodbye for good :(

Au Revoir, bitches!
Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To Nîmes, France

This past week Nine Inch Nails played their final French concert ever to close out Le Festival de Nîmes in Nîmes, France in front of a sold out house as part of their Wave Goodbye Tour. NIN have only a handful of dates left in the Eastern part of the world to play before they return to the US to play their final shows in NYC, Chicago and LA at the end of August/early September. Here are a few pics of NIN doing their thang in France earlier this week:

I cannot EVEN tell you how seeing these photos have me all excited for the NIN shows to come at the end of this month. I’ll be at the 4 NYC shows and the 4 LA shows. While I’m very bummed that these will be the last NIN shows ever, I’m so very much looking forward to seeing the band in action 8 more times!!! Nine Inch Nails plays the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, England tomorrow night and then they head off to do shows in the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea. Time is running out to see NIN live … but as much as I’m dreading the end of Live NIN Road, I am very much looking forward to their return home in a few weeks.

Blink and you missed them
Tickets For The Final Nine Inch Nails Shows Sell Out Instantly

Last week Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails announced that a final batch of tickets would be going on sale for the FINAL Nine Inch Nails shows (possibly of all time) this week. Pre-sales for shows in smaller venues in NYC, Chicago and LA went on sale yesterday evening at 5pm local time at NIN.com. As is usually the case with online pre-sales, there were a few technical problems which cannot be avoided but all in all, the tickets were made available as promised … and sold out within seconds:

The NYC shows (Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and two shows at Terminal 5) went on sale first and went the fastest. If you were not logged in at precisely 5pm, you were locked out long enough that you weren’t even able to see the ticketing page to order tickets. The demand was just as high for the LA batch of tickets (Hollywood Palladium, Henry Fonda Theater, Wiltern and Echoplex). Because all of the tickets sold instantly, ticket scaplers have already put tickets on eBay for exorbitant sums. NIN posted the first listing at eBay warning buyers to NOT BUY SCALPED TICKETS:

Every effort is being made to thwart ticket scalping but for shows in such high demand, it’s understandable that this sort of thing is taking place. One hopes that real NIN fans will be able to see the shows for as little cost as possible. I am very, VERY happy to report that I will be attending the NYC and the LA shows. I’ll do my best to share the experience with all y’all. I know some of you also managed to get tickets for the shows you wanted … so I guess I’ll see you there!

Intimate clubs, y'all!! OMFG!!
Trent Reznor Announces A New Set Of Nine Inch Nails Tourdates

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, who is currently on tour in Europe on the Wave Goodbye Tour (which *may* be NIN‘s last tour ever), posted a message on the NIN official website alerting fans to the fact that a NEW SET of US tourdates will be announced soon. The dates will take place in August, in the cities NYC, Chicago and LA … and in smaller, club venues! Here is the full text of TR‘s announcement:

Getting right to the point, we’re going to play a handful of shows in NYC, Chicago and LA starting August 22nd. They will be informal affairs in medium to small venues with longer set-lists, possible special guests, cool openers and other surprises. Upon reflection, the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight – it just didn’t feel right to end NIN that way. An offer to headline V-Fest in Toronto (being announced soon) set the idea in motion to play some FUN shows to end this up with. If we can get it together we’ll film these shows, too.

In NYC we’ll be playing Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5. In Chicago, the Aragon Ballroom. In LA we’ll be at The Wiltern, The Henry Fonda, The Palladium and The Echoplex. These should be cool, unusual and unique shows and I hope you come out – this is it.

So far, The Horrors will be joining us for some shows in NYC, Mew will be with us at other shows in NYC, Chicago and LA, and perhaps more.
Details and ticket info will be announced shortly, so check back.

Thanks,
Trent

Hot Damn!! This is just … incredible! NIN haven’t played club dates in the US since the early 90′s … these shows are absolutely MUST SEE for any Nine Inch Nails fan. Altho I was extremely fortunate to be able to see NIN play a tiny club in Barcelona, Spain a couple of years ago I have never been able to see them play smaller venues here in the US. At the very least, I plan on attending the NYC and the LA shows. If these shows turn out to be the last NIN shows ever … I absolutely plan to be there to bear witness. Woot!! Actual tourdates and onsale ticket information has yet to be announced … I’ll be sure to pass along that info when it becomes available. Again, I say, WOOT!!

2 hour appearance at Bonnaroo Festival is last US show ... ever?
Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To The US, 06.13.09

Nine Inch Nails played a 2 hour set at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN last night which, it turns out, was the last US show of the band’s 2009 Wave Goodbye Tour. The previous tourdates with Jane’s Addiction were titled the NIN/JA Tour 2009 but from here on out the tour is called Wave Goodbye. The band will be taking a few days off before they head off to Europe and the rest of the world for the rest of the tour … but last night’s show in Tennessee was the band’s last show on US soil for a long time (if not for all time). Here are a few photos (taken and posted to NIN.com by Rob Sheridan) from last night’s performance along with the show’s full setlist:

Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, 061309

Home
Terrible Lie
Discipline
March of the Pigs
Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)
Metal
Reptile
The Becoming
I’m Afraid of Americans
Burn
Gave Up
La Mer
The Fragile
Banged and Blown Through
Non-Entity
Gone, Still
The Way Out Is Through
Mr. Self Destruct
Survivalism
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole
Wish (with Dillinger Escape Plan)

Encore 1:

Echoplex
The Good Soldier
Dead Souls
The Day the World Went Away

Encore 2:

Hurt

HOLY MFG! This has to be one of NIN‘s best setlists ever. Those hippies at Bonnaroo were pretty damn lucky to witness an epic show like this. I truly hope that those of you who are NIN fans here in the US got your chance to see them perform live on this tour. It very well may be the last tour the band ever does. My gut tells me that Trent Reznor isn’t finished with music forever and there may be another NIN tour sometime in the future but … you just never know. The rest of the world still has many NIN tourdates to look forward to. The band plays Austria on June 19 and they begin touring Europe after that. At this point, the final NIN concert will take place on August 12 in Taipei, Taiwan … but as for the US … NIN has already waved goodbye.

Nine Inch Nails ‘Wave Goodbye’ To Detroit, 05.31.09

To get right to the point and completely without any bit of hyperbole, I have to declare that yesterday was among the best days of my life. The things my friends and I got to experience at the NIN/JA 2009 Tour stop here in the metro Detroit, MI area yesterday are pretty much the things that I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life. I’ll try to be concise and not ramble but, seriously, the day was too epic to adequately describe. Sarah, Mark, David and I arrived at DTE Energy Center Pine Knob early in the afternoon so that we could participate in the meet and greet festivities that came with donating money to help fund Eric De La Cruz‘s heart transplant. We met a bunch of great Detroiters, including Pink readers Monique and Brandon, and all got to share the experience together. I’m gonna put the many, many photos I want to share behind the cut so that only those of you interested can check them out. I will post this awesome photo of the “Bodypaint Girls” who came to the show wearing no tops, only airbrushed bodypaint to cover their bodies:

Believe me, they looked more amazing in person. You can see what they looked like from the front HERE.

After the jump, check out photos and video from the NIN soundcheck, pics of some of us with Nine Inch Nails and some of the photos of the show that I got to snap while I was ON STAGE with the band during their performance …

But he still needs our help, so please keep donating!
Trent Reznor Helps Raise Over $500,000 For Eric De La Cruz

Here is some great news to impart on this lovely Saturday … Trent Reznor has announced on his official Twitter profile that his effort to inspire fans of Nine Inch Nails to donate much needed funds so that Eric De La Cruz can afford a heart transplant to save his life has been met with MUCH success. In only a few days, NIN fans donated over $542,000 dollars for Eric‘s surgery. The overall cost of his operation is close to $800,000 … so there is still a lot of money that needs to be raised. Here is the full text of TR‘s tweet update on how much money has been raised thus far and a re-posting of TR‘s letter about the campaign to raise funds for Eric De La Cruz‘s heart transplant:

From TR‘s Twitter: We have now raised $542,212 for Eric. I love you people. Thank you.

A Letter from Trent:

This is for something important. Eric De La Cruz is dying and needs a heart transplant. He keeps getting turned down for a transplant list because he’s on Nevada Medicaid, and there are no transplant centers in Nevada. We want to get involved and hopefully so do you, so we’re extending a hand. His sister Veronica (former Anchor and Internet Correspondent for CNN) has started a campaign to save his life.

Eric’s situation shines a bright light on a broken health care system, and his particular set of problems are being addressed on the political front, aiming for reform in addition to the need for immediate financial help to keep him alive TODAY. I think we can help with the latter.

Here’s what we’re offering – three options:

If you have a ticket to a NIN/JA show: if you donate $1,000 to this cause, we’ll invite you to come hang out with us before the NIN/JA show of your choice. You and a guest can watch NIN and Street Sweeper Social Club’s soundchecks, eat dinner backstage with us, take pics / get autographs and watch the show from the side of the stage if you’d like.

If you donate $300, you and a friend can join us for NIN and SSSC’s soundchecks and a handshaking / hug session before doors open at the NIN/JA show of your choice.

If you do NOT have a ticket to a NIN/JA show: if you donate $1,200 to this cause, we’ll invite you to come hang out with us before the NIN/ JA show of your choice and provide 2 tickets (best available). You and a guest can watch soundcheck, eat dinner backstage with us, take pics / get autographs and watch the show from the side of the stage if you’d like.

100% of the money collected from this will go directly to Eric’s fund.

I hope you’ll consider helping out with this.

Sincerely, Trent Reznor

What to expect from your VIP package:

Please keep in mind that we are playing this by ear and things will vary night to night due to the overwhelming response to this and the varying conditions at the venues. Be assured we are doing our very best to make sure your experience is the best we can provide, and thanks for your understanding.
With that said, here’s what to generally expect.

For all participants ($300, $1,000 and $1,200)
Be sure to arrive at the venue early enough to see the soundchecks. A complete list of soundcheck times is located RIGHT BELOW THIS POST. Sometimes soundchecks are shortened / cancelled due to issues beyond our control, We will have a meet and greet regardless.
NIN will soundcheck first for 15-30 min, then there will be a short break while SSSC sets up and soundchecks. You with then be escorted elsewhere for an informal meet and greet with NIN and members of SSSC. You are welcome to get autographs, take pics, hugs, etc.

At this point, the $300 people will be escorted back to the venue after the nin.com pre-sale people are allowed in but before the general public. If you are a $300 donator AND a nin.com pre-sale person, yes, you can go early.

The $1,000 and $1,200 donators will then be escorted backstage where they can attend dinner with the various crew and bands, see the general workings of the show from a production standpoint if desired and generally get the feel of what this kind of tour is like from behind the scenes (plus a high chance of a shirtless Dave Navarro sighting!)
Depending on the venue, you may be able to watch SSSC from the side of the stage. When NIN performs, we’ll offer you a choice of what we feel would be the best / most unique vantage points to watch from. We’ll provide beverages and you may be able to move to the front of house (mixing) position depending on the circumstances. You’re welcome to hang backstage after NIN’s show as well if you’d like, or we can find you a spot to enjoy Jane’s Addiction.
I’ve spoken with all camps on this tour and everyone is open and happy to help out and participate, so we really feel this will be a cool and unique experience for you.

Miscellaneous:
These offers apply to the Chicago show (obviously minus the Jane’s Addiction part.
These offers apply to the HEADLINING (read: NON-FESTIVAL) shows in the rest of the world. The exact specifics will obviously vary but the overall vibe will be similar.
We are offering a LIMITED amount of $1,000. ONLY donations for Bonnaroo – you must already have tickets (or buy them separate). The specifics will be different, as we have no soundchecks, etc but we will include a VIP pass and access to hang out in whatever situation we find ourselves in there. Specific details about this particular show coming soon.

Any fan of Nine Inch Nails knows how fiercely private the band tends to be … for Trent Reznor to offer up this kind of access to those of you who can afford to generously donate to help save Eric‘s life is truly very commendable. I, myself, was moved by Trent‘s plea and donated and I sincerely hope those of you who can afford to donate will do so as well. It is so humbling to see the power of people’s compassion and desire to help others in need. There is much more that can be done … so I urge you, again, if you can help out in any way — please do! Click HERE to make a donation on the NIN website or click HERE to make a donation on the De La Cruz family’s website. Every donation helps … please keep ‘em coming.
