NIN.com Continues To Tease Its Mystery Project

Earlier this month Trent Reznor began posting cryptic photos (HERE and HERE) on NIN.com, the official website for Nine Inch Nails, which seem to be hinting at the latest progress on an as-yet unknown new project. In the past week or so, TR has posted 3 more cryptic teaser photos:

All of these photos, thus far, have been adding up to a big fat ? — Question Mark. The photos keep coming and we are no closer to knowing what the hell is going on. As maddening as all of this is, I have to admit that it is very exciting as well. I hope all of this build-up has a huge payoff … I’m DYING to know what is coming … aren’t you?

Heads or Tales?
NIN.com Updated With Another Cryptic Photo

Yesterday morning Trent Reznor updated NIN.com, the official Nine Inch Nails website, with a teaser photo that appears to have been taken inside a recording studio. A few hours later, another photo was posted on NIN.com in its place … and this new photo is more cryptic than the first:

HMMM. Two photos in one day … could TR be trying to convey a message to us fans? Or, as is also very likely, is he just effing with our minds? This metal skull also appears to have been photographed inside a recording studio … so I’m of the mind that these photos are harbingers of new music from Mr. Reznor. I wonder how long we’ll have to wait until we know for sure what TR has got up his sleeve.

HMMMMMM
NIN.com Teases New Music From Trent Reznor?

Head’s up Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor fans … NIN.com, the official Nine Inch Nails website, has been updated with a curious new photo published on the main homepage which appears to be a close-up image of a soundboard in a recording studio. Might TR be hinting at the imminent release of new music with this teaser photo?

Reznor is infamous for posting cryptic images like this on NIN.com to inspire discussion from his legions of fans. It seems very telling that the first updated photo of 2010 appears to be from a recording studio. In December, Trent Reznor updated NIN.com with a message that promised that 2010 would bring “a number of things … including new material from nine inch nails and something else that isn’t nine inch nails”. Could this new image be a hint that one of those releases may be upon us soon? Speculate away … I, for one, am very excited at the prospect of new material from TR in any form. In all honesty, I have no idea what this image could be hinting at … I’m just as curious and in the dark as everyone else … which makes this new update all the more fun! Any guesses as to what Reznor‘s got planned for us?

"wave hello"
Trent Reznor Releases A Holiday Message To Fans

NIN.com, the official website of Nine Inch Nails, was updated late yesterday with a new message from Trent Reznor. TR‘s latest missive to fans includes holiday greetings along with new information regarding the promise of new music to come in the new year! Here is the full text of TR‘s holiday message to fans:

12.23.09: wave hello

Happy holidays everyone and thank you for an exceptional year! Sorry I haven’t been around much lately, I’ve been working on not working for a couple of months, which for me is hard work. 2010 has a number of things planned including new material from nine inch nails and something else that isn’t nine inch nails. I am in a state of rediscovery and reinvention that feels unfamiliar, unsure and exactly what I need.

In the meantime, here are some miscellaneous performances from 2009.
See you and speak to you soon-
Trent

Woot!! I’m certain that many folks, me included, are surprised at the announcement of new music from NIN in 2010. To be honest, I’m surprised at the announcement of any new music so soon after the end of Nine Inch Nails but … believe me, I am not complaining in the least. I’m most intrigued by the “something else that isn’t nine inch nails”. It’s great to hear publicly from TR himself about how he’s been doing in the past few months. I’m not sure if we should expect more messages like this from him any time soon but we should keep an eye out nonetheless.

Remember, The Gift video release (official NIN video footage of 3 separate concerts put together by the folks at This One Is On Us) will be released via torrent sites TOMORROW … So, whether you’ve been naughty or nice this year the NIN goodies just keep on coming.

The NIN/JA Tour is comin' our way
Trent Reznor Releases The Official List Of US Tour Dates

Trent Reznor and the boys of Nine Inch Nails have returned home to the States after completing their short tour of New Zealand and Australia which took place over the last few weeks and are already planning their concert tour outing with Jane’s Addiction which will take place here in the US later on this Spring/Summer. TR updated the official Nine Inch Nails website with a batch of SOME concert dates (which, incidentally, do not match up with the leaked dates we got last week … so those dates must be wrong) which I present to y’all here:

3.3.09: some official NIN/JA tour dates
Here’s what we can tell you so far:

Fri-May-08 West Palm Beach, FL [Cruzan Amphitheatre]
Sat-May-09 Tampa, FL [Ford Amphitheatre]
Sun-May-10 Atlanta, GA [Lakewood Amphitheatre]
Thu-May-14 Albuquerque, NM [Journal Pavilion]
Fri-May-15 Phoenix, AZ [Cricket Wireless Pavilion]
Sat-May-16 Chula Vista, CA [Cricket Wireless Amphitheater]
Mon-May-18 Las Vegas, NV [The Pearl]
Wed-May-20 Irvine, CA [Verizon Wireless Amphitheater – Irvine Meadows]
Fri-May-22 Mountain View, CA [Shoreline Amphitheatre]
Tue-May-26 Englewood, CO [Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre]
Wed-May-27 Kansas City, MO [Starlight Theatre]
*** Fri-May-29 Chicago, IL [Charter One Pavilion] NINE INCH NAILS Only
Sat-May-30 Noblesville, IN [Verizon Wireless Music Center]
Sun-May-31 Clarkston, MI [DTE Energy Music Theatre]
Tue-Jun-02 Toronto, ON [Molson Amphitheatre]
Wed-Jun-03 Darien Lake, NY [Darien Lake Amphitheatre]
Fri-Jun-05 Camden, NJ [Tweeter Center At The Waterfront]
Sat-Jun-06 Holmdel, NJ [PNC Bank Arts Center]
Sun-Jun-07 Wantagh, NY [Nikon at Jones Beach Music Theater]
Tue-Jun-09 Columbia, MD [Merriweather Post Pavilion]
Wed-Jun-10 Burgettstown, PA [Post-Gazette Pavilion]
Fri-Jun-12 Charlotte, NC [Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre]

The implication to me is that this is just the first set of dates that have been finalized and can be officially announced. I suspect that more dates will be added to this list. I’m happy to see that the LA area dates as well as the Detroit area dates are included in this first round of announced dates. I deffo plan to see the guys here in LA (the Irvine, CA show) and may even fly home to see them in Detroit (the Clarkston, MI show). While I am very excited that NIN will be back on stage so soon after the end of their last tour, I’m starting to get more bummed that this tour will be the last NIN tour for some time (or ever!). BUT, we should focus on the positive and look forward to these new dates. I am very, very excited. NIN and Jane’s Addiction … I cannot wait!

Surprise!
Trent Reznor Has A Gift For You

Around Xmas Trent Reznor updated the official Nine Inch Nails website and mentioned that he might have “a small holiday gift” for fans soon … he then updated the site this week with a message alerting fans that he hadn’t forgotten about his promise and that the gift would be revealed soon. TR just updated NIN.com with news of his gift to the world:

1.7.09: your gift!
The internet is full of surprises these days.
I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.

If any of you could find a LINK to that footage I’ll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool.

Oh yeah, you didn’t hear this from me.

The link points to THIS thread in the NIN.com forums that explains in more detail what footage is available. The post suggests that “Novice users might not want to download this just yet” which means that I will not be downloading this 400Gb of raw footage at all. I suspect the more technically inclined NIN fans out there will work their magic and offer up a final product (or products) soon. This is pretty freakin’ amazing … because TR wasn’t allowed by his former record company to release a proper DVD of the Lights in the Sky Tour (which was supposed to be filmed in 3D!!!), this seems like a nice Plan B. I can’t wait to see what will come of this gift to fans.

Now you can chat with Trent Reznor, possibly
NIN.com Gets An Upgrade

The official Nine Inch Nails website has undergone a pretty significant upgrade that now allows users to create online profiles, communicate with one another in official forums and other such fun website-y stuff … and Trent Reznor wants you to know all about it. Here is a pic of Trent backstage at the Red Rocks venue in Colorado last week possibly putting together his new NIN.com online profile and a message from him about the new site developments:

“Welcome to the beginning of the new nin.com! There’s a lot of new stuff here we’ve been working on for quite some time and MUCH more coming over the next few weeks. We’re aiming to create the ultimate community and resource for all things related to nine inch nails. Be sure to register to create your own profile and take full advantage of what’s here – it’s 100% free and will remain that way.

Once you’ve registered and logged in, you can set up your user profile by clicking on your username in the top right of the page. You’ll also have access to our new live chat rooms and our new forums, which are already active and filled with great content and discussion. Here are some useful forum destinations to get you started:

- Introduce yourself in the Community Forum, and please check this message before posting.
- Read what people have been saying about recent shows (and add your own thoughts if you’ve attended) in the Previous Shows Forum, and talk about future shows in the Upcoming Shows Forum.
- View and share photos and video from the Lights In The Sky Tour in this thread.
- Need help? Check the Tech Support Forum.”

Actually, this latest development isn’t the first time that NIN.com has offered interactivity. Up until a few months ago, the site did offer an online community where users could do all of these same things but it was only available to paying members of The Spiral, the official NIN fanclub. In concert with Trent‘s new found love of giving things away for free (like the new NIN album The Slip which you can download free of charge HERE), he has decided to give away the online interactivity formerly enjoyed solely by NIN fanclub members for free. And this is why Trent Reznor totally rules. I am VERY excited about this Saturday’s NIN show at The Forum in Inglewood, CA (you have no idea!) … it will be the last show of the first leg of the Lights in the Sky Over North America Tour before the band heads down to South America and Mexico. The band will be coming back to the US for the second leg of the tour … I’m already planning which of those shows I’m gonna try and attend. It’s really great being a NIN fan right now :)

PS: THIS is me.
