Victoria Beckham Shows Collection At New York Fashion Week Spring 2010

Dress-ed to impress
Monday, September 14th, 2009

Victoria Beckham showed off the Spring 2010 collection of her dress line at New York Fashion Week this weekend and, as I understand it, the collection was a huge success. Showcasing bold colors and adventurous fabrics and prints, VB seems to be confidently moving her design aesthetic into the true realm of high fashion. Here are photos of VB at the Fashion’s Night Out event at Bergdorf Goodman over the weekend and some deets about her latest collection:

Already a favourite with the likes of Elle Macpherson and Dannii Minogue, Victoria Beckham has won universal praise from the fashion community since launching her label two seasons ago. So expectations were high for the launch of her latest collection at New York Fashion Week yesterday in a hip downtown art gallery. The fledgling designer didn’t disappoint, her latest offering braver and more confident than previous seasons. ‘This is my third collection, and I wanted to push myself, but I also wanted to be respectful of my customer,’ she said. ‘I want her to know she can rely on me.’ Featuring bolder colours, sombre-style prints and a more adventurous spectrum of fabrics and cuts, she seemed to have flexed her fashion muscles to fantastic effect. Presenting her spring/summer 2010 collection, Beckham had refashioned her signature fitted dress in a sunny yellow hue. This season’s popular peplum style was pared down in taupe with a geometric cut-out neckline, while another creation – worn by the designer herself for the occasion – played with the proportions of the overskirt, teaming it with a high hemline. A loose silky shift dress in a black, yellow and white print saw her step out of her tailored comfort zone, while formal eveningwear also featured for the first time in the shape of a stunning red silk goddess gown with a cut-out back and black trim.

Christian Siriano Shows His Spring 2010 Collection At NY Fashion Week

Fierce
Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Project Runway season 4 winner Christian Siriano showed off his third NY Fashion Week collection here at The Tent in Bryant Park yesterday and by pretty much all accounts, it was a stunning success. Siriano made a huge splash on the competitive reality TV series Project Runway but he has really made a name for himself in the years since he appeared on the show:

Designers from “Project Runway” have come and gone — sadly, mostly gone. But Christian Siriano has shown he plans to stay. Siriano’s spring 2010 collection shown Saturday was his third at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week following his stint on the reality show, and in that time he’s made his way to the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue and to the shoe aisles of Payless. The collection was a lush take on Mediterranean travel, concluding with three intricate ball gowns that elicited spontaneous applause from a crowd that included actresses Mena Suvari and Tori Spelling and model Alessandra Ambrosio. A satin-faced organza strapless gown in blush, elegantly draped and with a beaded bodice, cried out for a red carpet. “I feel like a proud dad,” said Tim Gunn, the “Project Runway” mentor. He said he knew Siriano would be a standout from the competition, and thinks he’s evolved into something more: “I believe he’s this generation’s Marc Jacobs. I do.”

Christian Siriano is such a stunning talent, it’s really great to see him grow into his own. After the jump, see a few of the pieces he crafted for his Spring ‘10 collection and read the rest of this glowing review of his show …

Christian Siriano’s First Official Fashion Week Show

Spring 2009
Friday, September 12th, 2008

Project Runway season 4 winner Christian Siriano presented his first official fashion show at New York Fashion Week last night. You may recall that Christian won his season of Project Runway back in February of this year so this was the first New York Fashion Week since his win … and he has already presented his first, solo collection — not bad for a kid, I think. Here are a few pieces from his show:

It’s always nice to attend a show where the audience is clearly filled with fans. They break into spontaneous applause when they like what they see and you can actually feel a difference in the crowd’s energy. Christian Siriano has a lot of fans, Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Becki Newton and several of the “Project Runway” executive producers among them. And his first runway collection played to them. For his first real collection, Siriano showed more refined versions of that final collection that won him the “Project Runway” top prize. There were ultra-skinny pants and poufy tops, some even shown with a giant picture hat, all in gray. He stretched himself with some of the skirts in his black group. There was a really well-cut peg shirt (read mini culottes), a high-waisted paperbag pleated skirt and even a ballerina skirt. Of course, he threw in his signature circle shirts and gowns in which circles of chiffon in varying sizes are embroidered for volume, all of which received spontaneous bits of applause.

There is no question that Christian is an insanely talented designer. I really loved all the pieces that he showed in this, his first fashion show. You can really see his trademark design style in the pieces … as well as his love of very large hats. I’m glad to see there was quite a bit of bold color mixed in as well, I love black but too much black is not very inventive. After the jump, check out a few pics of Christian taking his bows at yesterday’s fashion show and of him at his afterparty last night …
