The Best of 2008
The Cast Of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Does ‘TV Guide’ & ‘Entertainment Weekly’

The entire cast of the hit CBS show How I Met Your Mother is featured on the cover of the new issue of TV Guide magazine …

… but even cooler than that, the cast is featured in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly in a fun new photoshoot where they recreate images that reflect the Best that 2008 had to offer. Here are pics of the cast doing the Olympics, the Jonas Brothers and Indiana Jones:

THE OLYMPICS — The men lost a lot of hair to play the U.S. 4x200m relay team; Harris (far right) even cajoled Segel (far left) into shaving his
armpits. ”The guys sounded like they didn’t think it was going to grow back,” laughs Smulders. ”Dude. Trust me. It grows back.
I wish it didn’t. It does. You’re gonna be fine.”

JONAS BROTHERS — ”I don’t often wear skinny jeans. It’s not my thing.
But I heroically squeezed into some,” says Radnor. Harris worked to internalize his character deeply, as well: ”I got to be the straight-ironed guy. Not the curly. I don’t know their names…Alvin? Theodore?”

INDIANA JONES — Smulders (left) didn’t see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (she says the key to Cate Blanchett was ”just look like a badass”), while Harris studied Indy hard: ”It’s sort of a quarter-squint. The lips go down,
but there’s a hint of a smile. But he’s not amused, because he’s always got other things in mind.”

OMG! Is this not the most brilliant thing you’ve ever seen? Not only is it an amazing idea but the recreations are freakin’ hilarious!! After the jump, check out the HIMYM cast doing the Sex and the City Movie and the Vice Presidential debate …

On last night's ep of 'How I Met Your Mother'
Neil Patrick Harris Is ‘The Naked Man’

Okay, I must confess … I do not watch How I Met Your Mother on CBS despite the fact that one of my fave TV actresses (Alyson Hannigan) and one of my fave out actors (Neil Patrick Harris) star on the show. It’s even more shameful for me that I don’t watch the show since it was the sitcom that allowed our dear Britney Spears to guest star twice this year, helping the girl get her professional life back on track. I keep saying to myself, You’ll catch up with the show on DVD — there’s time. After hearing about and seeing a few screencaps from last night’s ep, I think it’s time that I start catching up and watching the show. Last night’s ep of HIMYM was titled The Naked Man and in it, NPH‘s überstraight character Barney Stinson performed a few scenes completely nekkid … with only a few perfectly placed grooming product bottles to cover up his naughty bits:

I gotta say … Neil Patrick looks pretty damn good all nekkid and stuff. Click HERE to read a recap of last night’s ep written by someone who watches the show and click HERE to watch the entire episode online at CBS.com (which I think will only work for viewers in the US). After the jump, check out a few more screencaps of Neil Patrick Harris in all of his glory — as allowed by US network television decency standards …

In, what is being described as, possibly the worst Emmy Awards ceremony ever
The 60th Annual Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

Last night the 60th Annual Emmy Awards were given out for outstanding achievement in television at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, CA. I was not able to watch the show myself, since I am currently in Reykjavik, Icelancd on holiday, but the reviews are in and I understand the show itself was pretty unwatchable. Despite the shortcomings of this year’s Emmy Awards show, the whole reason for the shindig in the first place is to hand out awards to some very deserving folks … oh, and for the fashions on the red carpet. Here are a few pics of some of the folks who strutted their stuff down the red carpet last night:

Christina Applegate looked stunning on the red carpet, I’m so glad to see her looking so well. Heidi Klum and Julie Benz also looked pretty amazing … I threw in David Boreanaz so that there could be a little bit of Angel/Darla love going on here. I liked Brooke Shields‘s pink dress and I thought Kathy Griffin picked out a nice wig to wear for the event. Here are a few pics of some of the winners in the Emmy Awards press room backstage … I also threw in some non-winners as well, cuz they were brave enough to pose for pics without having actually won anything last night:

The sleek ’60s drama “Mad Men” made Emmy history Sunday as the first basic-cable show to win a top series award, while the sitcom “30 Rock” and its stars Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin also emerged as big winners. “We’re all so very grateful to have jobs in this turkey-burger economy,” Fey said after accepting the best comedy series trophy for her satire about a late-night TV show. “This is the greatest job I’ve ever had in my life,” Baldwin said of his role an a network executive. He paid tribute to Fey, the NBC show’s star and creator, as “the Elaine May of her generation.” “I thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities. Well done. That is what all parents should do,” said Fey, who also won for best actress and writing in a comedy series. Emmy voters rewarded quality, not ratings: Many of the winners draw relatively small audiences. AMC’s “Mad Men,” which looks at America through the prism of Madison Avenue, is lucky to get 2 million viewers. Glenn Close of FX’s “Damages” and Bryan Cranston of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” captured drama acting trophies. Close, honored for her portrayal of a ruthless attorney, complimented her fellow nominees, including Holly Hunter and Sally Field. “We’re proving that complicated, powerful, mature women are sexy in high entertainment and can carry a show,” she said. “I call us the sisterhood of the TV drama divas.” Cranston won the trophy for his role of a desperate man who turns to making drugs. Dianne Wiest of “In Treatment” and Zeljko Ivanek of “Damages” won supporting acting honors for the drama series. Jean Smart of ABC’s “Samantha Who?” was honored as best supporting actress in a comedy series, with Jeremy Piven her actor counterpart for “Entourage.” Piven took aim at the five reality hosts who helped open the ceremony in what could charitably called a rambling way, saying, “What if I just kept talking for 12 minutes — what would happen? That was the opening.” The crowd at the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards laughed heartily, not a good sign for the hosts, who included Ryan Seacreast of “American Idol.” … Jeff Probst of “Survivor,” one of the ceremony’s masters of ceremonies, claimed the first award for best reality series host. “We feel honored to be part of this family. Thank you for letting reality in,” he said … HBO’s “John Adams,” about the founding father, was named best miniseries and won other awards including acting trophies for Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney and Tom Wilkinson. The historical drama set a record for most awards, 13, including five trophies Sunday and eight previously announced. The record of 11 was held by HBO’s “Angels in America,” the TV academy said. HBO was the most-honored network, with 26 awards earned Sunday and at the creative arts ceremony held earlier this month. ABC was second with 12 awards, followed by CBS, NBC and PBS with 10 each; AMC with eight, Showtime with five and Fox with four.

Felicitations and congratulations go out to all of this year’s Emmy Award winners … but I am struggling to find nice things to say about last night’s award show. Since I didn’t get to see it for myself, I have to rely on what others are reporting … and none of it is good. After the jump, check out some of the scathing yet funny bad reviews of last night’s 60th Annual Emmy Awards — believe me, some of them are deffo worth checking out …

Raises much-needed money for AIDS research
Hollywood Gets ‘Hot’

Saturday night saw the 3rd Annual Hot In Hollywood event take place in, you guessed it, Hollywood, CA. Hot In Hollywood is a celebration benefiting charities dedicated to the education, prevention, testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS. Here are a few pics of some of the celebs who came out in support of this year’s event and some deets on what went down Saturday night:

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi didn’t make it to Saturday’s Hot in Hollywood charity event in Los Angeles; they were busy getting married. But there were plenty of other stars singing and dancing to a ’60s-themed evening of song benefiting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation … Host America Ferrera started off the show with a version of the James Bond theme song Diamonds Are Forever and was later joined by co-star Ana Ortiz on Goldfinger. Ferrera’s TV nephew, Mark Indelicato, threw on a fringed jacket to channel a young Michael Jackson on I Want You BackHow I Met Your Mother‘s Neil Patrick Harris, via prompts from the audience, turned Puff the Magic Dragon into the X-rated Ruby the Magic Unicorn … Candis Cayne of Dirty Sexy Money wowed the crowd with a Vegas-ready performance of Thirteen Men, first sung by Ann-Margret. The transsexual actress said she’s still surprised by fans who want her autograph … With nuptial news in the air, talk turned to Grey’s Anatomy‘s T.R. Knight and his steady of eight months, Mark Cornelson. When asked if they were planning a ceremony, Knight simply smiled and said, “I’m very happy that you can ask that question. Very, very happy. And I hope it gets asked a lot.”

Awww … this sounds like it was such a great event. Hot In Hollywood keeps getting bigger and better with each passing year and I am thrilled that so many folks in Hollywood are happily embracing an event like this that is absolutely committed to raising money for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment and research. Kudos to all the stars who make it a priority in their lives to give of their time and money to such important causes.

WTF? Who knew the Farmers Market was LA's newest hot spot
Doogie Howser, M.D. Does The Farmers Market

Despite the fact that Neil Patrick Harris currently enjoys relative fame as Barney Stinson on the CBS hit show How I Met Your Mother I continue to see him as Doogie Howser, M.D. … which is why I think it’s hilarious that Neil was also spotted at the Farmers Market this weekend, much like his former-teen star compatriot Joey Lawrence was … here are a few pics:

Unfortch, NPH wasn’t at the Farmers Market with any cute babies … he wasn’t even there with his hottie boyfriend David Burtka (who hails from Dearborn, MI y’all). Just Neil … flyin’ solo … enjoyin’ some fresh squeezed lemonade. It’s a shame Doog, I mean, Neil wasn’t chillin with his former castmate Max Casella (who played Vinnie Delpino on Doogie Howser, M.D.) cuz a reunion of these two — at the Farmers Market — would’ve ruled the world! Ah well … mebbe next time.
